Stay with your flight members. A reason the Americans defeated the Japanese pilots was that the Japanese fought alone in the sky relying on extreme pilot skill in the maneuver and the code of bushido. The Americans were (and are) a nation of team sports players ( baseball, football, etc.) So naturally they did the same in the airwar, which with ongoing improvements in aircraft and experience proved to be decisive.
I dig your IL-2 videos Steven. I'm glad you're still doing them in IL-2 1946 w/ mods. I do enjoy IL-2 CLoD, with the team fusion patch, but the scope and breadth of the possible theaters in 1946 is tough to tangle w/ when it comes to single player campaigns. You have some great (and rare) aircraft in your videos as well. Keep em coming.
+goldden guy If you think because something is a "game" that it means there is no correlation to reality, you are simply wrong. It is also a simulation, which is an approximation of reality. Which is not to say it is perfect, or even very consistent. But it does a pretty good job overall. The general principles of air combat really do hold in this game. Which isn't very surprising when you consider that the first set of principles for air combat, formulated in WWI, largely hold true today, with a few exceptions driven by technology: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicta_Boelcke
I've met many sharks too... loose is part of the game! Nice environment. I'm re-installing tfm 4.12+5.3 and see if this time it goes right... it's a (too) long process. Can you tell me what mods should be applied after tfm install...? From witch mod, shall I look for the dates? because I don't want to mess things up... I've been looking for your YT posts and it's a good way to follow new mods, only relating to the wolf pilots, do they not interfere with each other, them and those that come in the planes, i.e. bf109e4...? I admit I'm a bit confused! thx.
Ok, thx. I don't know what goes wrong with this one, I think is something to do with tigersounds that mess up with sasmodact... I have dbw tfm without problems, just issues with fps (low on ram), but now I've 4.12+hsfx7.03 and runs wonderfull, great sound, perfect textures and nice fps. Mods I need, I'll join them! Thx again for your answer, marcus!
please steven, learn some tactics :-P i am not an active sim pilot anymore...but when i was, i learned so much by flying online against and together with real human beings - some of them even were real combat pilots... you would get raped by real pilots in a dogfight if you flew like that. as you are investing so much time into this sim, why not join some people and learn how to dogfight with different types? get better at shooting...get closer before you shoot, try to estimate, what your enemy is doing, try to not lose your enemies so often in a dogfight and try to conserve more energy in your fights. go vertical ;-) dont panic when overshooting, and do not try to use turning as your only evasive action. if you gotta turn with zeros, you have allready lost... your videos would be so much more enjoable. i still like them, cause planes, but i know you can get even more succesfull with this youtube :-)

I've been playing this game for 6+ years and have never before seen a gun sight get shot up and knocked off-kilter as yours did in this video.
Veronica Lake must not have been a good luck charm.

Broke two cardinal rules of air combat. Firing from too far away, and not checking your six.
+lindebr And #3 - target fixation.
+lindebr
...and #4: gets himself into a horizontal turn fight against an A6M type while flying a F6F.
...and #5: attacking a large flying boat laden with 20mm cannons in the rear from behind and then sitting there for longer than necessary
It's a game c'mon now.

neutral on this. additions used are great & well chosen. the camera work is cool, it falls down on direction with the hellcat alone
You must have modeled this on the combat action on 23rd and 24th of November.
beautiful most beautiful!!!! Bravo Steven!!! You are the dragon!!
One of my favorite combat flight sims. Have several versions but the VP modact version is my pick though CUP is great also.
when u are outnumbered but have the faster a/c,bug out
What happened to the other Hellcats that were in formation with you when you left the carrier? Could they not have taken the heat off of ya?
Tennessee Ridgerunner

Could you tell me how to mod my version of il-2 like this?
please steven, learn some tactics :-P

can you tell me what prop pitch you set for normal flight? and rpm settings for cruise and combat? thanks
AJ...The prop is there to keep the pilot cool. If you don't believe that, just watch him sweat when it stops turning.
I hope he made it :(
Does this work in Mixed Reality?
Everything happens as if there was a catapult operating during the take-off procedure on this aircraft carrier. That doesn't seem realistic to me.
Name mod for Sea please
So....avoidance is just a suggestion, then?
O Veronica Lake ... she was great too##
Looks like to me you didnt give a s... when you got hit.
1946? World War II / U.S. - Japan war in the Pacific was over in August of 1945.
how come there's always some scholar in the comments pointing out what everyone knows
1946? The war ended in 1945.
