ABOUT THIS GAME
Il-2 1946 includes all of the original IL-2 series content: IL-2 Sturmovik™: Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack, Pacific Fighters™, and alternate history campaigns in the year 1946. What was years ago began as a one-aircraft study sim is now an astonishing anthology, with a whopping 229 flyable aircraft and over 300 aircraft total!
The game has been updated to the latest version 4.12.2. This community-made update includes widescreen support with correct FOV, and many new planes, maps, and scenarios.
New Aircraft: 32 new flyable fighters and bombers, and four new AI aircraft!
New Maps: Large new historical maps of the Kyiv region; a map of Manchuria focusing on a border region between USSR, China, and Japanese-occupied Korea; a large bonus Burma map; and an online Khalkin Gol / Nomonhan map.
New Campaigns: Nine new campaigns with nearly 200 missions add incredible realism and attention to detail. There are detailed careers for fighter and bomber pilots, for the German, Soviet, and Japanese air forces, offering such varied objectives as flying jet bombers over occupied Europe, to intercepting American B-29 Super fortresses over Iwo Jima and Japanese home islands!
Alternate History: Three of the nine campaigns are a departure into alternate history, focusing on hypothetical battles between the Soviet Union and Germany in the year 1946, while WWII still rages on.
Nearly 1,000 new Paint schemes: The new planes, as well as many of the other ones in the series, come with a host of historical paint schemes, showing many of the individual aircraft or squadrons that served in WWII.
YES! It's the return of the combat-sim King! So many amazing memories with this LEGENDARY game!

Yeah, it's a little dated looking now, but it is still a ton of fun to see again. I can't tell you how many hours I sunk into that game back in the day. Besides opening up the Pacific Theater, which was great, it was tons of fun farting around in the what-if stuff too. I still have the original box and CDs floating around here somewhere. Absolutely adored that sim.

I'm the creator of that Wildcat cockpit mod.
I presume your head tracker is 6dof capable. I set up the cockpit class to have an expanded range of movement, such that the player can lean forward until his virtual nose is just a few inches from the gun sight's crash pad. This affords an excellent sight picture, where the full reticle can be seen and the cowling as well, msking gunnery in a turn so much better.
Moreover, being able to lean forward (and to the side imultaneously) provides a much better view to the rear. I can see the outer 1/2 or so of the tailplane. Your view here is very much more limited due to remaining leaning back all the time, with your virtual head almost against the headrest.
I note that virtually all Il-2 '46 movies have the player failing to take full advantage of their tracker capabilities in terms of translational movement, being content to keep their virtual noggin pretty much stuck in the one place at all times. The resulting self-imposed limitations to both the forward and rearward views is an unnecessary handicap.
While watching, I find myself wanting to lean so as to obtain a better view! 😊

A favorite tactic of Zeros was to zoom climb. They'd wait for the Wildcat to stall and drop on it's tail.

Pacific Fighters was my first in the series as well. I remember becoming a triple ace in a Wildcat.
Please do a campaign on this either German British or any other country I have yet to see a solid campaign done one il21946

Pacific fighters was my second ww2 flying game and i loved it, i had a A6M2-N rufe campaigne and a Ki61 campaine back in thenday, i didn't have a joystick but the keyboard did just fine then

Your Wildcat might be more suited to boom and zoom attacks against the more agile Zeros.
This is excellent, utterly fantastic taff, this is my 3nd all time fav air combat sim game after the IL-2 great battles, clocked so many hours in this it's impossible for me to count. You'd be excellent in a series of this, you really ought to try.. of course that's your choice but seriously.. You'd be epic in this series. Pacific fighters mod, that's exactly what I have.. so.. excellent to share that with you. Love the F4F Wildcat.. just love it so much, had more fun with that I've lost count. Thanks for posting this on, was utterly fantastic, loved it..we all did.. give the campaign a try some time, thanks again 👏 👍

Dogfighting a Zero is a matter best left to a F6F Hellcat
The only threat to the Zero in dogfight was the FM-2.
I think it was either incredibly brave or incredibly foolish of the IJN to basically paint giant bullseyes on the decks of their aircraft carriers.

@@michaelbourgeault9409 When you're flying on fumes, unsure if you're undercarriage is down, you're flaps look like Swiss cheese, and you're trying to land on a smoking flattop with the wind in a hurricane - nothing worse than then discovering you're trying to land on a goat...

I’d get a bit higher angle of attack on your landing. Good job but you were pretty much scraping the stern on contact. In reality if you had one good swell or a gust you might have been decorating the stern.
In the US Navy you try for the 3rd arrestor wire from the stern as that is considered a perfect landing, even today they hold this tradition when it comes to carrier landings. Don't know about the British RN or IJN if they had something similar or not.
I think Taff is justified in taking the attitude that a good landing is one you can walk away from, a great one is when they can use the plane afterwards!

Please, pretty please do a campaign. In my opinion the campaigns in this game feel so much more dynamic for some reason compared to the newer ones.
TAFF, I still have mine installed. Love it. Even if it's a little old for today's standards. Have you ever tried the 'Enterprise Campaign'? Every now and then I have to play through it lol.

Great landing. With no LSO!? It took me forever to land on the carrier in Microsoft Combat sim Pacific. Loved the Hellcat >P-38 would kill you in a dive, Zero climbed like the homesick angel. Pretty accurate flying. Try an Immelman on the zeros when they climb.
Still more enjoyable gameplay than great battles.

Wow, Taff! Well done! Refuel and rearm for the second sortie to go after that last carrier, all you need is 2 more Zeros and you'll be a double ace in a day! Fantastic! Are you sure this was Midway and not the Mariana's Turkey Shoot? Lol!

this was my favorite campaign in IL2 1946 sturmovik.
but to play this i had to learrn takeoff and landing for 1 month but worth it

This game is fun but the numbers are not too scale.
The amount of aircraft were double this and much more important.
The US was losing the war addict the Japanese for the furst 1 1/2 years until Guadual island /henderson field and Guadalcanal/the slot battle.
We took the initiative away from the IJN
Do you have any mods installed for this? I know the vanilla game has a US Navy and Marine Corps career campaign but I wasn’t sure if there was more.
Way too shallow of an approach. Catching the 1 wire like that is dangerous heh. You almost drilled right into the fantail.

I remember only the horrible downloading procedure, indtalling a nightmare,buggy, and caused even a bsod..did they improve?
