- AUKUS, a trilateral grouping comprising the US, Australia and the UK came into the news when the US finalised a deal with Australia to sell nuclear submarines.
This made China furious because Australia gaining such military capabilities will further challenge China’s belligerent ways in the Indo-Pacific.
Rattled for months, China launched an anti-AUKUS campaign. But it faced a crushing blow on Friday thanks to India's "deft and impactful diplomacy".
Beijing was forced to withdraw a resolution tabled at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna against the alliance.

I'm at a loss to understand why India thinks its a good idea to oppose China on what is obviously nuclear proliferation. India's support for a US-led containment of China will in the long run entrap India itself when it has grown sufficiently to pose a threat to US interests. This is a one day tactical win that will become a strategic threat for India in 20 years.

I know it's seems like a shortsighted view because you don't know that feeling of sharing a border with an expansionist and communist country which has 5 times bigger economy than you and world's third strongest army, that feeling when one of your major allie(Russia) are having better realtionship with an another communist country. China took that water source years ago. Fresh water will only be more scarce. India does have a very large percentage of surface water comparative to most countries but they will also have the largest population by far (500 million more than China) within this century. Indian arms programs are notoriously aided by French/EU/Americans as most nuclear countries were. I think they just playing their own cards right for the moment. It is anything but shortsighted and is preparation, whether it's claimed for defense or offense. Americans are leveraging the Indian market and Modi has brought more economic stability in their eyes, the last issue stifling India is the lack of trust in the rupee for big business transactions. Fiat currencies never last and steal the peoples wealth so we'll have to see what happens. But as an American I can see India has bright future not far off. Probably going to be become the center of the world for a century atleast. It is free, loved by it's people, rife with spiritual life, regarded as a spiritual homeland for the world, and possesses the energy to change the world. China capitulated its spiritual culture during their "great leap forward". India-US relations will guide the world in the coming years.

India is well aware of the objectives of AUKUS, supporting it is a message to both the West and the East. The notion of supporting of transfer in nuclear technologies for marine use opens the doors to all developing states and increase the chances of nuclear disaster. There are good reason as why many countries banned nuclear ships or submarine in their territorial water.

Pretty sure they do. The primary function of nuclear submarines is as a platform for nuclear weapons. There isn't really another use for them which justifies the expense. So, first the subs are delivered and later the weapons are loaded under USUK control. Australia pays the bills and takes the risk, while USUK reap the benefits.

This will do nothing but force China and Russia to have stronger ties and for both China and Russia to ramp up their production of more nuclear submarines. This is imo very bad. I don't agree with India on this. There is no way Australia who has a population of less than 26 million can compete with a country like China with 1.4 billion people and who has the most powerful economy in the world. And Australia's economy last I heard is heavily dependent on China. Although China does import some things from Australia, it is not dependent on anything that they could not get elsewhere for example Russian resources and foods. Unlike Australia who would pay exorbitant fees to get goods from other countries if China is not available. Plus China is a semi authoritarian govt which means they have the ability to focus on their military growth much more than Australia can and also at the drop of a hat. All Australia will be doing is becoming USA's cannon fodder like Ukraine has. US is trying to start another proxy war with the most powerful country using Australia. I feel sorry for the fate of Australia but that is the govt they chose. I'm in the same boat here in the US as well (meaning we got horrible people running our government).

I’m British living in China and, can I tell you the difference between China and India..? The Chinese wouldn’t spend a single minute “putting down” another developing country. India, on the other hand spends every single moment of it’s time “putting down” China and celebrating every single minuscule incident it can find in order to do that.
