Alot of people consider Training Day, Glory, or even Malcolm X as Denzel's most iconic role, but I think this has always been his best blend as action & dramatic actor. His relationship with Pita is something very special and clearly was all he had left. It has always been my personal favorite Denzel movie. Believable story, unique/solid performances, with an awesome stylization and soundtrack. I always go back to this one, and the ending always delivers. R.I.P. Tony.
I really loved this movie growing up. Funny story, when Creasy fires a bazooka from an apartment window to a car, that was the apartment of a friend of mine from school. I tought it was pretty cool.
an underrated action classic, Denzel and Tony's high point as a pair and certainly one of the best action movies ever with a heart, little Dakota and Denzel were a dynamite acting duo.
I went to the theater to see Man on Fire…so damn good!! Denzel doing action films was the best combo we could get. He’s an amazing actor and the way he handles being cool, calm and collected as he takes down the bad guys..he just make it look so flawless. I love it!
As Christopher Walken said in the movie, Creasy is about to paint his masterpiece. This was and will always be my favorite movie. The acting across the board was phenomenal.
I adore this film. In my top 5 all time films. I would say it is Tony Scott's best film hands down. You can see a shift in his film making. Is it Denzel's......possibly so. His filmography is so large and filled with so many amazing performances it is hard to say. Denzel is one of the best actors going and he's a tour-de-force in this film. Perfectly playing a broken man with past regrets who has no reason for living until Pita changes that. When he goes into revenge mode....it's so good. The range of emotion Denzel shows is outstanding. Dakota is outstanding but always was as a child actor. Never understood how a child could act so amazingly. Her performance with Denzel's elevates the film. Add Christopher Walken and Radha Mitchell (Radha is so underused in Hollywood) and this film has it all. Plus, at 44 years of age, having watched the film countless times, the ending ALWAYS brings a tear to my eye. This is how emotionally involved the film gets you. Netflix TV series. NOPE. Recipe for disaster but Netflix never know when to leave something well alone.
This is pinnacle Denzel and Scott. And where I love the Equalizer series for the stories continuing with that character, this one just felt so perfect to end with trading his death for her life.
Just watched this again last week....for probably at least the 20th time. When you see it, you can't look away... That's a sign of a true masterpiece🙂.
Great movie. I love the revenge part of the movie and it is just so well done. Great acting, amazing cinematography and you sat there and couldn't wait for him to off them all.
That movie is a masterpiece, the movie makes you feel, It's a rollercoaster of emotions, denzel portrays his best character ever, he deserved an oscar for this movie too...training day is another masterpiece
Denzel' s character looks realistic because he is flawed and the end of the movie is a little different from what most people expect ( not to reveal too much for those who might want to see it).The girl ( Dakota Fanning) steals the show by her mature acting( given her age in the movie), and there is a role for Marc Anthony in the movie,( for fans of Latin superstar.)
I love this movie! Unlike nostnaction films, this movie focuses on the character of Creasy and his need to fight for something greater than himself. I think a lot of us veterans can relate. It is quite possibly the best "Punisher" movie ever made.
I don't see Man on Fire as a Punisher movie, Frank Castle and John Creasy are different characters. My favorite Punisher is the 2004 flick, same year that Man on Fire came out. I do think that Man on Fire is an even better flick than Punisher.
Great movie, always stood out as Denzel’s best and one of the best movies I’ve ever watched. Every 2-3 yrs I rewatch it and every time I’m hit with the feels
Wow it's quite interesting to learn that Tony Scott's ambition to direct Man on Fire 🔥 actually goes all the way back to the 1980's. But his failure with his debut The Hunger, got him kicked off the original 1987 version of Man on Fire with Scott Glenn. Scott's 2004 remake is the far Superior version with a masterclass performance in acting by the legend that is Denzel Washington. I would go so far as to say Washington's version of Creasey probably maybe an influence on Antoine Fuqua casting him as the new Robert McCall in The Equalizer. Both characters employ innovative tactics to get vengeance and justice for those they love and care for. The seeds were laid in this movie very well and I don't think you can get a much better and definitive version. Washington had done Crimson Tide with Scott in 1995. But his collaboration on this movie is probably why they continued to work on further projects after this. After Washington, Christopher Walken is inspired casting as his buddy Rayburn who breaks down brilliantly when he says "Creasey's art is death and he is about to paint his greatest masterpiece."
This is my most favorite movie that made me a fan of Danzel and Dakotta. And not to mention that the score of this movie is just fucking out of this world! That last scene will always live in my mind rent free!
I consider this as a precursor to denzel getting the equaliser and fits in as unintentionally prequel. Especially now with Dakota in the latest equaliser.
Glory, Training Day, Man On Fire, Inside Man, American Gangster, The Book Of Eli, The Equalizer what else he got. everything about this guy is great. I love every Denzel Washington collaboration movies with the director Tony Scott includes Crimson Tide, Man On Fire, Deja Vu, The Taking Of Pelham 123 and Unstoppable but Man On Fire is the best for me. It was just revenge movie but the chemistry between Denzel and Dakota in this movie were great like father try to protect daughter but they were not. The torture scenes in this movie was so brutal and raw. The final scene the bridge exchange the hostage scene just makes me cry everytime I watch.
I'm a little surprised you didn't mention how the movie changes the ending from the book. Also, does anyone else ever notice the similarities between this one and 'The Professional'...? =)
I love this movie and one or two times a year i Watch it...... So i agree with you 👍 best Scott and Denzel Washington movie. They dont make them like this anymore. Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
Cant believe i never saw this movie, i have to see it!!!.... just saw a couple of weeks ago the Substitute for the 1st time and i thought it was really good and Mark Anthony was in it playing the bad guy and he was great, dont know why he wasn't in more movies!?
Have you seen Man on Fire yet? It's one of my absolute favorite films. Marc Anthony is in another of my all-time favorites --- Bringing Out the Dead. Very different movies, though.
@@charoleawood.... i actually didn't, right now im in a horror movie vibe but in november i will try to watch...tbh i completely forgot but i watch some Denzel movies in the last couple of months... Unstoppable and Out of Time... good movies and AMAZING actor, top 5 of all time!!!
This is a terrific film one of my favorites great acting from everybody, decent story terrific lines and a solid direction from Tony Scott. Now I live in the Philippines in Southeast Asia when I saw this in theaters it was packed. I was not sure if it was the large spate of kidnappings that was occurring at the time but SPOILERS In the Scene where Creasy cut off the guys finger to blowing up the corrupt cop everybody in the theater just clapped their hands on those scenes.
I Can see denzel's son taking on the roll he's a very good actor and he has his own take on his father's style of acting so it wouldn't be a bad choice TBH.
The 2 films that ALWAYS make me "Boo-Hoo/Ugly Cry" at their ends are made by the Scott Brothers: Gladiator and Man On Fire. 100% agree, Netflix should leave perfection alone. Would love to see another big screen outing of Washington reprising the Creasy role with prequel stories or something. Which I always kind of saw The Equalizer films as a good surrogate.
To me Man on Fire is a drama and not a pure action flick. I think that Die Hard With a Vengeance is the best pure action movie ever made. Both are among my most favorite films of all time.
I'm mixed on this era of Scotts directing style, it has some effective shots here and there, but it also gets to extreme at points. I feel he didn't really nail this style down until Unstoppable.
Depends on your definition of best. I think "Ricochet" is his best movie. Its one if the most ridiculous unhinged performances ive ever seen him give. Its like denzel and john Lithgow just try to out-crazy each other for the last half of the movie and its simply glorious

This is an underrated movie, I love the bond between Denzel and Dakota's characters, it's truly the heart of the story.
👍👍👍👍
Their dynamic was the best part of the film
who under rates this movie. I believe it is pretty much agreed to be an excellent movie all around.
could have been better. some weird editing and style
The ending in the bridge destroys me every time
“I’m going home too.”

Denzel's best movie is...If you put all his movies into a blender and drank the smoothie. Then you find out they're all good.
Honestly, can’t think of a bad movie, or at least a bad Denzel role that’s just easily agreeable
Training day, flight, american gangster
Inside man, John Q, book of Eli, remember the titans he’s got a good 7-8 movies in my top 50-100 favorite movies of all time.
As Christopher Walken said in the movie, Creasy is about to paint his masterpiece. This was and will always be my favorite movie. The acting across the board was phenomenal.

This is the movie that really made me appreciate Denzel. Great movie and he really was perfect and believable in the part.
Love the use of Nine Inch Nails music in the movie. This and training day, his best movies!

Good great performances by Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning and Tony Scott never got the recognition he deserved as a director
This movie was one of my top 5 favourites of the early 2000s
I love this movie! Unlike nostnaction films, this movie focuses on the character of Creasy and his need to fight for something greater than himself. I think a lot of us veterans can relate.

It’s funny that when this movie was first released. The critics bashed it badly but now it’s a masterpiece, go figure.
I remember instantly buying the DVD a couple days after I watched this on FX back in the day !
Great movie, always stood out as Denzel’s best and one of the best movies I’ve ever watched. Every 2-3 yrs I rewatch it and every time I’m hit with the feels
This is a perfect example of why critics are a waste of space. This movie has everything and I hope we can get back to these gems

A retrospect on my 4th favorite movie of all time - and done by Chris!!!!
this and out of time are among cinema’s BEST
It's a fantastic movie overall. The original adaptation with Scott Glenn is also excellent and l really cannot imagine why it gets any hate.
The musical score alone sets the tone of the movie, especially at the end where he passed away in the car with Lisa Gerrard song playing.
One of my top five films. A masterpiece. Now a TV series? Good luck!
Not every movie works for everybody. This movie works for me.
This was and still is my favorite of his movies
Glory was his best movie, Man on fire is fantastic too!
one of my top fave movies of all time
Definitely in my top five along with Malcolm X, Devil in a Blue Dress, Deja Vu and John Q. There's only one John Creasey and that's Denzel Washington.
RIP Tony Scott
Man on Fire is one of my all time favorites! A revenge-o-matic that delivers the goods!
This Movie is FANTASTIC, Cinematography, Soundtrack, Story. I cannot believe how bad the reviews are. 39 on Rotten Tomatoes? Give Me a Break.

They have a few.
@@ernestorodriguez6392 I know, right? =)
Gladiator is my favorite movie but Man on fire is up is a close second, hadn’t really thought about that those movies were made by brothers
I adore this movie ! Definitely a masterpiece. Big Tony Scott fan in general anyway.
scott was knocking em outta tha park at the end of his career:
man on fire, domino, unstoppable, taking of pelham 123. etc...
whenever i hear Linda Ronstadt I think of this movie. It came out right after I graduated high school and i watched it so many times.
Could you please do a retrospective review for “Unstoppable” (2010)? It’s my personal favorite Tony Scott Movie.
I actually agree and i love so many Denzel films.
6:59
Abandon isn't the Clint Mansell score you should have mentioned, Man on Fire pays more clear homage to Mansell's work from Requiem for a Dream.
I think between this movie, training day and remember the Titans... Its a trifecta of awesomeness. Personally i love Fallen also.
It's between this and Training Day for me
6:38 they used music from the film "Phone Booth" as well (both were Fox films)
I love this movie and one or two times a year i Watch it...... So i agree with you 👍 best Scott and Denzel Washington movie. They dont make them like this anymore. Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
Nice to see they are remaking it and calling it Equalizer 3
A great action film. Probably the last great hard R film until the revival of action films that targeted adults in the mid 2010s

good stuff Chris. one of my faves
I just watched this yesterday. Forgot how good it was.
The Nightwatch and Daywatch subtitles are amazing.
Too bad most people are unsubscribing from Netflix for being greedy. Also I see it as a protest for canceling good shows. #BringBackDarkCrystal
My favorite Denzel flick.
While Tony Scott made the superior version, still recommend the version with Scott Glenn. They are a good double feature!
Definitely underrated
I love that movie, it's my Top favorite
Definitely his best, this movie is so good. A bullet always tells the truth
Great movie, like to see it get 4K treatment.
I love your videos

This film is a masterpiece.
I've always thought this movie looked interesting, but have never seen it. Sounds like I'm missing out. Adding it to my "must watch" list, now.
Did you see Man on Fire yet? What did you think?
A great typically Tony Scott style Movie, I loved it!

An action movie classic in my eyes damn the critics.

Yes it is.
His most iconic role is Traning day his best film is Devil in a blue dress
Its a masterpiece
Oh my gosh I so love Man on Fire. Please Please Don't ruin. It.
Would be a good title for a Human Torch stand alone film
its a great movie, wish the alternate ending was the actual ending.
I still hate how they only used the first 15% of the book for the plot of the movie.
