The bass player who rarely gets mentioned is Roger Glover who left the band to go into the other side of music, recording, producing etc. but came back to play when Ritchie Blackmore, the lead guitarist, started the band Rainbow and asked him to play bass, even though it was Blackmore who had him fired from Deep purple. Rainbow is another band you should check out with awesome lead vocalists such as Graham Bonnet, Ronnie James Dio!

Ian Gillan on vocals, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Roger Glover on bass, Jon Lord on organ/keyboards, Ian Paice on drums. Ritchie Blackmore then formed Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Dio sang in Elf (3 albums). Rainbow was the drummer, bassist and singer for Elf (Ronnie James Dio) with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. Then Dio recorded 2 albums singing for Black Sabbath. Then Dio went solo and Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan recorded 1 album with Black Sabbath -- Born Again in 1983. Then Deep Purple reunited.

I don't think Rap ever would have made it on the air, without his and a few other musicians efforts! He was very smart. I was fortunate enough to see him live. It was the "Frank Zappa and the Mother's of Invention" tour🤩 Awesome

Lol he also said in Switzerland he heard it on some Hungarian radio station. The othere band members laught at him said he always has intenas on. Meaning he just came up with the riff and said right it's easy. But if the Who can get away it so can they. One thing is certain Roger Glover had a dream the night after the event and woke up saying smoke on the water hence the name.

Frank Zappa is a bizarre genius musician. Eclectic brilliance and was always seeking musical perfection in a unique way. He was also tge first artist to combat sensorship of musical lyrics by US government in the early 80s started by the wife of AL Gore, former Vice President. In those days, records were really thick and flexible, so when our mum had had enough of hearing this one song over and over again, she yanked the record off the stereo, tried twisting it, didn't break, then threw it on the cement floor under the house. My other brother picked it up, looked at it, no scratches, put it back on the turn table and it played perfectly. 🤣🤣🤣👌...... Poor mum.

When I went into a musical instrument store to buy my guitar there was this warning and another one that said "No Stairway To Heaven" ... I think people can't take it anymore but I hear both ... every day. I love these songs 🎶🎸🎶

If you go down the Zappa rabbit hole, you will never be the same afterwards.

A few more by this band you may want to check out: Woman from Tokyo, Space Truckin, and Strange Kind of Woman from the live “Made in Japan album“, trust me on the value of doing that version. You won’t see the band but you’ll hear the music. Great vocals from your man, Ian Gillan in it. Also, the studio version of “knocking on your back door“

Frank Zappa is the one you need to know! Start with Freak Out, pick any random song (Help I'm a Rock is fun).

Without Jon Lord , Deep Purple would have been just another Led Zep.

Open-3-5; Open-3-6-5; Open-3-5; 3-Open … I learned JUST that in the '70s (I was a woodwind player). Then when I picked up a guitar and started lessons in the early 2000s, that was one of the first things I plucked out. I have Machine Head on vinyl and maybe more, but that one is clear in my mind in my many boxes of records. :-)

I've never played Guitar Hero, but I grew up listening to Deep Purple, so no GH needed haha.
    P.S - no one's better than Bonzo 😁

Love what you had to say. 🤘🏼 Thafs what it’s all about. Being open to understand others different than you and yours.
