Thank you for making this video Donny 🙏🏼. It’s a pretty scary world out there for creators. The sad thing is that creators like Dingo were even willing to compensate the owners of the content and turned down, which to me shows that those who are copyright striking aren’t doing it because they feel they are protecting their hard work, it seems to be from a place of ego or to hurt someone else’s brand/livelihood. Cruel.

So true. I was disappointed to hear Tyrone was one of the culprits. I won't watch ANY of his videos from now on, and they're surprisingly good. This is the type of behavior you would expect from a hack. Such a disappointment. He seems like a decent guy, but ya never really know, I guess. I'll only be clicking one more of his videos, to let him know he needs to cut the crap. I think he's probably the self-righteous type, probably against animals in captivity or something...or maybe he's just an enormous twerp.
Don't use other people's images and content. Create your own.
@@EarthsGeomancer Did you ignore the comment and just decide to be ignorant and goofy on purpose? Dingo wanted to fix the issue and compensate them and they decided to ruin his youtube career. Fair use is also a thing, which those thumbnails clearly are. Get educated before you have such strong opinions.
This is terrible! Very scary when someone, despite following the rules,can have their livelihood ruined by these fraudsters or jealous, vindictive or greedy people. Thanks for helping my friend Adam!

Tyrone is a great guy who actually contributes to herpetology. Not some pettuber who makes a profit off of content for beardy moms and the snakes in hats community. Field herpers like Tyrone are very protective of their work. You know how hard, dangerous, and time consuming, it is to do all that research, scout spots, spend alot of money to travel to said spots, find the target species, photograph the target species, and get back home in one piece? He's a real field herper! Maybe you should try it sometime Adam instead of hiring guides.

Donny, Love your dedication to sharing WTF is unfairly going on. Adam is such a good guy and an excellent teacher in his own right. This is nuts and why I believe RUclips should by law have human beings available for all discrepancies. Sick and tired of these tech companies being able to remove channels before everyone is heard. None of this is exaggerated and it needs to be spoken on. Thank you. I had great growth on tiktok, I hit 40k over 6 months. I felt free to make content under fair use. Now im scared because I had 2 copyright claims (in 2 weeks), and my growth immediately dropped to 2% a month net growth, vs the 15-30% a month I had before the claims. I don't even bother that much now because I don't have time to research copyrights for every image.
Way late to this party, but I'm curious why Adam or Dingo didn't reach out before using the clips? I do that when using someone else's photo, vid, etc., and include credit to them in the video. It's more about doing the right thing vs. fear of getting a copyright strike. Thinking these photos Dingo's person used for thumbs had watermarks on them that were cropped out. Not saying copyright strikes are the way to go here, but the burden is on the person using content that isn't theirs.

As a photographer myself, I think what this guy did to dingo was a real asshole move. Granted, people using photographer;s images for free is a real problem, however, when it's happened to me i've found just sending a friendly message saying "Hey, you used my image without asking, could you please just credit me in the video description?" Works well, I get some free advertising, they get to use my image, we all win.

Looks like dingo was only using segments of images in the thumbnails only. I don't see why he couldn't have yt cancel the strikes.
Thanks for raising awareness about this! I used to see Dingo's videos from time to time (youtube only suggested a few of his videos to me shortly before what happened, so I didn't get to see enough of his content to have subscribed yet); his content was interesting and he seems a good dude with good husbandry and a lot of passion from what I saw. I love Wickens Wicked Reptiles and would be really sad if they were shut down. Adam does so much to educate reptile enthusiasts about proper care and husbandry and raise awareness for endangered species, conservation efforts, and local laws.

I started watching videos from the reptile community at the beginning of the pandemic. The people I watch, as this video points out, are some of the most passionate, enthusiastic, genuine people. Props to NERD for bringing light to this. Idk what it is, but this problem with copyright strikes has affected so many people I watch - from all sorts of communities too.... sucks.
Also the problem with Copyright Strikes is Sometimes they come from outside the US where they are out of the United States Jurisdiction

I do believe the RUclips policy is getting too soft. The fact that Dingo got copyrighted for downloading images from GOOGLE is really stupid. The images are PUBLIC! Glad that Dingo stood up and you Donny helped Adam out. Thank you 👍
i’m not sure how true that is. if you use a photo of a celeb that’s available on google but was taken and is owned by getty images, they will sue without hesitation. just bc it’s googleable doesn’t mean no one owns it….

Good for you Donny! This reminds me of something that happened to one of my videos back about thirteen years ago. I made a very detailed video of my horse giving birth and posted it to RUclips. It ended up stolen outright! I reported the pirate and YT promptly took it down. I did find out that vet med students in Turkey were viewing it for one of their classes! I ended up making around $750 on it before RUclips wanted more professional and consistent content from creators.
I greatly appreciate the videos both Adam and you put out. And tbh this copyright stuff is a big reason I haven’t created a RUclips channel myself. I’d hate for some Punks to be ruining my channel.

Adam is one of the last people to deserve this. He not only provides invaluable information about a wide range of species, he is a fantastic ambassador to people who have never owned reptiles or are unfamiliar with their husbandry. His videos were a big help when I was considering coming back to reptile keeping after over 20 years. He's entertaining but also realistic about what to expect with different species. I easily consider him one of my favorite reptile RUclipsrs up there with Clint's, Snake Discovery and NERD. I would be very upset to see his channel disappear. Many thanks to Donny and the NERD crew for covering this unfair situation.

Honestly this is information everyone should know. Most communities are becoming very well educated on this subject and i can day from prior experience that everything, every word, in this video is completely accurate and I could not be more supportive of Adam and all other creators following this advice. ive had 2 utube channels deleted no community strikes no warnings nothing but boom DELETED. Utube needs better communication with creators and individuals because i tried the whole explain to the computer generated email and i got bupkiss

Understanding the fine line of Fair Use is really important. There is a key test that you need to consider before sending take down notices, and also using other people's work.
1. the purpose and character of your use,
2. the nature of the copyrighted work,
3. the amount and substantiality of the portion taken, and
4. the effect of the use upon the potential market.
Note, this is in the United States specifically. Not ALL countries will follow this practice. It would be interesting to know if you get a Copyright Strike in let's say the UK (or insert any other country), does that apply if you also get one from the US (or, again insert any other country)...

Dangit, I only watched Adam's video just last week! I recognize that one! It was "5 reptiles you've never heard of" (I actually recognized all of them, but then, I'm a MASSIVE nerd). And the people trying to burn him down are the same scumbags that went all Scorched-Earth on Dingo? What a pack of eye-rollingly-egotistical parasites. I seem to recall Wicken mentioning in the video he only used that particular Stiletto Snake content 'cuz it was hard to find material online about them. If the guy's content is so freaking great, then they should lean on it & show it to people--spread it around, show it off, not get all egotistically proprietary when people want to use their images. I don't understand why people are so creepy & grasping over their work. I'm an artist, too, & I don't get like this over my art. I'm HAPPY when people want to use it--just freaking ASK me, first, that's all, 'cuz I'd like to get paid so I don't starve. Have an avenue for communication using the work! Allow people to pay you for the work, FFS. You obviously took the time & effort to create it, & people will appreciate the result. People like Dingo & Wicken aren't thieves, they'll compensate you. Geez.

This is such a tough issue. Coming from an academic background I care a lot about plagiarism/copyright and take it very seriously. I try very hard to give folks who are stealing entire videos a negative review and never subscribe, as well as notify the original author. I’ll be on the lookout for folks who play the change a few words game…used to get my students a very low grade.
As far as the your situation with Google photos goes, I have a question. I looked through so many photos on Google of the Sonoran desert while trying to design the aquarium I hope to build. Well into copying photos and saving them for inspiration, I noticed that some photos were copyrighted. So, if I created an aquarium based on one of those photos, made a video of it and posted it without referencing or gaining permission from the photographer, could I receive a copyright strike? Or would that be fair use? Would that apply if I had a tank background made from a photo and the original photographer saw it in my video? I think the first example is fair use and the second copyright is infringement? I believe the photographer should have contacted you, not gone to red alert. We’ve always been a contentious society, but the last years have been very bad.
Btw my tank is on hold…he a very bad fall and injured my thoracic spine. No lifting until it resolves.

I think it’d be cool if they’d shouted out the source video via watermark or linked the source channel in the description. It may show some good faith when using content, even when it’s fair use. (I’m making a blanket statement here regarding RUclips in general).
That said, I don’t think it’d stop the copy strikers in many cases. It seems to be more of an emotional retaliation tool than a legal or technical tool, which is disappointing.

I see a lot of clone pages on Facebook all the time. People posting videos like they're the original creator for the money. Pisses me off because I've watched a lot of those videos, and I would much rather the original creator get the views and revenue for what they spent their time and money on making. And yes, I do report them. Facebook doesn't seem to care too much though.

Oh man, this happens constantly. Super annoying. I see it at least twice a year across the many channels on many subjects I watch. They really need to come up with better systems. Sometimes it's ai doing it and people actually have permission or even paid for the content and the owners of the content can't stop the ai because youtube controls it and they just signed up for protection not knowing it would go rouge. I have a strike on a colledge project video even though I have a licence from a class that was literally about licencing, absolutely kills the value of some licences when ai incorrectly flags things as violations.

I went to school for marketing and they really hammered it into our heads how important it is to credit everything. People will COME for you. And of course, people deserve credit for their work, but it really seems like people filing these claims don't understand what fair use is. I think it's always best to credit the person when in doubt. I never use any assets that I can't find a source for.
