Shortly after this all happened, he came into my store looking for another emerald, asking assenine queations, about a female we had available, asked if she was treated for crypto, and all sorts of other off the walls questions! Any breeder reading this please avoid dealing with john marshall
Oh that was you? I heard about this call. So funny
@NewEnglandReptile yes unfortunately we had the displeasure of dealing with him in person, he was offered an adult female for a more than reasonable price and then told us he and his wife have decided to invest in a pair of basins, we attempted many of times to assist him in anyway and he either ignored what we told him or told us he knew what he was doing
I’m not that familiar with snakes, only got into watching RUclips videos recently. How common is this crypto disease? It can’t be a very common thing, yet John Marshall is acting like it’s a weekly occurrence.
That is too funny!!! Treated for Crypto???? Oh my lord. K
@NewEnglandReptile Kevin you guys have no idea,he claims to own a professional cleaning company and he knows how to eliminate crypto in your home!!!
I have a snake from NERD. He is a wonderful and healthy animal. When I first received him, a few years ago, I asked the enclosure size he was kept in. So, instead of putting him immediately into the cage I had bought for him (which was three sizes bigger than the animal was used too), I adjusted my set up to a smaller one that was closer to the same size he was used to. Over the course of a few weeks, he ate a couple of times...and then I moved him into the bigger set up. No issues. This guy has brain worms.
Thank you!!!!! K
The brain worms have starved to death & he's operating on dust 😂
Olivia: NEVER give personl info to customers, there is ZERO reasonable need for that and it pus you at risk of harassment and/or stalking. Just fucking don't
Olivia is just super nice. Naive but nice.
👏👏👏 Fr
@@NewEnglandReptile she comes accross in these emails as a real sweetheart
This guy's annoying but this so clearly isn't a stalker personality...at all
I mean yeah, avoid it but damn
@@ChadDidNothingWrong Did you noticed how fast he became agressive as soon as the store responded to his question about if they thought his own setup could be improved??? What do you think he would do after Olivia tells him she does not want to fuck him because he is a moron???
From MY experience as a former snake owner, I wouldn't trust John with a house cat. He clearly doesn't know how to properly handle, and care for a snake. Furthermore, I find it very sus that he mentioned the disease PRIOR to the conclusion of this transaction. Therefore, any attorney, or just people with common sense, can see he is deliberately angling for a payday. Guilty pig always squeals.
People like John specialize in making everyone around them miserable. The guy is probably in his 50s, unmarried or divorced, has no kids or friends, and his snakes are the only ones that can tolerate him. However, after watching this video, he's obviously even making his snakes miserable.
Agreed completely! The fact that he suspected she had such a voracious disease and never took her in to see a professional, or warned NERD that he suspected she had it when he shipped her back, tells me all I need to know about the type of person he is. Obv she doesn't have it, but still, sending an animal with a voracious disease to known breeders without any sliver of warning could have potentially been a death sentence for their entire business if they weren't as educated as NERD. It's a really good thing they are warning breeders about this guy!
That's what I was thinking myself, I mean it's good to ask questions and make sure that your set up and everything fits with what Kevin usually does but to me at least it felt like he had less knowledge on emeralds even though he claims to have a couple of them.
If there’s one thing I’ve learn I’m my time keeping fish, cats and dogs (not allowed to have reptiles sadly) it’s that you NEVER get your care information from a single source. Research, research research! Gather data from all over and pay attention to what’s credible and what isn’t. If one source is saying something vastly different from all the others, take it with a grain of salt because there’s a good chance it’s misinformation.
Fish especially taught me that acclimation to new environments is SOO so important. You can kill a fish just by moving it into new water too quickly, you have to slowly add some of the new water to the old water to get the fish used to it and make sure the temperature matches. If you don’t, some fish are sensitive enough that the shock from the difference in water can be fatal. Reptiles are really not much different in a way and it’s no wonder, a person would probably be extremely stressed too if you plucked them out of everything that was familiar to them and put them in a completely new environment with no way of letting of them know what as going on.
100%
I work in a pet store, and 7 years ago someone adopted a ball python from us and returned it a month later claiming it had Crypto. They even went as far as claiming they took him to a vet and the vet diagnosed him with Crypto. The poor thing was severely dehydrated and had stuck shed all over. We knew it wasn't crypto because 1) none of our other animals were affected and 2) the snake left the store in healthy condition after meeting all required milestones in terms of weight, feedings, poops, and sheds.
We're pretty sure they just put him in one of those stupid "starter kits" that our competitor pet store sells and likely Googled "snake sicknesses" when he refused to eat the first time they offered food and latched onto crypto for whatever reason.
Keep in mind, this is a ball python. They are NOTORIOUS for refusing food under even the slightest amount of stress. And this one was a young juvenile who had just been moved from store to inappropriate husbandry. 🙃 of course he'd refuse food.
We discovered later that he had also begun to develop a wobble, as he is a bumblebee Morph, and that affects his feeding response.
Anyway I adopted him and it's been 7 years since his crypto "diagnosis" and he's still just vibin in his bioactive terrarium. He's a derp with zero brain cells but I'm pretty sure crypto had nothing to do with that 😂
Omg that's the sweetest thing.
Love that story. 😂 Zero braincell derps deserve to be loved too. I find it is often very easy to do so. Our neighbors had a cat like that. He was the dumbest old guy, but soooo loveable.
Love this! Thanks for sharing!
I was just researching ball python care, for a while now I've been thinking about getting one, but it won't be for a long while out, it's nothing I want to rush into b/c I've never kept a reptile before. Anyways, I was reading that ball pythons are pretty chill about stress and are good beginner snakes, ofc as long as they are properly cared for, so hearing you say they're sensitive to stress makes me wonder if I'm getting accurate info. If they're not stressed, are they good about eating? My biggest concern about keeping a snake is it refusing to eat.
@pandap4ntz in my experience its highly dependant on the individual snake, but in GENERAL yeah, I'd say ball pythons are easily stressed and refuse food often. That's not to say a beginner wouldn't be able to have a ball python, because they are reasonably hardy as well as generally handle-able and not overly huge.
You may want to also research corn snakes or king snakes as well though, as those are often also beginner friendly snakes!
The fact that they provided his name so that other reptile breeders can avoid unnecessary stress and drama is cool. They aren't competition, they are a community of reptile lovers spreading the love.
We might save a few animals lives this way
I have wanted one of these snakes for years and to see this one mistreated so badly makes me so angry and sad. It makes absolutely no sense to me to get a snake from NERD and then completely ignore every single bit of advice being given... the arrogance and stupidity of some people are just astounding to me. I would dearly love to have Crypto it's such a beautiful snake.
Poor animal. I'm glad they are doing this and hopefully other animals will be protected from this guy. He sounds exhausting. I had a roommate like this too. Just as exhausting.
@NewEnglandReptile you sell wild caught snakes but talk about saving animals lives 😂
@@ksea6565reptiles are trash
John Marshall is the kind of guy that SHOULD NOT OWN SNAKES. His setup looks like it should be for a desert dwelling snake, no wonder it was dehydrated. I was relieved you decided not to replace, and put another animal at risk. Some people just don't get it. There are very few places I could say I trust 110% and NERD is one of them!
also he admitted there was no uvb light in there.... if he meant a uv light then all of the reptiles he is keeping are doomed because they rely on that for digestion and production of vitamin d....along with warming their blood if it is a uv and heat combo.
Yeah, I was really glad the snake didn’t end up dead
I would be so upset if I rehomed an animal to someone like this. I primarily deal with dogs, and I absolutely would not have been as kind to this guy as everyone at NERD was. (Tbh, i probably would have demanded they surrender the dog for medical treatment and ensured they never owned an animal again.) Animals never deserve to be treated with such blatant disrespect and neglect by such a pompous know-it-all asshole. Major props to NERD for handling this situation so professionally
At this point, call recordings might be a good investment if you have more customers like this.
Yea probably so
@@NewEnglandReptile it's a 100% good investment, it's almost impossible to get them from the provider for the evidence in a civil lawsuit, and with enough stupid people, a damaging lawsuit is just a matter of time.
Maybe I've been burned and so biased, but I strongly recommend call recordings to any business owner I talk to.
I've seen it save livelihoods.
It would take a lot of hard drive space to save every call ;but opting to record bad customers can be done easy.

@@cwatson42785 Olivia likely wasn't let go. That was just a spiel to fix the issue of her giving out her contact information, and to try to avoid getting contacted constantly.
I was wondering why she no longer works there, didn’t notice whether they said they let her go or if she left (which is best, the less details they give rude customers the better).
More like they said she was let go to stop the harassment and correct her mistake.@@cwatson42785
The fact that in their comment about the animal they say they're moving the animal to a quarantine room is basically admitting they don't quarantine new animals which is a dead giveaway that they aren't the expert keeper they want to present themselves as.
Honestly you always quarantine away from your other animals inless it’s like you have reptiles and you are getting mice or rats might not be the best if they are food for any of the reptiles but mammals are not going to spread things to the reptiles
Like seriously. The fact they didn't quarantine AND put the snake immediately into that giant enclosure full of stuff that would hold onto pathogens and stress the snake tells me they are one of those arrogant people that definitely "knows" everything about anything. And thinks experts who have been doing it for 30+ years with thousands of specimens are wrong.
@@SandraNLNalso, if I understand correctly, didn’t his email state that there was a male in there with her?
@@spicypizza6116 that's what it sounded like, but maybe he had a male living in there that he put into a different container and intended to reintroduce once the female was established? Which actually would probably add extra stress if that enclosure smelled like another snake.
This was my first thought and I'm not even a reptile keeper.
I worked in a call center in a supervisor/escalations role. I had my own John Marshall that was a lawyer. These people are crazy, entitled, venomous, arrogant, pigheaded boors. There is no pleasing them unless you allow them to browbeat you and continue to do so. I'm glad that you have the ability to stand up for yourself. As someone who went through treating my snakes for Coccidia (the family of parasites that Cryptosporidium comes from) over a period of 6 months, I can tell you it's hell on earth to get rid of and a serious allegation to place on a breeder. Fumigation and treatment of your facility/house doesn't work. You would literally have to rip everything porous out, throw it all in the trash, heat treat everything else (aka, steam clean the walls, ceiling and floors) and then rebuild the interior. You could also absolutely soak everything in Hydrogen Peroxide with concentrations at or above 12%, but for it to be effective on the oocysts it needs to be on the surface for over 30 minutes. Hydrogen Peroxide evaporates into a toxic mist fairly quickly in my experience (I used it along with steam cleaning) so reapplication is necessary to get the full 30 minutes on surfaces. In my case it was isolated to a single room but when I finally finish remodeling everything I will have spent around $10,000 in vet bills and materials to rebuild. I also had to tear out about $2,500 in bioactive enclosures and I don't think I'll ever trying doing them again after this. The worst part was spending 6-8 hours by myself, washing with soap and water, every single enclosure, every single tub and rack, changing waters, bathing the snakes if they ran through their poop, washing hides, replacing paper towel substrate, forcing medicine down their throats that was slowly destroying their kidneys & livers not to mention intestinal flora, all this, every-single-DAY for 6 months straight. The kicker is that this wasn't even Crypto, just an offshoot in the same family that, by God's mercy, happens to be treatable with medication, and it was still absolute hell to get rid of.
I was only treating 13 snakes for 6 months. I don't even want to imagine going through that again, let alone with almost double the animals today. The whole experience almost completely destroyed my love and enthusiasm for my snakes. The 7 beautiful baby snakes I hatched out this year has slightly relit the spark, but I think it'll take a long while until I'm over that experience.
There are certain people I will not purchase snakes from for a period of at least 5 years because they've had Crypto outbreaks in their collections and even some customers ended up with sick offspring. I commend those people for coming forward and being honest about their Crypto outbreaks and what they did to make it right by their customers because it can literally break your reputation and entire future as a reptile breeder. I still won't be the guy who takes that risk though, not until they've had years without incident.
Slander like this can seriously impact your business if you don't call it out. Good on you for setting the record straight.
Great intel
Right here!! This is why I could not tolerate his misinformation. He is clearly misinformed and telling everyone this fiction was just too much so we had to respond. K
Ummm hydrogen peroxide does not turn into toxic mist. It actually seperates to hydrogen.... ya know water. And O2. that would be oxygen. The cool stuff you breathe in that keeps you alive.
Fun fact you can use hydrogen peroxide to keep fish alive by adding it to the water.
@painweaver9360 long term that is correct. Short term at higher concentrations, like what I was doing, is discouraged.
@@Gael32 hmmm interesting. How were you applying it? I could understand if you turned it into an aerosol fine mist I could see how that could be a problem.
@@pain_weaver Yeah. I wasn't pouring it on the surface. 16 fluid ounces at a concentration of 12% was, at the time, $32 per bottle. I didn't want to potentially transport the parasite oocysts on a cloth so I used a spray bottle to apply it evenly across 10 PVC enclosures and 3 rack systems.
On the bottle's warning label it says not to inhale the gasses and to ventilate the area after use.
Visited NERD facility locally a few times. Picked up 2 very healthy rainbow boas. From the day I purchased both animals both healthy strong happy snakes. NERD was nice & clean. NERD staff go above & beyond for those animals & customers. NERD taught me a lot, they graciously took the time to teach me. I am very grateful for the experience across the board. Thank you NERD! Thank you to Josh for all that you do for those animals your commitment to top level care & for your help in finding some of my very best friends! Thank you to Kevin for everything .. even talking to the animals in their language. Speaks volumes of the level of commitment to those animals.
The great thing about the free market is that if you're not gonna be around long if you're selling a bad product. NERD has been around for a long time, so people already know that this "John" guy is full of shit.
Aw we love that you do business with us . Thanks
Very kind! K
With my tiny amount of experience, I've observed that wild snakes avoid danger and don't want beef. Any wild snake I've ever encountered, wanted nothing more than to get away and hide, so the explanation about John's enclosure being too open and not giving her the opportunity to hide seems like common sense to me. It also explains why she would regurgitate her large meals. Btw, what was he trying to do, bulk her up? If an animal doesn't feel safe, I could understand why it didn't want to move from the most secure place it found in its enclosure. I believe that John also mentioned that she shared an enclosure with an adult male? Even if she was separated and there was only a glass divider, I'd bet that competition and fear would cause additional stress to her. With that said, to me, it seems like this kid may have had his own breeding agenda. Either way, people like John are the reason why I don't work in the animal world. I'm glad that you guys got her back and that she's safe. I was also relieved that he got a full refund instead of another animal. P.S. It's a very pretty snake.
I think me meant this snake went into an enclosure he used for a male he had, but the male wasn't in there anymore. But he still stinks! 😂
I was only listening to this video, but went back to double check, because it seemed to me that the buyer may or may not have been housing two snakes together -- looking at the email itself and listening to the narration, it seems there was a tiny disconnect: in the email it is clear that the male snake was kept in the same *style* enclosure, not the same one.
What I’m reading is that he wanted to receive the replacement, higher weight snake before “sending back the old one”. So he wanted to walk away with both snakes.
No, I don't think that was the angle, but he was angling for something that is for sure
@@tThisNThatno, it sounds like he didn't properly care for it

Maybe, it's that every normal person in his life checked out because he's an impossible person to deal with. He's starved for human interaction beyond, "Welcome to Wendy's." So he aims for situations with businesses who must interact with him.

Personal story: I actually caught crypto at a kids camp (i was a staff member in charge of the barn and animal) summer of 2018. I caught it from one of the goats we had and it was probably the worst abdominal pain ive ever had. And it gave me the worst diarrhea imaginable. Like food would run through me completely in 10 minutes. It was very difficult to stay hydrated and i can imagine it would be a death sentence for any reptile. Its not incurable for people thankfully. When they found out what it was through a fecal analysis they gave me basically an intestinal flush. I can’t remember the name of the medication but it essentially wrecked my digestive system to clear all the bacteria out and then another series of meds to build it back up again. I caught pneumonia on the end of it but after about 2 months i finally kicked both.
Sounds horrible....
Geez I didn't know you could get it from farm animals. Thanks for sharing this. I've been wanting to do some work at an animal sanctuary. I wonder if there's a way to know ahead of time if crypto exists on a farm or if it's a roll of the dice? Glad you got better!
Glad you're okay. It can kill babies, children, elderly, and immunocomprised people. Often kills people with HIV overseas. They end up with recurrent Crypto and die from complications of dehydration/renal failure.
@@echofoxtrot2.051 Oh wow, I had never even heard of it until watching this video. I’ve been looking into getting me and my kids a kenyan sand boa. Now I’m second guessing getting one because I have had a snake but I have basic beginner level knowledge about them (I have been researching and reading about sand boas off and on for the last year, I wouldn’t get one if I wasn’t confident I could take care of it) my anxiety would drive me crazy wondering everyday if the snake I got had it the very first time it wouldn’t eat and would be a mess thinking my kids are going to catch it. Maybe I’ll just hold off until my kids are older, I have bad health anxiety so I know I would drive myself and everyone around me crazy googling things all day and night. Is it common?
@kyrakennedy8207 Man I wish you could remember the medicine they gave you . If you happen to plz share thanks 😁
I think the only little "mistake" (for lack of a better term) I would have pointed out is that Barb, as fantastically as she handled the situation, did inadvertently confirm that the original employee (Olivia, was it?) was fired. Initially Barb did say that they no longer worked at the company, which John interpreted to mean that they were fired (she could have left the company for 100 different reasons - ill health, family issues, found a job more suited to them, went back to school/college etc.) However, then Barb responded that her termination had nothing to do with her professionalism/handling of his situation. This is by no means a dig at Barb, she handled him really well, answering all of his questions/concerns politely without brokering his BS. I would just be conscious of revealing information like that for two reasons; firstly, that if things did end in a negative way with Olivia, she could see this as her private information being made public, the second reason is that judging by the conversations with John here in this video it seems likely that no matter what the reason for Olivia's dismissal he will see it as a part of this conspiracy theory he has in his head that NERD are trying to scam him/gaslight him about the "sick animal" they sold him.
Again, Barb is awesome, this is in no way a dig at her - it's just something that is good for anyone who works in customer service to bear in mind - you have to be so, so, so careful with your wording when dealing with the public in a professional situation. It's shockingly easy for an error in the language you use to be turned round and used to bite you in the ass!
Olivia wasn't even fired, she just no longer does work with customer service. Really isn't an important part of the story, but i knew if I didn't cover it.. People would say we hid it
It would make more sense that she left the position because she was sick of dealing with customers like that lol
And the poor girl gave him her personal info too, lord knows what hell he gave her
I was always under the impression that you keep a new animal in a quarantine cage for a couple weeks REGARDLESS, and two weeks in a smaller container probably would've saved that poor snake a world of trauma. Like.... have you ever snake'd, my guy???
Or fish'd, for that matter.
Basic husbandry 101: After a regurgitation, you wait at least two weeks before offering food again. Was he trying to kill the snake??
It seems to me that the customer is an extremely anxious person. Like the way he was emailing them so many times in a row expecting to get a response during non business hours on the weekend is pretty telling. I don’t think he was purposely trying to hurt the snake, but he certainly caused a ton of stress. First off he fed it way too soon and too big of a meal. Then he tried to feed it right away after it regurgitated, not once, but twice! That’s some awful husbandry. Then he had the nerve to say that Kevin doesn’t know as much as he does lol
He was listening to snake experts on facebook
@@NewEnglandReptileI’ve seen lots of bad advice on Reddit too. People get their first snake and next thing you know they are experts.
@@F2007KR exactly! That happens with so many things on the internet where people think they’re experts on a subject because something may have worked for them. But when you’re talking about the health and wellbeing of a snake, especially one that was shipped to brand new environment across the country, you have to be very careful not to cause them unnecessary stress. He obviously fed it a little too soon and way to big of a meal. Once the poor snake regurgitated the meal, this overly anxious dude instantly freaked like the snake came to him deathly ill, but still proceeded to try and feed it the same sized meal again?? And then he repeats that one more time? Like no wonder the poor animal was totally stressed out which can cause sickness very easily. These are super sensitive creatures and I’d much rather listen to someone like Kevin who has a wealth of knowledge and years of experience, than some morons on Facebook.
@@NewEnglandReptileSooo not experts.
Goodness this customer is just??? Like not only feeding the snake food that clearly wasn't the right size but also being like "oh well all my other snakes are fine with these big open enclosures" like if snakes aren't all individuals just like we humans are so they one may just be more anxious than usual especially in a new environment. I'm honestly glad he sent that poor snake back because Crypto clearly needs an owner that's much more considerate of their specific needs.

Also, as someone who as a teen bred Gerbils for my local pet store as feeders I learned that when you first get your snake you're not going to feed it for 10-14 days to let it acclimate to its new environment. The dude treated that beautiful boa like it was a reticulated python. But even some of those rather voracious and happy to thrive snakes probably woulda been stressed. lol.
Chopper gets it.
While I never had snakes. I raised fancy mice. If I got a new mouse (even from established healthy collections and known breeders) I would quarantine, observe, and the mouse would be in a tiny area away from the rest of my mice. This would also let me know if the mouse was pregnant if it was female. I would introduce the new mouse after 2-3 weeks to the group it will be living with through a separator that kept both side safe if anyone had issues. I expect about 3-5 days of "meet and greet" this way. Then add my "meet and greet" cage that is clean, descented, and only used for these situations of adding a new mouse to the gendered groups. I had male and female enclosures, plus one breeder enclosure. I was very careful, I always had buyers for the fancy mice I bred, and I never guarantied color, fur type, or markings until the babies were growing out their fur and I could verify the patterns. I sometimes sold older mice to keep from inbreeding or sold pets (males neutered and females spayed to be pets, I had a great vet who could do both for mice and rats).
I figure reptiles get treated similarly if they are from wild sources or brought in from unknown conditions (new breeder source or just returned like the boa here was)
It's the same concept 4 real
You always get one customer that is never satisfied
Also, there are customers that refuse to be satisfied.

I wish people would set their pride aside. I got a snake from a breeder, and I struggled, the breeder was SO patient with me, helped me, and sadly I just wasn't experienced enough for that species at this time. I never once thought the problems I had was because of the breeder, people have to stop blaming breeders/sellers who have experience and know what they are doing.

@@NewEnglandReptile Always here to support you guys! I hope one day I can get my Canadian self out there Lol
At first I thought you were just giving John free publicity but I did listen. I owe you guys an apology, you all did what needed done. Thank you and I am so sorry this happened.
Totally giving him free publicity, he earned it
Very kind. Thank uuu. K
Basic animal husbandry, including listening to the actual experts, is so important. Unfortunately, some people still don’t get it and use their own confirmation bias to hear what they want to.
Good on you for calling him out on his bs. I'm going to guess he reported the first upload of the video. I wish people would realize Kevin knows more about his animals and animals in general before making themselves look like total morons!
from another comment the other video was taken down due to a mistake in censoring personal info
There was an uncensored employee phonenumber
Glad they pulled it so quickly to fix that censoring issue!
I took down the first video because the blur tool didnt work in a segment of the video, so I just reloaded it. Thanks for the love
Sounds like those Facebook experts, they need to find a new hobby. Kevin is brilliant and caring
Wolves, thanks for leaving this comment
One day I’ll will be buying from NERD. Seeing the attention to detail and love Kevin & the staff putting into each & every animal in your collection is a what it’s about. Keep up the great work guys. Kevin is truly an inspiration on how to care for and how reptiles are indeed truly amazing.
Don't worry Nate, We won't make a video about you lol. Thanks for considering us
Same! I've always wanted a hognose but I've been very hesistant about where to get one from cuz I want to make sure I get from a reputable place. This video has solidified my choice to go with NERD!
One of the only places I'll be considering. Honestly I don't trust the pet stores that deal with all pet types. Decor and enclosure sure. But the actual reptile? Definitely from someone with a reputation for good health in their animals.
The customer is NOT always right. Especially when it comes to a life and how they are treating it. This guy cares way more about his ego than the sweet creatures in his care. Or perhaps possession is a better word.
The interesting thing, the whole sentiment of "the customer is always right" was strictly in the area of customer service and was meant to be a thought tool to help employees not treat the customer disrespectfully when they brought up an issue. It was never meant to be literal but something ended up lost in translation.
@@peggedyourdad9560”the customer is always right… in terms of taste.” Literally just saying that you shouldn’t judge someone else’s food preferences, nothing to do with their competence (or incompetence) for raising a pet
I'm so happy to hear you refunded this nightmare snake-keeper instead of sending another animal to him! He doesn't deserve another snake, he's too arrogant to take care of anyone but his ego.
HOLY COW. And I thought *i* was being a pain when I just sent 1 email to the breeder asking for a feed log bc my hognose wasn't eating after a few weeks. Which they replied almost immediately and gave me some advice also.
I don't like going crazy and bothering people when I don't need to. This dude is nuts!
Im so happy you re uploaded this i was halfway through when you took it down and gutted lol! That dude knew exactly what he was doing in my view and may have been moving to get a more expensive snake from the beginning! The way you dealt with him was professional and exactly right from the emeralds point of view! Im glad crypto is doing well now xxxx (love the name btw lol) ❤
Yea, I'm sorry that I had to take down the original video! Glad you came back though
I'm gonna comment because I did on the first video for the algorithm. Putting a newly acquired wild caught snake in a big display enclosure with little hiding areas or plants, especially an emerald tree boa, is a horrible idea. So is adding it to the display room without quarantine. And trying to feed it within days of arrival. Especially an emerald tree boa. Which I have never kept, but researched and decided it was too advanced for me and went with a blood python instead. Which I grew out from a baby into a 4 foot chonky boy before having to rehome him since I couldn't handle him safely alone and lived alone.
This whole situation sounds like such a nightmare. I have nice cresties I want to sell but when I ask to see pics of their enclosures first I get ghosted. Good riddance anyway. So I stopped breeding them because if they can't prove they even have a set up yet then I'll just keep them until I find someone who does.
Thank you for being a responsible breeder! It's awful how often geckos are abused just because people don't do the most basic of research before getting them. A serious buyer who didn't have an appropriate setup yet would've just said so and then followed up with you once they had one.
@@MM-jf1me yes exactly 😊👍
Hey, I've been considering getting a blood python in the future, can you tell me a bit about your experience? I remember looking up their care a while ago and deciding that it looked pretty doable (I have a ball python already and the care for a blood python looked pretty similar with some moderate differences) but I'd still like to hear from someone who's actually kept one.
What?!? I have gargoyles (same care to my understanding), and the care is so easy like so easy..... I got mine from a local breeder and friend. I just copied her exactly as it was my first ever reptile. She even went to the pet store to pick out stuff. I never thought I'd be able to own a reptile because the care seemed difficult. My rats are harder to care for. I have three amazing geckos from her now!
Im so glad and amazed by you guys deciding to not to send him the second snake, very caring, loving and elite behavior.
I am so happy you clap back there at NERD!!! People know they can get upgrades n run with it. Shame on Mr. Knobbhead!!!
I commented on the first one too so here it is again :) the dude has problems. Sounds like crippling anxiety with a heaping helping of paranoia. He kept shooting off emails every time he had a new thought and was escalating the situation in his own mind to catastrophic levels. Dude was spiraling and you did the right thing by refunding and blacklisting. He was being a helicopter parent to that snake and giving him another one would’ve kept you in this loop. Get help John.
Sounds like unmedicated OCD combined with major anxiety. I also struggle with OCD(rarer presentation with few outward compulsions) and have come close to this kind of spiral before I got good meds to help reign in it. I really think he needs to see a professional for this because it's very healthy to live in that state of mind 24/7 and it can also cause a lot of unnecessary problems with other people, as evidenced by this whole kerfuffle. He also seems to be the type to think he's better than anyone else no matter what, I think that also needs to be addressed because it most commonly stems from a lot of deep-seated insecurity.
It's unfortunate that this poor snake had to suffer because of this guy's abysmal mental health and refusal to listen to the advice of far more experienced and educated professionals. I hope Crypto gets to go to a much better home after she recovers.
@@peggedyourdad9560 I agree! This guy _really_ needs to work on his mental health. Although I’m afraid his arrogance and know-it-all attitude will prevent him from seeing that. I’m sure he sees himself as the victim in this situation and not the problem.
Yea helicopter parent as a front, but in reality seems to me he was neglecting it,...clearly..because Crypto was super dehydrated...It can't get that way by good care...by over care...It gets that way by NO WATER, from high heat or just straight up not enough water either way dude was all wrong
@@peggedyourdad9560this guy sounds like someone from a generation when the understanding of mental health was abysmal. He might not even think mental health is a real issue he struggles with. I pity him. He can piss off though.

No one is perfect but Kevin is a darned good keeper. If I had to trust anyone it would be Kevin.
I also go to Donny to obtain information.
I also trust them I have been there many times and the animals that I have seen are beautiful and healthy and the enclosures are always clean... the staff is informative and educational and the ones i have met that have been there for a long time are excited to talk about them... whenever I am down in that area (I'm an hour 1/2 away) I make it a point to stop in.
Thank you so muchh!!!
Crypto is such a cute snake. I'm so sorry she went through all of that!
I agree. Although, I generally find emerald tree boas to be really cute/goofy-looking.
She will be fine shes in great hands now
@@NewEnglandReptile Great to know! Although, I doubt most people here would think otherwise. I know where I'll turn to if I'm ever looking for a green tree python.
Oh my goodness! What an absolutely beautiful animal! She’s beyond words gorgeous. I don’t know how you deal so calmly with people who zero brain cells firing. Bless you!
I’m so glad you decided it was better to refund him than to send him another snake to stress out and possibly kill. I also work in customer service and it’s amazing how these pain in the ass customers have the exact same behavior. Messaging over and over in a single day because how dare you not respond immediately? The way they try to type like they’re highly educated yet make grammatical errors. The gaslighting. The fake sincerity. You can spot em a mile away!
A very fair and well-presented video. I like visiting NERDS retail site, the animals are better cared for than at any zoo, even though it's called "Zoo Creatures". It's terrible there are people like this.
Yes. Donny missed one spot so he had to reupload with the edit. K
I recently purchased a ETB from a local breeder. After I got him I was terrified I was going screw it up. Had him for 6 months so far so good. But I went to NERD in the beginning with husbandry questions and they were awesome! I have purchased a ball Python from them and he is great!
Thanks for putting your trust in us
Trying to feed a snake after the trauma of shipping and putting a the snake into a new habitat is wrong. He should have left her alone, not shoved food at her. His husbandry, large, brightly lit enclosure most likely upset her. Mr. Marshall sounds like he has a quick, loud temper, not taking advice, threatening legal action against people who are trying to help him is an awful Omen of further trouble to come. Nerd should have had him ship the poor snake back ASAP, returned his money and shipping expenses and been done with him. I am so glad the female Emerald, Crypto, survived. Very glad you did not send a replacement snake to John Marshall who would have made the same mistakes again, risking the life of another beautiful snake. Sorry you had to deal with this very argumentative, dense, arrogant, know it all. Unfair for John Marshall to blame NERD for his own failings and refusal to follow directions. I bought a lovely Blood Python from Nerd in 2018 who is a gorgeous adult now. I would buy another snake from you again. Thank you for explaining this incident. Hope Crypto is well and thriving.
Crypto is thriving! And always will Thank you
John definitely is a Karen lol
Great job in the way you dealt with it Kevin and staff! I think the final decision was a good one, because the second snake probably would have had a “problem” too. Some people get too stuck in their ways to be open to anyone else’s recommendations. Kevin, you are AMAZING at what you do and put your heart and soul into every animal you encounter! I hope you keep us updated on Crypto and how she is doing. Donny, you keep doing you and kicking ass! You are very thorough and passionate when it comes to the NERD family! Take care guys and gals! Much love from southwestern NY! 😄💙🐬🐍🐊🫶🏼

Great video! Clearly Crypto was feeling super stressed and was visibly dehydrated. I’m glad she’s back in your care.
0:43 literally the first thought I had; why would you jeopardize the lives of your collection if you knew there was (potentially) any risks?! Whackyyyyy
Good for you! I work in customer service, and sometimes a customer's business just isn't worth dealing with an attitude. I'm glad you guys decided you were no longer going to put up with it. People seem to forget what they say online matters, and you get to see who they really are.
Luckily we arent corporate
I love how they named her Crypto 😂

This video is a reupload due to there being a piece of personal information that was overlooked when censoring.
To keep this video civil and informative and not have people potentially harass the person using that uncensored private information,
NERD immediately took down the video upon noticing this and reuploaded it with only the necessary information visible.
It's true, after constant begging, Donny got soft and finally allowed Snarfles to edit a video.
Let's all hope Donny learned from this foolish mistake.
But yet they reveal his full name withing the first 10 seconds and in the thumbnail these people sell sick snakes look at what happened to Lilith
@@michaelpark616 He goes by his real name on seemingly all of his social media accounts, so yes... NERD called him by the name he presents himself as... o.0
If you'd have any proof for them selling sick snakes, that would likely be a very useful information for them to hear. I suggest writing them an E-Mail with all your findings. As for Lilith, your incredible knowledge on how to keep a wild caught, one of a kind leucistic King Cobra alive, would be an invaluable addition to your E-Mail.
Hope your expert opinion can help the boys and girls at NERD out. Keep me updated. ^^

So many red flags. All the red flags.
Even removing most obvious flags of this terrible person, if you have other reptiles in your home, why would you not immediately place a new arrival into quarantine?!? New arrivals should always go into quarantine no matter where they come from.
Especially a wild caught.
it's one thing to take the risk on not quarantining a captive bred animal, but something that's come out of the wild?
That's order's of magnitude higher in terms of risk.
That was my immediate thought before even clicking on this vid. May this man never watch and care over another living being.
that little emerald is such a trooper, surviving such bad husbandry AND being the first snake to get over crypto!! for real though, im so glad she made it back to you alive. between the enclosure and how he was trying to feed her such an oversized meal days after shipping (and trying AGAIN when she threw it up) i literally had to skip ahead just to check if the snake made it back to you alive. where in the world did he get the idea that any of that was right? its so easy to listen to the experts who know how to keep an animal healthy and stress free. i wonder if his insistence on feeding her too much and too soon maybe implies he was planning on "power feeding" her for breeding... he put yall in a really tough situation, im just glad you managed to save that snake!!
For someone with so much "experience" this guy is just ridiculous. I don't own any snakes at all, but have watched enough videos that even I know you shouldn't feed a snake just days after you get it! I'm glad you got Crypto back, she's doing better, and most of all that you didn't send that other snake to him.

I just love looking at emerald tree boa faces, they just look so goofy lol. I hope she's doing much better now.
So happy you cut ties with that guy, thank you for not sending him another animal for him to neglect
Diagnosis is most often made by PCR or Polymerase Chain Reaction testing for the Cryptosporidium DNA in swabs from feces and vomit. This method has proven to be the most reliable method of detecting the parasite due to its small size. A real reptile collector would have done this. This complainer doesn't deserve any respect, John Marshall needs psychiatric help
I'm sure he's getting the help he needs
On point right there! K
“Enclosure size is a matter of opinion. Some say your enclosures are too small.”
Okay but that doesn't change the fact that it's stressed by the difference in size! The animal is not used to that size of enclosure. So even if he were using the “right” size, he could still be subjecting the animal to stress.
This is satisfying to watch. Good on NERD for KEEPING CALM and getting Crypto back.
I got through about half of this before it disappeared last night - Dude is an asshat. Good on your for not letting people get away with this crap. TC guys. This video IS a reupload, but even if you've already seen this video, please don't go back right away because that will make the youtube algorithm think this is a bad video (or at least that's what I've heard)
That's why I'm rewatching it (on quiet), and am commenting. Let the Algorithm know it's good drama and informative at the same time :D
Do we need to watch it all the way through for the purposes of the algorithm or could we just skip to the end?
@@MM-jf1me Well, im not really sure about the details of algorithm. Though I know for the channel's internal metrics they can see when people stop watching their video/if they skip around.
I just assume RUclips factors in watch-time for the algorithm as well? But skipping to the end /might/ work, because that usually then shows it as "watched" in your sub-box? I have no clue there.
But i do know that general engagement fuels the algorithm (likes, shares, comments). so i guess your comment probably compensates if you don't wanna watch the video all the way through, haha
Agreed! I just put the sound down low and "rewatched" it while I read my book before bed. It's important to always like/share/comment/interact on the videos to support their creators.
@@SandraNLNit would be nice if there was some way to find out what affects the algorithm and how. For example, I watch an artist's channel and at the beginning of her videos she explains a product she had made and is selling. The first time I watched it all through as I was curious about the product but now I skip ahead 10s a few times until the video itself begins. I did wonder the other week when she said "if you've seen this product thingy before then feel free to skip ahead about a minute to get to the art tutorial" whether that would actually register on the analytics for her channel and affect the algorithm?
Just look at the difference between Marshall’s giant enclosure and Kevin’s shoebox covered in paper. Marshall wanted that animal to be a display piece right away. My ball python I received from NERD went into a shoebox container like Kevin recommended and eventually into a small VE-70 rack and he is a strong feeder until late autumn through mid spring.
Yep! You have to work a snake up to that point, you can’t just thrust them into a big wide open space. Especially when it was just shipped across the country. You have to get the snake comfortable with you and get him eating eventually. You can’t give it a giant meal 3 days after you received it and expect it not to regurgitate it. Then he instantly comes to the conclusion that this snake is deathly Ill because of that
Funny how he is willing to take another snake (I wouldn't if I was worried about the shop's husbandry).
You guys are the best. Getting my enclosure set up for my snake. Once I have everything in place I will be ordering from you. Keep up the good work.

I love the name Crypto and the comment about “smooth brain individuals”. I always use smooth brain when insulting someone, it gets them thinking with their smooth brain! 😂
Establishing a snake from one enclosure to another is very much like bringing aquarium fish in the bag from the pet shop. You float the bag in the newly established aquarium for 30 minutes to get the acclimated, then you release them. And you don’t just put fish in straight away, you wait a week or two for the good bacteria to build up.
This video was well put together, a lot of speaks for itself but well done well done. So many colorful individuals out there…
I do not know much about green trees but she is so nice! You poked her and moved her to look at her, and she didn't attempt to bite you. She is so shy!
Great job as always! Love to the crew kevin Barb and Donny and everyone else! Thanks for all you do
Man, I can't wait to unleash chaos on you faygo.
With any creature, you have to get enclosures that are proportionate to the animals size. Stress is the biggest killer. Tarantulas, bearded dragons, snakes, etc. need their enclosures to grow with them, not before them. Also, you should never feed within the first 5 days of receiving said creature and always start smaller just to lessen the work and possible intimidation. Marshall just wanted to fight that's all
I've had snakes and one sadly passed away due to the other one being wild caught, I was under 10 at the time and both snakes had been gifts, I was very green behind the ears. However, my first snake, a Western Ribbon, was friendly. I didn't know about the quarantine thing then and the stress. But I did have it set up somewhat properly. A rock to help with shed, light for warmth, water bowl/etc. I didn't have plants since I didn't know a lot back then. But s/he was a great eater, quickly got used to me, and was very active. If I knew then what I knew now... I wish I had told the guy not to give me the wild garter. Seeing these videos from those like Snake Discovery makes me miss my snake more and wish that I had done more. I'm just glad you got the snake back and blacklisted him.
I had an experience with crypto with a corn snake years ago. I actually just threw out the entire glass enclosure so there was 0 chance it could spread.
