Papa is such a sweetheart. Please feature him more if you can.
I’m pretty sure he was in Clint’s video on king cobras. It’s really informative and entertaining plus Lilith makes an appearance!
@@HHLucifer666 That was Otis
I agree. He's a sweetie
Yes, i wana see him more 🥰
"Why do we still have Obsidian?"
Obsidian: **HHHSSS** "Hateful."
lol
We keep our kids when they get hateful! LOL. Mine are 44 and 46 and can get hateful occasionally LOL glad they have their own homes I can send them to when they show their butt! LOL POOR Obsidian doesn’t have a place to go!
Old man heard that and felt insulted.
wow i cant believe how chill papa is, you were holding him by his neck the whole time and petting his chin and he loved it! you can tell how safe he feels
While I don't like the practice of de-venoming, I can't deny that a king cobra without the venom would make an amazing pet snake given how intelligent they are and how friendly they can be when handled and socialized.
True, but at that point it's better to get an Eastern Indigo snake. Similar in many ways, but without the venom
@@HolyNorthAmericanEmpire Eastern indigoes are endangered in the wild and have tight regulations in captivity - in America, they can't cross state lines (because of the endangerment, and because the captive gene pool is so small that the captive populations have troubles with inbreeding). It's actually harder, in some places, to get an eastern indigo than it is to get a king cobra.
@@electrowave114they have really good meat. Any idea where i can get one? We loved to eat them in vietnam.
@@skuzzlebutt9745 I live in Canada, and I don't think anyone in Canada or the USA is selling cobra meat. And generally speaking, anyone selling venomous species will want you to have training and experience with venomous creatures.
I LITERALLY think the exact same thing !😊
Donny: "Why do we still have Obsidian?"
Obsidian: **HISSSSSS!** "Dad, why do we still have Donny?" 🤣🤣
Lol that hiss was like "The nerve!!"
I have ptsd and my snakes are my literal sanity. They saved me.. seeing your report with papa made me cry.. this is what good true reptile handling and care is.
I want so badly to meet papa one day just to see you with him.
Epic
Tbh I’ve had a fascination with king cobras ever since I was a little kid. I remember the first time I fell in love with them too. They were what got me into reptiles in the first place! I call it “the twinkle eye effect” and what it means is it’s where you find something you know you want to dedicate a majority of your time learning about a subject, whatever it may be. For some it might be machines, for others, it might be the human body. Still others might find it in something as mundane as how to improve the design and functionality of a paper clip. It’s all completely dependent upon the individual
Papa is so damn cute. I love how kevin stuck up for the one in shed 😂 we have him still donny because I LOVE HIM. Hahaha. His little gnawing move was adorable honestly. Loved the video loved the info another great one guys keep it up!
He is !
If you want to continue to bring new people into the hobby, and keep them interested, you need to have the right personality to do these videos, which Donny, Kevin, Jeremy and Rob have. If you can’t keep them coming back or have them immediately shut off your video after a few seconds, your channel will not grow. Thanks Donny and NERD for everything that you have done and continue to do!
I really appreciate you, and all that you do for us Christine! Thanks for seeing the big picture, I only want the best fr our channel! I hope Kevin gets everything he wants out of life, and I don't think we are going to get there if we aren't pushing ourselves to the max!
Quite true
@@NewEnglandReptile just reading this 5 months later im watching this video for the 2nd time but, I can understand Kevin not wanting to go against his morals and the message he's trying to represent, thats more important to him then growing a RUclips channel but I also understand Donnie wants to grow the channel and get the information to as many people as possible so that the right message ultimately gets to the majority of the masses ...... its a compromise this is Kevin life and true love and morals and character is super important and rare these days and thats why I absolutely love this channel because it respects every animal involved in the life cycle, I say that to say this keep up with kevins perspective for the most part because it sets this channel apart along with the amount of experience, love, respect, and knowledge everybody has especially Kevin the knowledge end, push some of the boundaries in a fun not disgusting fetish type way of watching animals being eaten ect..... because you could loose the amazing fan base you have now that is watching for the information and genuine feel of the channel ( this is just my opinion) but I would rather have a really good set of subscribers that rock with me and truly care about the integrity of the channel and how information is presented and the animals are treated then having a huge amount of subscribers that really don't care and just want to see the gruesome shock factor, NERD represents responsibility, care, and maintaining the best possible life for a captavie animal( again my opinion) and trying to teach others the same to give their animals, and thats amazing 👏 applause for everybody in the team, because its hard work and constant learning and adjustment to care for animals!
Always love watching Kevin and Rob. So informational. Love seeing the older snakes. That's another thing people don't get to see is older animals and how long they can live with proper care. Great job ya'll.
That was a great statement that I wish the people who keep venomous reptiles and "free handle" on there utube channels would understand that if the worst case scenario would happen and they did get bit, it is just opening up to laws that forbid people from owning these reptiles responsibility. This was an amazing educational video thank you as always.
We are glad to have you watching dude, we are trying to grow our audience in the venomous world! So stay tuned
I don't like the fact that papa's venom glands were removed but I'm glad you have him. Thank you for always taking off your animals.
I'm sure Kevin doesn't like it either! However, it was done by Papa's previous owner and it's not something Kevin can have reversed. I'm just glad that Papa found his way to Kevin so he can live his life with someone who will give him the absolute _best_ care possible.
What are the issues with removing venom glands?
@@falcon2345 it can lead to multiple things idk much about it but I know that there is different ways that people do it sometimes they rip out the fangs and some sue the mouth shut like those shows you see in India and other places like that
@@reasreptilereacueandrehabi926 so the issue is not removing the glands it is the practice done to make them not as bitey huh
@@falcon2345 oh cool I didn’t know that thx for the infon
Man that copperhead broke my heart. Glad he’s in good hands now. Also, pretty sure Papa is actually a kitten with a really really long tail!
I always thought snakes are things to be feared but they are more afraid of you. I was under the impression the constrictors were the only ones who would not have a problem with people because they see us as prey. I really enjoy learning about these guys. Since I’ve started watching this channel I’ve been able to be less afraid and can actually look at snakes without being uncomfortable. Thank you for that.
Im in a snake fb group and its had the same impact on me. However I will say the line about animals being more scared is always nonsense. If someone accidentally steps on my foot I dont turn around and shoot them whereas a snake will do the equivalent of that. Also snakes go into houses in like india or somewhere like that and bite and kill sleeping kids/babies. Snakes kill like 150 thousand peopke a year and seriously injure/require amputation on another half million people lol.
Thanks for making this video. I don’t think many people realize just how awful the venomoid surgery is. There were so many botched surgeries on snakes when these were more common to do in the community. I’m glad they aren’t common anymore. Keep up the great content and showing us all your awesome snakes! 💜 Fly
I actually gasped really loud and threw down my piece I had in my hand because I'm doing a puzzle when Kevin said they sometimes suture their mouth shut or do stupid things to snakes in india....like my heart sank I can't believe people are still getting away with that in this day and age😭😭😭
I’m glad you left this comment buddy, glad to have you
I know it’s so incredibly cruel and undeserving a true tragedy what those poor snakes are going through
They still get away with doing a lot of horrid things in India thst are never brought to justice
@@sera.84 not saying it’s right, because let’s get real, it isn’t, but I think a lot of it comes from the culture surrounding snakes in India and how that clashes not only with the dominant religions, being Hinduism and Islam, and how those clash with the political and medical fields in the area. Not entirely sure on that last part tho so I’m just spitballing there but everything else stands unless I stand corrected
@@HHLucifer666 Cultures that are doing cruel things like thing need to reform. Many cultures have but for some reason there are some allowed to still be barbaric.
I honestly could sit and listen to Kevin all day. He's so articulate and intellegent. And of course he truly loves and cares for all his animals which makes him a winner in my book! That said, the Nerd team are ALL awesome 💕
Thanks for loving the nerd team ! Kevin loves to talk soooo you are in luck
That’s so sad he had his venom glands removed .. that’s like declawing a cat .. I’m so glad he’s with you though Kevin , couldn’t be in a better home & Hi Papa ❤️
I’m glad people aren’t doing this surgery anymore either
@@NewEnglandReptile what's good about venom?
@@leahanderson1576 Venom is surprisingly very valuable and useful for pharmaceutical research because it can actually have medicinal uses. It has components in it that can help in treating things like strokes, heart attacks, and embolisms, so its used in pharmaceutical drugs.
@@leahanderson1576 venom actually aids in the snakes digesting too :) why would you get a snake if you don’t want it venomous?
@@psychedelicjungle6954 it can also be used for cancer treatments. My uncle in law got treatments made from rattlesnake venom to treat his. Nature is a miraculous thing.
Thank you for showing us how to respect reptiles and observe their behaviour in various situations. It's great to see that you have some senior reptiles in your collection and how valued these are. You got me hooked on ball python genetics which is a subject that is interesting, complex and fun. Stay well. Hugs from the UK.
We love teaching ! Thanks for letting us know!!
I watch all your videos! I don't think I will ever get tired of watching Kevin with the animals. He explains things so well and is so knowledgeable about so much. You can see and hear the affection he has for all of his pets! Have a great day wish you were on the west coast so I could meet you all.
That cobra acts like a puppy dog when you rub him is crazy!!
You always give the BEST information on handling, taming down, and the personalities of different reptiles. I learn something new every time I click on one of your videos. Mad respect! 👍
I love the way you guys teach so well and always reiterate the info about what not to do. Your snakes do always seem so laid back, but I still wish their cages weren't so bare.
Tell me Papa doesn't look like a sweet little brontosaurus!!! His face looks like it's from "The Land Before Time." 😍
I'd love to meet Papa and Emperor Snarfles one day
Gosh I hope you get to Ken!
It's on my wish list for an anniversary trip . I can't wait to get to see snarfles and all the other animals . I used to be terrified of snakes till I listen to Kevin teach I've learned sooooo much .
Same! So sweet and docile would love to meet these cuties, deserving of all the love
Not gonna lie, interacting with a cobra like you did with Poppa would be a dream. I love these snakes but of course, most aren't hand tame. He's adorable!
But no, I don't think snakes should be altered like that for our convenience. Certainly not just so you can keep one as a pet. But maybe a few just to be raised like Poppa to be ambassadors.
Love you guys and the work you all do, the passion and love for the animals always is upfront, y’all’s fame/notoriety I think is just a result of being awesome about that love and passion! Deeply appreciate y’all and all the amazing animals you guys work with! Love from the PNW!
Love seeing these old snakes still doing amazing!😍😍 You guys are always doing the best for em! Keep being amazing!! 💚💚
I know that in some snakes the venom does help the snake digest their meals. I wonder if that affects venomoids ability to eat and absorb all the nutrients from their food?
To be a successful reptile youtube you have to be equally informative and entertaining. A lot of people already in the hobby don't like the fact you have to entertain to grow your viewership but it's how you get new people interested in the hobby. The more people that get interested in reptiles the louder the communitys voice will be and less unfair laws will be able to pass. Great job NERD and great job Donny!
Papa is amazing and he really does bring out the feelings of empathy. I love snakes a lot anyway but Papa really touched me. 🐍❤️🐍
I enjoyed meeting all these snakes and I am very happy they are well cared for. I cannot understand how anyone would be so cruel as to remove their venom glands. It reminds me of declawing a cat. I love all snakes and having snake educators to show people how wonderful they are. Thank you for all you do for snakes.
Actually it's not cruel instead it's a Stupid decision. The snake is perfectly fine except for it's venom glands. Idk about their past but what they indicated here they didn't said they're were in bad shape so I say the owner did well raising them but ended up giving it to the another owner which is him. Also why you mean declawing a cat? You mean cutting your cat's claws which is also fine. Btw
Kevin is the man best in the biz with info and just cool animals
We appreciate you leaving this comment legit bro!
Removing a snakes venom glands is like de-clawing a cat. Just not good, period
Agreed
On the other hand, declawing may be cruel to an extant but it has/does kept destructive cats from being dumped or killed by owners who owners who couldn't deal with their shit being torn up. Sometimes owners aren't especially down with the procedure but are given an ultimatum by their landlord: claws go, cat goes, or you both go.
On the 3rd hand if you're a mutant, or one of the feet if you're not, comparing cats to venomous snakes isn't really fair. Venomous snakes belong in their natural wild habitat aside from a few circumstances. They're not and never have been domesticated. The cats typically kept as pets don't even have a natural wild habitat...right? Or am I wrong about that? Feral cats exist but (correct me if I'm wrong) originate from domesticated cats; at some point in their ancestry, a pet cat became a homeless stray, who went on to reproduce and the offspring were raised without much, if any, human contact. Take measures to reduce the incidence of pet cats become strays, even if it means the dreaded declawing, along with spaying/neutering, and the invasive feral cat population will slowly decline over the years? Idk, maybe not but it seems logical to me.
Just so we're clear, I don't like the idea of declawing in general but I have seen it save cat lives. I know what the procedure entails and I'm not a sadist. My thoughts on the topic are more along the risk/benefit analysis line in regard to the average American cat owner/potential cat owner who doesn't consider or maybe even know about other options. Which is more cruel? Declawing a cat to stop it from scratching your shit up and continuing providing a home for it? Or abusing/abandoning/killing it to keep it from scratching your shit up?
I'm not pro-declawing and, if anything, I'm anti-cat (nasty destructive stinky bastards) lol but don't like seeing them tossed out for shredding furniture and whatnot by people who would've otherwise kept them if not for the destruction. Obviously, the problem mainly lies with owners who don't bother with attempting to train but they're gonna exist either way.
@@RC-bs6eb it comes down to training, and lack of education. there are plastic caps you can buy to stick on the nail
@@truthfulkarl yeah, no shit. Do you really think the majority of cat owners who would toss their cats out on the street if declawing wasn't an option care about that? Or that even if they did, their landlords would? If so, pass me some of what you're on.
@@RC-bs6eb declawing is just cruel. Period. Sometimes cats get out. If they’re declawed they can’t defend themselves. I’m not saying I’d rather them be put down but for me declawing is just not an option but I do understand your point, I just feel that should be an absolute last resort to finding them another home where they don’t have to be declawed. As far as the feral ones coming from domesticated cats we didn’t domesticate cats from my understanding. They domesticated themselves. They chose to come around humans and kill rodents that we attract and people in turn fed them and became close with them partially because of the service they provided and partially because many of them like to socialize and cuddle with humans. I believe it started with the Egyptians. Someone please correct me if I’m mistaken.
I appreciate these videos. I spend an irrational amount of time thinking of snakes because I’m such a baby I just think they’re everywhere waiting to bite me. These videos are helpful in showing more about snake nature and helping me with my fear.
When I moved to Texas I saw several snakes in my yard because my house backs up to a field. I watch snake videos so I can identify the venomous ones and not be scared of all of them. So far I've run into a rattlesnake, but no other venomous ones.
Jason trolled half of the NERD viewers lmao
I love that guy!
You can tell how much that snake is thinking and just taking everything in and how happy he is
Papa is a very sweet boy, very sad they removed his venom glands as a baby, but glad you have him!

Thank you for sharing this with us I think it is so sad what they did to those beautiful creatures thank you for stepping up and taking care of them instead of letting them get put down how cruel some people can be keep doing what you do because we need people out there like u
Your channel is incredible. Im learning so much about snakes that I never thought of. Thank you for what you do and being a voice ro show a whole new side to these beautiful aninals
I am one of those people who used to shake my head at reptile owners. During quarantine I started watching Brian's channel and now I watch and follow so many reptile owners. I still do not want to own a reptile, but I appreciate these animals and love learning about them.
Kevin you are my favourite animal person, I say animal because I can tell it’s not only reptiles you have empathy for, even through the screen I can feel your compassion for all living creatures. ❤️
Personally not a fan of snakes as pets but I do appreciate them. Please keep up the excellent educational work you do with these videos. I respect the value snakes have in nature and will never harm one. When you mentioned some of the tricks the snake charmers use just breaks my heart and makes me feel ashamed that I'm human.
then don't identify your pronoun as human.
Hey donny, good job on this one. You have been killing it with the nerd videos. This one as far as pacing, upbeat smooth music rolling, all for an educational video like this was perfect. Made the video feel like it was only a minute long. Keep it up
Thanks budddy
De-venomized or not, he’s still a king cobra. They are not known for being so docile and calm. They’re very well known to have bad attitudes. I’m beyond taken back by how calm he is. I just can’t believe how relaxed and trusting he is of u. I love that. He’s so beautiful.
Actually King Cobras are non-aggressive unless you piss them off. You're confusing them with the spectacle cobra (the one with the marking in the back of the hood), which wants to bite/kill everything that gets close to it.
King cobras are highly intelligent and not agro unless threatened. Same is true of all snakes, they don't get aggressive unless they feel threatened.
The way you get people interested in the reptile hobby is to just BE AUTHENTIC! Your guys' personality drew me in like a moth to a flame, and I was instantly enamored with NERD and everyone who works there. Through NERD, I was introduced to USARK and many other great people like Donny, Rob, and Kevin, for example. In terms of the venemoids, I am so thankful that you guys have given them a home where they can thrive and live their best lives. Cheers to Donny and NERD for everything you're doing and have done!
If I'm honest, NERD pulled me out of a pretty deep rut and motivated me to become more active within the reptile hobby again. For that, I will always be thankful. Sending all my love to you guys. Stay healthy and safe!
I love this video!!!!! I want everyone to share this everywhere!!! I recently saw a video of someone who took horrible chances with a snake tank they had removing a baby and with the snakes in that tank. I watched this person for years and I think he could be an amazing educator. I was so upset I voiced my opinion to him about the risks he took.
I tell everyone I know about you and your facility! This is exactly why I do! Being from New England I’m so proud of how you represent us. Thank you for this video and for saying why you act in videos the way you do! I can’t begin to say how happy it made me!!
Yikes
But love what you guy's are doing over there and Kevin, love how passionate you are about your animals and teaching others
Kevin loves to teach, we just need to keep growing this platform so he can be heard by more ears
Sad that they had their venom glands removed, but now they’re making a difference by creating empathy and understanding of their species:)
No doubt. Fortunately, Big Papa is under the best care for a snake that no longer has its gland. You can tell that Papa is loved and taken care of very well.
You all do a brilliant job with your snakes and at helping people accept that all animals should be respected. Hi from Australia .
I love hearing that we have viewers from the AU!

I think NERD's videos have so much depth, so many layers. And every single layer so well assembled together. I won't lie, at the very first video I watched I also thought it was overdone (Why all these stuff just to say what is there to be said?). But as time went by and I keept watching the videos I started to realize how great they were. Now it is just my favorite format of videos. Crazy, isn't it? In my perspective it has someting to do with how good it shows Kevin, Rob, Jeremy and others just as people. I mean, it isn't full of characters and performances. The contrast between this frankness and striking edition (with crazy shots and so on) makes it really amazing. Any great super hero movie has a great editing and production, but the characters aren't real. In NERD they are, and there is also the great editing around it to make it pop. I love the perspective you bring Donny. Well, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy it. Thank you all so much. S2
Very kind!!!!!! K
I love that you guys have made the best out of a bad situation and use the snakes that have wrongfully had a natural function taken away from them to educate people on the species as well as giving them the best life possible.
I knew a person who was doing the surgeries. But he was able to perform the procedure without removing the glands somehow. This was back in “89”. The person I am referring to is no longer alive, but supposedly at the time, he was the only person person the “devenomation “ in this manner. I was a teenager at the time snd remember handling some of the vipers that he “devenomized “... Blacktail, Banded rock, and Tiger rattlers. Also handled a Palestinian viper and northern copperhead. Looking back now, I sure was trusting that these surgeries were performed correctly. Lol. At my age now, I would never risk the bite. He performed these surgeries for about 2 years, had a huge list of people that wanted the surgery done on certain animals, but he died young and relatively early into his tenure of “devenomizing”.
Robs parts are so awesome and well done. Kevin and Rob hype!!
The "Empathetic relationship" thing is SO important but most people lack of nowadays.... Thanks for thinking like that.
It’s a must have in this world
Too many people don't even have empathy for their fellow humans these days, let alone other living creatures :(
