I didn't know Queen Mary offered Jane a lifeline by avoiding the death penalty via converting to Catholocism. Amazing how strong minded she was to stick to her faith even in death, and just a teenager.
She Just got sucked into something that I really don't think she wanted any part in but since she as the chosen one by Edward she couldn't say no. Sadly, I think Mary I had become a bitter woman by this time, she was considered an old maid by now, and pretty much took it out on Lady Jane because she was in the time that was rightfully hers.
@@Tat2dGothic I was going to say what if lady Jane grey was never killed by Mary and she became queen of England in 1603 if she was alive what would have happened in your opinion
The story of Jane is so sad she and her husband were just children caught up in a storm of intrigue and suspicion God rest their souls’ - she was so well educated and pious
Thank you for your video. I know the portrait at the start is presumed to be Lady Jane Grey but what I don't understand about it and others like it is why they look so strange? That one seems more like a caricature as do many of Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth I and etc. (The drawing you showed of her - if it is her - looks more like a human being. )
I believe Beauchamp only deteriorated into Beecham (in England) relatively recently. So I suppose 'yes' she pronounced it wrong, and 'no' not really. 😉
@Empress Mermaid Imagine if she was never killed she would have been queen in 1603 if she was still alive she would have been a good ruler and made England a peaceful country
@@sapphire8005 yeah but don’t forget Mary she never wanted the crown to begin with I understand that you were not happy with her but at the end of the day she was used as a pawn I am sure in 1603 if she was never killed she would be a good queen I think she would have ended all the wars and her grand kids would probably marry into Spanish royalty to stop the war don’t you think

Why death to her? I cannot and shall never understand why she'd been condemned to die and in such a horrible way! She was little more than a child herself! Where was the crime in it?
Mary Tudor couldn't tolerate The Protestant threat. Elizabeth ( Mary's half sister) was also Protestant but she played the game and showed Catholic acceptance towards Mary. Elizabeth played her cards very well (she born during the year of The Snake) but Lady Jane Grey could not place a lie over her heart and put on a Catholic face. She would have been a lovely Queen.
What I think is truly fucked up is that Mary knew from experience that woman especially anyone with royal blood was a pawn to be used as a game piece she knew this she seen what her dad did to not only her mother but to any of the women his gaze fell on to she knew all of this she knew Jane was a pawn used by powerful men but Mary put her to death that makes me not think to highly of her she had her grandmother In her when it came to her religion
I think it was the Seymours who pushed Edward to name Lady Jane as his heiress. Furthermore, Elizabeth was not as Protestant as Edward would have liked (think how Anglicanism still has lots of Catholic rituals).
@@OffWithOurHead I think you handled that very gracefully and way better than I would have!!! Two people that never should have been executed
Jane's father is responsible, and all for power and prestige

Yep but Mary wouldn't do it when she was àsked so she asked for something she herself wouldn't give she wouldn't do it but expected Jane to
It seems to me it wasnt really Jane's fault
You think??
It wasn't she was a pawn and Mary knew it.
Great video. You told the story really well and kept me interested throughout.

Mary was not an old maid. She was married. Elizabeth was an old maid.
Seventeen years old!!!
Such a bright and rising star snuffed out before her prime.
Well done!

Such a sad story. I have a feeling that, given a chance, she would not have been as meek and mild as she seemed.

I'm fascinated with my ancestors, The Tudors, and horrified at their brutality.
It sounds like Jane was made to do a lot of things she didn't want to do with her life, which sadly wasn't very long.
