  • Margaret is one of the lest spoken about tudors, yet historians know a great deal about her. And that is tribute to her letters. Margaret had extensive correspondence with her family members back in England. Margaret Tudor, the eldest daughter of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. She was only thirteen at the time of her marriage to King James IV of Scotland, but she had been trained for her new role and was determined to prove her worth.
Join us as we learn about her life and the loss and misfortune she suffered.

I can’t believe that a 13/14 year old little girl could have gone through all this with such strength and courage. I know and understand that she was brought up to do all this, but nevertheless it is astounding that she was so grown up she could handle it all.

Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry the 7th did everything she could think of to delay her grandaughter's departure to Scotland. She was horrified that Mary would go there at the age of 14 to marry a much much older man. I think she wanted to avoid her granddaughter going through the same trauma she went through, marrying a 25 year old man at 12 and giving birth at 13. She almost died.
It was seen as "common decency" not to consumate a marriage before your bride is at least 14 (still horrible by today's standards), but Tudor was impatient to have an heir for Leicester of the red rose.

Margaret Beaufort married at age 11 before she had even gone through puberty. She became pregnant at age 12 and her labor at age 13 almost killed her and the baby. She was widowed young and remarried but never became pregnant again.

You could say the way we do things nowdays is weird & also backwards. We are the only animal on the planet that is discouraged from having sex/procreating as soon as we are sexually mature. If you wait until you're older & more financially stable your fertility is drastically decreased if not completely gone. By nature, our anatomy- hormones etc we should be getting married/having kids around that time. Of course my personal belief has always been if you're going to do it at any possible child bearing years stay on birthcontrol if it fails for any reason head to the abortion clinic, let all these dummies keep making their lives miserable popping out kids they cant take care of like they're a labrador retriever

A large part of Margaret's subsequent resentment of England, after the death of her husband; was that Katherine of Aragon, left as regent while Henry fought abroad, commanded the body of James IV be taken to England, and sent his bloody clothes to Henry in triumph. James' body was not returned to Scotland, and remains in London to this day.

Thank you for this very interesting account of the life of Princess Margaret Tudor. She is one of history's forgotten characters, even though (and some of the other viewers have mentioned) her union with King James IV of Scotland provided the basis for the union of the crowns and kingdoms of England and Scotland in the early 17th and 18th centuries.
Maybe Elizabeth I's staunch desire to remain single and therefore in command of her own and her country's affairs, was in part a reaction to having seen what happened to her aunt in Scotland at the hand of nobles, once Margaret decided to wed again after James IV's death.

very good informative video on Queen Margaret Tudor, who has not had the recognition she deserves, very few books on her which is surprising considering her very important position between the Stewart/Stuarts and the Tudors and was from this union that Scotland and England's crowns were United in 1603 under her great grandson King James VI of Scotland came about. Queen Margaret's life story is one of great interest and intrigue pitted against powerful male factions in the Scottish court , who clearly resented a woman having authority in Scotland particularly as Regent as equally did Queen Marie de Guise after her when ruling as regent for her daughter, Mary Queen of Scots whilst in France. Queen Margaret's life is in many ways mirrors that of her beautiful granddaughter, Queen Mary I (MQOS) of Scotland, three marriages used and abused by men for their own political benefits, Queen Mary as a regnant Queen fared much worse, both women had uphill struggles because one was foreign born, the other foreign reared ,both Catholic and females of authority which did not go down well amongst the Scottish nobility, who betrayed both Queens for their own political and personal gains. Despite all Queen Margaret Tudor did indeed survive, unlike her granddaughter Queen Mary I, who was betrayed and illegally deposed from her throne , illegally detained and murdered in England by Elizabeth Tudor , the illegitimate and illegal Queen of England. The fact that Queen Margaret did survive is testament to her determination and resilience of character and also the fact she was the sister to Henry VIII and the fact she did not wield supreme authority in Scotland, unlike Poor Queen Mary who did but was betrayed and abused by her treacherous nobility aided and abetted by Elizabeth Tudor and the English privy council. I keep hoping that Alison Weir will do a biography on Queen Margaret, who is a far more worthy recipient of one than some she has written about, eg the Boleyn Harlots Mary and Anne. Well narrated and done and it has given Queen Margaret some due recognition and respect she merits. How awful her tomb was desecrated during the reformation by the rabble inflamed by that vile arch heretic John Knox who was anything but a man of God rabble rouser, and woman hater and traitor to both his Queen and country.

The author had to paraphrase a lot but if you read up on Margaret, she is infinitely more interesting than all 6 of her sister in laws and Mary Queen of Scots. There was substantially more palace intrigue, backstabbing, throne grabbing, exile then return three times, shot cannons at one husband, had her kids kidnapped then stole them back, had literal and figurative wars with her tyrant brother ....most of that happened before she was 25 to 30 😂

During some construction work a few decades ago 2 children's bodies were found under some steps, yes. They were not from the correct time period. There is no record of who they were or why their bodies were put there.

I've read many novels of this general period and it was quite fashionable to have the kings "bastard" child. Who knows if they weren't laying down with everyone, on the same day of being with the King just so they could say it was the king's child. It could be a reason the DNA didn't match? Just a theory. Poor kids, born into such a cruel system. Ordered away from home and into forced marriages, and at such young ages.

Perhaps if you recite the content in a. Concrete block building like a school building as it has a natural reverb would give a more grandiose feel as you are speaking of royalty

I really really want to like and follow your channel but I won’t because the narrative is so hard to hear. It sounds as if you’re recording this in your kitchen with a microphone found in your local Op Shop.

Sounds fine to me. I’m glad of the effort to give this history, so any glitches are small fry.

While it is spelled ‘Holy-rood’ it is pronounced ‘Holly-rood’. I am Scottish, born on the west coast, grew up in Inverclyde, university in Aberdeen, lived in Edinburgh - where Holyrood is to this day - and I can assure you, your pronunciation is WRONG. Given your accent, I am assuming you’re English. You should know better.
