  • Almost all Classic Minis use the same rear sub frame, and even the few remaining 'hydrolastic' types will accept this coil spring conversion with minor changes. The long wheelbase cars like this van, pickups, and estates use all the same suspension components, so this kit (and the sway bar in the previous video) fits almost all Minis.
    Many do not like the steel coil springs as the rubber cones do provide a unique driving experience in the automotive world! For those folks, rest assured, the kit can be assembled using the rubber springs with these so called "budget Hi-los" to achieve almost the same ride height adjustability... not quite as low as the coil springs allow.
    There are a few issues with these springs getting knocked out of place in certain conditions when the car is set very low. They can unload and dislodge when the car is jacked up, even when using the short rear shocks. I make mention of that in this video and have a few solutions in the works, so stay tuned! Dos anyone still say that?

    Your the last person I thought would be adding cool spring to a mini,such a bad idea

      Huh? If you think they're cool, what's the problem? I don't mind at all if you want to keep mud-bags or whatever on your Mini!

    Awsome vid! Wanted to know if it is safe to drive when you lower the springs like you have it. What’s the likelihood the components dislodging when you hit a speed bump ? Or will it only come loose when you jack the car up ? I have the exact same hilo and springs as you with KYB gas adjust shocks, and my car sits way to high as the minimum setting to where the springs won’t fallout when jacked up

      Sorry the late reply... Yes it's safe to drive as long as you know that tire contact can happen when you go up uneven driveways and such when the car is set up to be low. I made some small wooden spacers that I use to block the rear trailing arms against the subframe for jacking the car without allowing the wheels to droop. I'll try to post it soon, but I'm busy with other things at the moment, and my Cooper S is sort of trapped in a corner!

      Jemal @ Cooper Road Mini Awsome thank you so much for the insight! My wheels do lift up on my driveway, so I guess I shouldn’t lower it to much... was thinking of putting a bump stop from the hydrolastic suspension to stop the arm from drooping to much aswell, doing what I can

      I just asked the same question on the other part of this install. Having the exact same issue as you. Just installed spring conversion and kyb gas adjust. Did yours break in and come down some? I have a pretty big gap about 4-5 finger gap. Hoping. To get about a 2 finger gap, but worried about adjust the Hilo’s so much that it will dislodge

      knowone12 I fixed the problem by adding a die spring 1/2” between where the Hilo and rod connect.. it’s a hack I thought of and it acts like a helper spring, which holds everything in place when the wheels to suspend in the air

      @@heronguyen8000 There are a few solutions and it depends on if it's the front or rear... you don't say. In front, use those oversize rebound buffers to limit droop... that will let you set the front on the bump stops if you like! And keep in mind that I modified my front fenders and installed a custom sub frame to have mine so low in front.
      The rear is trickier. You can install the still available hydrolastic rebound stops which help but still let the coil springs come loose when jacked if the car is very low. I've suggested making limit straps you can hang from the upper shock mounts , similar idea to the big springs used on the hydro cars which have sort of the same issue when jacked up.
      I'm about to get my Cooper S out of it's corner, so I'll try to make a video showing the little blocks of wood I made to wedge against the rear sub frame that keep the trailing arms from drooping.

    Would those springs fit on a 1972 Leyland Mini Moke? My rubber cones are worn.

      @JemalCRM  4 года назад

      Yup, like I said in the first sentence above, they fit almost all Minis. I have many MOKE videos, in fact a playlist! You can also install the Hi-lo adjustable height cones with rubber springs as I did on our 67 MOKE. I have a good set of rubber cones you have CHEAP!
