With the removal of those cone washers try sticking a small thin bladed screwdriver into their expansion slot & just twist them out. No need to bash on the axle flange or studs & loosen & stretch in the threads so they eventually snap off under load. I wipe a very thin film of grease on them on re-install so they dont rust or sieze in.
Portals are awesome to lift and give the car height and articulation. However if and if you bust something remote. Your stuffed as no one remote has supplies for such a thing so repairs could be 10 fold. Not being biased just saying thats all. Love the rig by the way.
Hey mate, no real fuel usage difference as the change in gear ratios compensation for the larger tyres and extra drag. They perform like a stock setup on corrugations, just with more clearance.
Can you explain how water gets in when they have breathers? And hard facing being worn off is usually heat isn't it? Is it normal to have such portal wear after suuch a short time?
Hey mate, I had changed the oil in the gearboxes prior to cape and didn't push the breather hose back in properly, it got water in it and then it was over the capacity to spat some oil out the breathers with the excess water resulting in bugger all oil in there. Heat from driving a few thou kms after with minimal oil wore the hard facing.
Hey great vid about portals, really want to know the pros and cons on the portals as I’m thinking of getting em. Compressor wise, servicing, how tough are they?
Thanks mate, we love the portals, not noisy at all, arb single comp comes with the kit mounted in the engine bay for the front hubs, I service the rears every 5k kms and fronts every 10k kms. Straight cut gears this wide are pretty strong, I just a decent amount of power on 37s and have not had any issues with damage caused from stress.
I'm pretty sure I forgot to push the breather line in properly when I checked them before we left on the trip, it came out way too easy when I pulled them apart after the trip.
Hey mate, mine came with my portals but here is a link to something similar. alliedautoonline.com.au/products/3-prong-1-2-drive-rear-hub-nut-tool-socket-for-toyota-landcruiser
@@LifeoftheCromies Thanks for that looks so much better than using a screwdriver 🪛I might be showing my age we used to remove the rear axle and set the bearing load with a fishing 🎣type spring scale

think that would give me 10-20mm at most still going to drag my fat diff because of all the guy's running 35+ tyres . When i win the lotto portals and 40's @@mattluszczak8095

Great idea mate!
That was cool! Had no idea about portals until now. Every rig should have portals!
😂😂 you are not wrong!!
the quality of the parts on these Marks portal units is very impressive, dinkum Aussie engineering.
Very impressed with all their products! These portals are only some of the Marks 4wd products in this vehicle.

Yeah but portals are great for around town.
Definitely a risk mate! We love them and do take spares when we are remote.
Great video on the Red Bull mate. Helps us understand what is what when it comes to portals and how it works. Legend!
No problem 👍
Great info. How do you find them on the road and off-road such as corrugations. Much difference in fuel use

Cool video! Makes me miss my portal 79!
2.8 is on development, never late in a 2.8!
How fast you can drive on the highway with those? nice setup!
@@CMDR-Data as fast as the legal limit permits! Never had an issue at the higher end of speeds. Thank you!
Hows the difference between fuel consuption before n after the portal conversation ?
Hi mate, these were installed before it was registered. Fuel consumption is about 14.7L per hundred on 37s

Hi looks great, what kind of portal brand is your portals on your car?
Thanks! Marks 4x4 supplied and installed these portals.

How much is the kit to convert to portal axles ?
Best to contact Marks Portal Axels for a quote 👌
Do these run/need a breather like the diff etc?
Yeah mate all 4 have separate breathers and t together and run with the diff breathers to the engine bay.
How did the water get in!

do they fit on 80 series?
These are currently not available for an 80 series.
I need portals on my defender to get my fat rear diff out of the road . Do they change the gearing at all
Hi mate, they reduce the gearing by 16%. Very handy when running larger tyres!
You can shave the bottom of the diff
