Thank you for this very helpful tutorial...just what I needed. One friendly suggestion: decrease the the music, or better yet cut it completely...it is not really necessary and makes it harder to hear what you're saying.

I concur with the comments on voice and music levels, but I also wanted to say how valuable I consider it that you left in those "oops" moments. Seeing how to correct common errors is very important. For example, the bit where everything wasn't joined before you centered. The first time that happened to me, it took FOREVER to figure out how to make it work. So, thanks!
This had a good flow to it, I agree with the comments about the music, maybe do more explanation of shortcuts used for beginners too, nice job!
When I saw the RUclips video cover, I thought it was a photo. Quite stunning that this is a 3D image. I used to do a lot of work with POV-Ray, which used a radiosity renderer. The definition files had to be hand coded in a C type language. But, boy, does a GUI make things a lot easier. I would really like it, if you could make a tutorial purely on how to fine tune the lighting. I was trying to follow the part of the video where you were linking light dialogs. It looked like a database diagram. Super cool, but I got a bit lost. Anyway, well done. Amazing tutorial!

Why do colors disappear when I import svg?
U don`t have clear mesh. tris or quad is needed to texture it correctly in the future
after years of working with 3d/vectors i found that creating svg in 3d is easier than any software for vectors. (corel/AI) So , often I I'm just making whole thing in 3d, then i export it as svg. And Then I'm adding gradients, etc.
You can do lower quality for free (non-vector) via the free built-in windows 10 app 3D Paint and 3D Builder.

Ok 1st of all change illustrator color mode to RGB then export it. I was using Illustrator cs6. Try to use same. may be it will work now.

Info for blender 2.8 users! :
1) convert curves to mesh alt C is not working, so select all the object (object mode) then go Object > Convert to : > mesh from curve

[idk why alt c is now "toggle cyclic"]
2) delete doubles are renamed "Merge by distance", remember, go edit mode first!
go to : mesh > clean up > merge by distance.

Im still getting black shadow on blender when I import a svg file
Make change color in Illustrator. If there is any gradient color or mask in illustrator, it will not work in blender.

Yes got this problem.
If we use downloaded illustrator template, it might be problem.
1. Blender not support masking object of illustrator.
2. Gradient not supported.
Solving:
So, we have edit illustrator file.
1. Select separate color design of illustrator and give it solid color. Then save it to svg & then import to blender.

Before you import svg change render engine to cycles render and then import your svg.
I changed my render engine to cycles before importing and still didn't get any colors :(

and copy the export settings this guy uses in Ai (about 2min in the video). It worked for me.

Thanks for missing the crucial step of converting your image into a vector.
there are tons of tuts on that. its simple. drop your pixel image into illustrator select it. on the top middle of illustrator there is a button press it and it makes your image a vector image. you can also tweak some stuff.
