I can't disagree with what is being said here - Ron sold out, Don stayed true to himself and to his audience. It's in moments like those when you see what someone is really made of.

I’m a third generation Chinese-Canadian and stand by Cherry’s “controversial” remark. “You people who come here” applies to everyone who comes to Canada, be it Africa, Europe or Asia, white or coloured. It’s only people who are overly-sensitive who think Cherry meant races other than white. I agree with Cherry that all immigrants (and Canada is a nation of immigrants) wear poppies to support the brave men who died for our freedom.

Don, you were the reason people watched. Don't ever forget.

Ron doesn’t deserve Dons friendship. Coward move, a lot of Canadians won’t forget it either.

When our world cannot "tolerate" Don Cherry, then you know there is something seriously wrong with our world.

  • @embracinglogic1744

Don Cherry was 88 at this time and looks great! I hope he remains in good health.

Ron MacLean should be ashamed of himself. Thank you for speaking up Don Cherry.

Thanks Don for being real and not selling out

  • @chaccaron4321

Ron threw him under the bus so fast and it’s pathetic seeing as how Cherry made the guy. Ron’s a pure “yes man” and no one will care when he leaves. We love you Cherry.

Ron will be forgotten in history, but Don won't.

I miss Don. He was the only one with balls enough to say what he thought.

I don't even watch Saturday night anymore. Don is the heart of Canadian hockey entertainment. Without him is like without the heart of hockey night in Canada.

Total respect for Grapes. Cannot believe what Maclean did. Who does that to a 40 year friend? Spineless coward. Love you Don!

For decades, starting long before Afghanistan, Cherry made MANY trips overseas to visit with troops deployed. He didn't just hang in the big bases where all the officers lived with their officers' messes and where all the comforts were. He went out to the nasty little FOBs. He didn't just stop long enough to shake hands: he ate with us, hung around with us, played some ball hockey, asked troops about their families and ambitions - and talked hockey of course. He never treated any soldier any differently, no matter what their ethnic background. He DID single out immigrants - he was effusive to discover any soldier he was meeting with was an immigrant who had enlisted. They got more than their share of his time and attention.
