Never forget him giving Cherry's poppy speech a thumbs up at the time then the next day saying he didn't agree with it and it just got past him. Didn't buy that then and not buying it now. Oh yeah and buy a poppy this year and support those who served!

Still can't believe don was fired for telling people like myself who come here to buy a poppy. Ron is a backstabbing loser for throwing don under the bus the next day with his apology and not sticking up for don. 40 years at hnic and it ended so ugly. Don didn't deserve that.

He didn’t just ‘tell’ people who come here to wear a poppy.
He singled them out as if they were the only ones.

@@September2004 yes he said you people that come here. I came here. Did I not say that.
You should understand that he rips on Canadians every year to wear a poppy. He even said after he should have said everyone should buy a poppy.
You clearly don't understand context and my comment above. I came and liked what he said. Everyone I talk to who also came here weren't offended. Only white pussified people being offended on behalf of others created all the outrage.

Listen, I was never a fan of Cherry’s schtick for the most part. But let me tell you something, when he inserted himself as coach of the Mississauga Ice Dogs in their first season, I was there when they played in Guelph. He had hundreds of people shoving stuff in his face to sign. He stopped and signed every last one.
That man, for all his faults, respected the game the best he could, respected the fans, and respected the country. That day I went from being a Don Cherry hater to being a Don Cherry fan, and it had nothing to do with his segments on HNIC. The people who cancelled him or supported it have never contributed nearly as much as he did to Canada.
And yes, people should buy a poppy.
