I have owned one for 14 years and it was 4 years old when i got it. I´m VERY pleased with the quality, design, and driving-feeling. Just can´t let it go. :) It´s been standing outside for 18 years now in a scandinavian climate and it still looks great! No visible rust ... yet.
1) Buy the best one you can find for USD 3000. 2) If you find one, get the 2.2L petrol engine with 160 bhp. 3) Congratulations, you have the most beautiful car on the road, with the same top speed as a modern hot hatch, and you paid 1/4 of the price of a new economy car.
@@ThunderChunky101 I have a V6 3.0 24V Busso in an Alfa 166. Better than the Peugeot engine, still a gas guzzler. When something major breaks in this one I'll just get a 2.2L 159.
I had one back in the day, same wheels but lovely dark grey in colour paint. The best sound system I ever had inside the stock car. There is like 8 JBL speakers there.

I owned one of these up until recently for around 10 years. plus points: wonderful to look at & very comfortable for long trips, very well equipped in SE version mind you & with a fabulous Hi Fi. mechanically well built sadly let down by sky high parts prices! but then thats how French car makers make their money, Cars that are cheap to buy but expensive to keep! Minus points, parts prices as mentioned, woeful horrid gear change, powerful in V6 form as long as you have shares in Esso but lame performance in 2.0 petrol version. Shoddy electrics!!! & in a car laden with gizmos this is/was a problem! I miss mine though but only for its looks & 'pose' factor really. I don't miss the electrical 'tantrums' it would have now & then & wondering what would stop working next!

`cos it's quick, super-refined, has bundles of torque and returns 64mpg, at a steady 56mph - I know, `cos i used to achieve that fuel consumption regularly, driving in the Scottish Highlands. The V6 Petrol engine was terribly thirsty, and you would be lucky to hit the mid-thirties mpg, on a good day.
@@shill6449 Each to their own, I guess but that clatter of the diesel really detracts from the appeal of that kind of car. It's like you've taken the cheap option. As does the smell of it if you get it on your hands or shoes. As for fuel consumption, anything over 25mpg is good for me, so I don't really care if something can do more than 40mpg or whatever.
+ChelseaFCMario A proper 159 for a grand? Where? Its mine! :D -but the 406 coupe still is a nice looking car. Even today. No contest for a 159/Brera though...
No it doesn't! I bought the 406, 2.2HDI and and we had three Citroen Xantias in the company carpark, with the same engine. One of our Engineers thought his Xantia was the petrol version? - so refined the diesel was!
