This is literally the ONLY EV I have any sort of interest in... Hyundai really did understand what people who enjoy driving need from something electric. Still way to expensive but it's certainly a stepping stone for every other car company to look at what Hyundai have done and learn from it
I've been driving 35 years and had 76 cars in that time. Nothing exotic unfortunately but many a hot hatch & some nippy cars. I've also had a dozen motorbikes and a few wee speed boats. We've just bought our first leccy car for the wife - a Citroën e-c4. All 134bhp! All I can say is that the future is not looking too bad when we all go electric. Our wee Citroën, when put into the' sport' mode is just way better than I ever anticipated. This HI5N must be absolutely epic. And for all you folk that's took the plunge on the 5N - great on you and lead the way 👍
That Ioniq 5N is what i would imagine how the MG Maestro Turbo would evolve into, with killer speed and that retro styling that looks like its from the 80's.
The Jaguar, Murchilago, Porsche, Audi line up is TO DIE FOR. I don't care how good an EV is, it will never come close to the halcyon days of motoring that inspired and created the likes of those 4 cars !
I wish people would stop saying you can send all the torque to the rear or front. You can't. You can just disable the front or rear motor severly limiting the power output, that is not the same thing.
er, given the car has enough torque to break traction, then yes, sending torque 100% to either end is pretty much exactly the same as for an ICE, in both cases clearly the absolute magnitude of tractive effort is halved at the limiting mU
@@maxtorque2277 No, he's right. Rory even sort of mentions it it himself at 10:01. He says the rear motor makes 383 hp and the front makes 226. They're separate motors making separate power, there's no connection between the front motor and the rear motor. So when you put the car to RWD only that means it's deactivating the front motor and you have 383 hp.
All over great production, fit for mainstream TV. Only disappointing elemt from my (middle aged) side was the pre planned jump start and cheating but quickly addressed in absolute lap time . Bravo!
I had toy model cars like that but I am not mad about cars, but I always marvelled at how well made my toy model cars where made my dad use to buy them for me from the petrol station
Nice race. I have a request though. No one has ran the 2025 Porsche Taycans against anything. They are all faster than the previous models. Let get those videos going! I want to see the 4S, Turbo S and GT specifically! Is the GT faster than the Plaid? Let’s find out!!
It’s about the same and rolling the plaid will win due to that 2speed gear box . Edmunds has data on that car as well as the plaid and lucid air saphire to compare !
@@IReahpZz none weisach package though.. which adds carbon fiber and alot of other things to lower it's weight. Which I think is fair due to the HP difference between the lucid and porsche. Shoulda used the top spec taycan. Also then it would truly be 250k vs 250k. But the taycan will best the plaid to the quarter mile. I don't trust DragTimes too have a fair race though when he post one. He's already removed weight from his plaid track pack making it not stock. Carwow will have the most fair race. We will see what happens.
Brilliant film, well done Rory and AutoTrader, grande production, beautiful cinematics, a real throwback to big budget Top Gear films of the past, covering all aspects of the car and how it feels compared to other key touchpoints in the motoring heliosphere. Personally this style is much preferred to such as Carwow which for me is too formulaic and drag race centric, some of us are more interested in how a car goes around corners! As for the car, love the Ioniq 5N but the infrastructure is still very much a limiting factor, I’ll stick to my i30N for now, but a fantastic effort by Hyundai to tempt us enthusiasts from our ICE powered steeds, and surely a gamechanger in the electric performance car landscape.
Excellent video. As the "why are there not more cars like this?" Because the vast majority of car buyers don't want one. Just like they didn't want a BMW M3. But for those that do ....
I drove the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 Performance back to back with Hyundai Ioniq 5N with my wife and daughter. We all love speed. All of us agreed that the Hyundai Ionic 5N is a much more planted on the road, it's a better drivers car, more composed at speed, with lest neck snapping speed from standstill compared to Tesla, but it covers speed at ease. What broke the deal for us and we decided to take the Tesla Model Y Performance instead is the ridiculously uncomfortable rear seats. They're like a wooden bench. My family felt their bottoms and backs aching just after 20 min test drive. I was heartbroken, but hats off to Hyundai for making amazing drivers car, wish it wouldn't have an Achilles heel, but it does, and a big one if you want to have anyone sit in the back for any amount of time. Please Hyundai, stop making rock hard seats in the rear, make them as comfortable as the front ones and you have a machine that does everything for a driver and for family.
Rory just an awesome video, really shows the care and importance of driving for new cars and the cars history :) And for me Hyundai N division is a joy factory, their products are just amazing I30N, I20N, Ioniq 5N,,.... LOVE THEIR WORK :)
The 5N certainly looks impressive and the 600+ BHP does it's best to 'hustle' the 2.5 Tonne beastie. However, even clever software can't overcome the the laws of Physics (yet..). It's £65K price tag puts it out of reach for many enthusiastic motorists. Having looked at one at my local Dealer, I don't want one. It's just too big for me. I'm all for smaller 'nippy' cars and will be sticking with my i20N
@@ThePedroDB it's 2,2 tonne. And physics is more then about weight. Centre of gravity = lower than an i30N. Most of that mass is close to the middle to instead of outside the front or rear axle. Weight distribution = perfect 50/50. I was a weight snob, but this car changed my mind, it's great to drive. I understand it's a lot of money, but it's the interior size of an X5M or a Cayenne and performs better then any of those, cannot compare to an i20N...
@@jamesengland7461 None of my 'points', as you put it, were disproved. I stated my opinion and that still stands. You're welcome to yours. The £65K price puts it well out of the reach of a lot of motorists. As a result they're not exactly flying off the forecourt at my local Hyundai Dealer. If it's anything like the majority of EVs, the depreciation may be pretty horrific too. If you think it's such a 'bargain', then by all means go buy one
@@onehorsepower Thanks for the weight correction. If you wanted to be really pedantic, it's 2225 kg. Whatever. At almost twice the weight of my i20N, it's still an overly heavy, large car. Hence, why it's not for me. I never mentioned weight distribution - just sheer mass - and, last I heard, the Laws of Physics still stand. I didn't compare the 5N to my i20N, I simply said I'll be be keeping mine. To be clear, the 5N is the only EV (to date) I have an interest in but it's price puts it out of my reach. It's also vastly more than I need for a daily driver. When improved Battery tech and higher production volumes allow Hyundai to produce a smaller, lighter, cheaper model, - it'll be on my radar for sure. Alpine A290 wasn't of interest...
That was an awesome video. So great to see fun and capable electric cars. Would love to see a 5N vs Porsche Macan shoot out. Come on VW where is your electric Golf GTI.
I own 2 911s, an E92 M3, and an Elise S1. The 5N appeals a lot, but the issue remains that it will not get me to work and home again. Also, none of the cars I own have 4 or 5 doors. I don’t need that.
It's a beautiful car that has put it's stamp on car history. An instant classic like nothing else on the road. But while I think it deserves it's place with the Quattro and Murcielago and GT3, I think the E type is in another league. And I'm an EV head. The others are all sports. The E is sport and taste and glamour and refinement. No EV has matched that yet and it'll take a Leviathan effort to try.
Great video! Damn, that Ioniq 5N is appealing. I drove an Ioniq 5 AWD but found the steering too loose for my liking, and the handling not great. I now drive a Highland Model 3 LR AWD, and I love it (but hate Elon), but if I could afford the 5N, I’d get it.
I believe that the issue with EVs is still their disposability. They are like your latest cellphone, the best until the new one is out. That is not the case with classic cars, they are more appealing because of what they accomplished in their time and the real connection with the driver without “fakery” like a precision machine carefully crafted. Perhaps EVs will eventually get there once the technology is fully matured and the Ionic in pushing those boundaries, however we’ve yet more to go. Great piece from Rory as usual.
Torque vectoring does make a difference. Add that to RWD-biased AWD high powered motors and we got a recipe for fast and nice driving EVs. When battery packs get lighter, they will easily beat many high performance ICEVs.
@@purwantiallan5089 it's a natural evolution: ABS, TC, ESC, brake based torque vectoring and then torque vectoring. Torque vectoring is a technology that improves a vehicle's handling and stability by selectively distributing power between the two wheels on an axle. It works by applying more power to the outside wheel during a turn, which helps to rotate the vehicle and improve its cornering ability. Here are some of the benefits of torque vectoring: * Improved handling: Torque vectoring can help to reduce understeer and oversteer, making the vehicle more predictable and easier to control. * Increased stability: By applying power to the outside wheel, torque vectoring can help to stabilize the vehicle and prevent it from sliding or spinning. * Enhanced traction: Torque vectoring can help to improve traction on slippery surfaces, such as snow or ice. * Improved fuel efficiency: Torque vectoring can help to reduce fuel consumption by optimizing the power delivery to the wheels. * Enhanced driving experience: Torque vectoring can make the driving experience more engaging and enjoyable. Overall, torque vectoring is a valuable technology that can significantly improve a vehicle's performance and safety. It is becoming increasingly common in high-end vehicles, and it is likely to become even more widespread in the future.

best EV ever made in my book. Kudos to Porsche & Rimac but Hyundai gave us something no one has seen before which take the fun to another level plus it's so damn good to look at
OK, so let's agree that 99% of the buyers will never track this car. I have a deposit for one. I must say it's almost as fast as my Rivian. That kind of power never gets old. I personally did a 11.5 second 1/4 mile at 110 mph. Only to find that the top speed limiter kicked in 200 yards from the finish. I could/should have done the 1/4 mile in 11.2 seconds at about 120 mph. 1/8th Mile time was 7.75 seconds
Nice to see Dan's been working on his racing driver killer stare! Should have been enough to win that race alone (ok, perhaps not quite enough to make up a 300bhp shortfall... 🙂 )

As a 5N owner, the 718 GTS is one stunning car I bet it drives like a dream.
Rory, you keep raising the bar. thanks for inspiring me evrytime you present
you are quickly starting to be my favorite car channel
A huge well done to everyone involved in making this film. I was transported back to Sunday nights at 8pm and the Top Gear of old that we all so dearly miss. More like this please boy and girls 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Maybe next time you can remember to use the (NGB) button. Just saying.
@@zonda1968 I think they may have made the point by *not* using it, if you follow.
This felt like an old school Top Gear episode. Well done Rory and AT team. Love it.
This is literally the ONLY EV I have any sort of interest in... Hyundai really did understand what people who enjoy driving need from something electric. Still way to expensive but it's certainly a stepping stone for every other car company to look at what Hyundai have done and learn from it
Fantastic presentation. What an epic video. This car deserved it.
I have not finished watching this video but i know this video will be great so 👍
Great video =3 Yes its obvious that Hyundai N devision's goal was to make EV driving fun, and they've achieved it =3
I've been driving 35 years and had 76 cars in that time.
This is exactly what I needed to see today. Great job!
One of the best car reviews I've seen in a very long time 💯🔥🔥🔥
Great video! Easily Top Gear quality. Congrats to all involved. 👏👏
What a car!
Grin factor: 10/10!!
What a great day of filming!
Fantastic video guys , out of interest how did the battery fair making the vid ,did it last long ?
I said it since I saw this review of the first 5N it would be the only electric car I would buy.
And if you got one you never go back, believe me.
Luved mine until it took 11 weeks for a new main battery replacement. All is good now and enjoying every ride.
Awesome video, well done, well done. Had me at the edge of my seat.
Excellent video.
As the "why are there not more cars like this?" Because the vast majority of car buyers don't want one. Just like they didn't want a BMW M3. But for those that do ....
The 5N is a masterpiece
Auto trader slowly becoming the modern top gear we need
One of the very best auto trader videos ever. 😊. Well done to all and to Hyundai.
Incredible video, thanks Rory!
I would take this over the Cybertruck in a single heartbeat.
Superb old school video, can't wait to see where we end up in the next few years
Rory just an awesome video, really shows the care and importance of driving for new cars and the cars history :)
And for me Hyundai N division is a joy factory, their products are just amazing I30N, I20N, Ioniq 5N,,.... LOVE THEIR WORK :)
Doesn’t matter which car won in this race, I can feel how awesome fun it is for 3 drivers 👍🏼
Excellent video.
Driving a 650 hp car on track against honda civic with 315 hp. Seems a bit unfair
2.2 tonnes for the 5N. Power to weight ratio is probably fairly close.
Then again, the Honda is way lighter
315? You silly Americans. Only your Type R's are down on power. The FL5 for the rest of the world has 329HP.
Love that 5N!!!!
That first race was ridiculous...can talk in "airplane lengths". Insane how good this Ioniq is...
This video, among a hundred others, disproves every one of your points, ESPECIALLY the price, which is a huge bargain.
If the N is to come out as a smaller car, it would have to be something like the Ioniq 2N or 3N with a lighter battery.
How I enjoyed this review!
That 718❤
And kudos to this amazing episode. Whata feel..!
Great vid
Great episode!
Auto Trader you are the best!
An absolute Masterpiece
That was an awesome video. So great to see fun and capable electric cars. Would love to see a 5N vs Porsche Macan shoot out. Come on VW where is your electric Golf GTI.
I own 2 911s, an E92 M3, and an Elise S1. The 5N appeals a lot, but the issue remains that it will not get me to work and home again. Also, none of the cars I own have 4 or 5 doors. I don’t need that.
Is the 5N only available with sunroof on right hand drive version? Doesn't seem like an option here in Norway
The world has changed when you’re benchmarking performance with a Korean EV 🤣🤣🤣
The steering of the Ioniq 5 has nothing in common with the steering of 5N
My only gripe with the 5N is the weight of it. Model 3P is over 800lbs lighter… The Cayman is over 1500lbs lighter. Let that sink in
I believe that the issue with EVs is still their disposability.
The other two are professional drivers too, if I understand correctly. Whatta CAR!
That us epic, and the 5n is the only electric car I WANT. PERIOD.
It has been really really funny the video 👏🏻👏🏻
In Spain the recharge network is weak, we must wait a little for electric cars.
Torque vectoring does make a difference. Add that to RWD-biased AWD high powered motors and we got a recipe for fast and nice driving EVs. When battery packs get lighter, they will easily beat many high performance ICEVs.
Why torque vectoring tho?
@@purwantiallan5089 it's a natural evolution: ABS, TC, ESC, brake based torque vectoring and then torque vectoring.
Torque vectoring is a technology that improves a vehicle's handling and stability by selectively distributing power between the two wheels on an axle. It works by applying more power to the outside wheel during a turn, which helps to rotate the vehicle and improve its cornering ability.
Here are some of the benefits of torque vectoring:
* Improved handling: Torque vectoring can help to reduce understeer and oversteer, making the vehicle more predictable and easier to control.
Another excellent video 👍
The issue I have, I can only speak for the Irish market... is that I would buy one today for 85-90k euros (which is a lot for this car..) a couple of months later it will be worth 40k
Top Gear Rory
This episode is better than Top Gear AND Fifth Gear combined ❤👍👍👍
For all that is good -- give us more Dunsfold, give us more stuff like this, we needs it precious!
Terrific analysis, Rory.
Great video. Loved it.
best EV ever made in my book.
Kudos to Porsche & Rimac but Hyundai gave us something no one has seen before which take the fun to another level plus it's so damn good to look at
This track looks familiar🤔🤔
Why didn't you use N pedal and NGB?
Thanks for review
Fantastic production best autotrader video to date😊 can help but think why don't car companies use the same chassis and offer different body styles, if it were a 2door coupe I would be more interested.
This is more like the first M5 equivalent in the EV world... More kinds will, hopefully, follow....
I’m really not a fan of electric cars. Though, this one intrigues me. I actually would like one as I have watched many reviews and it seems to be well liked.
How many miles per kWh driving it like that?
The European market is a strange one where high-maintenance, unreliable cars have repeatedly been praised over better performing, more reliable, and more robust-built cars... the ioniq 5N still has an uphill battle
Superb video
U should have used the boost button.
Masterclass video 👏👏👏
