Action Man - a staple of my childhood. We had a huge back garden and lots of places to dig trenches, build bridges and fly the helicopters. Jeeps (AM didn’t own a Land Rover) and trailers, tanks and scout cars. Back when we didn’t have the Internet, we had … imagination. Somewhere in my Mum’s house must be all that stuff.
I’ve already got most of the Lesney Matchbox collection and Corgi cars…

You should parlay your excellent toy restoration skills into a business. People would send you toys to restore for a fee. You're brilliant sir!

Maybe one day. But I like to try and inspire people to have a go themselves. It's not hard, and it's so much more fun if you fix your own toys I think.

I'm so glad you posted this. All I ever want to cast are small items and the price if mold material always seemed so daunting but this is a much more affordable way to do that. Great job!

Thanks for showing us how to do this. Fred (action man) will be very happy with his new badge 🙂

That's fantastic, very useful. Thanks for posting. I always love your action man videos. I'm not trying to be critical but, just saying, British army berets are usually meant to be worn with the badge over the left eye

Always enjoy your AM videos, full of great restoration ideas! Ive found a cheaper solution is to use thick foil to take the impression, then a few drops of superglue onto the reverse side makes it solid. Keep 'em coming Toy Polloi.

Thank you for this, I did not know about blue stuff until this video. This is very timely as I want to do some repairs on some damaged star wars figures and this will come in very useful. I am really enjoying your channel, keep up the good work. Tim

I would paint the voids black then paint the rest silver. Giving the illusion of space where the hole are.

A great way to reproduce those badges, and obviously you can do the same with the green beret or peaked cap badges if needs be!

Beautiful work as always may I suggest doing a black undercoat on badge so it will blend with beret appear to have the die cut holes

I have a missing shield indentation on my rigid AM beret. Guess that was once a sticker badge? Great work as always!

I've used the Blue Stuff for about a year or two now, with mixed results. Instead of Milli-Put, I have been using apoxy sculpt, but I have found that it is far too brittle to do a lot with. I first tried to mold the blaster pistols of Star Wars figures, but found that to be a hassle. The Blue Stuff seems to work best the way you use it, when you only need to mold one side of an object. Doing the two-sided mold is much more tricky, even if you put in the proper indentations and line-ups in the mold. Mixed results at best on my end. I also found that sometimes the mold shrinks (as what occurred in your video with the badge). It's not a perfect mold solution, but it is fairly inexpensive and a quick way to go. Still well worth the investment. It's best for little things though, and for things that were only for display purposes. Is the Milli-Put stronger than Apoxy-sculpt, Dave? I seem to recall that it was a bit stronger, but I haven't used it since the late 1990s, so my memories of it are somewhat foggy.

Blue stuff - pure liquid Smurf essences

  • @stevewthebactatank9640

mix up a small part of greenstuff and a small part of milliput superfine (white one) then mix the 2 together. The superfine milliput captures detail better than the regular stuff and by combining some greenstuff into the mix you give it some elasticity which makes small/thin parts more durable and stops shrinkage
Greenstuff can be added to all types of milliput to give it strength, ideal for when modelling sharp edges as milliput on its own can chip, crack etc. its a 50/50 mix, just mix both separate first as per their instructions then combine them.

Love these videos! Don't play the "sort of" drinking game with these, tho (e.g. every time TP says 'sort of', you take a drink). Even if you sip a weak cider, you'll be well drunk by minute two.

Hi Dave, great work as always, however milliput is an exspensive product. May i suggest using two part epoxy resin, you can add a food pigment or a drop of acrylic paint in the mix to colour the cast item, you can get it for a pound at pound shops. It also dries like toy plastic. Ive used it make weapons for my regiment of custom rebel fleet troopers. I think i have mentioned this on your facebook page a while ago, keep up the good work.

Only the tank regiment have the badge in the middle, My Beret was well shaped to my head and an honer to salute the regimental badge. P.S, MOD rules.lol

I always thought that it was odd that the badge Palitoy chose, was that of the Tank Regiment. I'm in no way knocking it, but it always seemed a bit odd to me - something like the Grenadiers, or 17/21st Lancers, or The Royal Anglians would have made a bit more sense. A 'Quartermaster's Stores' set with several different coloured berets, and a set of cap badges for all the great regiments would have been nice - I always wanted mine to have had the insignia for The Royal Engineers, who my late father was with when drafted in 1946.

There is a tank commander outfit. So it was probably just cheap to re-use what they had already made.

Excellent - I can restore some of my Action Man hats that way.
I wonder - did you consider taking a very fine paintbrush and painting the negative space of the badge black, so it doesn't look like a solid piece of silver?
The badge should sit directly over the left eyebrow, btw - never in the centre of the forehead.

hello dave. you should use green stuff for making little reproduction like that. green stuff is flexible and not brittle (like milliput).milliput is better on biggest reproductions.
