  • Tom Stone is one of the harder to find vintage Action Man figures from Palitoy. He suffers with perished rubber so if you do find him he will most likely be in pieces. Today I rebuild a Tom Stone doll, replace the hands and badge and get him back together.

    I knew this figure was going into the right hands. It was really fun watching you repair a toy that I had at one time on my possession. He looks amazing, enjoy!

    With the elastic if you take a lighter and melt the tips it will be easier and it keeps it from fraying

    I love watching him restring Action Men. It is the best part of the restoration process for me. Also, I swear it looks like one of those Tom Stone figures is taller then the other. I hope he keeps going with this one. It already looks great, and I am sure he can make it look even better.

    Always such an irony that the bendy rubber hands get hard and brittle with age, severe toy arthritis heh. Same here, fingers snapped right off while cleaning them. Very nice completed restoration. ;)

    The key to getting 4 strands of elastic through that neck piece is to have each piece slightly longer than the last... so you are only feeding one through and then adding another single strand to the previous strand, it wastes a couple of inches of elastic but it is so much easier!

    Dave a Tip from a Doll maker Fabric glue, in the end, will be a better choice most superglues will eventually discolor or flake but a Good Fabric glue like Tacky or even a Washable glue from a Drapers or fabric dept of a craft store won't discolor and can handle a quick brush up if the fabric needs a light clean I did a few beading repairs with super glue and eventually had to replace the outfit due to color fading on the glue spots. and As Always Great job on Tom!!

    Awesome job Dave. Just a tip: whenever I'm using superglue (or paint, etc) I use surgical rubber gloves. Always handy to have a box of them handy (I buy mine from Boots).

    I'd recommend using a lighter on the frayed parts of the elastic. This will melt the end and make it neater, and easier to pole through gaps.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  10 месяцев назад

      It depends on what the thread is made of. As this is elastic it doesn't really melt.

    Great fix, Dave. I always wanted one of these figures as a kid - but you never seemed to see them anywhere.
    You might find a set of dental picks/probes useful in removing that rubber. I'd be afraid of bending the tips of my tweezers. Those picks are good for any job that needs a bit of precision in a tight space.

      It does work well. You just have to be careful with the flocking that it does loosen and lift up.

    Tom Stone was modelled on actor John Kani who played Sgt Jessie Link in The Wild Geese . This information came from him personally.

    Another great fix! Military berets typically have a short and long side. Short on the soldiers left side, with the longer side over the soldiers right ear. You could probably persuade it into shape?

    Hey Dave! Great to see another restoration video. Always amazed by the awesome ideas that you create in your head when it comes to restoring vintage toys such as that action figure. I've got to ask you my friend, Can you restore the hands of the Steve Austin SMDM action figure the same way that you did on this video or there's more difficulty in the process? My Steve action figure has his hands all crewed up & I purchased a new set of arms to restore it, but I just wanted to know if it could be possible to change only the hands without having to change the whole arms. Cheers my friend.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  Год назад

      Thanks. I have not tried fixing SMDM hands as I always seem to have spare arms. I don't think they would be that easy to replace as the hands are made of a hard plastic and the fixing to the arm is not designed to be removed. Cheers

    Brickle cheap plastic. Pallitoy Action man were built to last and take beating. In saying that I would still like to get hold of this figure hopefully boxed. I'm only just starting collecting. Thing is it's like an addiction. Once you bought 1 or 2 figures you want to go out the next day to pickup other ones

    Another really enjoyable restoration, thanks. Did you come across any deterioration of the head plastic? Like the blue mould that other vintage Action Man head-sculpts suffer from? Just wondered if you know what causes the blue marks? Can anything be done to prevent them getting worse?Thanks.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  Год назад +1

      Thanks. No issues with this head apart from a few areas of flock missing. The blue on other heads is most likely the plastic degrading. Unless it's pen marks.

    Hi dave great video as always that Tom Stone figure looked awesome. I have a mego question tho, one of my pota figures has a broken/missing thumb, I've got a replacement hand and wanted to know if the hands can be "pulled" out at the wrist like an action man or do I have to do something else?

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  Год назад +2

      Thanks. On the mego figures, push the pin out that holds the hand on, put the new hand on and push the pin back in. It's a really simple process on those figures.
