Always clean your face gently in the morning and before bed. Use sunscreen each day to shield your skin from the sun. Maintain your skin hydrated by using a good moisturizer, like liettleextra rice berry face moisturizer, which is great for keeping your skin smooth and nourished without feeling oily. Drink plenty of water to maintain your skin glowing from the inside. Additionally, try to limit touching your face too much to reduce breakouts and irritation.
The Biossance Probiotic Gel Moisturizer is a game changer. I was a newly recovering alcoholic with DRY, DRY, DRY skin that was red and scale covered. With good nutrition, lots of water, and this moisturizer, 2 yrs later my skin biome is near flawless. At Christmas everyone was commenting on my complexion and how little foundation I was wearing (Bareminerals original powder). If your skin won't absorb cream moisturizers try this gel. Their Rose Vitamin C Facial Oil is off the hook too! Great brand!

Hello doctors. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for recommending skinfix barrier! My husband has struggled with severely dry, cracked and splitting hands and fingers over the years because of his security job outdoors in the elements. He cannot always wear gloves so it's been challenging and painful for him. I've tried various products with little success. So when I watched your video recently, I decided to try skinfix barrier and bought the smallest size to see if it would work. He tried it and within 24 hours noticed a big difference and a lot of relief! This is a miracle for us so thank you so much!
What i love the most is that you both explain chemical names and stop people from being scared of them. Science worked hard to have safe beneficial products at the cheap, so we should benefit from them
I used CeraVe moisturizer before and my skin was so itchy, now i'm using La Roche Posay lipikar AP+m cleanser and moisturizer and it's so keeping my skin smooth and so hydrated, this brand is the best for sensitive skin.
Huh weird. Cerave is my current go-to facial moisturizer. I have extremely sensitive and eczema prone skin. Crazy how everyone's skin reacts differently to products.
Um, so before this video even ended I purchased multiple items from my local chemist/pharmacy/drug store (whatever you guys call it in the US). As a 36yr old Aussie, I am working on reducing sun-induced fine lines and sun spots via skincare. I've found Paula's choice, La Roche Posay and CeraVe to be the most affordable and effective. Other than that, my facialist uses Dr Spiller and that has worked wonders for my overall skin health. People think I'm still in my 20s and I haven't even had any work done (yet!). Thanks for sharing your knowledge in these videos guys, too many professionals gate keep when not everyone can afford regular laser treatments.
Totally into LaRoche Posay for body moisturizer. It stays good for 48 hours, which is astounding to me. I have extremely dry skin everywhere, I live in Minnesota, I’m outside a lot. So glad I found this and that you guys like it, too. Thanks to you 2, I also am madly in love with Biossance products for my extremely dry skin.
I am surprised La Roche body 48 hours was mentioned. I was told to use it years ago when I had eczema rashes years ago in the Canadian dry cold winter. It is great!!!
I'm 58. For years, I've used Origins Plantscription Serum and Perfect World Moisturiing cream in the morning, along with .025 Tretinoin at night, and I have no wrinkles on my face. My skin is soft and supple. Since I was a teen, my diet has consisted of fruits and vegetables, chicken and salmon, nuts/seeds, eggs, a little, and some starches like couscous and. No red meat since then. I exercise and use suncreen though I should have been more protective of my legs while swimming for the last 10 years (at least I use a long-sleeved rashie for my upper body). I think I'll try a body retinol for my lower legs.
I was so happy hearing you mention the lipikar balm! That's my absolute favorite and for $15 a bottle that lasts ~5 months, what an amazing moisturizer!
i like this for my body....But the LaRoche Posay Toleraine Double Repair Moisturizer is abs Amazing for my face...esp when paired with the Purifying Foaming Cleanser to wash face in shower....but these are targeted for Oily skin so maybe it wont work for you but at least give that stack a try for your face !!
Skinfix and La Roche are always the best for my sensitive, combination-dry, eczema prone skin. Lipikar milk lotion just melts into my skin after the shower and leaves me feeling "normal" all day.
Use roc products often...really solid brand. I layer multiple products with sunscreen: moisturizer, primer, foundation , setting spray ....adds up without getting greasy.
You guys rock. Yall have saved me so much money on skincare. I was buying ridiculously expensive items and it was killing me. I changed all my skincare to what you guys recommended. Thanks!!!
Great recommendations! Loved and tried many of these, until I developed adult acne… I have dry skin very prone to breakouts, so far the only moisturizer that doesn’t break me out is Paula’s Choice Clear moisturizer.
I love that you mentioned Kiehl's! I just recently discovered them when looking for a new oil free moisturizer. I started using the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Moisturizer and I love it!
First aid beauty is some of the best skin products ever. It’s the first company that I’ve been able to use most of their products. Thanks for mentioning them. I have super sensitive skin and they’re fantastic.
I'm an MD myself (cardiologist) and I learn SO MUCH from you, it's incredible!! You revolutionized my skincare routine (and my friends', cause I started telling all of them about you...) and my skin has never been better. Not a single spot after I've integrated salicylic acid, retinol and niacinamide ... THANK YOU!!!!
@@nealiecruz2532 yes I'd recommend that. In most countries in Europe, where I'm from, this is part of a regular check-up starting at age 30/40 depending on the country... get an EKG, some blood tests (blood fats and other parameters), and possibly some additional diagnostics depending on the results. However this is usually done by a general physician (family medicine) and if there's some abnormalities you're getting transferred to a cardiologist.
I triple moisturize because I have dry skin. I use Biossance under eye Squalane, then CeraVe’s hyaluronic acid serum, then their PM moisturizer, then top it with the CeraVe healing ointment x2/day. My skin complexion has improved sssssooooo much.
@@Doctorly Hello. I have red marks on my skin. I was wandering if at night I have to use also salicic products or just a retinol or cerave pm moosturizer. BECAUSE I ALSO FIND A CETAPHIL SENSITIVE SKIN PRONE TO REDNESS NIGHT CREAM AND DAILY CREAM WITH SPF 30 PRONE TO REDNESS? WHAT TO DO? HELP.
@@Doctorly there was a recent discovery at missouri that say oral vitamin br derivative NR can cause cancer, does that mean that we should avoid Niacinamide also or its just the NR derivative we should avoid?
I waited so long to try The PM lotion by CeraVe. Every moisturizer either broke me out, felt greesy or too mattifying. Fin 👏 al 👏 ly! I can moisturize twice a day without waking up to more spots. My skin actually looks happy.
Absolutely on the La Roche Possay items...Lipikar AP+ (now called AP+M) I have serious issues with dryness and stasis dermatitis due to poor circulation in my legs and it is the only thing that keeps my legs moisturized and the condition at bay (tried everything and this is amazing stuff). I also use their Toleriane Double Repair on my face and it is a great light weight face moisturizer (they now do it in Matte as well). Can't say enough about La Roche Possay...
I wasn't aware that they're products with multiple active ingredients. I'm so happy because this means I can invest in effective products that work whilst simplifying my routine and keeping within budget. Amazing!
I would love it if you would dedicate a short episode to oil-free moisturizers. Squalane always breaks me out as does any moisturizer with oil in it, if I leave it on all day. I am sure there are moisturizers with oil out there that won’t break me out, but I’d rather not take my chances. It would be nice to know about oil-free options you would recommend. Not all oil-free moisturizers are good or good for acne-prone skin. It would be helpful to know how to select a good one. Lately, elta md barrier restore serum is my daily. LRP double repair has been my regular moisturizer for years, but it feels a bit to heavy and stings a bit as I adjust to tazorac.
Hey Dr. Maxfield and Dr. Shah! I love your videos!! And I would really love to see some in depth videos of the more intensive treatments derms preform, like fractional CO2, peelings, lasers and some more on rosacea, melasma and acne treatments!! All the skincare tips are 100% a lot of help for a lot of people, but I now that informing people that there are really helpful treatments available that they may not know about would really be appreciated! Lots of love from the Netherlands!🇳🇱
SO much information that my head is spinning!!! Great info!! I’ve been using vani cream and I’m 65. I believe I will switch to the ROC and by the way I love some of the Kiehls products. I’ve used their lip balm for 20 years!
@@alxfia I just saw your reply. I have also used Vit C and retinol serums beginning in my mid 40s. It’s made a massive difference in my skins aging . Thanks so much.
I am using the H Creme from La Roche Posay for many many years now on my combination skin, the Creme is not only moisturising but also does not break me out while providing a good basis for Foundation
Side note: when considering cost the La Roche Posay Balm is ounce for ounce the best bargain. I use it for every thing. Like Dr Maxwell I have it everywhere! Love it and it’s affordable! When you’re talking about body and face and a constant hand moisturizer hands down the BEST!!! Thanks!! Love the video!!
I am not a doctor, but it kind of gets to me when people diss fragrance in products. I know that some people experience irritation, allergies, and other adverse effects while using products with fragrance in them, but for others, fragrance is actually a plus. Personally, I don’t experience irritation or any negative effects to fragrance, and it makes the aesthetic experience of skincare more enjoyable for me. In my opinion, with the limited information that I have, I believe that if you don’t like fragrance, don’t use it- but don’t discourage other people from using it. However, I admit, I could be missing something. Other than irritation and allergies, are there any other disadvantages to using fragranced products?
Wow we get a video on Christmas Eve!?! Talk about an early Christmas present!!! 🙌🏻 Merry Christmas, Dr.Shah and Dr.Maxfield!!! 🎅☃️🌲 P.S. Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Please help! I’m a 63 yo woman that was born and lived most of her life in the PNW. Kept out of the sun a majority of the time (when it was out) and lived life outdoors in a high humidity environment. I moved to the Mojave Desert for family reasons four years ago and now see my facial skin aging very quickly. The dry environment feels awful to me. I don’t spend very much on skin care products but when I do, it’s usually at the drug store. You two speak a lot about skin care, yet I can’t keep up. Could you possibly recommend a simple treatment plan for someone older like me that is fast yet effective? Any recommendations would be sincerely helpful. Thanks.
The Ultra Facial line is one of the best of the Kiehls brand. I really like the Ultra Facial lotion/toner, it really penetrates my skin and gives a lot of hydration and the smell is delicate.
I have been obsessed with La Roche-Posay products. I have oily to combination skin and I have been trying their selections for oily skin.. all is incredible.. they are very easy to find on a comparative prices.. so I do recommend them as well Great video
I bought the lipikar balm because you recommended it and I LOVE IT. I was using boring old cetaphil and the LRP one just feels soo nice to put on, I think it’s a new ride or die.
Finally! A very informative show that’s not sugar coated. Very helpful and so easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Thank you also for being very nice to look at …. you guys are so handsome. Talk about beauty and brain.
I love the Skin Fix moisturizer. Just started using it after my Biosance Squalane Omega cream ran out. I like that the Skin Fix lets my face breath a little more since I have rosacea and sometimes felt like the Biosance didn’t let my skin breath and would keep heat in. I’ve also been loving the Moisture Surge 72 hr by Clinique and the 100 hr gel one for the summer time day time moisturizer. Love your product recommends as always!
Love you guys and LOVE your videos. I just have a question, the ROC Retinol product says daily, I thought you were only supposed to use Retinol at night and then definitely use a sunscreen during the day. Although I've watched your Retinol Videos, I am still so confused about them :(. So I guess there's still an opportunity for further clarification on how to use them... Happy New Year to your both and can't wait to watch all of your videos in 2022.. All the best from Toronto, Canada.
great moisturizer that’s only 12 bucks is the Elf holy hydration(ppl have said it’s a dupe for the drunk elephant peptide cream which is super expensive so i haven’t tried). Super moisturizing, peptides and hyaluronic acid, and it’s so cosmetically elegant texture wise in a way that’s hard to find at the drug store. Especially for the price. And it doesn’t have that dimethicone silliconey feeling that a lot of the drug store moisturizers can have that I haaaate and can be hard to find a non heavy texture moisturizer at the drug store that doesn’t have silicones…
I'm glad you posted this! I was looking for a moisturizer that wasn't $40 a jar, had the niacinamides and the squalane I wanted, and preferably had the hyaluronic acid to really hydrate and lock in the moisture. I found the e.l.f. holy hydration and was wondering if they'd reviewed it in this video. They didn't, but I think I'm going to try it anyway. Now if only it had Vitamin C so I don't have to buy 30 products. 😄And, if anyone else is reading this and wonders about animal testing (e.l.f. never does) or parabens or whatever: "Cruelty-free, vegan and 100% free from Phthalates, Parabens, Nonylphenol, Ethoxylates, Triclosan, Triclocarban, and Hydroquinone"
I use Kiehl's sunscreen 50spf after Ultra moisturizer. I've never been chasing the suntan after finding I just burn or turn beige. Almost 65 now and glad I didn't do too much sun.
Hi there doctors! Love your videos. I bought some of the recommendations you guys never fail me. I would like suggest you make a video for skincare safe for pregnant moms. Thank you
Love Skinfix Triple Lipid cream. Use Skinceuticals hylauronic under and it’s a perfect combo for dry skin. Also, Skinfix glycolic-lactic acid cream is amazing for luminosity.
I stared using Avene xera calm moisturizer and I’m absolutely in love with it. It hydrates so beautifully and leaves such a wonderful and nice layer over the skin.
⭐️VIDEO REQUEST⭐️ Moisturizers for Folliculitis AND dry skin, as the Folliculitis moisturizers usually aren’t enough for those with dry skin, especially if we’re also using things like sulfur masks. Thanks! ❤️💛💙
I'm really surprised you didn't mention Olay Regenerist Retinol24 + Peptide SPF Moisturizer, because it is a sunscreen moisturizer with Vitamin A (Retinol), Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) and peptides. Olay Brightening Eye Cream for Dark Circles is another moisturizer, and it contains Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Vitamin B5 (Panthenol), Vitamin C (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate), Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) and peptides.
Aw cute Drs talking about moisturising. Nivea Q10 and the vitamin c cream absolutely fantastic I’ve been using it forever my skins great no wrinkles at 63. No Botox no filler yuck. Cheapish & cheerful. It’s skin guys moisturiser doesn’t get deep it gives a protective film.
Happy holidays, Dr. Shah and Dr. Maxfield! Could you all do a video on Asian skincare at some time? I don't trust anyone else to give the science behind some products :)
My favorite skincare line is a korean brand Sulwhasoo - its considered a luxury brand in Korea. I use their essential firming cream - not sure how much it firms but it makes my skin look glowing and youthful.
I love the CeraVe PM lotion for all day use. I have dry skin and it is amazing for an inexpensive skin care product. I also want to add a retinol product and think I will give the Neutrogena or ROC a try. Thank you.
I love the Roc retinol eye cream! I don’t like to take tretinoin too close to my eyes but the Roc retinol eye cream is a gentle enough formula to use around the eye and get the benefits of a retinol
Moisturising Plus by Frezyderm. Holy grail. I don't know why sensitive skin brands are so underhyped in the US, like La Roche Posay, Avene, Vichy, Frezyderm. Those are almost always safe bets if you want a good basic moisturiser that won't break you out. They're the only brands that I ever get recommended from my dermatologist.
Ok, so I am just a consumer but I am absolutely passionate about skincare. I'm a very fair skinned caucasian female with normal to dry skin and some fine lines around my eyes. Now that I'm in my early 40s I am battling between gel moisturizers vs. creams. I have read from several sources that a gel formula is superior to a traditional cream when it comes to absorption. If all other active ingredients and most base ingredients in a formula are the exact same will the gel formula absorb better than the cream formula? Or is it just a matter of personal preference? I find most gel formulas to feel a bit sticky-but if they deliver superior results I will deal with it.
Just found you guys, great informative videos! I’ve been using good products on & off but not as faithfully as I should. After seeing so many OTC products that are more affordable, I will certainly be faithful to my skin care and will be able to afford more treatments at my Derm’s office. Doing both makes a world of difference! Thanks again, keep the information coming!
That Cetaphil product has 0.5% salicylic acid, not 2%. Which is actually one of the things I love about it. I can use it even on eyelids and neck without it ever drying or irritating.
Which is suuuper important to be able to do for people with a compromised skin barrier.. psoriasis, eczema.. sebhorric dermatitis.. with psoriasis your skin-cell turn-over renews in 4-5 days which is a process that should take 3 weeks. Without daily exfoliation Im always flaky and its so gross/suffocating/itchy & uncomfortable 😔 even eyelids and brows lol
Merry Christmas Docs. Thank you for all of info you’ve shared over the last year. I feel more educated on a topic that is as near and dear to me as my skin 😉
I love the Elta md. I have been using it for for at least a year now and it is one of my favorites. I’m glad to hear you guys talk about it. It is a wonderful substitute for foundation in the summer time.. I love all your recommendations.. 🤗
Good evening doctors. You spoke about dry and oily skin for the moisturizers. Could you recommended a moisturizer for sensitive combination skin. Thank you and happy holidays.
I really appreciate this video. I was wondering if there is any reason to avoid caster oil? I went through my moisturizers after this and realized it was in a few of my sheet masks
Thank you for this video. Some of the recommended moisturizers in this video are $50.00, and I appreciate the recommendations for the less expensive ones as well.
I love your guys' videos and appreciate the information! As someone who has always had trouble with their skin (combination/sensitive/acne) , grew up in a dry area (southern California) and now lives in the super humid Caribbean (Dominican Republic), I would love to hear your thoughts on how one might alter their skincare routine and/or what they look for in their skincare products based on their climate (extremely humid vs extremely dry). Thanks again for your helpful recommendations!

You revolutionized my skincare routine (and my friends', cause I started telling all of them about you...) and my skin has never been better. Not a single spot after I've integrated salicylic acid, retinol and niacinamide ... THANK YOU!!!!
Do you feel it necessary to visit a cardiologist when you turn 50 , even if not having issues, but more to get a baseline on heart health?
I love it - Shah
I carry a small spray bottle of water and spritz whatever looks dry...makes my skin all dewy and very cheap.
I wasn't aware that they're products with multiple active ingredients. I'm so happy because this means I can invest in effective products that work whilst simplifying my routine and keeping within budget. Amazing!
I’m really having such a hard time trying to figure out what skin care routine I need. You guys are the best I’ve learned so much
I would love it if you would dedicate a short episode to oil-free moisturizers.
Also microneedling
SO much information that my head is spinning!!! Great info!! I’ve been using vani cream and I’m 65. I believe I will switch to the ROC and by the way I love some of the Kiehls products. I’ve used their lip balm for 20 years!
You do not look like 65 in your profile pic😭I saw it and assumed you were in ur 40’s before reading your comment I’m so shocked
ROC rocks, no pun intended. It's an extremely luxurious cream!
@@alxfia I just saw your reply. I have also used Vit C and retinol serums beginning in my mid 40s. It’s made a massive difference in my skins aging . Thanks so much.
You two are absolutely fabulous in sharing your knowledge based on science and your own experiences in using the products. Love you guys!!! Thank you!
I😋
I am using the H Creme from La Roche Posay for many many years now on my combination skin, the Creme is not only moisturising but also does not break me out while providing a good basis for Foundation
P.S. Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Biossance is the best in my opinion only thing that don’t have me dry or red in the face after using and it’s plant based and not full of chemicals.
I have oily to combination skin and I have been trying their selections for oily skin.. all is incredible..
they are very easy to find on a comparative prices.. so I do recommend them as well
Great video
Would you review cruelty free skin care products?
I bought the lipikar balm because you recommended it and I LOVE IT. I was using boring old cetaphil and the LRP one just feels soo nice to put on, I think it’s a new ride or die.
Getting out of cetaphil too 😅
@@Goodliving22is cleanser good?
Thanks for categorizing them! (I love Supergoop Play SPF 50 as a moisturizing sunscreen. 👍)
This is my favorite channel for dermatology. I like the straight -to-the-point format 😊
great moisturizer that’s only 12 bucks is the Elf holy hydration(ppl have said it’s a dupe for the drunk elephant peptide cream which is super expensive so i haven’t tried).
Awesome, thank you!!
@@jessakent2049 Hydroquinone is vitamins A, isn't that supposed to be good for your skin?
Samee ❤️
I love Avene products too.
The best moisturizer that I have ever used for my body is Kiehl’s. It is expensive but works for me better than any that I have ever used.

Moisturizers for Folliculitis AND dry skin, as the Folliculitis moisturizers usually aren’t enough for those with dry skin, especially if we’re also using things like sulfur masks. Thanks! ❤️💛💙
I have very dry skin and my most-used moisturizers are Obagi Hydrate Luxe for the winter and Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide.
I’m on my 3rd bottle of the vanicream daily facial moisturizer and I love it. It’s good for my oily/dehydrated skin.
does it suit for acne prone skiN?
@@desiddaisy9362 yes, I’ve never gotten acne from it and I have acne prone skin.
Lipikar is life-changing! Fixed my itchy winter skin in 2 weeks
Can you do a segment on Best “EYE CREAMS “
Aren’t eye creams just very expensive face cream?
Naturiums Plant based Ceramide moisturizer is incredible. It is great for mature, dry skin, dry skin in general.
Thoughts on Gel creams? Ex: Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream. It feels so quenching but I’d like to hear thoughts on it
Yikes, the LRP moisturisers you're recommending has Niacinamide which quite a few of us are allergic to. Are you guys not aware of this?
My fave cream is the cold cream from Bioderma. Not expensive at all, not too many ingredients, and does the job so well.
Hope you guys work at the same practice after your residencies. These videos are truly gems!
I like their brightening water but so expensive to get regularly . 😫 wish I could try all their products in the Snowise line .
I love the CeraVe PM lotion for all day use. I have dry skin and it is amazing for an inexpensive skin care product. I also want to add a retinol product and think I will give the Neutrogena or ROC a try. Thank you.
I just discovered the CeraVe PM lotion and use it day and night. Works perfect with all my other products!
Thank you for your channel. I was wondering if you could review cruelty-free products.
Never too much dewy!
Yes. I dont wear face moisterizer because it sewms to breakout on me. Hopefully one of these will help. Otherwise plain water for me
love Avene ❤
I don't know why, but the "my ankles are always dry" cracked me up! Lol
Great video.
Sounded a bit like Victorian era porn!
Great and very useful info. Plz could you also do a video on face masks. Do they make any difference? What masks are the best?
Just found you guys, great informative videos! I’ve been using good products on & off but not as faithfully as I should. After seeing so many OTC products that are more affordable, I will certainly be faithful to my skin care and will be able to afford more treatments at my Derm’s office. Doing both makes a world of difference!
Thanks again, keep the information coming!
I bought the Lipkar Balm and it is the best moisturizer for winter dry skin....just love it!
I wish you would do this same format for facial cleansers. 😊
Hallelujah, no longer do we have to rely on RUclipsrs who do not know what they are talking about - keep it up doc
Which Cetaphil has .5%?
If i am already using salycylic face wash, should i use cetaphil moisturizer which has salycylic acid in it?
Merry Christmas Docs. Thank you for all of info you’ve shared over the last year. I feel more educated on a topic that is as near and dear to me as my skin 😉
I use Microshield moisturising cream with vitamin E, it's the only one that has worked for me after 30 years of trying many brands.
Can you make a video about collagen supplements.. share your thoughts on it please.
What about dry acne prone skin?
I love the Elta md. I have been using it for for at least a year now and it is one of my favorites. I’m glad to hear you guys talk about it. It is a wonderful substitute for foundation in the summer time.. I love all your recommendations.. 🤗
My grandfathers company was Roc!! He was the dermatologist!
Good evening doctors. You spoke about dry and oily skin for the moisturizers. Could you recommended a moisturizer for sensitive combination skin. Thank you and happy holidays.
La Roche Posay Tolériane
I really appreciate this video. I was wondering if there is any reason to avoid caster oil? I went through my moisturizers after this and realized it was in a few of my sheet masks
Thank you for this video. Some of the recommended moisturizers in this video are $50.00, and I appreciate the recommendations for the less expensive ones as well.
Explore the CereVe products, they are all affordable and gentle.
What about Aveeno? I have been using it for years now I love it......
What would you recommend for highly sensitive combination skin? 💙
How about a video on moisturizers for elderly skin?
I love your guys' videos and appreciate the information! As someone who has always had trouble with their skin (combination/sensitive/acne) , grew up in a dry area (southern California) and now lives in the super humid Caribbean (Dominican Republic), I would love to hear your thoughts on how one might alter their skincare routine and/or what they look for in their skincare products based on their climate (extremely humid vs extremely dry). Thanks again for your helpful recommendations!
