There’s not much cooler in the world of cars than the sleeper.
A car that has the ability to wipe the floor with even the fastest supercars yet looks totally normal and completely understated.
There have been a host of awesome sleepers available over the years but which do we think are the best, here’s the our TOP 5!
Let us know what you think in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe to stay up to date with all our latest content.

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.
We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

Here in South Africa your 'sleepers' are out and out performance cars and recognised as such. The only sleepers are the custom jobs by backyard workshops using old Toyota Corolla rear wheelers and sticking 1000 hp powerplants in them and then slaying your M3's and Gti's in illegal drags over weekends
Great vid!
How about a "Best 5 sleepers under $20k"
That'd be a cool one to add to this
Awesome idea, we'll get onto it
@@ReDriven I drive a 2012 Volvo s60 T6 with a polestar tune that looks extremely plain but is faster then a lot of very quick cars. beat my friends IS350 in a straight line too. you can pick one up under $20k easy.
Falcon eccoboost g6e goes well but no where near the barra turbo, but much better fuel consumption and fast of the mark.
Love this list, great to see the g6e turbo at number one. I'm onto my second one currently getting a truetrac lsd installed. My other car is also a sleeper skoda superb 206 wagon. Its got the golf r engine with 206kw and its awd, hits 100km under 6 seconds it definitely surprises a whole lotta cars.
Before watching this video, I saw the title and thought the G6E Turbo had to definitely be one of them, even better number 1!
Sweet!!
Great video!
Would be funny to see a video called “Looks Fast! Goes slow”
#1 Mazda RX-8
Brilliant idea!!!! We'll get onto this.
Subaru BRZ
Parents bought a G6E Turbo brand new on mechanic’s recommendation for quality motor. After their other car was written off by someone else in a car park last year, mum, (now 82yo) uses the G6E T as her ‘daily driver’. Great vehicle,
The Infiniti Q50 Redsport is well known in the states but seems to have flown under the radar in Australia. VR30DETT engine, which will be in the new Nissan Z, made 400hp from the factory and could easily be tuned for more. Being fairly unknown in Australia and often mistaken for a Mazda 6, makes it a decent sleeper I reckon.
Mate, we completely forgot about the Q50! If we do a part 2, it'll be on there. - AK
Oh just discovered this channel, really cool idea! Maybe u guys could make a used AMG "guide"?
Cheers Lucas. Awesome idea mate. We'll do it as seperate AMG models as they all deserve their own video! - AK
Love the wagons! Top 5 performance wagons? It would be great if you had the list in the details so we could come back and read.
Brilliant idea and it'll be coming soon. - AK
My list is almost the same, you have really good taste, sir.
Mate I wish we could take all the credit but all of our Top 5 lists are put together after surveying and asking loads of mechanics, engineers, technicians and experts.
I nearly bought an FG Mk2 or FGX G6E/XR6.......I still regret that I didn't. Great car.
Great Video. What about the 2015 Volvo S60 T6 AWD (last of the 3.0L turbocharged with intercooler) Polestar tuned rocket?
Looks very ordinary (except for the blue polestar badge)
0-100 in 5.1 seconds, 248kw, 320bhp!
Can get a great deal for around 20-25K
Nice vid ! Probably too heavy but the Volvo XC90 had a 4.4L v8 version.
But a Volvo SUV with a V8 is sooooo cool
That Yamaha V8 in the XC90 and S80 is lovely! Was also used in the Noble M600 super car!
Good video 👑
Where’s the Lexus ISF! Great vids, keep them coming!
Great call mate but it might be coming in "part 2" ;)
toyota blade should have got a mention. 3.5 v6 in a collora.
First of the foresters when they were a similar platform to the wrx.
any ls3 holden wagon
Just what you need in Australia where they have thousands of speed camera's and will book you for going as little as 3 or 4 over haha.
Exactly. Best to at least try to fly under the radar. - AK
I love sleepers.✨😗👌
Sold my 2009 G6e turbo owner last user owned since new as I was moving overseas.
Truly the best and most reliable car I've ever owned. Left it stock standard.
The only criticism I would have is it needs an LSD and traction control was not the best.
*sold last year and owned since new...
* sold last year and owned since new...
Subaru Legacy Spec.B would've a nice addition as well.
It was very high on the potentials list Ruben, awesome thing. - AK
Not giving a full Top 5 - but I consider my 2017 Skoda Octavia RS Wagon as a sleeper. Amazing how many people ask "Oi Mate! What car is that?!"
100% mate and it was very very high on the potentials list. - AK
It wouldn't match the cars listed here but my Lexus LS430 is pretty good for surprising people off the lights because of its appearance. No visible exhausts and a daggy square look. And silent.
Number 1 = 1989 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 E39A....👌
The original estate sleeper RS4 (B5)!!!
It must be noted you stress "sleeper" and not reliability as repair costs on some of these can be eye watering. The Mazda 6 and 3 MPS wouldn't be bad either although giving the Mk 1 3 any sort of willy was a nightmare just to keep it on the road.
I think the Lexus ISF and IS350 deserves a spot on the list. You'd struggle to tell them apart from the boring 250 unless you know your Lexus cars, or Toyotas as you call them 🤔
Misubishi Legnum VR4. Like a Magna on steriods.
I think the best sleepers are the m5 competition, e63 amg s and the Audi rs6
Volvo V60 Polestar. Turbo supercharged.
top 1 sleepers - suzuki swift sport 09
Volkswagen Passat B7 3.6 220kw 0-100km in 5.5 Sec. Cheapest sleeper on the market.
One thatd be good to see is best first cars under $10k
Awesome idea mate, we'll get onto it ASAP
@@ReDriven no probs just found your channel and subscribed as like the content.
Skoda Octavia RS? Golf Gti Engine in a family car.
Territory turbo too
100%!!!! It was on our list but we felt the taxi vibe of the Falcon only just beat it. Territory Turbo must be one of the very first performance SUVs
The very first was the RSQ3
Which one of these cars would be most reliable on this list the Ford
Don't worry, those buttons were tickled ;)
Cheers Kyle! - AK
Mazda 6 mps
Toyota Aristo! 2jz
buying a RS6 that is not a wagon should be punished by law!
Hahahahaha 100% mate. Like a convertible RS4. - AK
corolla sportivo
Back in the day Corolla SX were mad sleepers. Looked slow but no. Not slow.
100%
Another great sleeper for the list: Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO. Can’t go wrong with that car.
That’s not a sleeper, it’s a v8 coupe. Everybody expects it to be fast, then a turbo falcon goes sailing past making next to no noise 👋
@@brokenlegz
Fair point. But it’s a sleeper in the states. Hardly anyone here knows it’s a v8 coupe.
@@blu3mang0s I guess in the states they’re not as common. They’re pretty well known in Australia as a “muscle car”
@@brokenlegz
Yeah. They didn't bring that many over here. They should have brought way more. It's a fantastic car.
You should have added now don't laugh as I had one of these a few years ago a Toyota Aurion sounds boring but 200kw ain't boring 0 100 about mid 7 and when I disposed of it must be no secret being a tidy garaged example sold in a hurry commanding serval thousands over the Camry which is the same car
Robert is was actually on the list of options! If we do a part 2, it'll make it!
The very recently discontinued 3.5L V6 Camry SL is a great example - it did 0-100 in mid 6s. This is surely the fastest stock Camry, ever!
Agreed. Aurion is a hidden gem
It is as fast as a Holden V8 stateman!
Yes but should you buy the Audi? Seems like it might end up being quite the money pit
Where is the Toyota tarago V6 .......
That's a great call Morgan, hopefully in part 2 of this list!
A Golf R wagon? I know of the R36 (that's a Passat though), but not the Golf R wagon.
You don't consider the Golf R Wagon to be a sleeper mate? - AK
@@ReDriven no, it's just that I've never heard of it before now. I think it's a great sleeper, just like the hatchback.
@@damilolaakanni Mate you don't have them where you are located??
@@ReDriven I live in Nigeria. We don't see a lot of performance cars on the roads here.
@@damilolaakanni Ah understandable mate. The Golf R wagon isn't common here but there are a few around. The R36 is awesome but very rare here.
RS7
100% - AK
Yes but that Audi with the V10 chewed up its gearbox.
Yep, we chose to ignore a few reliability issues on this one. - AK
Only the volvo actually looks like a sleeper honestly
None of these cars are really sleepers😂
RS6 a sleeper? LOL
In sedan form, they are 100%. - AK
