I like how the main defense of the movie is "its Mario, what do you expect, something good?" Like yeah, aren't Mario games known as a beacon of quality and polish, I'm sorry I expected the same quality for his movie
Seriously, if they all think Mario = inherently bad, why are they even stanning this movie so hard? Why did they go to the theatre multiple times each to show their love of this franchise they think is the definition of poorly made crap?
YES!!! Holy Shit, finally I saw a comment that said it, because this very point was driving me insane. Now, I’m not a “Mario Guy” - I’m pretty sure the last one I played was the 64 one, seriously - so I cannot attest to the second half of your comment. But even then the fact that so many of the defenders and supposedly passionate fans responded with “look at those film critics, they don’t know shit about Mario, I played every single title in the franchise and it fucking sucks, it’s meant to be dogshit, that’s the whole point” There’s also a worrying overlap with a community that has such disdain for criticism to the point where they straight up believe that movies are not art, and people who talk about movies as if they are art are nothing but “pretentious out of touch intellectuals”. Seriously, it’s a thing. It’s people who agree with that Scorsese phrase, except that they think it’s good - Because of course it grew out of MCU and DCEU obsessed communities. In the near future the only discourse regarding movies will be “how woke this movie is” against “this movie have absolutely no substance and its visually just like this one thing that’s adapting, and it’s for the fans” “Just consume products” wasn’t a bit, it was a fucking prophecy.
The weirdest thing about the whole "It's just a kids movie" is seeing it come from animation fan circles. Despite years of rejecting this notion that art intended for a younger/general audience is above criticism. Then suddenly seeing everyone turn around and say how Mario can't be criticized for being a kids movie is so baffling. Like ok I guess we can't criticize shrek the third or the emoji movie right?
It also implies that children's media doesn't deserve to have any sort of quality. Movies like Shrek and The Lion King are kids movies if you want to be technical about that, and those movies have genuine quality to them. To dismiss them as just "kids' movies" undermines the entire creative process that went into making those films.

The fact that Adam's been gushing over how great a film "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" was lately (aka a kids film) is a great addendum to this review.
Same with Wolfwalkers (2020) that Adum reviewed. It's technically a kid's film but with a lot of great effort put into it that makes it very enjoyable to watch for an adult like me.
The funny thing people didn't expect much of Puss and Boots 2 when the trailer made it seems like they're making a cutsey and memey sequel like Boss Baby but it surprisingly has a similar quality to the old Shrek movies...funny enough I got too much expectation of the Mario movie when I was also reluctant due to the promotion, and they sure succeded greatly with that.
The "there's no such thing as over-animation" thing reminds me of someone i knew in my drama class who spent his entire performance screaming his goddamn lungs out and when the teacher gave him his grade back she told he he was over-acting to which he responded by telling everyone that over-acting "isn't even a thing" and there was nothing wrong with his performance. It's just straight up delusion from people who don't understand what they're talking about but really think they do. Don't think there's much hope for those types

People be like “the games have a barebones plot too” and it’s like yeah. But you could PLAY the games. You don’t need a serious plot because it’s fun. You go to a movie to experience something. Not see a reference.
And we know for a fact they'll give Mario a deep story if it's important. Imagine if they released a Mario RPG like this and people tried to justify it like that. Sticker Star was still leagues better than this and, oh yeah, everyone hated it!
Exactly. Plot is a part of a video game, but it's the entire thing for a film. You can absolutely play video games that have literally zero plot, but you certainly can't do that for a film, because plot is all the film has.
By definition changing the plot of a silly video game, where you run around jumping on turtles is ACTUALLY ruining the source material so that argument makes no sense. Changing the plot and characters of super Mario bros is how you end up with Mario Bros 1984 movie. Thankfully sticking to the silly and crazy plot of the games - being faithful to the source material is what led to the movie making 1 Billion+ dollars and become successful

Speaking of AI, I think the reason so many people don't care if art is AI generated is because there is an avalanche of stuff like this. Things created by humans but completely based off on calculation and data analysis to generate the most amount of profit. A good Mario movie for me would've been closer to Lego movie or Adventure time. Two brothers in a weird world going on a weird adventure but the emotional core would be genuine.
And there are so many that don't seem to care about art at all.... maybe sometimes about aesthetics, or beauty or enjoyment, but not artistic effort or integrity. Also, lamenting about art based off calculations and data analysis and then mentioning the Lego movie? come on.
Did you see the Mario movie? Bc it does exactly what you describe, but you’re just implying the emotional core wasn’t genuine ? I liked the movie & the boys I babysit loved it. Idk how much more emotions would’ve fit in this sort of silly adventure romp❤
Not to mention that companies use AI to suck in viewers for profit. It's well known that software developers for many websites won't let their kids on them cause they understand how people get so sucked in to the point we aren't doing something online but living online. And that online creators a lot of the time literally only live for the algorithm. MrBeast thrives off of big number, constant cutting and bright colours (I don't even mean that as a criticism he literally says that himself). It's fine if you like his videos or a movie which doesn't require you to think much and is made just to switch off and have fun, that's okay. But people also need to remember to expand their palette, not just going for whatever is being favoured by the algorithm or whatever your favourite brand makes and be fine with criticism. Seriously, for anyone who can't take criticism because you think critics just can't have fun with a children's movie just think "if what they addressed was applied to the movie, would it make it worse or better?"
You really know how to put this into words. It's like that one ProzD video: "I hate that thing." "You hate that thing??? But... on opening night after the illumination logo with the minion in the kart rolled, some toddler in the row in front of me stood up and *screamed,* "HAHAHA! THAT WAS FUNNY!" and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the experience.

@@NicholasRSims Yes, Illumination tried to make this film as respectful to the source material as possible, and it worked. Does that mean that it stands out as its own film to most people who are not fans of the Mario franchise? No. If I were given a choice of what film to watch: “Encanto”, “Raya And The Last Dragon” or the Mario movie, I would pick “Encanto” definitely over those two films, in my opinion (not because the film is made by Disney, but because I think that film has better quality than the other two films). Just because Illumination made one film that has resonated with a lot of people doesn’t mean that the studio has surpassed Disney in quality. If anything, I think modern Disney and Illumination’s track record are one in the same: they both make hit-or-miss films.

I used to think that... Until I realised it's just BS. You can't like something and simultaneously think "it's objectively bad". Not without some massive cognitive dissonance. However, if we are in an environment where most people around us disagree with us and we express our opinion, we risk those people to think less of us. And that's what the "I like it, but I know it's bad" is actually for. It's not an actual take. It's just a defense mechanism in order to minimize any potential loss of social status. Fun fact: "Peaches" wasn't even supposed to be in the movie. Jack Black recorded it for fun. When he shared it with the producers as a joke, they decided to shove it into the movie. And they had to pitch-shift and slightly autotune his voice to make it sound like his Bowser voice and make it cleaner-sounding, because he used his own voice and wasn't as careful about hitting good notes as usual.
You have it wrong. While people did not like Pratt and they did overreact, their main argument was why did they not hire Charles Martient, over a celebrity who often just sounds like himself. When I hear Bowser, I dont hear, "Jack Black being Jack Black".

What I love about this review is that you hit the nail on the head about Bowser’s song being out of place. It WAS a blooper take. It was never intended to be in the movie. Jack Black sent it to the producers as a JOKE but they decided to just put it into the movie. I was laughing so hard during this point in the movie but not because of the song- because I couldn’t BELIEVE they put something so shit and out of place. Felt like a slap in the face.
@@SquidwardSmellsGOOD734 I work as a Teacher’s Assistant for a pre-K class, and during quiet/nap time, there was a kid that kept singing this song and humming the melody. I couldn’t tell you how much I wanted him to just shut up and go to sleep. LOL 😂
The movie literally jumps to from Peach: "I hate bowser aaaaaaa" to Bowser: "Peach you're so cool I love you" I thought it was gonna be in the mid point of the movie and there's gonna be some buildup to the song, and then the movie just pisses in your face and gives it to you in what seemed like the first 20 minutes
yes dude finally someone is saying this! i hate when people use the "its just a kids film" argument, because it literally devalues those film's legitimacy as art, which is pretty ironic considering the fact that they're the ones who are trying to defend the movie
@@chain12bb did you expect a super mario movie to be as complex as inception or be filmed like citizen cane?? This is why movie critics are mostly dumbasses. Yeah as a defense of the product it makes zero sense. Same with the "it's Mario, what were you expecting?" thing. Like bruh, if even you admit that it's not good, what the hell is your problem with other people saying that?
It wasnt too bad for a movie to watch with the kiddo. He clearly dont talk from a parent perspective haha. Gonna be real, this is a rant I want to go nearly every day. It's not just with Mario, people are unhinged for their favorite franchises. I go out of my way to not be the same. It's okay to criticize all media, even if it's stuff I like, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.
it's silly because people do the opposite too... when there's a franchise they hate they attack anyone who dares to have a positive experience with it. it's just ridiculous..
Yeah. I hear people don't like a movie and I wonder what they missed, and try to share my experience. In the past sometimes people would eventually rewatch something and say 'Yeah, I totally get what you were saying', and the same for me. I could see something I didn't like, and take away something from it on the rewatch. Now, it's like no one's talking, it's more like they're trying to indoctrinate you and force you into their cult, or they act like kids when you say something mean about their mom. Almost like they identify with a brand like it's family, or their tribe
Any big name brand that people grew up with is going to have this. It's why Hollywood only wants to touch on brands that have existed for at least 20 years. If it's new, people will look at it with honest eyes, mostly. If it's old enough to have a legacy and built-in audience, it'll have sycophants eager to simp for it.
Sounds like the starfield fanbase. I saw someone legitimately say that it's fine that the game's frame rate is so bad because the only reason people would want over 30 fps is if they were playing a competitive game
In a world where Studio Ghibli exists and has made multiple movies firmly aimed at kids, including My Neighbour Motherfuckin' Totoro, the "but it's just a kid's movie!" argument is just proof that whoever says it doesn't know what they're talking about.
They'll say "it's just a kids movie" to defend unspectacular family movies but those same people will never say "it's just a kids movie" to critique acclaimed and beloved family movies.
Also that kind of shit deters studio execs from approving and promoting stuff that tries, creatives to try and parents to feed that mindset by not caring what their kids see.
In a time where everyone is trying to defend animation as a legitimate art form against the mainstream mentality that it’s for kids, it’s telling when a majority of people will backpedal against this advocation for the sake of Mario.
@Lost Media 4U The thing is, I would build up to that stuff, instead of just putting it all into the first film. Keep the first movie simple, then continue to build up stakes with subsequent movies.
Part of me is begging you to get off Twitter because it's clearly driving you insane, but another part wants to encourage you to keep at it because this is fucking hilarious
5:41 Thank you! The problem is so many people don't actually like MOVIES, they only really like IPs or specific concepts. Anyway, I can't wait for the 4th Spongebob Movie.
In fairness, just because something is original or a brand new IP doesn't automatically mean it's good either. And alot of people are gushing over the new "Puss In Boots" movie too, and that's part of the Shrek franchise, people forget. So it's not entirely original either, but doesn't make it bad.
The movie was fine. People are probably just overjoyed that they finally released a Mario movie that felt like a Mario movie. As for me, my main problem with it is something that you surprisingly didn't mention: that a gigantic chunk of the plot was dedicated to getting the Kong army to fight Bowser, but then they lose the entire Kong army before even getting to their destination. The one and only thing they got out of that was DK, who served as a minor distraction.
Omg so true! The way this was paced, the main conflict of the film was getting that army. Then it was immediately the finale. The story was soooo muddy

I'm just glad a non-disney movie is making bank this time. Your friends getting pissed you find something wrong with it is dumb, it's okay to recognize a film has flaws, and still enjoy it.
@@brandon17760 i feel the same way, a lot of people don’t realize they can enjoy a movie and also believe it had underwhelming writing. It was animated well, the story had a decent structure. But it’s still subpar, and the characters felt so flat.
These people always wanna have their cake and eat it too. Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish was also a kid's movie but look at what that one accomplished.
you don't even need to look at a recent movie like Puss In Boots 2.... Just look at the two greatest and most beloved movies of all time, Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory and The Wizard Of OZ.
Exactly! They could've done so much more with actual Mario music, if they actually wanted to in the very least make the audience experience something similar to playing the games. The original music was reduced to "references", jingles... I couldn't really cheer hard for that.
I don't understand this take either. The music was so bog-standard movie music. And it kept throwing in little musical jingles as more "easter eggs" then actually trying to put an interesting spin on koji kondos music. Like the amount of times we heard the first 2 seconds of 1-1s theme was infuriating.
The actually good music on the score got awkwardly cut and replaced with pop tunes. I like Take On Me, but when I heard it come on my smile just fell and I thought "This... This doesn't fit..." I can listen to A-Ha any day, why do I have to listen to it during the Mario movie. Likewise for the Sonic movie. They chose uptown funk for a dance battle when the whole Sonic CD soundtrack was RIGHT THERE!!!

They made a really good attempt of staring at me as if I had just quoted a passage from Mein Kampf, then refused to discuss the film with me any further. I miss rational discussion. :/
Thanks for pointing out that people internalize their favorite brands as part of their actual identity. It’s getting very annoying trying to talk to a lot of people about anything. I’ve been told I’m “thinking too much” or “not consuming it the right way” when I talk to people about movies. Like, sorry I critically consume media and like pondering the art I’ve consumed? Idk, man. It’s sad.
I got called "a pretentious asshole who thinks he knows everything" one time pretty much out of nowhere because I mentioned how I determine MY JUDGEMENT of what I think of a movie. It wasn't even meant to be insulting or whatever. I was just talking about some of my favorite movies and I mentioned how I really like The Godfather and Citizen Kane and someone comes out of nowhere to call them overrated, a term I hate, and when I said "I like them not only for their stories and characters, but also for what they did for filmmaking.", that's when they called me the said thing above. To be honest, I probably DO know more than them. I know people who've worked in the film industry. I've gone to film sets before. I love the art form and actively learn the history of things. Hey fellas, guess what? When you do study a subject to gain knowledge about said subject, you know more about it and are therefore smarter compared to others on said subject.
@@maneater3795 The thing is when the end user is consuming an art it really doesn't matter what knowledge you have about it beforehand as what each individual finds engaging varies sometimes significantly, so you can study film all you want and appreciate the finer details as much as you like this doesn't mean your assessment of the end result is any more valid than someone's else with an entirely different experience because, newsflash art is subjective, I believe what people take umbrage with is when someone claiming to be an expert an art acts like they want to invalidate their own personal experience with said art.

If there's no plot, there is no story, and if there's no story, there is no movie, and if there's no movie then what the hell do we have...... Nothing.😶
I think my thing that sealed the deal for this one was just the fact that Nintendo went with illumination of all studios, one that basically peaked at its conception. Like i get they probably couldn't swing a partnership with Dreamworks or a studio with a more competent writing department or whatever, but it still just pains me that possibly the most iconic character in the history of arcade games gets a mid film thats equivalent to a reference pacifier for an hour and a half, especially given how much i loved how the movie was marketed. Illumination never ceases to amaze me in their mediocrity, even when playing with an IP as recognizable and full of potentially amazing worlds and stories as Mario.
Nintendo is many things, but stupid is not one of them. The reason they chose Illumination is because they didn't want a studio with anything resembling an "artistic vision". Contrary to what he may have said in recent interviews in an attempt to dispel this notion, Shigeru Miyamoto in particular has a well-documented contempt for video games that emphasize story. The last thing he wants is for the movies to give people any funny ideas about what the games could be. What we got in the Super Mario movie is perfect for him: A paper thin plot and characters stuffed with "REMEMBER THAT FROM THE GAMES???" moments.
And no one has even mentioned what I think is the worst part of the movie: Why the FUCK did Mario INTENTIONALLY lead the bullet bill through the warp pipe to Brooklyn? He KNOWS that's where that pipe leads, he came out of it. So he's being chased by a giant missile powerful enough to blow up the Mushroom Kingdom, sees the pipe and thinks, "Hey, I should lead this giant explosive through the pipe that leads to my hometown where my family lives!" What was his plan?
haphazard writing, or mario wasn't thinking straight or didn't think leading it would indirectly blow up the city if he continue leading it upward after ir came out from the pipe -> city and continue leading into the sky to blow it up
To be fair, no one would expect to have their own universe sucked into a different one by a bomb. Mario just wanted to protect the Mushroom Kingdom from the banzai bill's explosion and he thought that luring it into the warp zone would do the trick. Well it did, except... yeah. It was all simply an unexpected turn of events. Pretty easy to understand
@@GBA-049 but the question is, what did he expect? I would have expected the bomb to go all the way through to Brooklyn, then blow up in the city. Why was he so sure that wouldn't happen? In fact, it blowing up halfway through was the best case scenario, and even still it put Brooklyn in danger. And I have a really hard time believing he knew that's what was gonna happen. What scenario was Mario picturing in his mind that didn't endanger Brooklyn? He knows that's where the warp pipe leads.
@@JustinBA007 Because the banzai bill already had its sights set to Mario when he provoked it, therefore it was about to explode moments before it got tricked into entering the warp zone. And from that point, it wouldn't have enough time to fly straight to Brooklyn because Mario knew it was going to go off mere moments anyway.
@@JustinBA007 And Mario didn't have any time to think because, well, he was being chased by an angry sentient bomb for crying out loud. It was a "in the heat of the moment" type of situation. A dire one at that. Hope that makes sense.
(spoiler) I love how Take On Me played during the Kong Island scene. Because whenever I hear the lyrics "Take on me; take me on", I think of gorillas flying planes. Completely normal song choice definitely made by a human and not ChatGPT.
“The critics hate it so it must be good!” I honestly hate the reversal that critics have faced lately. Like take what critics say with a grain of salt but to pretend they offer nothing of any value without even looking at what they say, is just plain foolish.
Yeah. I used to have thoughts of that and stuff. But like.. in all fairness they were pretty fair on the movie and honestly probably should have been harsher
I think it's perfectly valid to completely disregard the opinions of critics. But if you're going to watch something because critics hate it you're still acting on their opinion.
if most of the recent professional critics didn’t start judging the quality of a movie/series by the presence of woke messages, no matter the quality of the story and characters, maybe people wouldn’t have started doing this…
As a Mario fan, I can admit that this is legit one of the worst pieces of Mario media I have ever seen. This soulless cashgrab with zero substance makes Hotel Mario look like Super Mario Odyssey in comparison (cause at least Hotel Mario had charm and effort, even if it was bad).
Not to mention how ugly the character animation looks compared to the fluent style of some of the recent games. Illumination always go for the most generic means of having these characters move and it’s jarring as Hell
@@N8-PT Yeah I agree, even though I don’t like the Mario & Rabbids games, I can admit that those games had WAY better animation than anything from the movie. The movie just felt like Illumination’s generic animation style, but made worse and given way too much detail.

After seeing so many people on twitter going on and on about how good the movie was I had some hope. Then I watched it. It really felt like they were talking about a movie they imagined because the actual movie was so Not Good.
@Bread And Circuses but 2/10 is way too low so it is not all valid on Adam's. It honestly does look impressive animation wise at least. Well after seeing it they did take it seriously and it worked out. This movie was not a "Design by Committee" movie created for Nintendo to advertise the games and their two amusement parks (they do not need the exposure which is why suggesting that the movie was created to advertise is such bullshit. Well it has characteriation and some depth but not much depth, there is some nnice artistic cinematography and shots like of the fire flower field or on top of those rocky cliff things, there is backstory and we see Mario and Luigis' family and even Princess Peachs' backstory, the storyline and narrative could be better though, thesis could be better too, actually most of the english voice acting is good. This movie does not look like a sub-90 minute commercial and the trailers did not spoil everything that's gonna happen in the film's plot. True but the Sonic movie was not bad. I mean you are wrong about Peach as near the end she is in trouble and is basically captured and does need help. The film was written by real hardcore Mario fans passionate over this series which explains all the mario references and even Donkey Kong references and even lore and stuff like the blue shell Koopa, it was not writtenn by psuedo fans who view this series as a souless cashgrab.
I wasted a lot of time on getting to and from the theatre and watching the movie and blew 26 of Polish currency because people who are usually able to be critical of media kept saying that you'll have fun if you're a fan. They now and then brought up that this was despite the story. I feel more burnt by them than by Illumination and Nintendo.
@Bread And Circuses about now just being a debby downer it's not disrespectful it's much much much more faithful then the 1993 movie this was like watching the video game come to life
Thank you for perfectly capturing my frustration about the hype for movie (and a ton of others coming out recently, Avatar 2 comes to mind). And as a professional animator, I want to say that you are 100% correct about the over-animation thing.
The greatest thing this movie did for me was that it helped me appreciate how great Wreck-It Ralph was. I really don’t get why Illumination always goes for the ugliest corporate CGI style possible for their characters when the art style in the current games look perfectly fine. Go back and look at Bowser in Wreck-It Ralph after watching the Mario movie and the difference is night and day
"kids movies suck, why can't they be more like toy story or puss in boots" mario movie comes out "not every kids movie has to be toy story or puss in boots guys relax"
I just went back and watched your Detective Pikachu review, and you said something along the lines of, "If this was the first time we were introduced to this universe, would the film really be successful?" The film was successful because of the fandom. It's exactly the same with the Mario movie.
Exactly--hell, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet being released in such a sorry state and still having tons of people defend it and give it glowing reviews just shows that some things are indeed too big to fail, to the point where their absolute worst material will still be financially successful. And this movie and the reactions to it prove that further.
I watched it with my kids and they loved it and like always I told them I liked it too because I dont want to trash things my kids enjoy in front of them. As an adult it didnt give me much to think about but one thing I can say is that it wasnt "boring". It was so quick to move from one scene to the next that as soon as I would start thinking "oh this is the scene where this will happen" it would already be over and the next scene would start. Not saying making movies for people with TikTok attention spans is the way to go but at least the movie was over before I got REALLY bored.
This is pretty much my reaction to the Rise of Skywalker, in that I wasn't bored. I wasn't allowed to be bored. The film was designed to never let go of your hand, always pulling you along. The only problem is that not being bored is not the same as being excited, not to say anything about plain enjoyment. I haven't seen the Mario movie, probably never will, so I can't be 100% sure, but the parallels seem to be there in force. Same form of structured anti-boredom pacing and key jiggling. All of the Disney movies had that quality for the most part, but the last one was just getting glitter thrown into your face nonstop.
Nice to get the perspective of a parent! I took my 9yo nephew to see it and we had a great time. Sure it’s no *Parasite* lol but it’s a fun family movie and if you’re a Mario fan you’ll obviously get more out of it than your run of the mill forgettable children’s film.
I was pretty bored once they got to the Mushroom Kingdom. It was like yeah, this all looks great but I'd rather just play the game then sit through what felt like a long, boring cutscene.
He’s absolutely right that all you hear is Jack Black riffing. It’s not good, it’s not funny. It certainly doesn’t give the illusion that “Bowser” is singing it. Yes, because it just sounds exactly like Jack Black, but also the lip syncing in that scene especially feels way off. And I mean I wouldn’t want to have to hand animate Jack Black screaming incoherently into a mic onto Bowser either, but maybe they should have just…not included that in the movie then?
My favorite reference was the One World Trade Center in the background of the Mario Bros. plumbing commercial, implying that 9/11 is canonical to the Mario universe.
Actually there’s was gonna be more scenes with Bowser and Luigi, but they had to be removed because they figured it was too controversial to have them passionately making out for 10 minutes.
honestly, as much I do agree with Adam and his opinions on this movie, and the culture, I do kinda wish he didn’t spend so much of the review talking about how much people didn’t like the fact that he didn’t like it. And again I really agree with his points, especially the first point he made about children being raised on television and the concerning effects that can have on perceptions of reality, subconsciously training your brain to need media or storytelling simulation. But it felt really hard to watch this review when I just don’t give a shit how other people felt about Adam’s opinion. I just wanna hear his unbridled opinion without him talking about people online being “babies”
Absolutely agree, though I really enjoyed the film myself, I could totally see Adams points about people being overly obsessed about others opinions on not liking the movie. In my opinion, I have encountered many people that didn't like the movie and I really didn't care.
But even then the fact that so many of the defenders and supposedly passionate fans responded with “look at those film critics, they don’t know shit about Mario, I played every single title in the franchise and it fucking sucks, it’s meant to be dogshit, that’s the whole point”
There’s also a worrying overlap with a community that has such disdain for criticism to the point where they straight up believe that movies are not art, and people who talk about movies as if they are art are nothing but “pretentious out of touch intellectuals”. Seriously, it’s a thing. It’s people who agree with that Scorsese phrase, except that they think it’s good - Because of course it grew out of MCU and DCEU obsessed communities.
In the near future the only discourse regarding movies will be “how woke this movie is” against “this movie have absolutely no substance and its visually just like this one thing that’s adapting, and it’s for the fans”
“Just consume products” wasn’t a bit, it was a fucking prophecy.
They basically insulted the Mario brand without even knowing lol
Mario isn't exactly amazing art in story though
They're a beacon of quality and polish for the GAMEPLAY and level design, not the plot. LOL Mario isn't that deep guys

Also that he made a 2 1/2 hour video defending and dedicating a half of a likely 6 hour series praising a kids movie.
oh nonono it's different because there are more furries in that one, that means it's perfectly fine
Is Last Wish really a kids movie though?

You go to a movie to experience something. Not see a reference.

The games are sex
the movie is just pornography.

The worst part is that the movie actually had a really nice original score apparently that actually homaged and remixed a lot of Nintendo game music, and then they just threw that out to plug in copyrighted music like Take On me
Their reasoning for using Take On Me was because that song was #1 when the NES released in the US
All that score is in the film. There are very few, if any, scenes without the score or licensed music playing.
Going from a Donkey Kong Country remix to fucking Take On Me 30 seconds later was the biggest tonal whiplash I've felt in long time
Every license song scene was so bad, it felt like it was a hasty fan edit. I guess we know it was actually a hasty re-edit, which is somehow worse.
@@lordvlygar2963 If anything, the best thing about this movie is that it's setting a better standard for the use of video game tracks in video game music. And that online creators a lot of the time literally only live for the algorithm. MrBeast thrives off of big number, constant cutting and bright colours (I don't even mean that as a criticism he literally says that himself). You’re not necessarily obligated to be aware of any kind of flaws. You can enjoy everything about a certain movie for yourself without feeling the need to validate others opinions just because a certain movie is well known for being bad
hey if you think that the angry birds movie is a masterpiece then there’s nothing wrong with having that opinion, myself and hopefully everyone else will respect your opinion and you can respect ours back.
It's just a defense mechanism in order to minimize any potential loss of social status.

haphazard writing, or mario wasn't thinking straight or didn't think leading it would indirectly blow up the city if he continue leading it upward after ir came out from the pipe -> city and continue leading into the sky to blow it up
To be fair, no one would expect to have their own universe sucked into a different one by a bomb. @@JustinBA007 Because the banzai bill already had its sights set to Mario when he provoked it, therefore it was about to explode moments before it got tricked into entering the warp zone.
@Bread And Circuses It is not punking me
@Bread And Circuses it's still more faithfull then Lorax or Grinch
Go back and look at Bowser in Wreck-It Ralph after watching the Mario movie and the difference is night and day
Because Illumination movies are relatively cheap compared to other big animated films
This movie was the big budget equivalent to “107 facts about mario” youtube videos
This is the best comment on this video lmao this made me actually laugh out loud
“did you know that super mario bros. 2 was originally a japanese game called ‘doki doki panic’?” -☝️🤓
"kids movies suck, why can't they be more like toy story or puss in boots"
mario movie comes out
"not every kids movie has to be toy story or puss in boots guys relax"
*Makes over 50 “Modern Disney vs. Modern DreamWorks” TikTok meme videos cherry-picking the best scenes of Puss in Boots 2 and The Bad Guys*
Not every kids movie has to be Puss in Boots, but I expect at least a little substance, which The Mario movie did not have.
can we call "brand validation" a genre? there's gonna be way more of it in the future
This is more of a review of Mario movie fans, and I'm here for it.
Putting the Your Movie Sucks back on YMS. We missed you.
Well that review didn’t age well.
Finally, somebody who also hates "peaches", that sh*t is awful
@@slackershrub8923 how does that make any sense 💀
x2. GOSH, I HATE THAT SONG and looks like the Spanish dub make it like a torture for my ears
Fucking excuse me????
Actually there’s was gonna be more scenes with Bowser and Luigi, but they had to be removed because they figured it was too controversial to have them passionately making out for 10 minutes.
Zootopia levels of mainstream, PG rated film that feels like it should've been a hentai
@@technicolorbarf6734 The Super Princess Peach movie is a great ironic comedy and American Sitcom...
honestly, as much I do agree with Adam and his opinions on this movie, and the culture, I do kinda wish he didn’t spend so much of the review talking about how much people didn’t like the fact that he didn’t like it.
I also agree that most of the review was just complaining about other people not liking his view on the movie and after a while it was kind of hard for me to watch
This is like the 6th video of him ranting about the fans but he’s coming off as being just as obsessive for validation as they are
My sentiments exactly
@@8Bit.Slasher That's a good way to put it. There comes a point where complaining about complainers just loops around to you being a complainer yourself. Adum got a little carried away here about the response to the movie to the point that it overwhelms the review itself.
'Calling you a stupid baby isn't a real insult, why are you insulted, change your diaper'
Just
Just fucking say 'you're a dumb baby and if you feel insulted then good,' christ
Those rabid fans only appeared on Twitter, it seems. Meanwhile, my Facebook feed had a few people who said they took their kids to see it and enjoyed it; that's all I saw about this movie on that platform. And people say FB is the toxic one
FB is toxic still😊
@@squeaks5677 I guess it depends on how you use it. I just use it to scroll through meme pages and keep up with old acquaintances.
I basically came out of this thinking “Yep that’s exactly what I expected. I don’t know why anyone expected anything else.”
