I got an idea that using light phone 2 and Onyx Boox Palma could be enough for basic needs. With light phone you can call and send text messages since the box palma can’t do that, and with box palma you can read book, be on some social apps and just do the thing light phone can’t. I think this combo would break my phone addiction and I would definitely buy it if I had the money.
That’s a great combo. I would love to use the light phone 2 with the Palma. The apps are far less tempting on the Palma since the apps are developed to tempt you with colors and movements. Since the device is black and white I’ve had no issue putting it down after checking my email or banking app.
Hey, this is a great video, thanks! Just curious - do you use music streaming? and if yes, why do you choose to have a separate mp3 player and not use the Boox Palma for music?
I’m really enjoying your videos and will be subscribing. Quick question, what are you using as a video camera to film these videos? As I use my new iPhone as the excuse to not get rid of it. Always saying that I still need WhatsApp plus a camera for stills and video. I’m tempted to go back to Mini Disc again to record and listen to music. Possibly buy a Palma for reading, Spotify, language learning and first draft writing.
Thanks for the kind words! I use a Sony ZV-1F vlog camera. The iPhone is great for filming and you can use it as a content device but I always end up doom scrolling 😬. Having a feature phone helps me cope since it has WhatsApp. The Boox Palma also has WhatsApp and all the other apps such as my banking and necessities. I honestly have rediscovered using my computer again which I find a lot less addictive than my phone.
~~while you doing new video for RUclips~~ "I'm recovering from addiction". I can't believe to people who saying that he stop smoking, but continue smoking. Phone is not addiction by themself. Addiction is social networks and communication that happened in the internet. So if you're watching youtube or instagram on 'dumb' phone or taking a part in 'online' conversation then you continue to be addicted, but you're doing this from shitty device. My experience with cigarettes say that if you want to stop smoking - you need to stop smoking anything. If you're trying to minimize smoking, but keep smoking - you just keep supporting unwanted habit.
I agree. It's not the phone per se but the apps installed in them. My digital EDC consists of a smartwatch, BT earphones and my smartphone. I hardly go on social media (FB and X, just to check up on friends and family like once/month) and I watch RUclips videos on my downtime. I've only had one game on my phone since 2011 and I've barely played that too. It's not the phone's fault but yours. You could always walk away, or as you have pointed, temper your usage. You're still addicted, you're just using a crappier way to assuage it. Just my 2 pence.
See with these g’s… America keeps on going up with g’s, I heard from a friend that the USA is working on 6g, what’s wrong with the lower g’s? Maybe if we lowered the G’s, then maybe so many people would stop getting sick.🤨 I’m going back to a flip phone in July, I’m getting a free phone until July and then I’m going back to a flip phone, I’ll still use a tablet and/or computer but I just want a phone, where I can call people, it’s too much some times.
Yeah the rush to ditch old tech is getting out of control. I also noticed more phones are eSIM only in the US which doesn’t give people the option to switch phones easily. I love flip phones and just using a phone as a phone.
Hey Laura I’m on the digital minimalist wagon too purchasing an mp3 player using my digital camera more and looking to get a dumb phone soon. Ive only got to get off my smartphone more but I have an addiction to RUclips at present. I’m getting there. Btw do you recommend the mechen m30 mp3 player?

Wow first time i hear about "Digital Minimalism"..❤️
Good stuff, Laura! I'm on the verge of dipping my toe into digital minimalism, but my work obligations may be an obstacle to it.
I get it. I think doing whatever works for you is the way to go. Thanks for watching!
You may be able to get a device from the company

Some said they are not able to use WhatsApp with the Nokia 6300 anymore.
Is that true?
@@Lp-ze1tg this is true. You can use it if you are already connected, until January 2025.

No I use a Sony

Would that Mechen remember where you left off on audiobooks??
No I'm afraid not. It does not hold the place in the podcasts I listen to and I'm sure the same is to be said for audiobooks. This is bummer 😞
