Having lived in Asia for over 30 years I can catergoriclly state that flying any american airline is sub par by comparison..... embarrasingly so... unfriendly interiors of the aircraft... poor and sometimes seriously unfriendly service by sometimes unkempt and downright dirty looking staff... to be avoided if possible... exiting the USA , I always get to an airportt and transfer to an Asian airline to fly trans pacific ... inconvenient but preferable.. I volubly laugh when I see that an american airline advertising that they are No 1 in the USA... means zero when it comes to the global markets...

I've been flying AA for business for nearly 25 years. It has continued to get worse year after year. It all seemed to start to really fall off when the America West executives took over US Airways and then took over AA. It's a good airline that could be great but Doug and his executives are not focused on delivering a premier product. They are focused on being just good enough and getting customers from A to B safely. Catering is definitely an area where they just don't care. Dan, I do think the flight attendants were supposed to take off the plastic wrap prior to serving. As always, your video was spot on and well produced. Thank you!

The difference no one exposes in forums like these is, those foreign carriers like Air France, British air ways, are subsidized and fully backed by their governments unlike our carries here in the US thus Air France can run a business model at a deficit with barely or no profit, while an American airlines who's raising capital from running its business, private bank loans and stocks sales has to make a profit for their investors and to pay bank loans and creditors even when business is lean and even the few times the U.S. government has help then out, via bail-out loans, they've had to pay it back and with interest, not so in socialist Europe or Asia.

I told the f/a that she gave me the wrong menu. She said nope, first class is being served from the business class menu. Most of the food was unrecognizable and lacked taste. Slippers and jammies on this flight? Nope, they weren't on the catering list. If I hadn't been flying on miles, I would have asked for a refund.

So for those who have tried this seat: Am I the only one who feels like the seat is too "narrow"? My arms keep falling off to the sides, which is rather uncomfortable. For night flights I actually prefer the business class seat on the 777-300 from AA, the side walls keep my arms in place and are actually a bit more comfortable; if only they had the mattress pad for the business class as well, that would be a perfect seat.

I do appreciate when an airline provides a video port in their premium cabin IFEs, especially an HDMI port. It makes it a whole lot easier to do work, as you can plug your laptop into it and work in dual monitor mode with your laptop screen and the IFE screen. I'm composing this comment from my desktop computer with a dual-monitor setup and I can't tell you how constrained I feel when I switch over to my single-screen laptop. Speaking of composite video ports seen in this video, next time, I'll bring a compact retro game console (e.g. my PlayStation 2 Slim) and test it out. Finally, that port below the video jacks is a Panasonic eXport, a long-deprecated standard for plugging your Apple iPod into the IFE and controlling and charging it on the screen.

    Works the opposite too.

I am surprised that there is anyone willing to spend $10K on this product. It is embarrassing soft product and even hard product doesn’t compare to QR business class Qsuite.

That round port is Panasonic eXport, an attempt for "plug any mobile device into the display" before USB just steam rolled it. You could buy adapter cables for common devices, but it never really caught on.

As a rule, I avoid US carriers when I fly international; they simply do not measure up to Asian, Middle Eastern and European airlines. I prefer Qatar, Emirates, All Nippon and Singapore.

It's embarrassing how bad US airlines are compared to others in the world. Delta is the only decent one and even that's just an average airline. Use any foreign airline and see the difference in service, training, food, accommodations, and overall professionalism. US flight attendants treat you like you're a prisoner. Foreign flight attendants treat you like you're a valued guest of honor (they even use proper honorifics when talking to you). Different league.

I've been on AA's so called 'first class'. It is really business class-like when compared to other airlines that have both first and business class, with the latter being the lower tier.

It's so embarrassing that I worked for AMR Corp for nearly 20 years to have this kind of crappy service. They were the premier airline back in the day and I had some great experiences on those flights. Not today, I avoid AA with everything in my power. It all went down hill when US Air group purchased them..poor poor poor.

As someone who has been on that exact route, I can say that Heathrow is always like that.
