Im just beginning my cybersecurity journey and totally respect your reasons for leaving! I don't want to be good, i want to be great!
🎯🎯🎯🎯
Any opinions on Cyber Bootcamps?
I’m a software sec engineer at a smaller company and the exposure to technologies has been exciting. Your perspective makes me appreciate my current job. ❤
Thank you
I appreciate your honesty and this field (Nontechnical roles) is not for the faint of heart. The higher you go the more emotional intelligence you need.
LOVE your thought process my man ! I am a bit older than you and I say ALWAYS look out for YOURSELF FIRST! You are very intelligent and have the wanted and NEEDED skills to pay the bills. I suggest you think about starting your very OWN Cyber Security business where you call the shots and make the REALLY big bucks! We NEED more Intelligent people like you! I am proud of you! New sub.😎👍🏾
That’s in the works as well!
That's my goal as well in the future. After I gain enough experience, like 6+ years in the industry, I'd create a cybersecurity company that focuses on cloud security. Look at the founders of Fortinet. They were working in the industry for decades and then left and founded their own company and they're multi billionaires now.
This was a great video. I am the same way. I like to keep learning and having new experiences. Doing the same thing everyday day without much variation in workload seems boring. It’s great for people starting out who want experience or don’t care to excel career wise or their own technical skills. You made the best decision for yourself and that’s what matters!
Thanks!! Gotta show the good and bad when it comes to this tech life
Maaannnn this is very good! Some will never understand..being underutilized or used WRONG. Good on you for being able to pivot!
I understand. Sometimes when I quit a high paying job, the first thing people would ask me "damn why would you quit this high paying job? Look at all the money you making" but they don't realize that it's not all about the money. Maybe I quit because of terrible management or colleagues or toxic work culture or simply I just need a break. Once you have the experience, you can always have another great paying job. Great video and good luck g 👍🏾
Appreciate it my guy
Great video bro! I appreciate videos like this! It gives me a slight insight on what I may be dealing with getting into this new cybersecurity field. I’m new to this but dedicated to learn as much as I can

Thanks for sharing this experience with us HD. Hope your next role is more fulfilling and you are doing what you love.
Thank you bro
Respect the move, Gotta be Happy with what you do, if not you'll never feel fulfilled. Love the videos and information. I'm always tuning in.

I completely understand you . I am currently transitioning into IT. I work at a job where it mentally drains me. I’m under paid under valued ect but I’m only there to pay bills and progress into my Cyber career . It’s hard honestly but i know it will get better for me .

First off, thanks for all the information you give to us!
Next, I agree 100% about the money doesn’t matter if you’re miserable at your job. I’ve always said I’d rather make $85,000yr at a job I love versus $200,000yr doing something I hate.
Congrats on your new role! I know you’ll be great no matter where you go!
Thanks again 😊
Thanks for the love and the support Tammy ❤️
thank you for be so honest and opened
You’re welcome!!
Taking notes from you brother! Good luck on your journey 💪🏿
Thanks bro!
Lessons I learned too, more money is good but you get numb to it almost. I'm excited for you in the new company, keep at it brother!
Thanks bro!
Respect the decision. No one wants to be miserable no matter how much money their making. I started my helpdesk career this year and my end goal is cloud security.Videos like this provide great insight on what to expect and how to maneuver when you cross these type of obstacles.
🎯🎯
I completely understand. I started my first helpdesk role last year and quit after a few months because I hated the environment. Good luck on your next role.
Yeah people don’t understand how that affects your whole mood
What are you doing now? Did you have a job before you quit?
Get you some cloud certs and just skip helpdesk. i did. i cant imagine doing help desk. i think its beneathe me since i have a masters degree in IT from WGU.
@TerryJulianLive that’s not how this works. I know people with plenty of certs and no job.
Certs don’t equate to skills and there are helpdesk roles that pay a lot of money too
Got a new subscriber. Keep grinding brother. 🙋🏾♂️
Thank you 💪🏽💪🏽
Facts dude. Money doesn’t always motivate you. I learned that in my mortgage career- that’s how I ended up in IT.
Salute to you making that transition
What's your title in IT if you don't mind me asking? And I agree money isn't everything.
Thanks for keeping it 💯
Thank you for this video. I really didn’t understand what Cybersecurity entails. I applied to a Amazon role that sounds just like the position you quit, except my background is in Compliance and I understand the foundations of Risk Management but I don’t have any technical skills or CS degree that the role is also looking for as the preferred skills. Now I understand that I should look into some technical courses on Coursera like SQL and Cybersecurity. Do you have any suggestions on how I should learn about technical processes?
I hear you! However, I agree with the part you said in hindsight.
I feel that
Enjoyed this video. This spoke to me. I’m currently in healthcare and it’s mentally draining. I’ve been shadowing with the IT team as of recent since I want to transition into tech. I have my security+ and I recently finished Josh Madakor’s IT course. Just trying to brush up on labs right now but I feel lost at times and my current job drains me and there’s no room to grow. I’ve been enjoying your content though 👍🏿
appreciate that my guy. Feel free to tap in with me if you need some 1on1 guidance
Did you transition? How is it going?
Can you tell me how to approach your employer your interest on shadowing with another department?
I'm in the same boat right now... in this role that pays a lot more than my previous job but I'm doing work I dont like, which is annoying. Currently working on my sec+ and ccna... enough is enough
Nice don’t forget to network pun intended

Thanks fam 💪🏽
I have two questions on the subject: 1- In 10 years, can AIs replace or take over many vacancies in cybersecurity? 2- Do you think doing comptia+, NDE, DFE, cloud+ would already be enough certifications to enter the market as a junior? what salary to expect?
Can you discuss cyber security bootcamps and your thoughts?
Im just trying to get into the field 😭, but im with you if your not learning then its time to go

It’s good to take charge. 👏🏽
Yes sirrr
Thanks for sharing this.
On another note, I'd like to hear your thoughts (maybe a vid or short) on Amazon and some bigger tech companies requiring employees to work on site for 3 days. Do you think this will have an impact on the tech industry as a whole? And why is the tech field pushing employees back to the office for roles that can be performed remotely?
i have a podcast episode that I will talk about this very soon. It's more than the companies just wanting you to be back in office but also promises they might've made when the offices were built
@@TechTualChatter Looking forward to it.
If I had to guess, some of that is them being locked into leases in heavy metro areas. I'm sure they're spending big bucks to be in prime real estate. Also, less footprint in those areas means less money being spent by workers on food, transport, shopping, etc.

Yeah but also keep in mind I have a decade of experience so I know what o warrant on the market as well
@@TechTualChatter understandable, god willing ill be in a position to know the ins and outs of this industry, the learning aspect of it all excites me thats the main reason why I switched career fields. Best of luck on your future endeavors.

With these Cyber Security jobs after a certain amount is it like a contract with severance package. Or just salary.
Depends you have salary bonuses stocks etc
Thank you for documenting your journey for us to learn. I am trying to get your ebook with the code help but the system is telling me it's not valid.

For this type of job what would you say is the cert path to get that job? It also sounds like some Data Analysis mixed in but did you have people that reported to you?
No cert path just experience. I also did not have any direct reports
Great video

Being a black man in tech in New York is... an interesting sociological adventure. I got my start working at smaller hedge funds in the Connecticut area (Stanford, Greenwich). They need you to wear multiple hats in those companies, and they are always seeking the latest and greatest solutions and technology. Be interesting thing that I discovered is that a lot of the founders have rich friends that are pursuing their own businesses. This gave me an opportunity to have more side gigs than I could handle. At this point in my career I'm working for a bigger company and I'm about to make the move from director to CTO. I'm sure more adventures await! 😁
I'm always psyched to see another brother delving deep into tech! Keep it going!

Honestly, now that I'm stepping onto the last rung on my career path, I've got to update my LinkedIn (haven't done so for like a decade!!). I'm looking at your content. It's pretty dope!
Bro I love the information.. I think you should get a better mic, it's hard to hear you at times. I know this is authentic convo your having so the nuance's in your voice at times I need to rewind it to listen harder to hear what you've said. Just my $.02
I do Agree the money isn't all that is cracked up to be if you can't enjoy it. I've quit jobs and made lateral moves for the same money for work like balance and learning opportunities.
I have a couple of mics. It just happened that this was using my shotgun mic on my camera but I’m going to out the shotgun mic on a stand so it can be closer to me.
Also thanks for checking out the video

Check out my channel. I have done videos on how you can get into cybersecurity
I now exactly what you mean when you said you started to dread going to work and being uninterested in the daily task
Yep mentally and emotionally detached
Your a better man than me. Was it because of burnout? I know because of your experience you can demand and negotiate whatever you want salary wise and remote hybrid options. Can’t wait to get into an internship and graduate college I’m excited
Not because of burnout. I just didn’t like the role and didn’t align with long term career
You can move how you want your a vet. I’m letting companies run me into the ground the first 5 years I’m in because I have no leverage or leg to stand on experience wise. I gotta take whatever pay and come to the office with a smile on my face 😂. I have no kids and I just turned 33 on the 15th and I hear we are heading into a big recession and another round of big tech layoffs, so I’m working on being more efficient with my studies, certs, degree’s and resume and perfecting my craft project wise and technical wise. I come from nothing so I will be money hungry for a long long time that’s just me Bro.

Cybersecurity is a freaking headache. I respect you wanting to learn more but most professional roles are not gonna hold your hand. Its up to you to pickup and learn the material.
