I'm fucking amazed how many people are still sleeping on Cultic. The bang-for-your-buck in this game is great, and it's just such a fun blend of frenetic shooting and actually decent tense horror moments. And hell, any FPS with a flamethrower that isn't just good but basically the BFG deserves a gold star. It's one of a very few games I've actually *bought* for fence-sitting friends because I think it really deserves it. Guess that puts me in the cult.
Its not everyday a one man passion project like this happens, but anytime it does its always a treat to play through.

Comparing Cultic to Blood, is like comparing DOOM 2 to DOOM, it takes everything the predecessor did, and shoots it up to 11, I LOVE IT
i think blood was better. but agreed.
Cultic for me joins the ranks of Ionfury, Dusk, Ultrakill and Amid Evil with regards to it's high quality.

Haven't heard of Ionfury but love the others, will def have to check it out! The recent game Elderborn isn't really a shooter but it's brutal and awesome.

The boomer shooter renaissance coughed up as much crap as it has quality, but CULTIC and Ion Fury felt like the biggest breathes of fresh air. Just good old-fashioned chunky, tactile violence in rich, immersive environments, taking all the right cues from the best of the 90's Build Engine.
I'm still waiting for somebody to make a right and proper successor to Heretic and Hexen.
Dread Templar is pretty good too. As for Heretic/Hexen I guess for now Amid Evil is the closest you gonna get.
Besides amid evil, Hedon is extremely good fantasy-themed boomer shooter with really nice maps.
I feel a lot of Boomer Shooters are at least Fun
While many might not be as great as others, many are still special and at least fun to play through every now and then
Maybe i've just not played the crappy ones, or i'm too nice about it
But theres plently of great games to go around in this new Era of Boomer Shooters

I'm not entirely familiar with the "Boomer Shooter" genre but nonetheless this video was incredibly entertaining to watch. Keep up the high quality videos king 👍.

A boomer shooter is a style of game that is strongly focused on simple to perceive yet complex capacity of quick tactics in combat and levels designed to further add to the combat and the pacing. Many mistake it as brainless, but often it's due to the sheer speed those decisions take place are hard for people to register in mind.

I’ve replied to so many of the very latter many a time, believe me. Having to explain the “30 year old boomer” meme is tiring, but it’s a habit.

I'm pretty familiar with Boomer Shooters, but I think this is the one that made me have the distinction between Quake and Doom types, and I'm more a Quake fan.
Still, extremely excellent game that is.

@@miaruuu8375 its just fps games that look like those 90's shooters, which "boomers" used to play. Though technically I don't think those people are old enough to be considered boomers, not that its a scientific term anyway (or not that i like the term :d).
My only complaint is the default weapon hotkey, remapped that and was gold.

I played the demo recently on very hard, and it sure was very hard. I just don't like how enemies can spot an hit you from miles away, since I could barely make them out. I'd have to guess whether something was an object or an enemy at a distance. Maybe all of this is just cause I was playing on very hard.
Nah, the game apparently has the same thing with cultists in Blood, in which the second they see you they fire at you with hitscan weapons. And the art style can really screw with your perception (from what i’ve seen).

Good job dude... I find myself eager to understand what the cult in cultic is and is up too .. I'm pining for the backstory of the action and I've never touched a button of the game... Maybe never will. You did your job well in this video
So Ive only watched four minutes of this review, got curious and saw that this is one of the gems that offer a demo version, so ofc I tried it.
Its magnificent and I bet that the way I felt while playing it was exactly like the feeling my dad had when he played the old Doom
One of my all time favorites is Quake 1 for many reasons, but it's hard for me to find other games of that era and such that peak my interest. Quake 1 was an absolute gem. But look at this game. it's 10 bucks, and HAS A DEMO!!!
I gotta finish Quake 1.

The only thing I'm not a fan is the color pallet. Sometimes it fucks up level design because it's so bland all around and you can't see where to go or what to do.
Beside that, hell of a game! Boomer shooter finesse.

I wonder if the game is originally in hi-color with a 8-bit color filter on top, or if it was initially made with only 8-bit. Obviously this is their decision of style but i would prefer if it had just a slight bit more color. Then it would look about like Unreal (1998)

Take influences from so many places, helps creating something new. At this point you can't even see what the orginal was.
....I'm embarrassed to say, but I only played this last Fall, and thought the first level that was all that was worked out. Looks like I owe it another go, if there was 10 whole levels so far! Loved Blood - at least the parts that don't annoy the daylights out of me. Cultists jabbering while I'm lighting them up was one of my favorite parts about it, and I've recently learned there's actually a mod that gives the cultists that same voice pack in Cultic.

I feel like I should note that the AMC Squad did the 'health items go into field kit' mechanic first. The 'slow-mo upon kills' mechanic too.
AMC Squad? i wasn`t stayed tuned for a long time, since the third episode release, does it contains AMC TC Episodes 1-3?
Actually the slow-mo on kills mechanic was done much earlier than AMC squad. Killing floor had the mechanic and it was originally released as a mod in 2005, with a standalone release in 2009.

@@ivanromanchenko459 Max Payne had you control the slow motion for the most part, and focused the camera on the enemy you killed, not kept the camera from your perspective.
@ivanromanchenko459 the 4th episode was actually released in October last year along with a lot of new updates and the like.
Living in rural America is great! There are few (if any) people, but people from more urban areas just come in and treat us like we're a tourist attraction.

Back in the demo there was no slide cool down so you could slide at the speed of light (I don’t know if this is still a feature)

Love this game, and I usually can't stand FPS games for over an hour or so. This I completed happily, just waiting for the episode 2 to come out one day. This game just looks, sounds and feels so damn good.

single handedly developing some of the best boomer shooters of the entire renaissance the genre is having by themselves
When you said that blood uses voxels, that’s not completely true, in the original blood many objects, especially environmental objects, did not, with the keys as an exception, blood fresh supply does give the option to turn them on though.
Also I don’t mean for this to come off as antagonistic it’s just something I noticed.

The sound of the video was so poorly mixed that I didn't notice any music in the background untill you mentioned it playing in the video and then still could not hear anything when trying to put my attention to it.

This game sounds good! I usually do not deell in these new so called "boomer shooters" because most of them are not like the old ones. (I'm looking at you Ultrakill).
This one instead feels old!
A lot of boomer shooters back then were made due to technical limitations. Hence why new ones are different, as it makes use of the new improvements in technology (like jumping, reloading functionality, lighting, etc.)

The creator of Cultic said on X that his influence was Resident Evil 4 and (for some reasons) Dark Forces 2. Protagonists` jacket and pistol, monsters, achievement names and other - all references to RE4. Why someone thinking of Blood? It has different tone and story and atmosphere then Cultic.

It’s based off the “30 year old boomer” meme. No it’s not calling 30 year olds boomers, it’s the mentality of “the good old days” associated with baby boomers being applied to older millennials/younger gen x’ers.
