absolutely in love with the resurgence of low-poly indie games. what a terrific medium to tell a story when big studios are all aiming for a kind of cinematic realism.
This game existing just made me all the more hopefull for Dark Messiah of Might and Magic getting a similar spiritual successor. That game was amazing for its time, the gameplay still beats most modern games tbh.

Fun fact, I had literally no idea that "0451" was a special code. I did, however, know that it would get you into the Satcom (Satellite Communications?) in Deus Ex... because I've played that part of the game so much I memorized that code.
Saw this game floating around on my Steam and never really gave it much attention as I assumed it was just a horror. After seeing your review though and seeing how similar it is to the old Thief games, I will definitely be checking it out and keeping my eye on it! Smashing review!
Another thing I liked that I think it may have took a bit of inspiration from resident evil 4 is that out and out combat IS an option, at least for a bit while you have ammo and you are a little through the demo and you have a shotgun. You never feel like you have enough to go full guns blazing, but there are definitely situations where you can calculate taking out a few gaurds loud being worth it, or if you get caught, you can save it with a few rounds. But it does feel like it costs you regardless. And the actual combat loop can be pretty fun too, judging if you got enough space to take out a number of gaurds before they can reach you, how long it takes to reload, dodging into a bit of cover to avoid a gunshot, maybe taking a calculated risk firing only 2 revolver rounds and finishing off the gaurd with a final cansword thrust if you are feeing skilled enough. It has its own resident evil like dance to it thats pretty fun in itself.
Fun note completely unrelated to the game: you can lay in bed with your phone up to your face and your eyes will actually be okay! It's a misconception that it actually damages your eyesight

I hope, as just like a small nod, they make one of the save point gramophones play the same music as the ultrakill terminals (Both games made by NewBlood)
well, id also say Dark Messiah also seems largely thief inspired as well. True, Its stealth isnt particularly robust and the combat is definitely more front and center, but how it plays is very much thief-like. The head tilting, physics engine and general play VERY much put me in this realm of games.
I mean, technically that shotgun doesn't do what the burgess did to allow it to fold like that, but like. nobody would know what the hell was going on with the animation if you tried to use the burgess style pump on the wrist (because it's super weird!!!)
I got Thief: Deadly Shadows when it came out. I wanted to like it, but I would play for a session or two, then just not go back to it. I never managed to figure out why it wasn't as compelling as the originals.
Im not sure if I watched this, and commented already, but if you talk about that damn ring like metro doesnt exist ima be pissed. I dunno if they invented diagetic light gems, but they certainly did it long before this game did.
Those goggles remind me of Helghasts from Killzone. edit: Mhrm, quite fitting considering that there may be some occult stuff going on in the universe of the game. Making those lights from the eyes a bit more creepy.

Just because it has stealth mechanics it doesn't mean its thiefish. Stealth mechanics are literally done to exhaustion.
