Great story! I grew up in the US but extremely poor and have listened to my fair share of 10th generation recorded tapes through a small, busted, piece of junk tape player. I feel like I can relate to your experience. It makes me nostalgic for the old days.

I will never understand why Blackie hates Electric Circus, I really love the album. Everything fits well and imo the backing vocals sound the best on this album.
Blackie has stated that since it was written during heavy touring it lacked quality and writing a good album usually takes at least two years including touring. What I can say the only thing I agree is that some of the songs are a bit samey. But it's still a classic album and "I'm Alive" is one of my all time favourites.

I've listened to this album more than I can count and every time I do, I fall in love with it even more. Shit, I need to listen to it right now ! Long live WASP !
This is why this channel has become my favorite on YT. I had always dismissed W.A.S.P. as another interchangeable shock rock act in the vein of Motley Crue, but only now do I hear for myself that they actually released stuff worth a listen.
Far more akin to ACDC meets Maiden. They had the same problem as Twisted Sister: essentially guilty by assosciation with the LA bands, though a lot heavier beyond the radio singles.

Im 51 and finally got to see them a few weeks ago! Incredible! He was just as good as I thought and kick myself in the as for not going when I was a teenager. None of my friends were into the scene but I was drawn into the vocals, energy and music of WASP!!!
Still remember the day I bought my first WASP album. I was 18 at the time. It was an audio tape of the debut 1984 album. I ended up coming next day to buy all other WASP records they had in that store. The whole discography. Still love them immensely.
My earliest memory of WASP is when I went to Adventureland and the ride operator of The Gravitron repeatedly blasted their “Can You See The Real Me” cover. It’s stuck with me ever since.
KFD remains as one of the darkest and angriest albums I’ve listened to. It was born of desperation of the backlash of 80’s rock. However, unlike Dokken’s Shadowlife, Motley Crue’s Generation Swine, or even Warrant’s Belly to Belly, KFD told these 90’s band’s who thought they were dark “hold my beer” and blew everything out of the water with its darkness. I didn’t like it then. But being older, I appreciate it for what it is. Especially “The Horror”. Not WASP’s best, but certainly under-appreciated for the time.
Agreed! It's real dark & just brutally honest. I'd like to add, that both Blackie & Chris went through heavy personal relationship issues before/during/after the making of this record, and i think it really shows! 😈 It's really up there with my favorite WASP records.
I could not listen to this album when came out,i hated it but years later when I thought to give another try on listening to it once more,I realized how great album it was,I love KFD,one of the best album of all time for me.Don’t like industrial metal and the likes. This album has so me industrial elements in it but it fits perfectly in this album with the catchy heavy metal of WASP.
@@renatohebeja2665 It's so damn good. I think a big part is because one can hear it's real hate. Particularly Blackie & Chris went through dark personal things when this was made, and it just oozes of raw dark emotions 🔥 The moving into dark industrial territory while still sounding like WASP is so mind-blowingly well done.
@@patska78 true,as much as I hated it when first listened to it in 2003,14 years old ,being a hard rock heavy metal fan,as much I loved it when listened once more a couple of years later and listened to it over and over again. The best mix industrial in heavy metal, even though I don’t like industrial,Nu metal and the likes.I am a classic heavy metal fan mostly 80s including the heavy side of the so called Glam Metal Scene like Ratt,Skid Row,Doklen,Whitesnake,Etc.
Thank you so much for finally doing the most underrated band in the world. Blackie Lawless is the best metal singer ever and doesn't get the credit he deserves. Cheers from Australia.
Thank you WASP for the beatiful moments i have to remember. Im 50 years old and im still listen WASP . I wish to be 80 years old and have the power of Blackie.
I caught Metal Church at a festival a few years back, right after they got their original singer back for an album and tour. They seemed to really enjoy playing live, even on a mid-afternoon set. Great set, too.
Headless Children was my first WASP LP. Bought it in a record store. I was fascinated by the cover first, but a friend of me came into the store and said that this album is killer. I remember when I came home and put it on the record player and then this tremendous intro startet. I still have goosebumps when I start listening to it today.
let's remember Baylon and Golgotha are written and played by a man in his 60s.. just listen to it and think about it . I think these 2 are monster recordings
Just saw them live on 17th of May. One of the best shows I've seen although the crowd was small. Also got a pick from Doug and Blackie. A friend got a stick from Aquiles. Fantastic show! Great voice!
Great documentary. WASP was my favourite band when I was a teenager. Blackie Lawless is such an underrated songwriter and musician. W.A.S.P. was definitely different than a lot of the bands from that era and I’m not knocking any of them, but they were truly different than what people call the “hair, metal bands“.
I was never a HUGE W.A.S.P fan even in their 80’s hey day, I was more a passive listener, I didn’t dislike the band, (until KFD), but I respected them and would happily listen if a DJ played them or they came on the radio. However, I have to say this, show me another vocalist, alive today, whose voice has stood the test of time and is just as strong today as it was 40 years ago other than Blackie Lawless. I can’t think of one.
@@holydiver73 Haha, sorry buddy! lol I knew what you were saying, a lot of our heroes are getting older and can't hit the notes like they used too. Hughes is a freak of nature, going on 50+ years... insane. Blackie sounds like Blackie, that's for sure, the last time I heard Sebastian Bach, he could still sing but it's been a few years since I've heard him as well.
@@Drumdude74 the saddest one by a country mile is the legend that was Don Dokken. It literally breaks my heart to hear him now, given how great and soulful and melodic his voice once was.
@@holydiver73 Yes Don was really good, it's a shame how time takes that ability from most over the years, Coverdale was a great soulful bluesy hard rock singer but time has caught up to him to, unfortunately He's not awful but it's not nearly what he once was..
Dude, this video was awesome. It really was. I always like Wasp, specially the 80´s and the 90´s era. I´m 49 and that says it all. Great great stuff. Keep on doing it. See you in the next one
This group rocked seriously. Blackie is hilarious. He sounds a lot like Gene Simmons and Dio when he gives his opinion about things. Not a stupid man. Love Chris Holmes guitar the best. It was the sound. First album kicks ass over all the others.
This band is unique in the world. A musical jewel and the pride of heavy metal. The band manages to make us feel the violent emotion of heavy metal and expose our minds in a wild sense. The real man as nature create it. I heard it for the first time on a local rock radio in São Paulo, Brazil in 1993, since then until today the songs are like jewels. The first time in 1993 I heard it I spent weeks trying to find the name of the band, at the time there was no Internet, I went to a local rock merchandise store and found out the name of the band. I bought a vinyl record right away. THANK YOU W.A.S.P. I really think that W.A.S.P deserve to be recognize, something like literature Nobel prize.
Fun fact: there was a music video for one of the songs from their 1993 compilation album "First Blood, last cuts" called "Sunset And Babylon" which is about places on the sunset strip such as the rainbow bar and grill. Underrated song.
For some reason I never got into them till I was in my forties, I loved metal growing up especially Danzig, Ozzy, skid row, megadeth etc… Wild Child is amazing he sounds so hot, incredible voice.
I was hooked as soon as I heard the drum fill that starts I Wanna Be Somebody. Loved everything that they were putting out in the 80’s and 90’s. Life situations kept me from keeping up with the band for a number of years but once I caught up with the releases in the 2000’s, I like them just as much. The whole catalogue is great.
@@FearCruser Yes of course, I'm talking about the wider population that aren't really into heavy metal even though I love them so much, I wish W.A.S.P. was heard by a wider audience as their an amazing band.
Love W.a.s.p, so many great albums, the first album, The Headless Children, The Crimson Idol, etc, etc. These guys are genius, and their first season during the 1980's was insane, drugs, party, and great music. Gotta love W.a.s.p
such songs and such bands can not ever exist again in this day and age. this is what the core essence of the 80's really is. something with a soul...... this is the stuff of legends
Great job! WASP was the real deal, and Blackie's vocals were exceptional. Headless Children was so amazing, I thought the band might transcend the hair mental scene that was coming to an end at the time. In the mid 90's Blackie was reduced to sitting alone in a corner at The Rainbow most nights, unapproachable and lonely. I always found that very sad. The band, and Blackie, deserved much better.
After the way he screwed his best band mate out of royalties, took an absolute killer band and turned it into the ‘Blackie Lawless ego show’, he deserved to sit in that corner alone. W.A.S.P. was badass back in the day and Blackie just couldn’t share it with anyone. He had to control everything and that control bought his seat in that corner, as you put it. You can only screw over your friends and band mate’s so many times and you may end up with money, but you may also end up unapproachable and lonely. I don’t think it’s sad at all. He earned it being a selfish asshole and shitting on Chris time and time again publicly. He used Chris to attract fans back and then once again shit all over him again. I owned around 60 W.A.S.P. Albums and import singles back in the day. I was a true fan, but Blackie ruined it. It really sucks too because they had a momentum going and his ego just train wrecked it all. This new tour is going to fail as well. It will sell tickets to diehards and the curious, but let’s be real, he can’t bring it back like he says he’s going too. No Randy, No Chris, No Tony or Stephen he’s got a cover band with a rehashed old idea. Personally with all he did to Chris I hope Blackie falls flat on his face and crawls back underneath whatever rock he’s been hiding under, right where a f**king snake belongs! Get well Chris Holmes!!!
Also forgot to mention the "harder faster"song on the first live album which dont exist on any studio album...it was like like a protest song to the PMRC...
Such an underrated band. Great hard and heavy rock 'n' roll with catchy hooks. I always enjoyed watching Blackie Lawless interviews back in the 80s too - a highly intelligent man, also not given the credit for his fantasatic vocals.
WASP is probably my favorite of the bands this channel has covered. Although I really like Ratt and Skid Row too. This was my favorite of these videos. This channel has kept me occupied while I've been home sick the past couple days. Thank you sir.
Love this channel, just need a new video everyweek!!! Impressive work..thks from all the metalhead who was already here beginning of the 80's. Cheers bro
I literally bumped into Blackie, Chris and Johnny in the late 80s the day after their Headless Children tour in Manchester. We chatted for a good fifteen minutes and they were cool AF Unfortunately it was pre-mobile phone days so didn’t get a photo but wow, what a mind blowing experience for a 15 year old :-) Watched them on the anniversary tour a few years back and cannot wait for them to return to the UK next March
That’s awesome. That would have been a good time to meet them too I’ll bet, having just put out a great record and before Chris left. I got to meet and chat with Frankie Banali at a Quiet Riot show around 2004 and he was super cool too. Kevin DuBrow was there and Frankie was like, “oh just excuse Kevin, he never talks” haha
Lots of great tracks up to and including Crimson... Then went weird for the rest of Blackies wasp thing. Kind of like Metallica up to justice, then went weird / right turn clyde..
KFD is my third favorite Wasp album. I don't think its an album that anyone can truly understand unless they're in that sort of a dark, hostile, hurt and angry kind of a place. Songs like "Take The Addiction", "U" and "Kill Your Pretty Face" are definitely songs that have a deep connection with me. I wish it didn't have that dated 90s mix on it and was more of a heavy kind of a thing but oh well lol.
My favorite WASP album (even with Crimson Idol coming in a close 2nd) is the Headless Children. It spoke to me when I first bought the cassette. It was, and still is, a masterpiece. I wasn't really into the band before The Headless Children. I don't really know why (because the Filthy 15 was my go-to list for metal... having turned me on to Mercyful Fate... heheh.)
I will never forget going to the local music store (must have been 1986 - 1987) and flipping through vinyl and stumbling across the album cover for "The Last Command". For some reason that sleeve and liner notes within just screamed "BUY ME!!!". I had never heard any of their music. But I knew of them because of the stuff that got talked about during the whole PMRC bullshit. To this day I still have that vinyl in my collection. Still my all time favorite W.A.S.P. album. And at least once a month it gets thrown onto the turntable for a listen. Wild Child in my opinion is still their best song ever written.
"The Headless Children" is a masterpiece. It saved WASP from the cultural shift of the 90s that other Glam/Hair bands couldn't. And one of the greatest concept albums of all time as a follow up in "The Crimson Idol" helped too. "The Headless Children" also featured arguably the greatest drummer W.A.S.P has ever had on the record in Frankie Banali who was good friends with Blackie. RIP Frankie
Your channel should become mandatory at every school :D Keep up the good work, I'm 44 now and it's fantastic to rediscover the old bands. Thank you so much
Even though my preference is death or thrash metal - I have always loved WASP, always loved Blackies rasp voice. Really cool video. Thank you for making this!
Your narration of the videos makes me laugh. When you describe it, it all seems so silly - yet also fun. There will never be another decade like the 80s.
awesome episode - Inside the Electric Circus was in my first Columbia House cassette order when I was 12 - loved it then and still do! Looking forward to checking out all the follow-ups I missed.
I guess it's never too late but... even though your'e probably young , and i'm 49 and i was like 12 or 13 when i discovered them , i will say this Discovering W.A.S.P. Back then and now is a completely different experience Back then... it's the rise of Metal, Disco has just passed out, Rap is around and getting bigger, Pop is sort of around but not hard enough to be a permanent solution. The world had never had anything seen anything like this before and , oh let's not forget that black hatred was at an all time high (and yes. it's relevant) Metal is unleashed onto the world in a big way , Bands who were broke and desperate started coming out of L.A. like no one's business and it was a fight of ... if you want to make it you had to be good and competition was high Compared to you discovering it today ....... It's all out, there is no competition, you don't really need to try hard then ...... Our music was a double edged sword, on one hand it was fucking awesome on the other hand we were labelled by our parents to be worshipping satan, we were made to feel as if we did something wrong because we had a walkman and a tape Oh thats another thing...... You probably downloaded it we had a BMX Bike, A walkman and a tape (those who went through this will understand) it's about the time we grew up in and the atmosphere of racism at the time combined with the usual growing pains as well as the mentality of the adults at the time and the lack of acceptance of the world towards you You live in a world that is so accepting that having "No specified gender" On a legal form is a real thing and then ... amidst all that , Now 2 other big things happen PMRC comes out and tries to kill Heavy metal , Not realizing it can't be killed and then we have the fucking new wave of british heavy metal which acts as a second wind for metal in short, it was an indescribable experience mate so like i said, it cannot be the same as it once was but..... Better late than never maybe this gives you some sort of insight as to what we went through
I just discovered your channel after seeing W.A.S.P. again, Nov. 2022. I first saw them in Feb. 1985 and a few times since. Love them and your assessment of their albums! 🤩 🤘
Been a fan of WASP since 2019, especially the energy in the first 4 albums. Mean man, Wild Child, Rebel in the FDG... Babylon and Golgotha are also both incredible even with Holms's guitar missing. Can't wait to see 'em live in -23!
This was my error. Oooooo my gosh I was in 7th Grey junior high and I’m telling you right now. I absolutely love this band and 52 today and I still love them and they’re still producing music.
My absolute favorite band of all time, their album “The Crimson Idol” was the first album that ever related to me and one of the 2 albums to ever make me cry (the other being Alice In Chain’s “Jar Of Flies”)
Had a poster of Blackie drinking blood out of a skull on my wall as a young teen. WASP are legends! I love the Flame. Blind in Texas is such a banger and the video is pure fun. More than anything Blackie, like Dee Snider, took on the PMRC full tilt.
I remember being in the record store and seeing that first album cover and frankly it scared me. I avoided buying it. Half a year later my roommate in college asked if I'd heard Fuck Like A Beast. Outrageous... Being in a religious college it wasn't something we "should" be listening to. But he played it anyway. And I was hooked. To this day, I have all their albums... Even a clear red vinyl 33. 3 single of "Fuck Like A Beast".... Scared..... Pffft! Once again you've brought the goods, Metal School. Thank you! LONG LIVE BLACKIE !!!

All members of WASP are awesome players, awesome at putting on kick-ass shows and they're also completely CRAZY!😂 I love this band so much!
I really love Blackie's voice. Lots of great songs. But the song Love Machine is where he hits notes few others can reach.
@@stanleybroniszewsky8538 That's true! Love machine is a great song!
I wish to be 80 years old and have the power of Blackie.
love wasp, never a sellout band, another Underrated band from that same era is Metal Church..the lead singer has some scream also!
I caught Metal Church at a festival a few years back, right after they got their original singer back for an album and tour. They seemed to really enjoy playing live, even on a mid-afternoon set. Great set, too.
Fabulous band
Blackie writes great songs.
Met him once , backstage at Donnington monsters of rock, really nice guy .🤘
Headless Children was my first WASP LP. Bought it in a record store. I was fascinated by the cover first, but a friend of me came into the store and said that this album is killer. I remember when I came home and put it on the record player and then this tremendous intro startet. I still have goosebumps when I start listening to it today.
let's remember Baylon and Golgotha are written and played by a man in his 60s.. just listen to it and think about it . I think these 2 are monster recordings
Blackie lawless is the law!!!! W.a.s.p is my workout fuel so many good songs by wasp never gets old been listening to them on repeat 5 years
Just saw them live on 17th of May.
Great band. Love Blackie's raw and powerfull voice. Saw them in România. Awesome video, dude. 🤘🏻🤠🚬
Bine de stiut ca sunt si romani care ii asculta🤘🏻
W.A.S.P. RULES!! Nuff said!! Blackie’s voice is like a fifth instrument! He could sing the alphabet and I’d buy it! Thank you for this video!!
You're my Netflix. Thanks a lot for all of this content!
🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️
I still listen to the first album on a consistent basis. All the tracks are great!!!!
Same here! One of the best albums EVER!
Early era WASP was great rockin party music while the later Crimson Idol era was on another level. Still love Blackies voice and WASP.
Glenn Hughes
@@Drumdude74 ok smart arse I’ll give you that one. 😂😂 another one besides Blackie and Glenn Hughes 😂😂👍🏻👍🏻
🤘🏻🤘🏻
The Crimson Idol is one of my all time favorite albums. I can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it.
I never heard WASP until now - I don't understand why they weren't much bigger than they were. They rocked.
Truly an extremely talented band, very underrated too. Love them so much, even with all the different lineup's. ❤️🤘
Underrated?! You must be kidding…
@@FearCruser No, definitely not, they deserve way more attention, their music needs to be heard by the wider population because of how good it is.
@@robertobuatti7226 like anyone who’s into heavy metal deeper then Iron Maiden, Judas priest level knows about WASP.
@@FearCruser Yes of course, I'm talking about the wider population that aren't really into heavy metal even though I love them so much, I wish W.A.S.P. was heard by a wider audience as their an amazing band.
@@robertobuatti7226
I agree. WASP should've been bigger than they are.
Never understood why ppl hate on WASP, they're one of the dopest hair metal bands ever!
Dude, Let me just say you do the best Retrospectives on You tube🤘
🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️
One of the bands that made the 80s rock and metal so great. Love it.
This voice ! this guitars ! this drums ! My youth...
Holymoly! All these years I didn't know two of my absolute favorites, Ken Hensley (Uriah Heep) and WASP collaborated almost a whole album! 🤟🔥
WASP is probably my favorite of the bands this channel has covered. Although I really like Ratt and Skid Row too. This was my favorite of these videos. This channel has kept me occupied while I've been home sick the past couple days. Thank you sir.
My all time favourite band...just love listening to all songs..the voice is catchy...long live WASP
One of my favorite bands! W.A.S.P. FOREVER
In the video Blind in Texas its cool how they made the ZZ TOP reference
Inside the Electric Circus was one of my fave tours ever. I didn't hurt to also have Raven and Slayer on the bill. One of the best shows I ever saw!!!
Yes been waiting for this one for ever good old Blackie thank you for giving these awesome dudes their due
Couldn’t get enough when I was 15 I’m 54 now still cool
They opened for Black Sabbath in Toronto in 1984. What a party.
Love this channel, just need a new video everyweek!!! Impressive work..thks from all the metalhead who was already here beginning of the 80's. Cheers bro
I literally bumped into Blackie, Chris and Johnny in the late 80s the day after their Headless Children tour in Manchester.
We chatted for a good fifteen minutes and they were cool AF
Unfortunately it was pre-mobile phone days so didn’t get a photo but wow, what a mind blowing experience for a 15 year old :-)
Watched them on the anniversary tour a few years back and cannot wait for them to return to the UK next March
Live in the Raw one of my best live albums ever! I don't understand why WASP don't get the same fame and publicity as other bands of that era.
W.A.S.P is one of the most underrated bands to ever walk the earth.
The Crimson Idol will forever be my favourite album.
The best Release in my opinion is "Live in the raw". Great atmosphere When you're listening to it.
FUCKIN' RIGHTS! This band kicked ass when I first heard them and continues to do so every time I listen to one of their songs!
My favorite WASP album (even with Crimson Idol coming in a close 2nd) is the Headless Children. It spoke to me when I first bought the cassette. It was, and still is, a masterpiece. I wasn't really into the band before The Headless Children. I don't really know why (because the Filthy 15 was my go-to list for metal... having turned me on to Mercyful Fate... heheh.)
Thanks for putting this doc together. Headless Children is a masterpiece.
KFD was the only album that didn't sound exactly the same after the first 5. That has to be my favorite after the first 5.
RIP Frankie
I met Frankie at a Quiet Riot show once back in like 2002. He was so freaking friendly. Incredibly nice
@@MetalSchoolChannel That's so nice to know. Headless Children was my intro into WASP's music.
Chris Holmes was a prime ingredient for WASP. He didn't get the respect he deserved.
Your channel should become mandatory at every school :D
Keep up the good work, I'm 44 now and it's fantastic to rediscover the old bands. Thank you so much
Even though my preference is death or thrash metal - I have always loved WASP, always loved Blackies rasp voice. Really cool video. Thank you for making this!
As another person who preferred thrash/speed metal in the 80s, WASP managed to also grab my attention.
I really enjoyed your documentary. Been playing the 1st WASP album alot lately. It loses NOTHING over time. Still as great as ever.....
Excellent video about an excellent band. It strikes me how different Blackie is in the interviews compared to the image they created around the band.
Your narration of the videos makes me laugh. When you describe it, it all seems so silly - yet also fun. There will never be another decade like the 80s.
Chris back in the day caught my attention as a kid,, Great guitarist.
awesome episode - Inside the Electric Circus was in my first Columbia House cassette order when I was 12 - loved it then and still do! Looking forward to checking out all the follow-ups I missed.
I just wanna say these videos are freaking amazing!, ive started listening to so many bands from these videos!!!
When I first saw the video I wanna be somebody on headbanger's ball I instantly fell in love with this band, W.A.S.P. is awesome 👍😎
I'm ashamed that I discovered this band justa few years ago. Hit after hit IMO
You must be young 😉😉😉😉 I heard them since I was fourteen now I am fifty two and I still love their music

I know right
I guess it's never too late
but... even though your'e probably young , and i'm 49 and i was like 12 or 13 when i discovered them , i will say this
Discovering W.A.S.P. Back then and now is a completely different experience
Back then... it's the rise of Metal, Disco has just passed out, Rap is around and getting bigger, Pop is sort of around but not hard enough to be a permanent solution.
The world had never had anything seen anything like this before and , oh let's not forget that black hatred was at an all time high (and yes. it's relevant)
Metal is unleashed onto the world in a big way , Bands who were broke and desperate started coming out of L.A. like no one's business and it was a fight of ... if you want to make it you had to be good and competition was high
Compared to you discovering it today .......
It's all out, there is no competition, you don't really need to try hard
then ...... Our music was a double edged sword, on one hand it was fucking awesome
on the other hand we were labelled by our parents to be worshipping satan, we were made to feel as if we did something wrong because we had a walkman and a tape
Oh thats another thing...... You probably downloaded it
we had a BMX Bike, A walkman and a tape (those who went through this will understand)
it's about the time we grew up in and the atmosphere of racism at the time combined with the usual growing pains as well as the mentality of the adults at the time and the lack of acceptance of the world towards you
You live in a world that is so accepting that having "No specified gender" On a legal form is a real thing
and then ... amidst all that , Now 2 other big things happen
PMRC comes out and tries to kill Heavy metal , Not realizing it can't be killed
and then we have the fucking new wave of british heavy metal which acts as a second wind for metal
in short, it was an indescribable experience mate
so like i said, it cannot be the same as it once was
but..... Better late than never
maybe this gives you some sort of insight as to what we went through
I just discovered your channel after seeing W.A.S.P. again, Nov.
Amen, brother 🥺
Had a poster of Blackie drinking blood out of a skull on my wall as a young teen. WASP are legends! I love the Flame. Blind in Texas is such a banger and the video is pure fun. More than anything Blackie, like Dee Snider, took on the PMRC full tilt.
Thanks again for your awesome work. For myself "Dominator" is an incredible album and the voice of Blackie is absolutely unique.
I think fans as well as blackie are quite happy with
the gang (line up) on the last four albums.
Blackie found new bob kulick in doug blair.
