When he finished school he moved to London for college and then started his first job that he worked at for a few years until he met an American woman (my mom) and moved to the states. Then sauté those briefly in butter with some finely diced onion, season with a bit of salt. (They don’t take long because they’re so thin, so err on the side of undercooking them!) Back when I used to babysit my nephew, this was his favorite thing I cooked. It didn’t matter how much I made, we always finished it because they’re so good. I once made over a kilo of carrots this way, for just the two or use, and we still ate them all!

There's actually a shop in Michigan called Cops & Donuts 🍩 lol the signs crack me up every time I see them
Also, donuts were often incredibly stale by that point in the night, which is why in some older stuff you'll see cops dunk the donut in the coffee.
