There is not a single media remote, not even the discontinued official one that is not IR. Microsoft should step up and add support for them.
I would still choose this over the official. I really like the official, but with so many apps needing abxy, it's useless for most apps. Pdp was really close, but missing the tv guide button for a dedicated app. This is the best option on xbox for small remotes. Pdp and 8bitdo is the same for the large remote. That choice is preferred by person.
one of the best reviews I've ever seen. straightforward, helpful points with a bit of dry humor, good volume balance, no obnoxious music, and short. I appreciate that you even pointed out textures. and thinking of how elderly friendly it is was a good perspective to offer. keep up the good work ✔️
I don't think it was 8bitdo's fault for the infrared. For some reason microsoft has never supported bluetooth for their consoles.
They also don't let anyone use their 2.4Ghz Xbox Wireless protocol.
The Xbox remotes are IR because a lot of them also work with your TV & cable boxes which was one of the pitches when the xbox one was initially released, being the center of entertainment in the living room. Bluetooth would also kill the batteies faster needing replacements more often. IIRC tho there are remotes on the market that sync with the xbox the same as a controller.
Thank you! As I don’t have my Xbox in the same room (it’s in the walk in closet behind the tv) this a HARD pass for me. Would have to make a window for it😅
The remote using IR can actually be beneficial as you don't need to pair it to a specific console.
I think IR is a good thing, it allows xbox to sleep at the lowest power mode saving electricity while at the the same time turn on from the remote
Good review of the 8bitdo's media remote, but I'd much rather know about the structure of its buttons, specifically: how easy are they to press? Because that's a major issue with the "officially licensed" PDP model, the membrane on its arrow keys is uncomfortably tough, you can imagine what a hassle it is to move around a virtual keyboard with the thing.
So long as the buttons are good, then I'm good, IR sensor be damned.
The Xbox button feels cheap and it doesn't light up. But it's sticky feeling. I got it on sale on Amazon for $15. Overall it's a great option. I use Kinect on my Xbox One X, so the infrared issues isn't a problem, since the Kinect also functions as an infrared extender...
Cool what remote would you recommend that is Bluetooth compatible with Xbox? Oh, you just reference Nvidia shields remote for no reason? Nice
thank you for this. I think I'll get it
Ive been using the small Xbox One media remote for like 5 years now. I recently upgraded to a Series S and decied to get a new media remote along with it. I went with the Pdp one and I hate it. The mapping of the buttons is weird and its thrown me off. Anyone have any other recommendations? And why doesnt Microsoft make their own media remote?
I'm with ya, there. The mapping doesn't bother me, but the strength required to press any button on it requires the Power of Gray Skull! Such a dumb decision to use this uber punch-resistant membrane as the base of your media remote...
Does the volume work with hdmi cec compatible TVs? I have the PDP from the last gen Xbox and it worked with that but not with the Series S.
I have both the remote he is talking about and the discontinued official xbox media remote but neither of them controls my tv volume on my Series S while they do on my One X.
not sure why, and I do have hdmi cec turned on on my tv.
Also the 8bitdo one drains batteries really fast, the sensors it has for motion are way too sensitive, even just walking by the table where it’s placed turns the backlight on.
Hope this helps you.
@@LPvi1 on my series s I had to enable cec on my TV and enable a setting on my Xbox itself.
@@porpoision i’ll check then. Thanks for the info!
Will the volume buttons adjust sound bar volume of it is connected to the back of my Xbox with the optical sound port

Can you control tv with the long white remote?
Is it backlit?
Can it wake device on?
Xbox doesn't have Bluetooth
Como no? Los mandos son bluetooth. Funcionan en android, pc etc.
@@Pablo-zl9zr Xbox consoles use a proprietary connection method, not Bluetooth
@@Brebgon no? Y como funcionan en android x bluetooth entonces?
@@Pablo-zl9zr Only the controllers have Bluetooth included
@@Brebgon oh claro. Saludos.
What a joke, people under age 30 are stupid. Pretending like having to have line of sight with your television is unreasonable is nonsense. Sure, you can find some test case where other wireless connection formats is better suited, but don't you all understand that to use Bluetooth or any of these standards you have to pay those organizations a licensing fee? Ever wonder shy the original Xbox had to charge for dvd playback? Ever wonder why PlayStation and Xbox wireless remotes never go below 30 dollars? It's not because the materials are expensive, it's the licensing fees to the wireless AND haptic patent owners. Of course anyone less than 30 doesn't bother to research any of that, do any hard work. They just sit and complain about nonsense. Also, IR doesn't consume as much battery as other standards as it doesn't have to maintain a continuous connection. But let's just destroy the planets lithium so that we don't have to move our hand out from under a blanket.
Okay boomer 🤡
😂😂
Thats what makes his drawback so hilarious because it has nothing to do with 8bitdo. Xbox does not support bluetooth they use an unique proprietary wireless frequency that is lower latency and better sound quality. IR is the only way they allow media remotes to work on their consoles
I'm not saying I dispute any of what you're saying, but your diatribe has a whole vibe of, "old man yelling at a cloud," about it.
