The best pierogi are with meat or cabbage mixed with mushrooms and poured with oil on which onion was glazed. Guarantee best flavours. For a desert best are pierogi with blueberries 🫐 and poured with sweet cream.

Warszawa was totally destroid during WW2 do all what you saw was rebuild. Kraków survived WW2 and most od the buildings, monument, churches etc are oryginal. I'm from Kraków and a visit to Auschwitz was na important point during education in primary school. It's very painfull to hear a fraze "polish concentraction camp" in media. Auschwitz is a german word for the place they have created during ocupation of PL. Salt Mine in Wieliczka is one of the best places to visit! PL is a strong country and if the war don't come to us or EU don't stop us with new regulations or our politicians don't ruin everything then we have some chance to become what they call a super power.
It was a statue of a mermaid (the emblem of Warsaw) on the New Town Square.

I come from Poland (used to live in Warsaw, visited Kraków). I live in the UK (previously Nottingham and now Bristol), and I agree 100% what you've said about cities in the two mentioned countries. I really feel depressed in the UK most of the time, so I hope to move to Spain in the nearest future.
The Wieliczka Salt Mine, which is listed at the UNESCO List of World's Cultural Heritage sites, is a must-see. It's very close to Cracow, an old historical town, that used to be a former capital and a royal seat - for sure, every tourist must visit Cracow. In Warsaw there's also much to see, like the Old Town, Royal Castle, Wilanów Royal Palace, Łazienki Royal Park, and the Museum of the Warsaw Uprising (it's worth seeing). Many tourists visit also Gdańsk or Wrocław. The Jasna Góra Monastery in Częstochowa is also worth seeing, it's a very important place, not only because of religion, but also it's a important cultural heritage and historic place.

Yes, at school we visit the Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau. They offer also 6 hours long study tours with a guide in English. I was at such study tour few years ago with some foreign guests. I think that everyone should go for such a longer visit at least once. And one should also remember that Auschwitz-Birkenau was only one of many such German mass death concentration camps. There were also many others, like Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Ravensbrueck, Mauthausen, Bergen-Belsen, Majdanek, Bełżec, Sobibór, Treblinka, Gross-Rosen and many others. There was also a concentration camp only for Polish children in Łódź - Litzmannstadt Konzentrationslager für Polnische Kinder. But after the war only in Auschwitz such full-scale museum was established, to remember what Germans did then and so that it doesn't come back. In all these concentration camps not only Jewish, but also Polish people were murdered - Polish was the second nation, after the Jews, with the greatest number of victims imprisoned and murdered in German concentration camps, including Auschwitz.

This statue is Mermaid named Sawa - symbole of Warsaw. In Poland we have legend about men named Wars who fall in love with Mermaid named Sawa (Warsaw - Warszawa)
You know that the Royal Castle is as old as I am? almost 50. It was reconstructed in 70' - 80'
You need to go to Poland...take a flight, presume from Edinburgh or Glasgow (plenty of cheap options with Wizz, EasyJet or Ryanair and explore)...can guarantee You'll love it

The statue is a symbol of Warsaw - Warsaw Mermaid. Nowy Świat is probably the most expensive street in Poland. Together with Krakowskie Przedmieście makes really touristic long street with many restaurants, cafes, churches, monuments, shops etc. The stadium at the and it is National Stadium in Warsaw built for Euro 2012.
While Warsaw is the capital and the business centre. Kraków is the old, royal capital, spared war destruction, stiped in tradition and memory. Krakowians still resent Warsaw, that they lost the capital prestige 400 years ago.
Kraków is the only city in Poland worthy of being the capital of Poland. But I’m glad that the politicians now reside in Warsaw. Good riddance.
Where did you take that information from? I live in Cracow for over 30 years and haven't heard a single person saying that they are unhappy that the capitol was moved...
@@karos6744 That was my experience when I was growing up. Glad to hear that after 400 years Cracovians found peace. Anyway; Kraków is worthy of a royal rule. What is happening in politic now is a doubtful distinction!

In a typical year the temperature drops below -20C only on a couple of nights. It’s not unusual though for it to fall to -10C every night for several weeks. Depends where you are of course: it’s colder in the East.

Poles are a nation that can argue and disagree among themselves, but there is one thing that unites us... it is tragedy or danger. Then Poles are an unstoppable force. The war in Ukraine caused Poles to join the army or territorial troops. Poland is strong, when bad things happen, it unites us, wars, the death of the Pope, the Smolensk disaster, etc.
Speak for yourself. Most of them are young people who think that war is like computer games. Generally, Poles do not want to fight, nor do they want any war, politicians and the EU want war. There are always those who earned a lot of money in war. It's good to fight with other people's hands, while sending your children far away, where they are safe.
I prefer Polish dumplings not fried, but boiled in water - served for instance with onion browned on butter or pork lard (with greaves), or with sour cream (if these are dumplings with fruits). Traditionally they are rather boiled, not fried.

Hi Mert, I don't think that Poland can surpass the UK in terms of GDP per capita by 2030. Certainly it have a chance to get closer to the UK level.
Krakow vs Warsaw is like Edinburgh vs London. Quite different, which is better to visit? Depends on what you prefer.
Pretty fair to compare Kraków and Edinburgh. They’re of roughly the same size and cultural importance. But London is VERY different from Warsaw. It’s far larger and has roughly four times the population and has significantly more going on. I’d say Warsaw was more like Glasgow.

Investments in the military are big indeed (3-4% of GDP), however, it's more in equipment. Don't believe in the 300k Polish army. Polish military consists of approx. 115k professional soldiers + 36k territorial/volunteer army. I don't see growing interest in a career in the army, however I might be mistaken here. Considering the low birth rate I doubt we would ever reach 300k armed forces unless compulsory military service shall be reinstalled (it was abolished in 2008).

@MertPol I am living in Highland of Scotland 21 years I am Originally From Warsaw Mokotow district . Regarding Army question , I feel that good they increase the army numbers , I was one of the last years that was call in for Nation Service , the last year of National service was 2008 and they decided to made army a "Job" I am not saying that bad but Poland went from 500000 active and 1,2 Million in reserve to barely 180000 in just one year , and with current state of Putin Brain deficiency its safer to have large and capable army .
Military is important for every single Polish citizen because of always returning problems with neighbours
A strong, safe state is attractive to investors. We have already proven economically that we are developing, and we know how to do it. We have a very low crime rate. but we lack strength. we want to bring more corporations to Poland. Raise your level of competitiveness. We don't want any event in the Czech Republic or Lithuania to affect our stock market. The war in Ukraine showed us that investors need certainty that no one will attack Poland militarily. That's why we agree on building an army that simply scares away with its power and possibilities. We know that hospitals, schools and other matters have dropped a step in the value pyramid. There are important and more important matters. we just act. we don't speculate, we don't confuse, we don't debate, we act.

I have never been in Auschwitz. I saw many videos and even today I have been at the cinema and watched the movie "The Zone of Interest", where some scenes were shoot in that museum. Horrible view. I don't think so if I am ready to visit Auschwitz. But some 10 years ago I was in Majdanek and it also was sad view.

1. If I were to recommend any city in Poland that you would visit, I would recommend Wrocław. Krakow and Warsaw are simply snobbish cities nowadays, where the focus is on tourists' money instead of truly Polish experiences :D Wrocław is 100,000 times more beautiful than Warsaw and Krakow and, additionally, in the center of Wrocław, everything is close, so close that you can walk simply.
2. When it comes to Auschwitz, I believe that every person in the world should visit this place. This is a place that completely changes your worldview and the way you look at conflicts in the world. Regarding your question, most kids in Poland learn about Auschwitz, but the trips depend on how rich the local governments and schools the children go to are.
The attitude of your country men towards army service would be different if you had an existential threat.
My cousin from the States made only half way in Auschwitz. He turned around and run crying after seeing what germans did to the prisoners.
Where Warsaw is the biggest and modern, Kraków is the most polish. We should take back the capital title >:(

As for military spending, it is high, currently the largest in Europe, but isn't it too high? Our Minister of Foreign Affairs answered this question very well, he said that we would rather eat grass than let Russia take over our country again.

300.000 armia to plan. Będzie bardzo trudno to osiągnąć, a jeszcze trudniej to utrzymać. Politycy mają tendencję do kreowania nieistniejącej rzeczywistości. Jeszcze daleko do osiągnięcia takiej liczebności.
Wydatki 2-4%. Tak ale ... zakupione uzbrojenie w ogromnej części jeszcze "w drodze". Zakupy kontrowersyjne, ze względu na chaotyczne decyzje. Zbyt małe inwestycje w krajowy przemysł obronny. Złe zarządzanie państwowymi firmami zbrojeniowymi. Rozumiem potrzebę zbrojenia Polski, ale obawiam się problemów ze spłatą zadłużenia z tym związanego.
Oprócz suchych liczb (wielkość armii, wydatki na wojsko) ważne jest zarządzanie taką strukturą, a z tym nie jest najlepiej. Boję się, że nie wiemy wszystkiego. Boję się, że oficjalne informacje dotyczące naszej obronności, są po prostu elementem marketingu politycznego.
Ale może tylko narzekam, jak prawdziwy Polak 😀

I hate these types of movies. Poland is a typical European country. It has beautiful and dark sides. Good food, landscapes, monuments, hospitality are all true, but you may encounter unfavorable experiences. No one can say that in my country you will only meet nice people. In Europe we are considered racists. Maybe you'll get punched in the teeth and your wallet and cell phone will be stolen, but probably nothing more. I have nothing against Italians etc. However, I remember the story of a couple who went to Italy for an engagement and the fiancé was stabbed in front of his future fiancée, and while he was bleeding out, he saw Muslim attackers raping her. You won't experience this here. In our country, extremists are exterminated without the knowledge of the authorities. That's why we seem to be such a safe country. Are you Polish, Ukrainian, Syrian, Kazakh, Russian, Iranian, Vietnamese, Nigerian etc. You can take advantage of our hospitality, and we will be happy to accommodate you, but please adapt because we hammer in the protruding nails with a hammer. One word: Realpolitik. No country’s politics are perfect: they must suit the realities of the time.
There was no realistic way to come to Poland’s direct aid in 1939. The victory parade decision was an attempt to appease the Soviets at a time when tensions were mounting. Meanwhile, the UK Treasury was emptied by the war and heavily in debt to the USA - Poland was allowed to create its own independent armed forces in Britain on the understanding it would later contribute to the costs of the war.
