This is my reaction to 7 Misconceptions About Poland
In this video I react to an American discussing misconceptions that some people outside of Poland might have about Poland, Polish culture and Polish history.

Poland was communist by not choosing it, but by Soviet and by force and falsification elections and referendums in 1944-1950. Citizens had never accepted communist rule, but secret police (at a start right after a IIWW lots of them was russians which have been changing surnames into Polish-sounding ones) was held us by the muzzle. I stricly recomend book "I saw Poland betrayed" by Arthur Bliss Lane, ambassador of USA in Poland.

Poland has some different sub climates here. I live in the southwestern part which gets very dry and hot in the summer with hardly any rainfall. The area near Suwałki is much cooler and has much more rainfall during the year. It always rubs me the wrong way when I hear Poland is a cold country while I'm blasting my AC to survive over 2 weeks of 30C+ temperatures in the summer and have maybe one snowy day in the winter :).
Surprised by the "not dog friendly". We are def. very, very dog friendly :) Great video. Each time I bump onto your channel, I'm pleased people from other countries appreciate Poland. It is a beautiful place. Very rich in all one can think of - as said on the video - sea with wonderful beaches, breathtaking mountains, stunning forests, full of wild mushrooms and berries...Beautifuls parks in each and every city and town. Lots of history, i.e. from the WWII - bunkers [even in the middle of a large city], put into use, renovated. Tens of kilometers of tunnels, with bunkers, line, longer than the Maginot's one. Quite remarkable amount of B.C. pagan sculptures, also lots of medieval architecture. Food is wonderful - seasonality and abundance of veg & fruits that taste great [cannot say that about UK fruits, sadly], even potatoes have a richer flavor. Proper winters, although winters used to be on the minus [-15, -25C/13, -10F ]with more snow, nowadays milder, often grey. There is still pretty much a guarantee of snow in the mountains, though. Spring time - everything in bloom, smell of flowers, grasses, earth waking up from the winter sleep. Autumn - with it's rain, but also golden, sunny days, chestnuts falling from trees, Summer - proper heat, fresh strawberries sold by grannies on the corner, lake trips, bbq's in the wild, camping. Planning summer holidays may be a hit or miss, though, as we do get the rainy week here or there, that happens exactly on your holiday dates ;) Visit Poland. It is cheaper, too. For now...
Most important question: when host of this channel will visit Poland and will report back to us?

Toruń (the city mentioned in the 9th minute of the film) is historically associated primarily with Nicolaus Copernicus. Nowadays, it is a tourist city, which many Poles associate with politics, which I do not want to bore you with. It is worth seeing the ruins of the Teutonic castle, the Leaning Tower (it does not resemble the one in Pisa at all), and the house of Copernicus. The planetarium is worth visiting. After all, you must try the local gingerbread. Where can you get the best? Let someone who lives there tell you about it, but their gingerbreads are legendary all over Poland 😍
One of the misconceptions that annoys me terribly is when people from other countries compare Poland with Russia and say that they are practically the same thing.
This is quite annoying not only because of our painful history when it comes to Russia, but we also have different language, completely different culture, and Russia is not even that close to Poland on the map.
And still many times I've come across foreigners stating that if I'm from Poland then I'm practically a Russian ;/
You should say them that American and Mexican is also the same.
Great Britain, being an island, experiences a significant maritime influence that moderates its climate, leading to milder winters and cooler summers. Poland, being more inland, has a continental climate characterized by distinct four seasons, colder winters (not very cold though), and warmer summers. There is not much difference between the north and south, except for the more mountainous areas in the south.
Actually, there is a difference between the regions. Poland is divided into zones when it comes to building the foundations of the houses. While in Greater Poland the foundations can be built 80 cm below the ground, In the Suwalki region it must be done 180 cm below. It's due to the significantly stronger winters there. The foundations must always be built below the freezing zone. In the Zielona Gora region, the average temperature in January is higher than 0 C. It's like in Western Europe.

It's annoying how often foreigners who have never been there think about Poland and Poles. The weather in Poland is great because the country has 4 seasons. Spring - wonderful and warm, you will see how the country becomes beautifully green. Summer is so hot that you look for shelter from the sun, often with temperatures of +35C.Autumn is wonderfully colorful and warm. Winter is like winter, sometimes warmer, sometimes colder. The last few years have been warm. Yes, there are days like in Scotland, but only occasionally.
"The food is terrible"? nobody thinks that.
Oh, deciding they think so. We have a Polish man who came with his wife from Bali - she is just from Bali - they make videos on YT. She just recently said something about Polish food and used the word “bland”.
I understand that for people from Asian countries, where a lot of spices are used, including hot spices, our food can be bland.
But where such a belief in the world in general comes from I have no idea, because if they don't completely know what the weather is like in our country then how can they know what our dishes taste like. This opinion is probably also a relict from the communist era when, after all, we had nothing in the stores and even buying spices was a challenge.
@Rene_Moor3095 Well, I guess it's a little bit different in Europe. I've never heard something like this in Germany. They generally know that Polish food is good.

A misconception the ‘wall fall’ was triggered by solidarity in Poland, Soviet Union loss in Afganistan, the Pope, Reagan and US pressure and moves to fall communism through the 80’s
Poland has first semi-free elections in 1989, 04.06 and Berlin wall felt on 09.11 :) Those processes were really independed except the fact that Russia was weaker and could not do anything with what was happening. Polish democracy battle started from the end of WW2 but "Solidarność" was created in 1980.
You asked about the most beautiful beach in Poland. In my opinion, it is the beach in Dębki (Debki) (not to be confused with Dąbki ) near the town of Karwia. There you can swim in the sea, but also in the river Piaśnica, which flows into the Baltic sea.
It does get warmer faster (in the year) in the south than north. I hear about temps like 20C in the south, when in the north we have about 10-15C. As the summer progresses the temps are evening out somewhat. Also, there are "pockets" of cold- e.g. Gdynia is relatively warm, but Koleczkowo (a small town, with lakes, about 16km from Gdynia) gets temps drops, esp. in winter, or in spring/autumn mornings and evenings gets cold. I think we have weather like that in Chicago, for the most part (EDIT: but the summer started to reseamble Floridian summer, for several years).
You can bring your dog to most shopping malls, some require a muzzle, and some don't. I did bring my dog to Galeria Bałtycka and Alfa Centrum (both in Gdańsk). Alfa has a sign on the doors "bring your dog with you on your shopping" or something along this line. I was with my dog in Tchibo and Costa, the employees were always smiling and I had no problem, and the water was available for free for the dog. I only once couldn't bring my dog with me- to Galeria Klif in Gdynia (also Rossman and sometimes the food shops in the malls don't allow pets in, although I saw ppl with smaller dogs in their arms, so there's that).
I always asked when entering a specific shop (in the mall or another).
Chicago have got much freezeing winters with snow. Few years back we have a little snow in winter i nPoland, exept mountain regions in the south.
@@brca098 We had those types of winter regularlly till about 20-25years ago. I still remembor them. Now there is only a few days of them, few yesrs apart.
Bro, let me give you an example. I’ve been living in UK for the last 19 years. I’ve meet many people of different coutures and beliefs on my journey. Once I met this lady from Malawi and she told me that the polish pope wasn’t European becouse Poland wasn’t part of eu at that time. Didn’t know what to say to this accusation 😅

Not really anymore. Nowadays it's usually above zero degrees Celsius, with not much snow. Only few days are colder, definitely not like it used to be in the past.
Polish food in specific way resemble Italian. It use simple ingredients, but a lot of depend on the preparation.
Some things what sound bland or horrible by description, are absolutely tasty if properly made.
"Żubrówka" is a special kind of vodka, many people drink it with an apple juice (alhough I do not like any brand of vodka being a Pole) but you just must try a zapiekanka one day.
Placki are rather salty, naturally sweet and slightly sour, but hash browns has rather dry taste. You can eat placki with sugar or jam as well as with gravy or mushroom sauce, but hashbrowns don't go well with jam.

10:48 that is not true... there are A LOT of places where you not really "can't" but actually shouldn't take pets like e.g restaurants (what i mean is that nobody is gonna kick you out if you bring one, at least not that common, but people working there wouldn't want to deal with pets in restaurants plus people eating probably would want to eat in peace and not have a dog constantly barking etc)
why does everyone say that communism ended with the fall of the plague? in Poland there were free elections already in 1989 and it was in Poland that communism fell first

Fun fact about being pet friendly: normally when you want to move to Poland with a pet you have to provide proper documents that prove your pet is vaccinated for rabies but when russia invaded ukraine the government suspended that and made it possible for ukrainans to enter with their dogs, cats AND ferrets without those documents and get them from a vet in Poland. One gov official famously said that: "pets are family members, and we, (the government) cant imagine separating families. In times of war you should first worry about the safety and deal with the documents later"
Poland has four seasons, very clearly different.
5:30 Gennerally here's a difference in temperature in Poland between south-west of a country and going up in nort-east direction its getting colder, especially in winter. in summer those differencces are not so big, exept mayba a coastline in the north. But I think, it's cold waters of Baltic are determines a much colder climate in the summers and winters than climate in interior. But recently lots of tourist from South: Czechs, Hungarians, even Spanians I have met on the coast, in such virgin areas as rural Lubiatowo village. I suppose it's because its cheap, not touch far most by human hands, as you know what I mean, and it's beareble as the temperatures, because you can take sunbathes but not so burining hot.

Best Vodka is Belvedere. It's world wide populair and best of the best. Chopin is also good. But as all good vodka you need to drink it ice cold. So day before consumption must be in the freezer. Vodka will never freeze. But must be ice cold.

Most of bull#it about Poland is popularised by polish and german migrants in the states. Germans, bacause many of them lived in Poland, Romania, Czechia etc before war and usually had a negative approach toward local inhabitants, especially Poles and Jews. But for me the most irritating are americans who are like a 2nd generation of Poles, never been here but have imagination about this country like about wise always vodka wasted elves in Tolkien-like fantasy novel.

It's cold in terms that it rains a lot, it's windy and there's not much sun.
No it does not:
- rain a lot
- windy, depending on a region, but in general wind farms are not that profitable
- in that spring we had more sun (and higher temperature) than in Spain...
