Springfield Hellcat vs Sig Sauer P365-Why I'm selling my Hellcat
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 май 2021
- In this video I compare the OG high capacity Sig P365 vs the what could have been the best micro compact on the market, minus one BIG issue for me. Thanks for watching!
I've had both guns and still have the Hellcat. They're both really good and you can't go wrong either way here. I personally don't have any issues with my Hellcat slide not locking. But, just use whatever works best for you of course.
Precisely. Choose what works best for you. I see some fanboys from both sides being so upset when someone chooses a different option from what they like. There is no gun out there that fits everybody's needs 100%. That's the beauty of the current market with so many options. It's also dumb to force yourself to like something if you can't do as well with it.
Just a point. There is factory texture on the Hellcat just under the slide stop for a reason......maybe for your thumb?
Never felt the need to ride my thumb so high on my hellcat. Got your thumb damn near riding the slide. And I don’t have no recoil trouble at all.
When I went to the gs and felt the p365, Hellcat and the 43x I went out of the store with the hellcat. Still have it with apex trigger, Hogue grip, swampfox sentinel red dot, hyve mag extension. And a few days ago springfield released the 15 r mag that will be my next purchase.
Between the P365 (standard and the SAS) and the Hellcat, I still prefer the Hellcat. None of them are bad, but the SiG really isn't worth the premium.
@@jcphenry I tried the p365x and liked it, when I get the chance I think I'll add it to my rotation 👍
Exactly
I have both and really like both. Never had a malfunction with either. With a thumbs forward grip, I only experienced the slide not locking back on the 365 the first time I shot it, but never with the Hellcat. This was actually not a bad thing since it led me to adjust my grip. Not only did my slightly adjusted grip result in my thumb no longer riding on the slide release lever which was what was preventing slide lock back, but I now also have more purchase on the gun and am more accurate. There's a slight learning curve with being able to shoot these micro-sized guns well, but that's what training and practice are for.
Different hands hold guns differently. The hellcat is very popular for good reasons.
Exactly. I like the gun, just doesn’t work with my hands
@@overlandedc Quit using thumbs forward. Weaver is a better all around grip. Especially if you shoot various guns. I can swap between revolvers and autos and not alter grip. Don't bother with a classic Sig.
@@gregchabot7160 weaver is a shooting stance not grip 🤷♂️ I don’t shoot revolvers so no need to change grips
@@overlandedc It's also considered a grip. As you push/pull with strong an support hand. Also known as a crush grip. Old geezers like myself call it Weaver.🙂
Forgot to add, great video.
If you ever need a pistol for self defense it's very possible you may not hold the grip perfectly. If a gun is sensitive to how I hold it or it has to be held a certain way to work I get rid of it. I'm not brand loyal it just has to work plain and simple.
Both are great guns. If you know the slide release on Springfield guns are a problem for you, just skip buying it, lol.
The problem is you not the gun. I never experienced that. My two sons neither.
Your right. For him to continue to test the gun exactly the same way and expect different results is Insanity. If he is unwilling to adapt then get rid of it. It's not the gun.
i never had that problem. interesting. my hellcat has run flawless. never had that happen with the slide lock unless i did it on purpose.
I've carried my Hellcat for almost 2 years and it's been a great pistol, it replaced my M&P Shield 1.0 and I actually chose it over the original P365. Now that Sig has come out with the P365X that changes everything! The X grip module and flat trigger really take it to another level, plus it's already cut for an optic! I didn't get the optic ready Hellcat and had thought of getting my slide cut, but now that the P365X is out, well I just went to my local gun store and picked one up this morning and I've got to say it's fantastic! I didn't get the one with the Romeo Zero since I don't care for that sight at all and plan to get either the Holosun 407k or 507k, just haven't decided which one yet.
The difference between these two guns is more a matter of taste than function. I have both but prefer the hellcat just slightly, and I like where the slide release is.
My Hellcat is a much better overall gun than the 365. Better sights, better grip for larger hands, better capacity, outstanding accuracy and optics ready
I have to agree. I'm deciding between the two, but even though I also think the Hellcat is the better overall stock gun I'm still going to choose the P365 (XL version w/ safety). Hellcat has a much better safety, trigger, ergos, and also a trigger safety. Mags for the Hellcat are much cheaper than the P365 ($30-$40 vs Sig's $50) as well. However, with all that said, the aftermarket support for the Sig is 2nd only to Glock. Holster compatibility with lights was the biggest issue for me. There's very little support for the Hellcat in comparison to the Sig. Sig also has the modularity so you can even buy aluminum frames or go crazy down the road (future proofing it more).
For instance: You can't place a TLR7a Sub (super popular, if not the most popular, subcompact light) onto the Hellcat, not compatible unless you 3D print your own notch. It's not officially supported.
One of several reasons I believe the "thumbs forward" grip is over-hyped nonsense. I learned to shoot on DA revolvers, where "thumbs forward" means, "burned thumb." With over-locking thumbs, I have a firmer grip on any gun, and I NEVER have this slide release problem that people always bitch about.
Owned a Hellcat and spent some time with a rental 365 but was getting some slide bite with both (wear xl to xxl gloves). Also noticed the slide stop conflict on the Hellcat. Now that the 365x is out I'll probably pick one up. Looks like the beaver tail of the x frame will solve my problems.
The P365 has no trigger safety, something neither SA nor Mossberg left out. The Sig isn't horrible, but it isn't exceptional either and not worth the price premium.
I have never had the Hellcat not lock Back after the last round.. or my XD Subcompact.. and absolutely manage the recoil with no problem.. Guess I'm Lucky
Same
I like both guns but the P365 is my concealed carry choice
I think a more fair comparison would be the P365x to the Hellcat. I want to try both before I buy. I don't like how sig uses the customer to work out the issues. The 365 has had several updates to the firing pin just to be reliable...
good thing about 365x is you can still buy a 365 frame for 40$ from sig and then you have both and are optic ready or buy the one with the optic already
what Sig did with that pos is unforgivable
You are a big dude, that gun fits in the palm of your hand what do you expect? I Own both, The Sigg has less recoil impulse and is a little more accurate, the hellcat is more durable and in the long term probably more reliable. I would not hesitate to use either and I like the sig a little bit better but I feel the hellcat is slightly more reliable. The Sig runs good when everything is good with it but after 500 to 1000 rounds you will probably have to replace the striker assembly as I had to do.was getting light strikes with it . Both of mine have red dots
The hellcat is actually more accurate. Found to be twice as accurate in bench rest testing at 25 yards
Whoa! The mag drops after a shot?
Ohhh, I see that your thumb causes the issue.
I bought the P365X and the Hellcat. Couldn't decide which to keep. So I am keeping both.
Nothing wrong with that!
@@overlandedc im between does 2 wish one do you recommend me?
Which do you like better?
@@bradpowell843 Hellcat. I like the sights, grip, ease of finding mags, and those 10k plus reviews give me lots of confidence.
I'm between Hellcat, Sig P365XL, and Sig P365 X.
They didn't have the Sigs in stock when I went in the first time now they do and I really liked the feel of them.
But I already bought the Hellcat and I can pick it up tomorrow.
I really like the feeling of the Hellcat also.
I haven't paid for sales tax yet tho so I can still cancel but I'd have to wait another 2 weeks.
I'm another who has both. Both are 100% reliable, but I carry the 365 mostly, due to my perception that it's just a tiny bit slimmer/shorter. The SAS trigger group with standard slide keeps things trim.
I didn’t like the Hellcat as much as the P365XL but I would still be open to buying one in the future if I come across a good enough deal.
All a matter of which works better for the individual. The Hellcat feels better in my hand when just holding, but I actually shoot better with the 365. That said: my OG XDs 3.3 9mm Mod1 is still my main CCW, never had a single problem with the slide lock.
Man you just want to hate, that as a reason. 😲Sell it to have peace dude🤭. Anyways that’s 4 u. Hellcat is a great gun.
I have both and plan to hit the range this weekend. Want to find out which I like better. If I can't choose, I will keep both :)
Update?
your strong hand doesn't control recoil,it's your weak hand that controls the recoil...I have large hands,my slide occasionally doesn't lock back because of how I grip the pistol..same issue I have with my shield plus.
New RDP with a thumb safety is the gun for sure. The issues you talk about is to you and not to everyone. Is training technique.
Why should I change my grip for one gun, when I don’t have this problem on any other handgun, except Springfield? It does apply to my hands but it’s not a training issue that I can assure you
@@overlandedc so how you place your thumbs can prevent it. Doesn’t matter what gun you shoot. If you never change your technique that doesn’t make sense. Would you use the same grip for a semi auto and a revolver…. No. Im not going to use the same grip between a full size gun and a pocket pistol. I use the best grip based off the firearm I am using. But hey to each his own. But I do not have that problem with hellcat and I always grip high as possible in the beaver. I’m not here to argue. I think both guns are good. Got both myself. To me the 365 feels better but I like the trigger more on the hellcat.
While I can correct it by moving my thumb, my muscle memory is already there for how I grip every other gun I own. I don't have to think about it. If I'm in a self defense situation, that muscle memory is going to be what kicks in. I don't have to change my grip with the 365 so it was an easy choice for me.
@@overlandedc I love the Hellcat, but I agree with you. In a self defense situation, you're going to do what you always do. In that case, the Hellcat (or any Springfield) would be a bad choice for you given your grip style. As for it being a training issue, in all the training I've had (10 years in the military) we were always taught to keep our hands and fingers away from the slide, so I could see somewhat of a valid point there. Still, even that isn't really relevant though, since that is the way you shoot and it doesn't cause any problems for you (other than with Springfield semi autos). Other people have problems with the Hellcat trigger, because of the way they shoot (most people don't have that problem). The bottom line is, in a self defense situation, you want the tool that works best for you, all the time, however you do what you do. Good job on the video!
Do some wrist curls work your forearms that way you’re strong enough to handle the guns recoil. FYI I own both guns and I’m keeping them.
Lol thanks for the advice. I’m plenty strong to handle these guns. Doesn’t take away from the snappiness of the Hellcat vs the 365
Your dominant thumb should be resting on your support thumb. This is so you don't accidentally push down on the slide stop on dozens of other gun models
It does, and I don’t have this issue on any other type of gun
@@overlandedc the grip you showed in video shows that your dominant hand is gripping the gun itself and you aren't using your support thimb as a thumbrest
Also...my Hellcat RDP for me performs far better than the same Sig you have in the vid. My hellcat has also saved me in a real world application, and when looking back I don't think the Sig would have performed as well, though the result may have been similar.
What model red-dot are you running on the Hellcat? Was it a direct fit? Any problems? Thank you
Holosun 507k. Slight modification needed
I have both love the 365 but the Langdon tactical hellcat is a great gun as well .
I was big on high capacity small guns till I started doing some research. 99% of the time u won’t need to draw ur gun and 99.6% of the time 3 rounds or less are fired. It’s nice to have the extra rounds and I still bought both of these but I like to carry my Glock 43 or even 42 because I don’t even know it’s there. As far as triggers ur not gonna notice the trigger in a self defense situation like u do messing around in the range. To each his own
And they weigh almost as much as my glock 26 unloaded? Yeah the g26 is thicker but not by much. I can make my G26 dissappear completely with a 15 round G19 and the x grip. 👍
Also agree x3......My GLOCK G-27, G-43 and Kahr MK9 fill this roll perfectly. If it comes to needing more rounds you need to move up to your mid or full size pistols. The high capacity micro pistols are a fad that will go away when guys actually start thinking about it. A 5-shot J-Frame S&W snub nose is the revolver equivalent to these. These are more than enough for regular daily EDC and going high cap in such a small pistol defeats the whole purpose. Just carry your GLOCK G-19, G-23, Sig Sauer P-229, 4" Commander 1911 .45 etc..etc...
99% of the time ya won’t need a gun but 😉
True, but 99.99% of the time you're going to be firing that gun at the range, not in self-defense. If you hate shooting it, you won't get any training time with it and it will be far less effective for self-defense.
Send that Hellcat my way.............
Great video. Love my 365. Want the optic but hard to justify the price of just the x slide. Also gonna get and try the magguts +2. If you run the factory pinky ext you get 12 rounds in the same size mag.
I'll have to try that
I thought there was a pinky extension from Sig that was 12 rounds? I know the XL with extension holds 15....
It's a 12 round mag, the pinky extension does not add any capacity
@@goodough the stock mag on the standard 365 is 10 rounds. One come with a flat base plate and one comes with a pinky ext. No extra capacity. With the Magguts kit, you can run 12 rounds in the same size package as the 10 rounder with the pinky extension. They do have a 12 round mag and 15 round mag. I find both actually print a bit too much when I carry appendix. So I run the 10 round with the 15 round as a backup
Your Hellcat isn't a common problem. I have one that performs better.
how long it took your mags to loosen up and how did you do it?
You guys should be like me. I dont have that problem, im left handed lol
Im left handed too and I have no issue with the Hellcat. I just shot it like 2 hours ago and love the recoil on it, just feels more snappy but fires great and feels very good. Throughly enjoyed it, I’ll be buying the P365 tomorrow morning as well just cause.
Lefties unite!
If you have either, you have a good piece.
the slide locking back isn’t really that important. the odds of needing the gun are slim. the odds of needing more than three rounds is less. the odds of going through an entire magazine even less. the odds of carrying a second magazine and needing it... when has that ever happened?
I don't find that convincing where you could just as easily get a gun for the same price that doesn't have the issue. If you go down the "what are the chances" route, the logical thing is not to carry at all. We are carrying to prepare for the incredibly improbable.
If the slide lock was not there on the hellcat, your thumb would be riding the slide. You are holding too high on the gun. Change your grip
He said multiple times he's not going to change his grip to accommodate it and I have to say I agree.
Forming consistent habits is very important for performance and muscle memory.
The stupid slide release? No, your thumb placement is stupid. You are intentionally holding it down.
Ya that’s it. I’m intentionally holding it down 🙄
Sig is such a sweet shooter. I trust it all day every day over the Hellcat.
I don’t have a hellcat so no dog in the fight
But
You’re grip is not high enough on the gun so the way you are holding the gun is causing the issue.
your supporting hand is low and neither wrist is locked out.
If you get higher on the gun with your support and lock the wrist out you won’t have the slide lock issue whatsoever and you will get better recoil control as well
Can’t get any higher and because it’s high is why the slide won’t lock back, I’d have to lower my grip for this not to happen
@@overlandedc higher with the support hand so your wrist is pronated that slide release will be covered by your support and won’t be a issue
@@overlandedc you actually can get higher. And the reason you're hitting the slide release isn't because of your high-grip it's because of your thumb. Thumbs riding on pistols is actually one of the reasons people shoot low left. If you watch most competition shooters they're right thumb is sticking up in the air like Fonzie. There's a reason for that. The only time your thumb should be riding the gun is if it's a 1911 platform and it actually has a spot to ride on.
Glock 43X with S15 magazine best setup by far and most reliable
Not very comparable to these two as it's much longer in the grip which doesn't work for my specific application.
Glocks are overrated. Got a 43x and it broke with less than 200 rds. Trigger wouldn’t reset. The only way it would reset, You had to hold the gun upside down & rack the slide for it to reset. Sent it back to Glock for repairs.
GLOCK G-27 and regular G-43 for me in a pistol to fill this roll.
My exact load out lol. It works well.
Well, you aren't going to change a mag in a gun fight anyway.
That may be likely, but what if the gun malfunctions? A mag change might be necessary to fix the problem
@@overlandedc That's true, but I very, very seldom have a malfunction from my CZ, S&W, or Makarov. If I have a malfunction, I will probably die. I figure my odds of that occurring are 1 in a billion. More likely that I get run over by a tractor in downtown Indianapolis.
@@overlandedc What does whether or not a slide locks back on the last round have to do with clearing a malfunction? Typically you have to rack the slide after a malfunction anyway.
If your gun malfunctions in a gunfight you're probably never going to have time to change the slide you're going to be dead. If you're worried about your gun malfunctioning why would you carry it. I would only ever carry a gun that I know isn't going to malfunction
@@jessehudson3377 And what gun is that?
I got rid of the P365 and kept the Hellcat.
What did it for you
@@tylerbland6036 liked the ergos, optics cut, sights, and one round extra.

Sigs are known for going off randomly, so there’s that.
Put hundreds of rounds through my 365 and never had that happen🤷🏽♂️
Ha.. so guns do kill ppl 😜 bet they live the lives of you story characters when we leave the house
It was only 1 model of sig that had that issue.
My hellcat locks back after the last round.
@@Algemene They just came out with a 15 round magazine.
I understand the complaint, but it comes down to the shooters grip. Different hands, grip preferences and style.
Parts of this video are helpful. But I wouldn’t blame the guns design. That is your issue!
Agreed, if your slide doesn’t lock back because of the way you hold it. Hands down you shouldn’t use the hellcat. But that is not Springfields fault.
I don’t like the name…what’s a Hellcat?
The name of this gun😉
