      You're so welcome! Let me know what else you'd like to see! There isn't a set number of pages I can recommend based on size, it really does depend on how much content you have! I wouldn't recommend having a book that's more than about 300 pages in total, though! (Like, once it has been typeset!) It won't make sense for print cost if you go too big!

    • @leadherpublishing
      @leadherpublishing  Месяц назад

      Hardcover on KDP is still a beta feature, so they don't have all the sizing options the paperback style does! The size I recommend depends on how you prefer your journal to be. A 5.5x8.5 would be like the size of the popular "5 minute journal" but if you prefer a bigger option, 7x10'' would be a good alternative!

    Love this video! My manuscript is about 41,000 with small paragraphs to increase white space in the pages to enhance the reading ease. About how many pages will it be in the 8.5 x 5.5 book size?

      Hello! For a manuscript that size, with maybe 1.5 line spacing and normal margins, 8.5 x 5.5 trim and I’d estimate the final book will be about 200-220 pages. That’s a solid size!

      Yes, definitely! If you don't want to work with big retailers for distribution, you would just need a printing company and you can choose to do that with a print-on-demand company for printing ONLY (not distribution) OR a domestic or international print company where you could potentially do offset print runs to get a good price-per-book rate.

      Best to go for 9/10pt for the main body of an 'adult' book. 12/14pt for the title. Children's books can have the main text as 14-18pt to make it more legible.

      Hey there! From KDP directly: "The minimum is 24 pages, and the maximum depends on the ink, paper, trim size, and other factors. You can find more information by reading KDP's Paperback Submission Guidelines." The 24 page "minimum" is typically for something like a children's book, not a full book.
      Categories are a totally different topic and this depends largely on what the purpose is of your book and where you feel it best ranks. There are hundreds of categories and you are allowed to select two "main" ones in your book listing (and can contact KDP if you want to add up to 6 more categories). Categories affect how you will show up in search results as well as ranking on Amazon bestseller charts when your book debuts, so researching what your book fits into is something I suggest you do as you approach the launch phase. There is a tool called "publisher rocket" that would be a great supplement to your research on specific categories.
      Hope that helps!

    I'm making a homeschool curriculum. About how big do you think I should make it? It comes with tests and homework assignments and about 12000 words. I kind of feel.like 6x9 is too small but as a word document it's about 45 pages of straight content. That's 45 pages not including any forward or table of content pages.

    • @leadherpublishing
      @leadherpublishing  Год назад

      Hey there! For a book like what you're describing, I'd suggest selecting a 7.5 x 9.25 or 8 x 10 trim size. Note that the page count will be different once it has been typeset, so just because it has 45 pages in word doesn't mean it will have 45 pages when laid out. It will probably have MORE pages than that! Add in your worksheets and tests and it should be a fairly substantial sized resource. If it were me, I would select 8 x 10, as it's most conducive to opening up fully so that it can be written in, as I assume that's a big part of this resource. Hope that helps!!

    • @leadherpublishing
      @leadherpublishing  Год назад +1

      Hey there!
      If you are creating a children's book (or any book with full colour illustrations!) there are two options for colour: standard colour and premium colour. With my children's book clients, we always use premium colour paper. With a children's book, it tends to work out well, as there are always a smaller amount of total pages. It can get expensive, though, if using colour for a book that has a LOT of pages. With that being said, it would likely mean the retail cost of the book would go UP, if it's something like a coffee table book with photography included. That's a book you could charge far more for when it goes to Amazon, than a book that would use standard black and white paper, for example. Hope that helps!

    • @leadherpublishing
      @leadherpublishing  Год назад +1

      Hello! That's awesome, great accomplishment! The book size is totally up to you; in short, 6x9 would definitely work for the size of your manuscript. You may also have your layout/typeset designer manipulate the line spacing and font size depending on if you wish to have a thicker or thinner book. In my opinion, I would err on the side of "thin" by manipulating the text size/spacing, as ultimately it will result in a lower print cost of your finished product. You could easily size your book at 6x9 with that word count and have the standard spacing/font sizing - 1-1.5 spacing, with standard font size 12. I wouldn't recommend going bigger than 6x9 if it's a standard book. Bigger than that is more ideal for journals/workbooks or books that require writing space. Hope that helps!

    I'm writing a memoir. Can I use size 14 font . It's only 150 pages in word. The trim is 5.5 x 8.5 . Would the book be worthy to still go to Barnes and Noble if I used a bigger font. Meaning is there a rule agonst not following stanard font size. 150 pages front and back would be 75 and I want my book to appear thicker.

    • @leadherpublishing
      @leadherpublishing  Год назад

      Hey there! Apologies for the delay! 🥰 Yes, standard font size is anywhere between 11 - 14 pt, and depending on your target market, you could opt for a font size that's on the higher end. 14 would definitely be acceptable. If it's 150 pages in word, once typeset and laid out, it could be more than that because it will likely be about 1 pages typeset : 1 page in word. Meaning, at the end, it is likely the book would be more like 300 pages, or 150 front and back. Does that make sense? Also note that there are stylistic adjustments (Chapter titles, spacer pages, front and back matter) that will play into the overall thickness of the book, and the fact that your typeset designer can also manipulate line spacing in addition to font sizing. Lastly, I wouldn't stress about not getting the book into retail stores like Barnes and Noble based on font size :) There are less "rules" about the specific font size and more about the quality of the book overall. Hope that helps!

    What is the standard size for a children’s book?

    • @leadherpublishing

      8” x 8” or 8.5” x 8.5” are the most common trim sizes for kids books!

      Hey, sorry about that! It's more about the trim/size comparison than what's on the cover!

    How the hell do you even write a novel without knowing what the dimensions on the pages will be? Asking as an architect. Could you please tell us what these are in metric, we are in the internet. No one knows what your periwinkle units are talking about.
