- With Indiana Jones and The Dial Of Destiny on the way, now is a great time to return to a small yet fun set of games inspired by the movies. In fact, one of these very games is why I like Indiana Jones at all! So, let us not delay any further and see what Indy has cooked throughout the years.

I played the Lego one so much as a kid. It was great.
still is
The Lego games were always a hit, but the Indian Jones ones were different imo so good
@@BIGCHIEFR.facts!!!
I say we start a petition to get them to remaster them. They have for Star-wars, I think we can get An Indy Remake
You blow up inflatable boats by blowing on the Nintendo DS. Incredible studd
The old fate of Atlantis pc game is excellent. It’s unlockable on the Wii Indy game.
First place I played the Fate of Atlantis. It was cool how they used the wii remote for the cursor.
It's also $5 on Steam
@@ilusha88it’s actually 6 dollars for fate, last crusade, tomb, and infernal machine right now as a bundle!
Matty, your halloween story reminded me of this.
I watched starwars with my dad when i was 4 and have been a lifelong fan ever since. When i was 6 my dad saw indiana jones and the temple of doom was coming on on the channel 99 tv guide. He made me watch a bit before I realized it was the same actor from star wars and indiana jones. It immediately made me a fan of IJ.
Fast forward to when im 8. We have costume day at school. A kid at my table comes dressed as Indiana jones with a whip, hat, satchel, and fake beard and everything. I asked him if he was Indiana jones and he said “YOU KNOW WHO THAT IS” and my response was “HAVE YOU SEEN STAR WARS” and his reply back was “ITS THE SAME GUY”
It was like that moment in Step Brothers when they say “did we just become best friends?!” “yup!” Lol.
We stayed close friends for years until he moved away. Still have him and his mom on facebook.
Matt, u hit it on the head. That car ride home was the greatest. Reading the manual to see what enemies or characters were described, or the little hints the devs would put in there, was so much fun on the way home to play the games. U did such a great job of describing that feeling man. I loved opening those games and spending time with the manuals! We get nothing like that now. It's such a shame these days because companies do it all digitally and don't put in ANY effort into the manual. Regardless if it's on screen or on paper. CHEERS!
You're missing another really fun Indy game from the SNES era, Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures! If you haven't played it, it's really fun! It definitely reminds me of the Super Star Wars series but not as soul-crushingly difficult!
Yeah I don’t get how he missed that one. It was surprisingly good, I got that and the SNES X-men game for Christmas one year.
It was a good game🤠
Loved that game
I was thinking about this game too watching this. I really liked that one. Toss up between that and Infernal Machine being my favorite.
The company that made the Super SW trilogy got bought out and wasent allowed to take outside jobs anymore so Factor 5 did the Super Indy game and immitated the Super SW style this paved the way for them doing the Rogue Squadron trilogy.
I know it's very old school but fate of atlantis is a legitimately great indiana jones game, up there with blade runner as one of the best liscene point and click games
absolutely - one of many LucasArts games from the early 90's that were very good.
I have the same nostalgic love for Staff of Kings like you have for Emperor’s Tomb.
Fate of Atlantis is the most talked about of the games as it perfectly captures the tone and story!- Wii’s Staff of Kings brilliantly has it as an extra. Emperors Tomb is easily one of my favorites!
Emperors tomb was kino
I like this comment
Underrated masterpiece, great graphics for its time, great ai even for today’s standards, a great Indiana Jones entry. Could’ve handled Wu Han better though.
Are is kino
Wtf is kino
@@Curlyheart kino DER toten
I believe a complete Infernal Machine copy would come in those old pc game cereal boxes with a big manual separated from the disc's case. That's why there's no manual.
That said, Infernal Machine's N64 version holds surprisingly well. Some unfair puzzles aside, it was a great adventure for its time.
lol - I just commented this as well. Sometimes Matty is just too young to remember these things?
@@AlexCaste I'm younger than him and I'm aware still, lol. I guess he just isn't used to or interested in collecting pre-2000 PC/Console games, given also how he dismissed a gem like Fate of Atlantis.
oh really? that's funny, i remember games on cereal boxes but never really played any save the atlantis game but i don't think i ever beat it, couldn't play it on N64 myself cause the bumper stick hurt my thumb
@@professorbaxtercarelessdre1075 Fate of Atlantis is tough as nails. I finished it but my brain melted in the process. Yeah, the N64 stick is infamous in that regard. Infernal Machine's N64 can be emulated pretty well through RetroArch though. Neither the Steam nor GOG versions worked on my system.
@@Dass_Jennir i actually meant the atlantis the lost empire game, never played the indiana jones atlantis game but it sounds like it was a pain. i never beat mario 64 because of the joystick, and sadly i can't use emulators or steam cause i don't have a strong enough pc, otherwise i'd be playing the kotor games
LucasArts was one of a kind. Brought us many classic Star Wars games as well as these Indy games.
The manuals were so cool back then. Both Manhunt games, Twisted Metal Black, and The old gta's are some that come to mind. In 5th grade I remember taking a pile of manuals to school to read so I wasn't bored. Kids that only play modern games are missing out.
The infernal machine was literally one of the first games I ever played.
My parents brought a PC and this came with it. Had absolutely no idea what I was doing and couldn't get past the first level but damn I had a lot of fun with it
I had Staff of Kings on PSP and I have so many memories of playing it in the car on the way to places. I didn't realize back then that there was an actual console version, so I never played that. I'm going to have to go back and do that.
Don't agree with that statement towards the end.
To this day, Fate of Atlantis is considered to be one of, if not THE best, Indiana Jones game. I recall a massive following of people hoping the 4th Indy film would be an adaptation of it.
Emperor's tomb was one of my favorite games growing up. I just love how out there the story is.
Emperor's Tomb got delisted from the Xbox store, it was on games as gold for a while, so upset I can't get it, I rented Emperor's Tomb for the OG Xbox from a Blockbuster and got the demo disc from the Xbox Magazine back in the day...that's how I learned about KOTOR, Splinter Cell..man those were the days
Fate of Atlantis is THE Indiana Jones game and everyone wanted it to be the fourth movie. Sad that it wasn't in the video. :(
27:31
@@LockmortEdits Yeah, a short mention, but not for real. :D
The PC version of Indiana Jones Infernal Machine did come with a manual but you had to buy the Big Box version and inside the box was the manual and some random inserts and the discs
A video abot indiana Jones games .... that does not feature Fate of Atlantis (besides a short comment that it does not feature the style of Indiana Jones at the end!?!) WTF!? Fate of Atlantis is not only the best indiana Jones game (and overall story that is not told in the movies) but it is regarded as one of the best graphic adventures of all time. This is like making a video about shark movies and not mentioning Jaws!
First time I see someone take the time to appreciate how good and important manual instructions can be !
Emperor’s Tomb’s manual really went above and beyond
Matty that was awesome of you to reference My Retro Life channel. His dad was the dad we all wish we had
I had a lot of fun playing Lego Indiana Jones on the Wii with friends back in the day! It was fun playing on the Wii because you could do a "whip motion" with the Wii remote as Indy and the controller would have a whip sound effect come out of it!
I forgot about that yeah that was fire
What?!!Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis is BY FAR the most brilliant Indy Game ever done..ok is point and click so what!?engaging story..pure indy...it belong in a museum!and deserves a remake...please Lucasfilm...said that emperor tomb infernwl machine anddd staff of king...in this order..lego don't count..and I love lego games
Emperors tomb was one of the last good games with gold when we still got Back Compat freebies
I really love how passionate you are about the manual. You really nailed that whole experience of getting the game and the booklet being the first thing to examine before getting home. I distinctly remember doing that when I first got Final Fantasy VII and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. The booklets also added that extra amount of weight to the case so that you really feel you're getting your money's worth (or your parent's money at the time). That's been lost with games since I guess the PS3/Xbox 360.
I have the Xbox version of Emperor's Tomb and honestly never looked at the booklet so I'll have to go check that out!
Emperor’s Tomb was a fantastic game especially when considering it came out 20 years ago. Would love for it to get a remake
PC games during that time came in "Big boxes" with the jewel case inside. That's why there's no info on the case, and no manual in there. That stuff was on/in the big box, which I'm sure is expensive as hell because all of them seem to be now.
Yep. I remember reading every word on and in those beautiful cases, cover to cover. Even the little writings on the back of the case. lol.
You missed out so much not playing The Last Crusade and Fate of Atlantis. Those were simply awesome games, and had their own sort of energy.
Infernal Machine was an OBSESSION for me as a kid. Played on PC. 10/10.
I lol'd at 23:25. Rip Satipo 🤣
The first LEGO Harry Potter also had that level editor. Those were the only 2 games to have it
And only one of them has been re-released
Instant subscribe. Your channel really takes me back lol
The Emperor’s Tomb has to be one of the best Lucasfilms licensed games ever (actually, probably one of the best licensed games ever). I originally played it on the PS2 as a kid, but I’ve been playing the Xbox version more recently and the graphics are SO MUCH BETTER on the Xbox port.
The grunts in Oblivion are forever burned into my brain
My retro life is amazing! Brings back memories
Staff of Kings PSP version was really good. I hope that gets added to PS Plus classics.
Just subbed Matty! Gotta say that manual is amazing and gave me a huge nostalgia rush! Reminded me of when I bought Oblivion after a camping trip and read that manual front to back multiple times on the ride home!🤘
Emperor's Tomb was my first Xbox game. I was a toddler.
I still have its original copy and the Xbox I first played it on
The 'Infernal Machine' game case came in a bigger box and with a manual. The manual did did not fit into the plastic game case itself as it was too big.
I can second this. I have one since it came out.
I have the Infernal Machine on N64 and it basically plays like a Zelda game lol its pretty good
I'm surprised my uncle Dennis never heard of it, and do you want it to be remastered in the hands of Rockstar games?
Yeah, the Infernal Machine on PC was a big box PC game, so the manual was a long booklet included in the cardboard box iirc. I still have my copy
Man that bit about the manuals really took me back to the passenger seat of my grandmas car for just a moment r.i.p.
Great video. Awesome shout out to My Retro Life.
The staff of kings is the same thing to me, what the emperor’s tomb is to you. Truly an awesome game for the time, great memories. Even though my mum had to help for some quick time events
Just a note, you didn't have to hit enemies tree times to disarm them in Emperor's Tomb. If you clicked and held the button, you would imediatly disarm an enemy by doing a whip-grab. If you did this same attack on an already disarmed enemy, you would do a grab around the neck, and pull them forward for a punch. So it seems you completely missed a type of move with the whip that is very useful.
This happens a lot, as tubers didnt really play that many great games, they just do it for money and fame. Same with mjesus. He played once a game that had 2 fire functions on 1 button ( hold to reload a charged shot. And constant tapping to fire constantly. But he just didnt know🤣 cuz he aint really that of a real old school gamer. He just jumped on the retro express... many more such "gamers"🤓
I remember the awe I felt the first time I played a game online (on the Dreamcast believe it or not). It was Quake III Arena.
Emperor’s Tomb was my JAM!!!! I was such an Indiana Jones fan as a kid. (I didn’t like Temple of doom cuz it was weird and gross and scary)
I have so many memories of the Prague levels in the castle with those puzzles.
Temple of Doom is amazing.
I want to like your comment but I can't because temple of doom is so good
Prague was great level, loved the tower, the clock puzzle, the library.
I never though I’d see this video be created! Everyone forgot about these almost-masterpieces
Emperor's Tomb is a staple of my childhood!!
Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb is an absolute classic. It also runs at 4K resolution on Series X.
Emperor's Tomb and Lego Indiana Jones are two of my all time favourites. There may not be a whole lot of Indy games, but the ones that are good are absolutely amazing.
I was NOT expecting the outfit! 😂
Hi. I know I am late to the party on this, but I just had to comment on the fact that Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine didn't have a manual for PC. I bought that game brand new on PC when it first came out and it came in a big box as PC games often did during that time and I know it did have a manual. I unfortunately traded in a long time ago, so I don't have it anymore, which is unfortunate!! But I do remember the manual being fairly intensive. I think it was just black and white, but I can't be sure.
By the way, I super enjoy your content and love retrospectives as there are a lot of games that I grew up with and it is great to remember how awesome they were!! I also agree with you that it is unfortunate that manuals in video games have all but disappeared!!
There is a video game store in my city that actually sells old retro video game manuals. They have some old N64 game manuals that I have considered picking up at times!!
Anyways, thanks for the great content!!
Lego Indy was my childhood. Played it to death way back in the late 2000s. Such a good fun game and one of TT's best.
I got all the achievements :)
@buttonfromd00m9 I don't think I ever did. I definitely completed it to 100%. I think the only game I got all achievements for was Batman Arkham Asylum, I hated doing it tho.
@@Benji568 the Xbox 360 games I have all achievements on are:
Lego Indiana Jones
Lego Jurassic World
Doritos Dash Of Destruction
FATE OF ATLANTIS
Those video games belongs in a museum!!!
My retro life is an amazing channel!
the LucasArts Atlantis was soo good
Staff of Kings on the Wii was the one I grew up with. I remember I got my copy from Sam’s Club of all places. I really wish I still had the game though because you could unlock and play all of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and I didn’t know that until a few years ago.
Emperors tomb gave me a legitimate lifelong phobia of water 😂😂😂 10/10 great game
I also really enjoyed Indiana Jones’ Greatest Adventures on the SNES, I’d recommend giving that one a try, I had it for the virtual console on my Wii.
Emperor's tomb its such a good game, I never been a gamer but Im 31 now, and this game still amazes me. I was soo involved in it then I was a kid. :/
Great break down!!!
Staff of kings was supposed to have havoc physics like the force unleashed on 360 and PS3 and I was upset when they cancelled the 360 and PS3 version
Imagine an open world Indiana Jones game, solve mysteries and adventure wherever you feel
You know how we all had that random console with only 1 game as a kids, well lego indiana jones was that game for me. I had it on the ds and it completely blew my mind at the time since I would only play side scrolling flash games at that time.
For the hype for the upcoming Dial Of Destiny I recently booted up my old Nintendo Wii and played the first LEGO Indy game and I even 100%ed it.
Aww...I know you don't usually do pc games if at all but..... its painful you didn't include fate of Atlantis
if you bought that copy of Infernal Machine used? The reason it probably has nothing on the back was because it was a boxed copy where the jewel case was in a box. When I bought my copy for $10 new at Walmart it was on the shelf just in a jewel case and the back of it has info, system requirements, screenshots, etc. Like Infernal Machine and Emperor's Tomb
"Video games are the ultimate form of entertainment... I can't get into the movies they're based on if I haven't played a related game about them first." Those games wouldn't exist without those immensely excellent films. Stories that don't allow you to insert yourself into them as a player with a controller require a totally different and far more human mindset. Video games are powerful, but they are mostly power fantasies for largely idle, passive participants with a certain amount of self-absorption. They rarely inspire real world learning outside the screen for the consumer. I would venture a guess that "ridiculous costume" is probably the nicest shirt you now own by accident, that hat is hardly "enormous" when you see and wear the actual type of bada$$ hat Harrison Ford wore in those films, and I hope one day you'll use this love of these video games to explore more about this character in your real life. Learning about historically-based (read: setting) characters like this often leads to learning about all kinds of real world historical information and other tactile experiences you otherwise would never get close to.
I remember renting Emperors Tomb and playing it over the whole weekend when i was in 5th grade one time i remember i made my dad pay late fees when he returned it it was awesome the combat the shooting picking up different objects in a fight it was awesome
Emperors Tomb was brilliant! Definitely going to replay it
I used to read the manuals while on the toilet.
Wawaweewa, very sexy.
The Emperor's Tomb was actually a free game with gold membership and thankfully I got it.
The first Lego game is what got me interested in the Indy films as a kid
Great stuff matty , love indy and the old games. loved the arcade temple of doom game it was terrible but great as a kid as well!
Mr. Matty - old PC games came in really big boxes. Perhaps that's where the instruction manual and all the info would be? The CD case used to just be the "install disc" holder, and not the real packaging of the game.
The Emperor’s Tomb was life! 🙌🏽
Jr?! Yes sir? It is you JR!
have very fond memories of lego indy, hoping to try emperors tomb soon
Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis is my favourite nest to the snes game. 😊
The reason why there is no manual in that Jewel case of Infernal Machine is because the game came in a big box (where you will find a separate manual)
Speaking of KotOR I do the black vulkar death noise like literally every day lol
Emperor’s tomb is great, I still have my cd copy, and the widescreen mod actually doubles as a nocd crack.
The manual is great on PC too, the diary shows a CD instead of the console
Controller support is clunky (you can mod Xbox controller scheme), but even with a keyboard and mouse works ok.
One weird thing it has, it that the weapon select is on the arrow keys by default, but also works with the scroll wheel, and it’s mentioned nowhere
Bro emperors tomb bring back some good memories 😢 I wish I still had my complete disk
I resonate with the gaming getting you into stuff the first experience I ever had woth star wars was lego star wars 2 the video game on ps2
Great video, but I was a little bummed to reach the end of the video and see the games I expected to be featured just briefly mentioned. Those puzzle heavy games are more "retro" to me, someone in their mid-30's.
I really hope you have a fate of Atlantis in here I played that when I was a kid it's amazing!... Easily the best Indiana Jones game
I have the PC version in the box. It has a big ol manual, one of those old PC giant booklets.
Honestly really cool, I've never heard of some ofthese games before!
PS you saying you like hand to hand combat systems is making me hope for potential future yakuza videos
I had Infernal Machine on N64 and also Emperor’s Tomb on PS2.
Love the content Matty. I’m always here for Lego games
i no longer have my ps2 disc or case but i still have the manuel, always thought it was one of the coolest manuel for a game
Emperor's Tomb was a fun game after I beat Staff of Kings on the Wii. Glad I got it with Games with Gold
Fate of Atlantis is the best Indiana Jones game ever made, id say Emperors Tomb is the 2nd best.
The art that you liked for Infernal Machine was actually by the legendary Drew Struzan who did some of the actual film posters, he also did the Emperors Tomb coverart
Infernal machine for PC came with a full color manual. In a big box.
There was so much love created with physical copies of games.... we definitely lost something in that era of gaming.
