Can't wait to see your photos/edits in the photo challenge! Best of luck to all the challengers and can't wait to shout some of you out on the channel.
Ok, that fact that you were changing the colors in the background of your video while you were filming really showcased the light a lot better than any other light video I've ever seen. I'm sold.
It seems like a totally dope light! Bought the AL-MX and i'm really satisfied having it in my backpack. I do use the Philips Hue system when i'm in the office but this seems like a solid option to have the RGB lighting on the go!
I like how you say "invest" as opposed to "buy", because that is exactly what you are doing. Investing in lights is something I wish I had done far earlier because the ROI has been exponentially better than say a gimbal, a drone, or some other new toy.
Oh and I started with a cheap softbox kit off Amazon several years ago, then upgraded to the 120D and softbox and several evolv 200 flashes for stills photography.
Matti thank you fir inspiring me to get off my butt and start vlogging after 3 years of putting it on the back burner. I've been to some cool places and can finally take people with me. Thank you
@@DanOsborne yeah I have quite a few things from them including a CF tripod with ball head that I have been using for about 3 years now. No issues at all
Haven't bought lights. But about to buy a new computer a new camera mic lights and a lens. I got about 6 grand, tbh can I get your opinion on what I should get? I just started a new channel bro about addiction and how I got my life turned around and I Wana share my story. The concrete videos just didn't ever really take off plus I can't really tell my story w the concrete content. I want a cinematic look kinda like vice does. And I know that I can write it off (taxes) because I have a monetized channel already
Glad you made this video. I’ve used a variety of different lights out in the field and in my studio and I purchased them because they were cheap but that never did what I really wanted. This light definitely fits the bill, so versatile and smart. Thanks Matti 👍🏼
i nearly bought 120d with a neewer 60inch soft box after seeing it on your channel.... but then i thought i should improve my skills before i spend money on 120d. so currently am using 100 dollar cheap lights with small softboxes. the cheap lights i have , they only work with the soft box it came with so kinda limited... but then your videos help and i make home hacks ....i have only made like 3-4 videos with lighting and i see my lighting improving with every video i shoot as i am learning... thanks for awesome videos...
i was thinking about getting this for hair light and if it doesnt work for hair light then i will just have it in the background...lighting a part of my background.
Matti, funny you just did this video. Looks like Aperture heard about the *BOLING BL-P1 Pocket LED* , which is what I just bought. The BOLING is a great RGB light with tons of features as well (but no APP). Yes, that APP does look pretty cool. Though the BOLING light has a wider color temp. 2,500K - 8,600K. Looks like Aperature's light is 3200K-6500K. Do like the APP though....
I am working on a crazy budget lol. I started off using a lamp with a leftover Phillips Hue bulb and a Hue flood in one of those clip on can light home depot specials. I recently upgraded to a newer LED panel and kept the HUE flood home depot special as a fill light. I also bought a set of LED floods that do RGB as backdrop lights.
Sun Light.... thats all I have been using so far. As a baby videographer I am still crawling through soooo much information and learning what I want vs. what I need. Thanks. THIS light looks line a need for sure.
I use portable Hyper Tough LED lights from Walmart. $5 (100 lumens) - $40 (2500 lumens). They are used in work spaces but are not warm and are brighter than you may think. Yes, no color shifting available but you can make filters with supplies while you are at Walmart. I didn’t go this route because it’s cheap but rather because it’s simply....light. I have two 100 lumens and one 2500 lumens in my bag. Placing these small lights spread across the background gives me a convincing look when very low-light areas. It’s all a matter of light placement.
Really cool Matti Haapoja. Great video! What do you think of GODOX? I'm excited about the GODOX RGB R1 light coming out soon. Looking forward to the next video!
I've just recently got the Aputure MX because it's brighter than the MC, and it upgraded my videos so much, but now I realize I need both. Thank you Matt for convincing me to spend another $90 😂
bought a VILTROX RB08 had it for a couple weeks and now I'm sending it back, I think that might tell you how I feel about it also decided to do a RUclips review on it..
I'm trying to ball on a budget. Using a LimoStudio lightkit with warehouse corncob LED lights and two Aputure M9 for accents and in many cases, key or hairlight.
I just bought the Aputure 198c bicolor. It's a great light with massive output for its size. I love it. I was actually looking for an RGB light to use in my photos and here I am. What a great day. Thank you Matti ❤❤😍
I use cheap ($12) clip on garage lights from Home Depot. I made barn doors for them and I diffuse them with a shower curtain. They are very difficult to use, but I am getting some good results with them. I really want to invest in Aputure lights. They look amazing! Hopefully in a couple months I’ll have enough saved to get some.
As a half blind not a full wallet just enough to survive the month content creator in Cali I use the Aputure Amaran AL-F7 as my Key light with a soft frost diffuser as for fill light I use a cheap desk light trying to save up for a Aputure MC light for backlight. AWESOME video 📷🔥👍.
I have several types. HMI 575s and 1200, for lager production. I also use Darcast LED panels for smaller shoots. I enjoy natural light as much as possible.
I’m using apurture amaran m9 light since I am just a hobbyists. Just started filming with my iPhone XR and I’m liking it so far while keeping in mind the tips I get from your channel
awesome video keep up the good work, I didn't know Aputure brought that new light out but the lights I have for my videos I use is the Aputure AL-M9 i bought two of them and they work great.
Ok, you’re totally trying to kill my monthly budget by showing me cool stuff like this. I was thinking about upgrading my background in the videos and now I know how!
I own Philips Hue smart lights combined with regular soft boxes from Bresser, that is already a nice setup, What i like about this solution is that it comes with the same functionality but then in a mobile format which gives you more freedom and flexibility in positioning the lights, I think these will become the first lights from Aputure I can and will invest in
ive got a real mix of lighting! a few older tungsten fixtures, 2x 2ks, 2x 800s. some Yongnuo YN360 LED wands that are RGB and pretty cheap and versatile recently brought a Rayzr 7 LED fresnel and a faclon eyes RX18-TD flex mat LED. both are excellent!
Lights amazing and controlling from phone is the best - but is there a stand for it or what would you suggest on placement - I feel like it needs a stand for it...
Meh I wouldn’t use them much like that. Ends up being a pretty bad look coming in straight. But you could hold it out to the side or get someone else to hold it and it’ll look wayyyyy better

I'm using the Yongnuo 360 RGB Light Wand, as well as the Yongnuo YN600 RGB panel for my colors. My key light is the Godox SL-60W, because I can't afford a 120D, and that fan noise is not an issue. For my little accent lights, Aputure AL-M9 Amaran Mini LEDs.
Definitely want to start investing in lights from this company. Right now im just rockin two lights I already had which is not ideal but gets the job done. Its pretty good for how cheap the setup is. But upgrading is goin to be necessary eventually and i think this little light will be the first step in goin that direction
I get almost all my lights used. Quality softboxes are really cheap on Craigslist and similar sites, and decent LED bulbs from the hardware store have worked great for my company's needs. I was given a pair of ETC SourceFour 750 watt tungsten lights as well and recently got a 600 watt Smith Victor par, so I have some nice hard tungsten lights with CTB gels to complement my soft daylight LEDs. Finally I got some LED tubes from Hyperikon and mounted them to wood boards, giving me a pair of 4 foot long LED strips with 2 bulbs each so I can unplug one for half brightness if needed.
