    I love my Addis.....I have been taking them to some assisted livings and letting the residents use them with my help. We are donating the hats and scarves to the cancer centers....NICU and shelters. The ladies love it. They can no longer knit or crochet but can turn the handle. So satisfying!

    Very clear tut! I'm so glad you did this, because when I do a search on youtube for "Addi Express change colors", this tut will appear! For me, it's usually a few weeks inbetween doing projects, so I still refer to videos before I start cranking. I need to learn the crochet bind off, because the single layer hats are more useful in the south.

    Margaret, thanks for all the work you put into helping us with your experimentation and videos. Do you know what the little keyhole opening in the top of the yarn feeder is for? Perhaps for a second strand to knit together with the main yarn?

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  5 лет назад

      I have no earthly idea why that keyhole opening is there, Steve, but if you knit with more than one strand, make sure you use lighter yarn. We can break something if we force the machine to knit with yarn that's too bulky. I've held 2 strands together with great success as long as they're lighter than worsted.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  5 лет назад +2

      Depends upon your gauge. 7mm was recommended to me once but depending on the yarn, I usually do best with 6mm. As with anything, do a gauge swatch! I switch it up as needed.

    Hello again Margaret. Thanks so much for responding so quickly to my last question. Do you have a video in which you have discussed picking up dropped stitches when your work is still on the machine? I'm sure you don't have too many of those on your nice addi machine. I got the new Singer machine to play with a bit and I'm going to be getting the king size Addi very soon. I'm so excited. Anyway I've watched other people's videos on picking up the dropped stitches and I'm just still a little lost on it. I'm sure you talking and demonstrating it would be much more helpful to me. Anyway take care..

Tried it and failed and was just wondering if you had any experience in making it easier. You have so many helpful ideas. If Not, no problem. I thought it would not hurt to try.

    Just an FYI on the shape of the skein .. I use those mesh sleeves iver my center pull skeins and that works great for tension control and, even it rolls, it doesn't unwind. I love them! Herrschner's sells them, and so do other vendors.

      You can make these yarn sleeves/socks with cheap, stretchy socks or nylon stockings; the knee-high ones. You just cut the toes or feet out, so you have a stretchy tube to fit over your yarn skeins. I did this with my yarn sometimes, before I bought my Stanwood.

    Hey Margaret! Have you heard about the addi egg? I kind of accidentally found it on RUclips. It's a little tiny knitting machine that makes cording! The other ones really don't work well consistently, but I'm sure that the addi isn't quite as temperamental. I will be checking out the prices soon!

    I am having a problem with the yarn splitting leaving a single ply on one of the two little red prongs. When you do a gathered bond off, the yarn needle goes between those two prongs. A single ply will stay caught and eventually stay stuck. I watch carefully and don't turn fast at all. Thank you so much for any suggestions.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  8 лет назад

      +Richard Benjamin My best guess is that it's the yarn. Some yarns work better than others on the Addi and the worst part is that some of us battle a specific type while others find great success with it! Very strange.

    I so enjoy your RUclips videos. They have inspired me to order an Addi King Sized machine which I do not yet have (it is ordered). I have been looking for a way to knit a cable stitch on it (or cable-like) to add to a hat. Do you know of where I can find directions for making a cable stitch? Thanks so much.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  7 лет назад

      Thank you, David! Some of those early videos are really rough: bad lighting, poor editing and my ignorance as I stumble through the learning process! Glad you can learn from my mistakes! Re: cable stitch... there aren't any instructions that I know of and I'm not sure it's possible. I'll have to think on that! Unlike a flat bed machine, you can't release more than 1 needle at a time. (Well, you may be able to release 2 if you're careful.)

    So I pick up the stitches where on the top of the end of the white area, or between the edges of the red and the white? If so, then I pick up the stiches, then what happened to the white edge, I remove?

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  6 лет назад

      I'm not clear on what you're asking. I think you're referring to casting off, where you put your tapestry needle between the 2 red "teeth" after the white needle drops down. You can see that in the video. But I don't understand what you're referring to when you ask, "What happened to the white edge I remove?"

  • @BeyondTshirts
    @BeyondTshirts 7 лет назад

    Hi Margaret! I have a question. To avoid the curling that is natural with circular knitting, I like doing about the first three rows in a purl stitch. If I do that on my circular needle, how do I transfer that over to the machine so that the bottom of the "tube" has three purl rows?
    And then casting off, can I "cast off" back onto my circular needle to finish up with three purl rows?
    Do you know of any videos that show how to do that?
    Thanks!

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  7 лет назад +1

      You transfer it over slowly... put on stitch on the raised Addi needle, pushing it down where it's supposed to be, moving the crank to the next needle and repeat. Some people cast off right on to the circular needles, simply picking up a stitch on the machine with the point of a needle one stitch at a time. I think I'd prefer to finish off the Addi with waste yarn and picking up the stitches that way. I think I demo this in the advanced fingerless mitts tutorial.

      I have a very old machine (bought in 2012) so we can’t really compare them. If I’m not mistaken, the newer ones replaced the digital counter with an analog one. If that’s the case with yours then I would assume it clicks when it passes the counter each round.

    Does this work the same for flat panels?

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  3 года назад +1

      Pretty much. In my Addi Playlist Addi Playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLV9cndFtR5BVQrjZ7X1f0HRTV92kscJf2 you'll see a flat panel tutorial by Suzy Notting (owner of the Facebook Group Addi King Loomers and Knits) and she explains beginner flat panels really well. However, this person talks about flat panel stripes: ruclips.net/video/MChX_j6Lv-Q/видео.html

    I've crocheted for 45 years, and I have ALWAYS had problems finding the loose end in the middle of a skein of yarn. Any pointers? I have literally been able to do it about 5 times - ever.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  3 года назад

      Sure! I stick both index fingers in each end of the skein aiming for the center. Wherever the fingers meet, scoop some of that center yarn with one index finger and pull it out. The end should be somewhere in that small wad! (I once heard that you should pull from the left side if the label is facing you but I'm not sure that's always the case.)

      @@sheepishlysharing Thanks, I'll try that - Usually, all I pull out is a knot!! But I'm good with knots, so . . .
      Terrific video. Very helpful. I just ordered a circular loom (don't remember which brand) and I can't wait to get it.

      +Melissa Sutcliffe Yes... there is a pattern on the Addi King Loomers and Knits Facebook group.

    I have been disappointed in my addi. The needles would break even before I could finish one project. They would break midproject

      @sheepishlysharing  4 года назад

      Really? I hate to hear that. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I've ever heard that before! (I've never had one broken needle in the 7-ish years I've had mine!) Be sure you're not applying too much tension. Just guide the yarn through with your left hand (no pulling) and/or make sure you use #4 worsted weight or lighter yarn. If it still persists, send it back.

      Multiple language captions is a lengthy process. I just added auto translate in French but that's the best I can offer. Hope it helps
