God I miss those days. Not knocking them today, but there was a special magic with Mikey. I'm so grateful to have been able to experience WSP with them. Also the ABB with Betts, Haynes and Woody, and of course the Dead with Jerry. The music has kept going but things do change.
This is the baddest ass version of this song I have found on video from the early days. I've probably watched it 150 times. Thank you to whomever made it happen. Will Foster_ VA Beach
What a night! The energy that night was magical and something I've only experienced a handful of times. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite shows by any band.
I think that's why I always adored Mikey because he was always playing simple notes but with this aura that I cant quite put my finger on....the reverby, vibrato style that was 100% unique....and when he was feeling it with some distortion on his guitar look out....it literally sounds like he was panicing while playing....so cool...good comment..cheers
That lingering lead. Unusual technique with his bends and volume pedal. He was never going to blow you away with flurries of arpeggios, but he was so very special in his own way. Miss him.
The Mikey years were the best of times... it was such a blast following Panic back then all over the US and Europe once ... spent around $500k during my run '90 - 2015ish... kids and busy with life nowadays.... I need to get my old pro dat machine serviced and transfer all 3,000+ hours I personally taped back in the day... priceless gems !!!
Hey man, love the story! I saw a bunch of mikey shows in the 90's too. Mike's sound, when he would touch the fretboard, literally sounded like clouds of notes just floating. His gear set up really helped out alot too. We might have been at alot of the same shows in the 90's... Pensacola Bayfront 94-97, Pensacola Spring Fest 93-97, New Orleans Tipitinas winter 93, Jackson MS spring 98, Oak Mountain 94-95, Light fuse get away athens GA 97, Haloween new orleans 97, Mississippi state Univ March 99, New Orleans Jazz fest 97, Milsapps college in Jackson MS i think 95 or 96. Precious years man, just gems... Hey man just curious, do you have video footage of the old mikey days?
Oh I know, I dropped a cool 1.2M during my run from 89 to 23. I have 6K hours of dats and videos I need to get out. There in the climate controlled panic vault I have. I even hired an archivist to catalog it all. I mostly just smoke doobies in the stereo room I had built. That alone cost me 200k.
I love jimmy, but dayaum i miss mikey . so soothing. man, i haven't listened to '98 panic in a loooong time. my eyes are leaking with memories and feelings.
I just watch these old videos. Jimmy Herring might be a decent player but he sucks with Panic. I don’t go see them anymore. It was Mike’s band, he put it together and it was his sound. He also wrote all the good originals. It’s like Skynard without Ronnie and Allen. Just enjoy the recordings.
Man, this is good. I missed out on a lot of music in the 90's working like a dog. What makes it sadder is I didn't know there was a WSP ver 1.0. with this wonderful guitarist on the left who I'll never get to see. Looks like he always had the touch. Sorry I wasn't paying attention Mike.
Have to look back at older ticket stubs but I guarantee if these boys played in south ga me and most my buds were there to see them. Lots of memories in SGA Valdosta
I was so young when he went....7 years old. Hell, i never heard of them until i was 17. Oh well ill just cry to these videos and dance at herring shows....WSMFP
I really miss the old days of PANIC. Some of the best days of my life. The best 10 yrs of my life was spent chasing them around from city to city from 1995 to 2005. Seen over 200 shows and loved every minute of it
God bless the baw who snuck in a big ass Sony camera to a show and , undoubtedly, pissed off the plethora non futuristic RUclips frat/hippie/bro patrons who were highly perturbed of this new technology and the ways of documenting pure, unadulterated, musical epicness for future generations to ponder and, of course, to enjoy. Cheers to yew, baw.
Me too man...what a great show, those GA shows were always the bomb back then...miss the hell out of Houser. He definitely gave em their trademark sound
Hatfield's Mama? She usually has something to say about Homebrew Beer and Homemade Wine. Then pull out her 3 string banjo and play 9 and a half bar blues. Sometimes I've heard 12.5 or 13.5. No one has ever mentioned 12 bar blues. Must be a little off with the turn around. Hangs on the turn for two more beats

Mikey was the engine.
Mikey's playing was so idiosyncratic, and unique with the way that he rode the groove. He was irreplaceable.

My first WP show was at Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Halloween 1996, HOOKED! Houser was the Man. RIP BROTHER.
What a night! The energy that night was magical and something I've only experienced a handful of times. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite shows by any band.
so solid-
the panic that grabbed my soul-
for a lifetime!
Houser did some very simple but unique, perhaps even inventive, stuff in his solos. His Hatfield solo might be my favorite.

@@dylanpatterson3975 no ome else like him, and WSP shows never been same without him. This was my second panic show, i remember it well
@@wcbryan I went to the three nights at the Capital Theater this year and it was super good but not the same...I miss it to brother ✔️👊✌️
The Pappa Legba solo from Light Fuse, Get Away is possibly my favorite. Jo Jo and DAS lock in with him
great sound...back in the super vhs days off board tapes...much love
Houser was the absolute best. Amazing.
Yep. Watching today on the 18th anniversary of his passing. RIP Mikey 🎸🥀❤️🍻

This was my favorite panic show I saw! Monday night!
Schools said its like a tennis match with the energy and interactions of the crowd and the band. MAGIC
I love jimmy, but dayaum i miss mikey . so soothing. man, i haven't listened to '98 panic in a loooong time. my eyes are leaking with memories and feelings.
Yep yep. ❤️ that lingering lead! 😇
It's almost like losing your Jerry or Trey.

First show in 93, but 98 was the year I went full throttle. Being a junior in college probably helped. RIP peace Mikey and Todd.

j b belle always plays with his back to the audience when he's not singing
whats the deal with that?
killdaclownz it's JB or John Bell, and he's the band leader, so he's showing them the changes
He's playing with and watching his best friends... a band like this needs no "leader", they all feed off each other, no one single main character lol
