Wow, watching this makes me feel like the Grateful Dead are the greatest band of all time. And their music continues to transcend generations decades after Jerry’s passing. Their story is so long and remarkable and is still be written and that is also one of the reasons I think like they’re the greatest.
Too bad he’s been gone for a long time - best keyboard & vocalist they ever had. He put all his heart and soul into his performances - and this video is a fine example of his talent.
@@gabevachon326 Agree, peak Dead. Lesh has said the band lost a little something when they went on hiatus mid-70’s. I don’t know about that, as 78 tour was awesome. This was an incredible show. Sultry hot. Fire hoses for the crowd. I think Los Lobos opened for them. The Dead opened with Playin’ > Crazy Fingers, so…a very good start, and all the band engaged, listening to each other, and having fun. 1989 might very well have been the apex of Garcia’s technical prowess. Listen to how he reaches for everything and attains it flawlessly. He does this consistently throughout 89, both with the Dead and with the JGB. Archive has the complete Healy super matrix of this show. Listen for yourself.
Totally inspired performance, seen it several times but dam if it doesn't kick ass each time! Brent is possessed & Jerry is smiling back, "you are the one to make us all glad..." tears everytime, happy #80 in '22
What was wrong with 80-86? Not sure why you’re dismissing Brent’s early years; particularly as that’s when you could catch the band in smaller venues. Hartford, Lake Placid, Syracuse, Cornell, Ithaca, Buffalo, Augusta (Maine). Jerry was fine. Touch of Grey and the explosion into larger venues meant the end of shows where you could go where you wanted. Kind of miss those intimate years more...
I was Blessed enough to see the Dead close to 40 shows , I witnessed them play Dear Mr. Fantasy on multiple shows, they blew my mind. I witnessed Brents last show as well as Jerry Garcia’s last show in Chicago at Soldier Field, Going to a Grateful Dead show was like Christmas for me . In my humble opinion Jerry Garcia was one of the best guitar players of all time!!!! Rest In Peace Brent , Jerry Thanks for all the incredible performances. Going to a Dead show was one of my favorite things that I’ve ever done in my lifetime, Thanks for the memories.
Let artists make their magic without judgement!! Uncalled for! I love them all!! Every day I listen to the Dead. Think of what we would be missing out on!!
I was at this show. It was great but I am appreciating it a lot more after watching this. They were all on fire. I always loved Brent and his singing added a lot. I'm so fortunate to have been able to go to shows and find such great friends and an accepting community
Just discovered Brent Mydland out a week or 2 ago. My favorite musician ever! It makes me cry that he died so early. All of the videos with Brent are 🔥 His voice sounds like a guardian angel screaming at the devil.
@@pb68slab18 its a possibility but i feel like jerry didnt like to do anything and play, im pretty sure we was pretty worried how the band sounded, in the 'long strange trip' phil mentioned how jerry got mad at how bad one of the recordings sounded and pushed him down the stairs of the studio, so jerry was definitely worried about the integrity of the band and im sure in his mind he would think being sober atleast not on hallucinogens wouldve helped him here wether the band sounded good or bad
I mostly missed the bus and totally missed the Brent era and earlier. Caught a couple shows in 1991 between turning 18 and leaving for the Navy. But you dont have to know much to see that the relationship between Jerry and Brent was magical.
Unbelievable and to think I was there but unfortunately did not see that but heard about it. Heads were going crazy. Brent really gave his all and Jerry listened and fed back. Rest in peace Jerry and Brent. God bless you.

OH MY JERRY! I miss my Jerry so much. I'd never seen Brent perform. I was there for Donna. And then returned to my best band in the 90s. Brent was already gone. Jerry still played Vegas for 4 more years. And Traffic was there one year. Brent's eyes are so wild, and he's so raw. Jerry and Brent were magical together. I feel like crying now.
They were at their most mature and commensurate. The magic was there that night. It comes through in the music. The timely crescendos and the lazy lumbering notes hitting all the tempo with perfect intrinsic perfection.
Best birthday present ever! I was seven years old on this date. Love the Dead! Miss you Brent you would have been in the same high school class as my Dad. They would have been friends!
I first saw Jerry play with the NRPS in '73, and in '79 I saw the Dead with Brent playing with such passion right out of his soul. Then Brent died. It was time to get off the cosmic bus, and then Jerry died, and it was over. This moment right where exemplified everything that was sublime and classic about our boys. There will never be another Grateful Dead. May the love always shine. May the light always find you at home in the heart, back where it all began. Peace, Love, and Harmony. NFA
Hi Michelle !! I got to see them in Maine once . That was Lewiston in 1980 , early September . Levin Helm opened and The Grateful Dead played three sets !! That turned out to be Four & A Half hours with the ‘commercials’ (breaks) removed …. WoW !!!

One of my favorite live performances ever
This is what you give a friend who's having a difficult time getting "it". If this don't get ya nothing will. 💓
No shit.
@@finished6267 Thank God! 😊👍
I was at this show with my mom and dad. I was 12 at the time. Such great memories.
I was dead at the time
Me too!
An unforgettable tune; I can never tell, however, whether it's hopeful or despairing.
So they say, "The Dead aren't the best at what they do...They're the only at what they do."...Well here they are the best!! Just phenomenal!!!
This video restores my faith in humanity.
Totally inspired performance, seen it several times but dam if it doesn't kick ass each time! Brent is possessed & Jerry is smiling back, "you are the one to make us all glad..." tears everytime, happy #80 in '22
once again reminding me how fucking great it was to be anywhere near stage left between 86-90. Jerry and Brent just had that sauce together
i likea da sauce!
The fun those two had during that era was infectious! Wish it lasted longer, but at least we have every single show available to enjoy!
Thank God for You Tube..It is such a blessing to be able to re-live all these amazing performances right at our fingertips...Priceless!!
The “Brent connects with Jerry” moments in these recordings are always fun to watch.
This heals and breaks my heart at the same time, as any masterful piece of art will do ❤
Let artists make their magic without judgement!! Uncalled for! I love them all!! Every day I listen to the Dead. Think of what we would be missing out on!!
Good Lord, Just played this over and over, tears running down.
same
Your not alone
I was at this show. It was great but I am appreciating it a lot more after watching this. They were all on fire. I always loved Brent and his singing added a lot. I'm so fortunate to have been able to go to shows and find such great friends and an accepting community
Just discovered Brent Mydland out a week or 2 ago. My favorite musician ever! It makes me cry that he died so early. All of the videos with Brent are 🔥 His voice sounds like a guardian angel screaming at the devil.
Welcome. He’s something else no doubt!
Such a succinct description. It hurts.
Most of the GD shows I saw were with Brent....he was just incredible. A combination of James Brown, Little Richard, early Paul Mccartney...The Man!
.
Same here man! Love Brent
I love to hear more people catching on to the magic of Mydland!!
Thank thank thank you. I'm watching this 2 weeks sober brother. Hope you're still clean. Been struggling for years with this shit.
you’ve got this brother!
Just for today!
@Keefo how are you doing brother? I know it's tough, but it gets easier as you go. I'm pulling for you
Still doing good? Clean?
Hope you are doing well in your journey.
Wow! Brent's energy is amazing.
I can only say brain food tm714
Sometimes I just need a refresher to remind me of just how much they mean to me.
I was at this show. Dr. Mr Fantasy possibly their best cover ever. Brent sang like God...
I was there!!! Electric!!
yeah....this was absolutely masterful!!
i totally agree i was there with you
I want there Brent was amazing all night smile smile smile😊😊😊
Me too it was fantastic. When Brent left us it was like getting kicked in the balls.
i shed two tears every time i watch this.
Only two?
Brent and Jerry on fire as usual.. What a connection ..
🔥🤝🔥🤝🔥🤝🔥🌡💣💥🎯♥️✴
John and Jeff have the same connection in Dead n Co
M
From the looks of Brent's eyes , me thinks they might be 'on' something more than fire!
Jameson Newhouse not even close
You can see how happy it makes Brent to make Jerry happy and how Happy Jerry is to have Brent... Its like this is their magic on display right here.
This just proves what an amazing guy Brent was, barely anybody has such soulful vocals and I’m surprised the keys are still on that organ.
Love Brent's time with the dead.. Never met him and never will but you were bad ass and made the Dead for me. Appreciate the great music Brent.
I mostly missed the bus and totally missed the Brent era and earlier. Caught a couple shows in 1991 between turning 18 and leaving for the Navy. But you dont have to know much to see that the relationship between Jerry and Brent was magical.
I was definitely there for this show! This song still is clear as a bell in my mind :)
Unbelievable and to think I was there but unfortunately did not see that but heard about it. Heads were going crazy. Brent really gave his all and Jerry listened and fed back. Rest in peace Jerry and Brent. God bless you.
Brents energy...Jerry's inner peace unleashed ?? Perfection times ten. Ambience second to none.
THIS.
THIS RIGHT HERE. It's like a blessing from God man!
I was just thinking how this has been a semi-shitty Thursday, kida down in the dumps. And I look on my feed, and my favorite version of my favorite combo of covers the Dead EVER is here waiting for me!
God Bless, y'all! Because today just got 1000x times better!
I couldn’t agree more! This is SOLID GOLD one of my favorites.
You hit the nail on the head....this is why we have ears
Cominh on here a YEAR LATER to say this is STILL the best :D
Right here. It's Thursday 😁
This has been my most favorite of any tune because they were all on it plus Jerry was enjoying it so much ! 🐇🐰🌹💀☠️⚡️🎸
I remember being there!! First sober show😊😊
I can't git enough of the Grateful Dead, brings me out of my Funk, they're so Great 😃👌👍
Look at Brent and Jerry kill it. Brent brought so much to the band. Jerry and Brent brought an entirely different energy. Watching them play off each other and jam was so special
✌️GDF
Wow🥲 thank you.
Nice. I used to have this on cassette and I still remember Brent's energy!
I remember this show! The whole tour was great fun!❤️✌️
Love to all the deadheads that r still out there ! ❤️🐇🐰🌹👽🪐🛸👻🥳🎹🎼🧡💜💙💚💛😱😵💫
Just thank God for myself I can keep listening to them here! So missed ❤️
Thanks again for these gifts/gems that pop up on YT that keep on giving... Not a bad bad way to get the day jammin' like it should than a great Brent showcase song from that era that is so revered by many of us... Love Brent! Thanks guys ✌🙏✊😎☕
There’s nothing like a Grateful Dead concert featuring keyboardist BRENT MYDLAND!!!!
@@quinncase8468 Yeah man, totally agree ✌🙏✊😎
OH MY JERRY! I miss my Jerry so much. I'd never seen Brent perform. I was there for Donna. And then returned to my best band in the 90s. Brent was already gone. Jerry still played Vegas for 4 more years. And Traffic was there one year. Brent's eyes are so wild, and he's so raw. Jerry and Brent were magical together. I feel like crying now.
I saw Brent a few times. Pure magic.
They were at their most mature and commensurate. The magic was there that night. It comes through in the music. The timely crescendos and the lazy lumbering notes hitting all the tempo with perfect intrinsic perfection.
Best birthday present ever! I was seven years old on this date. Love the Dead! Miss you
Brent you would have been in the same high school class as my Dad. They would have been friends!
Dear Mr. Fantasy and Hey, Jude are such an organic blend that , of course, only the Dead could find it!!! ♥♥♥
Man the soul...to soul in this. Was watching Bobby's band earlier and had to just come here to get me a little OG soul.
NFA
This show was so unbelievable. I will never forget it. Spent my whole life trying to get the feeling back.... from the mid 80's until Jerry left...
Hi Michelle !!
I got to see them in Maine once . That was Lewiston in 1980 , early September .
Levin Helm opened and The Grateful Dead played three sets !!
That turned out to be Four & A Half hours with the ‘commercials’ (breaks) removed …. WoW !!!
Jerry knows damn good music when he hears it!!! Bless all of them for the memories ❤️❤️❤️
