- "When the Pittsburgh show from 7/8/90 was selected for release as the first View From The Vault, the excellent first set had a couple of major highlights from 1973's Wake Of The Flood: the set-closing Let It Grow, and this Row Jimmy from earlier in the set (to round out the Wake trio, they'd also play Eyes Of The World in the second set). Asked in an interview what was his favourite song to play with the Grateful Dead, Jerry replied Row Jimmy." - David Lemieux

So cool! Thanks a ton! Much love to you! ⚡️❤️⚡️
Very cool. I always thought there was something magical about Row, Jimmy.
Yes, yes, YES!
Jerry is deeply missed!!
❤️ I love the mellow (hot) summer vibe of everyone.
Yes. This is my favorite dead song.
Try not to think about it much--1990 shows were on fire but watching Brent in this video, 18 days later he was gone..... A serious loss to music and the band back then... RIP great player/singer Brent !
I get real emotional watching 90 tour videos. RiP Brent
Jerry proclaimed this as one of his favorite songs and I would have to agree...just fantastic.
Was on my 1st license plate..(here in Richmond,VA)
Had "ROWJMMY" on several VW's from September of '99 to July of 2014...
Have the rear plate hanging on my wall now...
It's my favorite song.
I bet Jerry had hundreds if not thousands of favorite songs
"Ain't got half of what you thought you had."
I have to say it's one of my top Dead tunes. I have a memory of listening to it on a cassette on my way back home from getting fired from my job. I plopped this on and said, screw it and took the long way home. Never returned to a day job again. That was the day my life really started.
@@benkleschinsky this is amazing! What kind of job are you doing since then?
"THAT'S" -Bob Weir 1990
This is the best version of this song live untill that's ..never mind bob ,grow a beard.👍all will be well.
Lmaooo😭😭😭
This whole time I always pictured Jerry doin it..
Appreciate it all none the less!! 🍻
Yo did he really mess up there or was that intentional?
Love Brent's reaction and subsequent improv. Not a Dead show til Jerry fs up the lyrics
Brent's face at 4:20! Brent always loved a good flubbed line!
@@andreapirlol4301 that is true but with every tragedy, the band kept going. Similar to many of their songs, life and death were a big part of both their music and their history. Made all of us appreciate the moments we had and how special they were
all flubbed lines were great. flubbed songs not so much.
Brent really captured the old days of the dead like as if he was some sort of reincarnation of pigpen I bet they’re both jammin it up with jerry up there some where in a shade of grey rolling with jimmy
I think he took it as a challenge. The words weren't there, so he's gotta bring the music!
I love that it happened at 420 also
Row Jimmy is my favorite Dead song.
Me too ✌️
I agree!
I was just thinking that... guys , I’m stuck in a rut and there’s a gun by my side that I think I might wanna try something stupid. I know you can’t just up and help me but I’m throwing my line out there and if there’s any bus I can get on.. I need to get on it because I’m not fit for modern society. I can’t do with all the papers , the loopholes...
@@ruffles886 when you get confused listen to the music play..get out of your own head family. Modern society is what you make it..we create our own existence. Love you..you deserve to make yourself happy!!
@@kerfuffin8070 god advice man honestly
Jerry's voice sounds so beautiful here...
Jerry was a Galactic Wizard of the Highest Psychedelic Order
You are correct

He hits a bit different after Enlightenment. It was right in front of you the w/hole time.
Going through some tough, uncertain times right now, but man, the Dead always ease my pain.

Yeah man. With ya. Good vibes
2023. Hope things are going better for you. Remember it’s temporary.
@@lindamackwer4082 they are! So much. The love in these comment sections is awesome. Thank you
How good is this shit!? Fuckin legends. I’ll listen to their music til the day I die.
Bobby flubs "THATs....the......" and Brent chuckles and fills in some beautiful lines and we move along to the next moment. The Dead in a nutshell
Miscue? Brent to the muthafuggin rescue!
@@adamtisdelle3202 amen to that - I mostly only knew the Brent years when I was regularly seeing shows (85-90 - I tapped out a bit when Vince showed up). And I know everyone has their favorite eras, but hot damn it was big fun hanging out stage left under Jerry and Brent. There were so many smiles between those two and Brent could fill it up from everywhere man - keys and vocals. Way underrated and underappreciated still I feel
A friend of mine played with Bobby twice at Bohemian Grove. He said both times Bobby made a mistake. And he always watched my friend, as if he didn’t know what he was gonna do next. I figure it’s because he was so used to playing with Jerry he was uncomfortable with other guitar players.
Yes

Très impressive
Love to pick your brain...
Im so glad i made it to this show! I had to tie up my muffler from dragging down the highway so i pulled out my speaker wires and wrapped up the muffler.....lol. i got there lol
Brent was beautiful and I can never get enough of this show
Not even 3 weeks before we lost Brent. So good and so sad!
Miss these guys and all the fun they brought with them.
They really were in a class of their own.
GOAT PA
This is LITERALLY the PEAK of the Grateful Dead! Ya, there were some off moments in Summer '90, but when they were ON, they were ON FIRE!!!
The Dead were smoking during the 70’s🧸
@@RiverRat1953 yeah before Donna lol
@@JohnBrown-vx3rxidk man winterland 74 is one of the best shows ever played. That scarlet fire is fucking unbelievable.
Eh idk say 69- 72 was better than 89-92. Jerry pre coma and pre heroin was an absolute unite and pig pen was one hell of a blues singer and most the band was still taking inspiration from psychedelics so the jams would just go way into space (when pig-pen could keep up on keys at least). Overall I think there's a specific energy tied along to that 69-72 period that they never really got back afterwards. Plus that's probably when they wrote their best material from golden Road to anthem to aoxomoxoa to live dead working man's/beauty to skull and roses they released some of the most legendary songs known to man in the matter of 3 years. Personally I would say that's a peak.
1990 was hot as lava. Boys were on fire. Summer tour was so much fun. Spring too. Missed Brent. So sad.
I grew up at Dead Shows, mom was youngest of 5 and WOW I can remember the '70's,'80's and all the way to the end but I used to LOVE when they played this, especially with Brent! I remember we used to save our bubbles & chase em around and try and pop em on rhythm! I inherited my mom's tapes which usually came directly from the board but this version I was older but this song always reminds me of being a kid & having fun ; )
Bob Weir is so underrated. Wonderful guitarist
He is rated just fine.
Just dug out my ticket: Level 1 Club Box Sec 19 row Q seat 6. Of course, it turned out to be the last Dead show I would attend. like so many others, I love the Dead still.
Notes of love and joy just flowing. The memories……….Ahhh. Thanks boys for all the years.
I sit here and listen with a tear in my eye, is it because I am old, 69, or is it because I will never see the Dead again in this life😹
It's in the ❣️
I was there, fresh out of high school with my buddy Tony (rip), we did that whole tour. Seems like yesterday. I'll never forget the Eyes Of The World and Let It Grow from this show.
are you f ing kidding me. best version i've seen / heard in a while. I am a new head though. Cannot believe I wasted so many years before I ""got it"
Jerry had such a presence on stage!
He and Ronnie Van Zant come to mind. Barely moved but every eyeball on them at all times!
I miss jerry big ❤️ just goes to show you that God always takes the best
Beautiful. Perfect for this cloudy, melancholy day.
Broken heart don't feel so bad
Ain't got half a what you thought you had
Rock your baby to and fro
Not too fast and not too slow
God bless Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia
When I look at Jerry singing this his face just reveals deeper fractal filigree, the splendour of colours in his furrowed brow. I need to dose soon. Look at him!
A little bit of heaven….Row Jimmy Row..😊
I always enjoyed this tune on tour.. Jerry always seemed to deliver a heartfelt effort. To this day a top 5 song for me.
Jerry said this was one of his favorites to play.
How does Jerry do that with his guitar? It sounds like little bits of happiness floating into space.
Exactly ☝️💯
Knows his triads, scales and alternates between standard and triplet timing. He was a genius.
Miydland was dead two weeks later

Jerry was always the focus. Just before around 5 minutes in, in Brent's solo, all eyes are on Jerry. amazing
I absolutely love the way Jerry and Bob played off each other.
Was there on that hot summer day. The the hot air balloon flys over during this song. 🎈🎈💀🌹⚡
You’re very lucky🍺🍄
I was there too! Fun show!
also there....young and stupid, drank myself into oblivion missing most all of it.... fortunate to have this to enjoy.
Hot summer day in da 'Burgh and too much SoCo outside Three Rivers.....
I was there on the floor about 30 rows back in front of Bobby. Opium and nugs on a warm summer day. A beautiful memory. I miss it all, but I'm glad I was there.

The whole band - Stoned Immaculate
Had this on DVD as a kid, my dad loved this song he'd always tune in when this came on in the living room since we only had one DVD player in the whole house back then. Great times
Was therr. Somebody slipped a ten strip in my beer and I freaking lost it. Merry pranksters.
I got dosed in Vegas at a show once. June of 94, it was 100 plus degrees and there were many 'water' bottles. Me and a buddy walked into a loaded one. Not the way I prefer to experience that. Fortunately, I had a frame of reference, but it's not the way to go. Not for me. Perhaps, it was cool, in the 60s, via the pranksters, but I still feel it should be one's personal choice. What a trip!

@@MrXdigitechx Yes, indeed. Shakedown St abounded with 'party favors', back then. We were at The Flamingo, playing the slots at night, when I could've swore the letters read, 'Better head back to Tennessee, Jed'!
And, I've never even been to Tennessee. Lol.
This one hit me right in the feelers...
Me n my ex's favorite. 7 years later and it still hurts so good.

I miss Jerry so much......
Very nice version.. Not too fast /and not too slow!
and a jjjerry ooops ;)
I was like 2.5 years old at the time of this show. I had no knowledge of anything outside of my own little world. But having the opportunity to live vicariously through recordings is a blast. Not as awesome as being there, but still a wonderful experience.
I was 3.5 and im from pittsburgh wish i could have gone!
@@puttblugg123 I would’ve been almost two. I was wondering where this was and sort of forgot 3 rivers existed for a second.
It’s funny cuz i wish i was a teenager in the 70s but I was born in Pittsburgh in 1971 and you guys just reminded me I was born at the right time, to be 18 and close up front at this show at 3 Rivers stadium was purely transcendent. Never even thought for a moment of the Pirates or Steelers games I’d seen there. The Grateful Dead owned that stadium and took it and 50,000(?) of us to their dimension. A more perfect world. A peak experience in my life. One of the perfect second sets. Find it on the archive ( Attics of My Life app… highly recommended.)☮️❤️🙂
I was there. Front row. Lucky.
The only time I went to a show without a ticket. Picked up a 5th row seat after being in the lot for about 3 minutes. Paid face value. Danced all night. Hitched a ride back to Columbus afterwards.
@@StickyBit7777 right on. I wish man.
No better row for Jimmy Row
Was there with my one of my best friends... and just two months after meeting my future wife at a Living Earth show at the Ambler Cabaret.
What a magical time.
The inimitable playing by Jerry. 🎵🎸
There was a symbiotic relationship between them & their fans. It's like they made a sound only their fans could hear. They had a broader appeal on a few songs like most iconic bands, but outside of that the rest of their songs didn't even exist for most outside of their true fans. It was like a dog whistles affect. I had some dead head friends from all over both coasts & inbetween. When a dead song went on, they went on to, like they were part of the band & I was more amused by that than the song. Then there was the dead head look. Even when they were not dressed the part at work, you could still tell they were dead heads. It's was like there was someone inside the camouflage screaming to get out. It did seem like a mystical phenomenon. We use to kid about 1 or 2 joint movies & at one time I thought it was the same for songs, but I came to realize a Dead Head didn't need drugs for that connection any more than anyone liked whipped creme on their Sunday. It was just another sweet with a different texture that just enhanced the 1st treat. I don't no about laws of attraction. We often look for absolutes or formulas to prove our theories of why this or that, but I'm begining to think there aren't any except for one: "Birds of a feather flock together".
Absolutely brilliant what you just put into words.

Shout out to any of my Gratefully Deadicated heads out there from Pittsburgh yinz guys rule!! I’m eternally Greatful on this Thanksgiving day to have access to listening and seeing footage of the best band on earth, or as Bill Graham puts it

They all seened to enjoy playing this😊
It's crazy how good jerry looked here.... :(
A diety.
Looks good but not in a young way for sure. Still old for 47
@@MarvinMonroe To quote Robbie Robertson, "The Road Ages you man..."
He always looked the same to me. Mysterious, kind, in some sort of agony himself (at the least, unhappy; probably in constant physical pain), living in at least two different worlds (this one understood too well but found too trivial to him), knowing a lot buy saying just a very little that we would understand, god-like, .....
I saw him one time in 1990. He was positively glowing. No other way to describe it. 6-23-90 in broad daylight. It seemed like he was 7 feet tall and made of titanium but a heart of gold.
Brent is absolutely 💯 firing on all cylinders. Wow!
Some of the best years.
It’s all about Jerry, always has been, always will be
Don't forget Brent after Jerry. Brent was right up there though with that weight, emotion, your all.
