I’m a plumber whose about to do his first column radiator next week and I’ve watched videos but never thought to use a support underneath and then do the marking that way. It’s taken a lot of stress away. Thank you my friend
Why not hang the radiator 1st and add the valves, once in position you mark the holes for the pipes. You then take the rad back off and get the pipes into position....
Love your work and your enthusiasm mate. Another job well done. 👍🏾
Hello mate thanks a lot :) I’m glad you like my stuff!
MMG - Moon Man Guitar thanks mate :)
Great job mate. Plain and simple. Just made my next project so much easier
I’m glad you found it helpful mate
Tremendous video mate, really well explained with really good simple instructions. 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it :)
love your videos, and Im a tradesman, personally I'd drop the music fwiw. Keep them coming!
Thanks mate ;)
Cheers Matt BRILLIANT every thing ,all your information i needed & was simple ,had same radiator too !!!!
Amazing! I’m glad it helped mark :) would mean a lot to me if you’d be happy to subscribe :) and I’ll see you in the next video
Already subscribed Matt 😀 Cheers 🍻 👍
Well done mate. Well explained
I am a plumber and really enjoyed the video great work
I’m having new rads but have 10mm pipes…obviously new valves have 15mm pipes…How do we make the connection?
Thanks Matt - very clear helpful instructions 🍺
Easiest way to get height is.
1 - measure from floor to bottom of bracket.
2 - add that to the distance you want the rad from the floor.
3 - measure distance from bottom of rad to centre of valve and subtract from above distance to give height bottom brackets go on the wall.
Great job. Help me a lot with my middle connection vertical radiator where pipes were already done . Thanks
I’m glad you found it helpful:)
Matt that was a nice video please don't take any notice of the trolls that lurk around U Tube ,your video was informative and to the point for any DIYer to learn from , I think the thread tape was a bit to much but other than that well done .
Many thanks :)
Great video, well done.
You probably did a better job yourself than most tradesmen would do But I guess most would want to hang the rad first and then bring the pipes up to the valves on soldered elbows to save a lot of time and effort. What you did was good stuff but it must've taken a hell of a long time especially with all those packers and I'm not sure I'd like the idea of balancing the whole radiator on the toolbox in case it slipped off and caused a lot of damage. Also there are definitely issues with marking a bracket like you did and then drilling and plugging the wall and fixing the bracket-in other words you can end up moving the whole thing by a few millimetres either way and that can make all the difference to getting those pipes lined up.Fairplay for doing it this way I've done a few myself this way and it does take a long time taking and checking measurements repeatedly so everything lines up.
Graet video thanks. I installed one a while ago......but it struggles to get hot.....flow and return are both at the bottom.......but not sure if it should be fitted with an internal baffle to direct the water the top?
Well done mate!
11:49 a very helpful video. Thanks.
Just one question:
If the ‘in’ and ‘out’ pipes are the wrong way around, could I just turn the radiator upside down to correct this, or would this affect the working of the radiator?
I’m trying to avoid chasing out a large section of wall.
Nice effort , I did think you where icing a cake with the amount of paste you put on that joint......🍰🍰🍰
Cheers.....👍
Top man.
Ever fit the auto bleed valves?
Just come across your video and was thinking of getting this style radiators the eBay store is really cheap in comparison to the Milano Aruba radiators selling online was wondering if you have had any problems with the rad since your installation?
Helpful video thanks, what brand of radiator is this please?
I'm currently lost in a mindfield of similar looking rad's and annoyingly not easy to see them 1st hand.
Straight off eBay ;) rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232659747483
matt have a double same one doesnt fully heat up the left connection pipe not thermo. one is not hot? I'm thinking changing the radiator do I have to drain system?
Hi what are the best radiator brands you'd recommend?
Hi Matt did you put inhibitor on the system again? and how?
Hey,
Did you attach the bottom brackets AFTER connecting the valves to the pipes - i.e by hinging from the top brackets? If not, how did you lift rad onto the bottom brackets with valves in place?
Thanks 👍🏻
13:26 - he explains how he is going to attach the bottom brackets and says clearly that next he will show you how to connect the pipes
Great job, do you think replacing all radiators to designer ones will pay off in the added value to property? I currently have the whole heating system out and purchased a vertical for the kitchen. Looks so good unboxing I'm now considering doing all the rest! Not as much BTU as type 21 but they do look nice.
Im glad you liked the video :) I’m not really sure, property value. Might be worth asking an estate agent. I’ve always thought kitchens abs bathrooms were the money makers
@@MattHutton Thanks for your reply. I'm under the impression an average new kitchen cost £7000 but only adds £4000 to property (depending on current kitchen condition) Most people think of replacing kitchen when they look round a house.
New boiler cost average £2000 but adds £8000 to value average.
Off road parking, CCTV security, efficient and "smart" eco is a better investment. I'm trying to keep kitchen cost below 3.5k all in everything personally. Still nice but... Bathroom is worth it 💯.
@@E69apeTheMatrix420 depends where you are buying your kitchen and how big it is. My kitchen has come in at £18,000 but my appliances are £9,000 🙈
looks great top installation enjoyed the video.
Thanks mate, I’m glad you liked it :)
Put some masking tape on your metal spanners, will leave the metal fixings unscuffed and looking cleaner, awesome video to
Was this on a plasterboard wall? What fixings did you use? Many thanks
It was suck to osb board, with grab adhesive www.toolstation.com/adhesives-sealants/grab-adhesive/c403
It would stick just as well to plasterboard
I have one of these radiators fitted recently in my identify plan kitchen everytime I open my sink in bathroom downstairs and slide it a few seconds later if u go next to the radiator it makes a bubbles water noise fir a few seconds. This is the same if I open and close my sink in kitchen. I've had a new boiler installed a week ago. Anyone know what cud be the reason if of my issue and a solution please.
can any of these vertical style radiators be plumbed from the top ?. all my radiators downstairs have pipes running all the way down the walls from the ceiling (unsightly) thanks.
The holes at the top are the same as at the bottom so you can plumb the valves at the top. But you might have trouble bleeding the air out of them. As the air rises to the top.
You could still bring the pipe down from the ceiling and fit to valves at the bottoms of the radiators.
How do you drain off to paint behind?
Tidy just curious what you doing aboit the gaps around the pipes at the wall? Thanks
Hey, thanks for watching my video :) if the hole is small enough you can cover it with a pipe collar. If it’s a little larger you’ll need to fill it a little first with some kind of filler. Make sure to protect the pipe with masking tape because some fillers has cement in them which is bad on copper. Best regards, Matt
@@MattHutton that makes sense the pipe collars do they not go on first ? Or do some (i think I've seen them ) with a slit that can expand to fit over the 15mm pipe ? I'm currently doing the boys room that's no issue taken rads off before and installed to existing.....I have horrid 8mm microbore and we will be fitting one if these in our kitchen hopefully soon ive put a small one in there fir now prob only has about 1000btu but its only temp its a warm hoise ive considered bedding the pipes into the wall as it wouod be a lot neater and given that they usually pertrude from the wall it be better to do so ......soz for waffling on great informative video ill likeky use as a guide when I do ours .......I may fix rad level and plum (not plumb it ) then mark where the pipes need to be then I can channel upwards to the ceiling/floor boards insulate pipes then infill with gyproc easyfill at least thats the plan
nice one
Glad you liked the video :)
Which radiator is this please? Make/model? Tks
Is there any advantage to using vertical radiators?
Not really, just for aesthetics. Horizon radiators are better for convection and circulating the hot air around the room. :)
Great video but the reason I watched was to see which wall fixing you used I’ve bought 2 similar rads from trade radiators and they are really heavy even without the water.
Maybe record attaching the wall fixings next time.
I have OSB board behind the plaster board so I just used the screws that came with the brackets. What’s your wall made from?
@@MattHutton plaster board my son is an apprentice heating engineer for the council but I don’t think he has fitted anything this heavy before?
@@garethlaidler539 ruclips.net/video/aeFyQS2NGVM/видео.html this video might help you with plasterboard fixings
I would like one on a stud wall…but I’ve been told the wall needs to be braced first… Is this correct?
It’s hard to tell without seeing it. Does it sound hollow when you tap it?
@@MattHutton yes… it’s a stud wall between two rooms.
@@MattHutton I looked at these from this company before I saw your video. Did you have any problems with them? Is the radiator working ok and is it as hot as the original style.y plumber seems to think they are inadequate
@@supermum6099 i’ve had them installed for nearly three years and they’re perfect. If the radius is not too heavy you should be able to hang it on a wall that has plasterboard and skim coat over the top as long as you use some really strong plasterboard fixings I think it has two screw holes per bracket and four brackets so you should get a good grip on the wall.
If it’s just plasterboard that’s been painted and the plasterboard has been taped and jointed then it might need some reinforcement depending on what size radiator you want. If you don’t wanna reinforce the wall maybe choose a smaller radiator around 3-400mm wide by 1.8m tall. But without seeing it I’m just completely guessing. But that would be my thought process. Please don’t take my comment as conclusive advice.
Hate these brackets, they have zero play! Had similar radiator on and off so many times I get it close but it seems like the curve on the bracket isn’t small enough so the radiator wobbles a little. My wall is not square so I assume that’s what making it off, and my brackets are singular (one hook) not double whammy like in video. Ah we’ll try again tmrw with my packers 😢
Hang the radiator on the top hook first so that you know it’s in contact. Then offer up the bottom hook after and mark out the screw holes for the position you need in order to get zero play.
@@MattHutton - yup I did that. My brackets aren’t the same as yours in that they have a single hook, not two. I suspect the price of the radiator was too good so they gave me naff brackets. However I position bottom brackets there is a gap forwards and backwards (not horizontal) which to me, isn’t right. Either the bracket is too big, or the white washer is incorrect for the job and doesn’t hold the curve bit tight. I stuck a bit of folded cardboard in the gap which did the trick will have to do. Thanks though
I'm still trying to find out how to install the termostate valve?
pro tip : you can watch series at instaflixxer. I've been using it for watching loads of movies recently.
@Junior Jaxon yea, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
Can you hang this straight on plaster board
Hmmm depends how heavy the radiator is. Ideally it would be best to screw into Wood or brick behind.
If anyone pulls on the radiator or pushes it plasterboard isn’t too strong to fix into.
@@MattHutton how was yours fixed in
@@SB-li8zz I put osb board behind the plaster board before I had it all plastered because I knew I was going to hang the radiator there.
@@SB-li8zz you can get some very good plasterboard fixings though like these: ruclips.net/video/aeFyQS2NGVM/видео.html
What you pipe 15mm or 10
Fuckin beautiful
Touched a drill and called it a screw driver. Touched a crescent wrench and called it a screw driver.
Touched a pair of grips/water pump pliers and called it a monkey wrench.
Good. But music? NO!
Hi thank you so much for the comment I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’m sorry about the music I don’t usually do the videos with music but I thought I’d give it a go this time. Lesson learned
Great video!, Fantastic content, However not digging that sh#te music, Cheers.
Nice video but why the annoying music
White ptfe on a grey rad looks poo, get some liquid ptfe instead.
Obviously your not a plumber by trade so ill take a guess your a joiner or maybe no trade at all.
Keep er lit!
I’m nothing to you
Pretty much idiot proof nice job add boiler additive job done.don’t add a heat pump regret that for sure nightmare haha
Jesus, that's far too much tape, you only need a few wraps to lubricate and seal any gaps.
