I’ve watched a lot of RUclips how-to guitar videos but I think this just might be the best presented one. Definitely learned a lot I will add to my own playing of this Who classic.
I found your account today and I have been watching all your lessons. I just want to say that I really enjoyed them and I'm going to try to play this one tonight :) love the way you played this song!
Ryan Rock on glad to see you pay tribute to Pete. Could you teach well a million, but Acid Queen or I'm a Sensation by the who. Cool I'm 58 picked guitar up after 23 years of rugby ,can't golf right, hip replacement coming . I had not played since 33 but I got to see the World. Also saw the Who 3 times, now and I can play behind blue eyes thanks to you
Your lessons are the best on here, I each one is great and so much better than using tabs to learn songs. You've covered pretty much every PJ song I can think of but I haven't found Blood, whenever you get the chance, you think you can do Blood?
hehe in my unofficial tally in my head I feel like we've done 30% of the PJ songs :P At any rate, thank you, and thanks for being here! I'll definitely do Blood. My electric guitars are in a moving truck at the moment, and I cannot wait to get back to the rockers :)
This is so intricate. My level of comprehension is low at this point. I'll revisit when I can get my dumptruck up the ladder. Keep going, I'll ketchup.
Ryan, I have a question regarding your Betterman chord that is used in Plush. D/F”Bass I believe it’s called. I’ve been trying to play the bass with my thumb combined with a regular D chord to no avail. I haven’t seen it played in the Betterman style, is this a direct replacement for the chord I was trying to play? Lastly, do you play the high e in your version or is it muted? Many thanks for your time.
howdy Justin :) Mute the high E string if you're not doing the thumb method. Those two ways of playing the same chord are interchangeable (unless you really really want to hear the high F#. which I have yet to find myself wanting to do)
How many plucking patterns could a pattern plucker pluck if a pattern plucker could pluck patterns? He'd pluck as many patterns as a pattern plucker could pluck if he was Pete Townshend. A plucking great lesson as always! :)
Man!! I’m so stoked about this song! Haha that’s funny about the yellow led better. I have been looking for different ways to play it. I have two. The way you taught! Then one where it’s just Eddie and Mike on stage. I forgot where they are. I think The Bridge School.Mike is using an accoustic. And the last bar of the intro he plays it a little different without the slide. Man since we are on Yellow Ledbetter. You know the note right before you go to the B major. The 7th fret 6 string which is a B note. The one Mike plays with his thumb. For some reason I can’t get that part to sound good. I have the whole song but that one part! Any alternative? You know which note I’m talking about? I haven’t got to a diffetent way to play the verses Besides using open EAB. Is there any other very different ways the verses are played?
I know what you mean about the thumb. I have tinkered with the thumb method and don't find it something I care to be able to do well, so I usually just play that B note with my pointer finger and then go on to do the F shaped B. it's not exactly right, but it's good enough for me :) and nope. you got it - stone just plays EBAE on the acoustic for the whole song. Mike noodles.
Yea I have to use my pointer finger too! I meant when I go to hit that note after the D string it just doesn’t go good with the song. I thnk I am messing my timing up. After I hit that B note. I imeaditly go to the B major. It’s sounds like I changing chords on the wrong count of the Barr? Is that B note mikes hits with his thumb, the end of the Barr to go to the B major. Or is it the 3 beat. Then there is still another note in the Barr? Before yu got to B major? Do you know what I mean lol.
Philly is great so far - so refreshing that everyone isn't running around like zombies with no other purpose than to pay the mortgage like in the bay. thank you for asking Troy!

Ryan Lendt Holy cow! Thats awesome thanks man
The first song my dad learned, and the second song I learned😜
wow - that's quite an undertaking for the first song to learn - or the second!
That makes me curious as to what your first song was then?......
This is so intricate. My level of comprehension is low at this point. I'll revisit when I can get my dumptruck up the ladder. Keep going, I'll ketchup.
hehe I say ketchup too! don't be afraid to just play the chords and strum!
Dont you think for a moment I'm not trying over here. 😆
1:47 man this gives me the... E, B, G, Bies?!
ha!
Super nice lesson Ryan. I know you play a Taylor guitar, but which model is it? It has a very nice tone
it's a 2003 410ce - thank you! I played many 2003 410ce's to find this exact one, every acoustic guitar sounds a little different :)

Thanks Ryan. Great lesson!!! How’s Philadelphia treating you?
