Need For Speed 2 was the first game I got as a kid with my Playstation 1. This car, the XJ220 and the Mclaren F1 have always been among my top tier cars because of this game.
So cool!
Its not better than the Trex , log or outhouse tho.

I had nfs II too in 97 and I absolutely dreamed it
For you to be able to sit in this peice of American history is amazing! Thank you for putting this out there, this car was the stuff of dreams for many kids like me that grew up in the 90's. Thank you!!

NFS II bruh. It was the first game to feature this car.
I redid that part more times then I could count so I was saying it but it did not make it on that cut!
Was defintly my favorit car in that game back then. Brings back some great memorys!
And copperhead
This car just transports me back to my childhood and me playing NFS II SE. I loved this car back then and I still love it now.
90's and even 2000's concept cars were crazy, one of the best eras. Nowadays everything is just too plain and unexciting.
This car defined a era in my eyes!
Man You just revived my passion I had for this car so long ago. Time has slipped by.
Honored to do so!
my jaw dropped when i heard that the gt90 prototype is here in my home state of oklahoma :D and at a motorsports museum i didn't know even existed im gonna have to revive an old birthday tradition of mine and come there this year the gt90 is my favorite car from ford racing and pgr lol and its every bit as awesome as i would have imagined
Deff worth the trip!!
This is a concept car i remember him on the Need For Speed SE back on the days...
Yes!!
The more I think about it, it would be cool to see jay Leno have this in his collection. Because at least we would see it run and drive. And perhaps one day they would hookup up all 4 turbos. To see what it really sounded like. And I bet With jays connections to ford, he could bring some folks on his channel to talk about it's development more. Or perhaps the owner of this museum could let jay feature this on his channel someday. Only thing is jay would want to buy it and not let it leave his garage !
Jay wants to film it but him and owner have not worked it out yet but the owner drives this car it’s not just always in garage
@@farfromaverageautomotive thank you for replying! It's terrific the owner drives it And not a garage queen. I hope him and jay work something out. I hope their is more of a deep dive into the v12, quad turbos and the transmission setup. It would be cool if the owner posted a couple videos of him starting and driving it around sometime. Their is just zero info and content on this car. Thank you!

I used to have this as a model car when I was little. I was obsessed with it.
It’s a iconic car!
Man knowing its inside a museum in America now. I really hope to see this car geting laser scaned so it can pop up in a game like Forza Horizon. That would be such a blast to have there!
Right that would be wild!!
I remember that car from need for speed on pc back in the late 90's. Also Ford Indigo roadster
Yes!!
Maybe you also remeber the secret Hollywood track with that gigantic jump in blade runner set of the track.
And maybe you rember that it was totally possible to kick the little indigos out of the way with a car like the GT90. I know a old friend of mine loved to do that back in the day. He was facinated every single time seeing the indigos flying around from that jump XD
I first saw this car in the OG Xbox Sega GT2002 game. still looks just as good as when I first saw it.
Yes it dose!!
I had this as a hot wheels and 18th scale model. Always wondered where it went.
Now you know!
I can't believe Ford would not keep this car forever.
Pretty wild!
Need For Speed II?
Yes!
As a kid, I spent dozens of hours trying to figure out how to win GT90 in Gran Turismo 2, but never won it, even after winning every race and tournament in the game. It stood there in the Ford dealer taunting me for 15 years
Haha I think we all been there!😅😅
You win it in the Seattle Circuit endurance race (60 Laps). There’s a 50% chance of winning it. This thing was beast but there’s no track where u can unleash its full power in that game unfortunately.

That’s the sexiest vehicle they’ve ever made, beautiful vehicle.

Ford is sitting on a gem. They can easily make this with a V8 and price it similar to a Z06 and sell out
i agree!!
That would be awesome! Though I highly doubt this was up to code in the 90's and it certainly isn't today. Would absolutely need design changes to meet today's safety standards and current manufacturing processes. Especially to be priced at Z06 pricing.
@@snowshoes5942 ya they would have to build from ground up and interior would be all new. But exterior design and branding is ready to go
Why have two mid-engine production cars? the Ford GT in 05 and 17+ proved that its the only one the mainstream cares about... GT90 was a concept that lead to the Ford GT concept in 2002/03
@@NXT_LVL make one affordable
My favorite Ford ever produced. This car was my absolute jam in Sega GT 2002 (Xbox) and Rush 2 (N64). Such a shame it never saw production. The GT90 and Chrysler ME Four-Twelve will forever be my favorite American hypercars. A reminder that Detroit used to be capable of producing world-dominating hypercars.
Forgot about PGR3 somehow. Sad how little representation this car got in video games, considering its radical, very futuristic design and performance. I would kill over dead if the latest Forza Horizon game did a retro prototype DLC drop that included the ME412 and GT90.
Heck yeah I agree!!
@@iwasadeum I just replayed PGR3 just to get this car after filming!
If Ford had made it then, this would undisputedly would have the same value Mclaren F1 has today. This car had better specs than the F1.

@@ButterfatFarms I respect that!
@@farfromaverageautomotive back in the mid-90s it was an amazing car for sure and still is. The 90s really weren't a great decade for automotive styling to begin with. I feel like a lot of Automotive styling from the 90s hasn't aged well. I wouldn't say anything bad about the GT90 I just never got it personally. It is incredibly unique and iconic and there's no other car quite like it that's for sure. I would love to watch a video on what iterative design styling concept was behind this car and how they arrived at what they finally did. The guys on the design team for this who are still with us they should all be interviewed.
@@ButterfatFarms I agree!
This belongs in a museum.
This was my FAVORITE car in need for speed game from back in the day.
It was the best!
It never clicked for me why I loved the Jaguar XJ220 so much until I watched this video. I remember drooling over the GT90 in Gran Turismo 2, although I would never unlock it (until I used cheats years later as a teen with Codebreaker). Gran Turismo 3, however, I unlocked the XJ220 legit. Same for GT4, GT5, and GT6. Even if there are things that differentiate between the two, the XJ220 did carry a torch on behalf of the GT90 and was a great car across several games.
I hope todays racing games could bring back the GT90 just for the new generation of car enthusiasts to try out.
Would be so sick my wife and I cleaned my closet this week and found my old 360 and i sped play though PG3 to unlock it in a day! So weird to play it in that game have been inside of it in real life!
Don’t forget Need For Speed, that’s how I know this car. What makes this the coolest car ever? The fact that you can’t own it.
I said need for speed but had to reshoot that so many times the one we went with did not have it! Sorry!

Don’t we all?
I raced as that thing all the time in Need for Speed 2 and I had a poster of it above my bed back in 1997. I haven’t thought about that thing since the 90s so thanks for the video. Does anyone else remember the Ford Indigo?

Saw this in back to the future 2 parked in the back ground. This icon represented the future in that movie.
I did not know it was in that movie!
@@farfromaverageautomotive The scene was when Marty was in the town square in the future, the GT90 was parked in the background. Can't remember if it was before or after the 3D shark lunged at him from the movie theater billboard.
@@akngac5 I’m gonna go watch that
Um it's not in that movie be cause back to the future came to theaters in 1989! This gt90 was from 1995. There is a white bean shaped concept car in there parked next to the Cafe 80's. And that is the 1987 Pontiac pursuit. Motorweek tv did a review on it. And that's on you tube. So maybe you got it confused with that.
That's back to the future 2.
And it was interesting to see the Pontiac dealer sign in the town square since Pontiac went dead in 2010.
So the movie got that one wrong.
I remember when this popped up in the mid 90s. If I recall, the design was the concept to see if the public would accept it. The UK Ford's following it had similar sharp lines (Focus Mk1 and Fiesta definitely)
Yes sir!
Somebody needs to make this into a kit car

Such a good looking car! . Looks so fresh even today! . FORD really need to put this into full production. Not some limited run nonsense . And do it soon before we can no longer buy petrol cars!
Very valid!

Same thoughts i just recently googled if ford managing to start producing this development , but unfortunately no , but anyway who knows if we got a huge number of people asking for it on their ford performance ig account , they may think about it if we kept the pressure up on them
That would be amazing all though I feel like that would be tricky since the only own is in a privet collection I would think this guy would need to sign off on it !
They could sell 1,000 over night for $1 Million each… and there would be a waiting list 3 times as long…
I can't believe you didn't show us the engine.
who said it had an engine
@@joreal3759 It has an engine and it runs, though VERY poor. This prototype was fully functional and the engine was made entirely by Ford. Before the museum took it, the car was being held in storage without much care. Last time someone attempted to start it, it barely did.

@@farfromaverageautomotive You mean Veyron.
a car ahead of its time and relevant today, a great sports car, if only they would release it
I never knew why they didn't sell this made to order. They clearly did all the R&D to make it driveable, if they sold it made to order, a bunch of millionaires would have paid whatever they charged and at least we'd have a few in the wild.
Would have been sick!
They would've had to slaughter an XJ220 for every car they made. Since Jaguar ended the production run for the XJ220, because they lost money on every unit sold, they were basically out 250.000$ of then-money for every car before adding the changes. It was simply deemed too expensive and also they didn't want to butcher that many XJ220, and developing a whole new chassis would've been prohibitively expensive.
Ford could have bought licensing for the XJ and just made a copy of it., allready lengthened for the GT90
@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 They were also using a heavily modified powertrain that was borrowed from an Aston Martin, and they didn't want to eat into the new model sales at the time. But I seriously would have sacrificed Aston Martin (at the time) for the GT90 given the long-term value of the car.

You did a awesome job explaining the detail on this car, what a beautiful car, you would never know it’s a 1995..
Thank you!!
It's really a timeless design
Yea it is!
This set the "New Edge" design language for Ford in the mid 90's - you can see the influence mostly on the European range, models like the original Focus, Ka, Puma, Cougar and Mondeo which were everywhere.
Intresting!
Still looks modern!
Right?!
My first experience with this car was as a 1:18 scale die cast model made by the Maisto brand, back when I was a kid in the 90's. Then, in Gran Turismo. This car is more iconic than most give it credit, as it gave birth to Ford's New Edge design. The Puma, Cougar, Mustang, Mondeo, Ka, and other Ford cars from this time all owe their very characteristic look to this car.
I'm glad this car is still being kept, even as just a display piece. I read last person who owned it kept it in very poor shape, pretty much forgotten in storage. The car's mechanical components are all in pretty bad shape and it barely starts, if it even does. You can kind of see it's a bit rough.
Although unlikely, I hope someday, someone can take on the task of restoring this unique piece. Or at least see it in a modern video game. Although that is also unlikely due to licensing. But one can hope!
Yes I agree fully with that and backs what the owner told me!

My comment is for those who are going to say Bugatti copied Ford by using 4 turbos. Bugatti was the first company to use 4 turbos in the 1991 V12 EB110.
And the EB110's turbos worked as well as the car actually being made and sold.
Huge difference.

I remember when I saw this car on one of the major automotive publications at the time...maybe Car & Driver. I was so disappointed that they didn't move forward with producing it. The design was wild! I loved the designs for concept cars that were coming out at the time. Brilliant. I do remember the publication bemoaned the fact that the tires weren't grippy and or useless due to the logo "GT90" being used as tread in the tires but it looked cool. Thanks for making this video! I have seen it in person. My ex girlfriend worked at the Golden Eagle (GE) as a server, the GE was attached to the The Dearborn Inn Marriott. The Big wigs would bring friends a business partners to the GE after running the GT 90 at the Ford Proving Grounds which was right across the street on Oakwood and Rotunda. I got a close look one day when we went to pick up her paycheck. I also saw it at distance in 94-95. My high school dream car haha. Still looks insane even by today's standards. It was the original design concept for Ford's "new edge" styling era. These days I do chuckle at the "253mph" top speed, pretty sure Ford never tested that claim, I'm not sure the GT90 has ever been driven hard in it's entire existence.
