They were the 1st on the front cover of the first WH40K rulebook and all they get these days are some upgrade sprues in a box with Imperial Fists on the front cover as a Christmas exclusive !! I prefer their colour scheme more so than Ultramarines.
Great video Rob. Watching it makes me wanna finally learn the edge highlight technique as you are right and Space Marines are all about the edge highlight.
Hi, Rob! Thanks for your tutorials!! Just finished painting first of the Farstrider's band exactly like you did it on the video. Looks amazing :) Thank you!!
This is the template paint guide for most (not all, Space Wolves, Custodes etc) Space Marines. I have had some SERIOUS problems with applying GW washes where i get my perfectly airbrushed (say) smooth Macragge Blue coffee stained with the wash even if i immediately try to move it around with a different wet brush. So I'm trying gloss varnish then the wash on top so it runs into the cracks and recesses easier, I've had some success and it's easier but not foolproof.
Rob in these videos it would be nice if you left at normal speed the part where you outline the mini, for beginners a visual guide of how to place the brush is a great help.
If you can reliably paint Space Marine eyes, you are a god lol. Good stuff, Crimson Fists are my main army so I love to see vids like this (mine aren't nearly this nice, though I'm redoing my Dreadnought and Terminators so hopefully there will be some improvement there). Definitely taking a crack at edge highlighting.
Hi Tom, sadly Rob passed away in 2022. My advice would be to use the flow improver with the paint on the palette, the same way you would if you were thinning with water. Have a few drops of the paint and a drop of the flow improver separate and take a little bit of the flow improver and mix it into the paint until you get the desired consistency 😊
I found a good method for edge highlighting (if you are struggling to get clean thin lines) is the drybrush the highlights on before washing then come back in and paint the base colour over the flat panels - this fixes the wash stains and cleans of the drybrush scuffing on the flat panels. Thoughts?
how would i go about weathering highlights and scratches for these guys, what colors? (doesnt have to be exact like citadel just asking what color scheme for weathering)
I use the same varnish as you do but I always end up with a very glossy finish. What am I doing wrong? Do you thin it down when putting it through your airbrush?
You have to give it a REALLY good shake to make sure the talc is mixed into the varnish properly. All varnishes are glossy the only difference is how much matting agent is in them and the matting agent and varnish tend to separate very quickly.
Sorry mate but the link for the equiptment doesnt work. I just wanna know what brushes you use, can you link them in this comment please geeza? Great video btw I dont even paint space marines but your content is just good
Thanks for the great tutorials. I just picked up some liquitex flow aid to try out. It's also mixed at 1:20 with water. Can you pre-mix this in a bottle? I've heard it will go bad and maybe stink.
It's fine to pre-mix. I've got a 250ml dropper bottle I use for the job. So long as your water is clean to start with and you aren't dunking your brush in it you'll have no problems.
That would be a Brokentoad size 1 which I believe are now out of production. I started out trying to use a Redgrass Games Size 3/0 but I couldn't get along with it so I switched.
I don't really get a "how to paint" video using airbrush but not explaining how to do those parts with a brush. The vast majority of hobbyists do not use an airbrush.
This is one of the most helpful and straight forward tutorials I've seen. Thank you for your'e attention to detail and explanations.

Looks fantastic man. Definitely going to use this when I start painting up my Crimson Fists.
Thank you rob because I can use this for my night lords primaris.
Thats some Eavy Metal leval stuff there man even better really. Great job man
Great video dude, the most helpful I've seen

Magnifiers are super-handy. I have a pair of cheap reading glasses (2x magnification, got 'em for about £2), and they make details _so_ much easier...
Very nice work, you did it GW style. I'll keep that Titanium white in mind for the very highest highlights, it's smoooov!
great tip with the washes! Will definitely give that a try!

Excellent job, really fun to watch
Awesome video as always thanks Rob!
Fantastic video and great paint job

B-E-autiful! Thanks for this tutorial, really makes me want to try it 👍
Beautiful work. Great advice. Thanks
do you put the flow improver on your palette or in your paint container?

I suspect it's just as time consuming as if I was doing Edge Highlights normally but if it works for you then go for it.
This video is the perfect length .
How do you apply the matt varnish as a spray? I've only seen it in a bottle. Love the work btw, I'm planning on crimson fists for my dark imperium set
Really nice tutorial. Nice a clear m8
man this looks sick! Are you considering doing more chapters or do you mainly showcase personal projects?
How you pin the Models, heatedt metal wire in the resin, or Drill Pins, or is it a paper clip? :D
Can you please tell me what you used to pin all the parts? And is that a cork that you attached the pieces too? Thanks

@@RobPaintsModels aaahhhhhh, that's what I'm doing wrong with it.
Thank you very much.

Nice video. I am a big dry brush fan, don't know why, what do you think about that instead of line highlighting
It can work well if you're good at it I just prefer edge highlights as they involve less touch ups for me and I prefer the clean lines they make.
i dont find winsor and newton galerial matt varnish as spray. how to apply this?

Rob, great paint like usual. Your brushes are amazing, what’s the size you’re using for the highlights? Thx

RobPaintsModels thanks for the information.
Another great one, Rob! Also, what's the piece of music called?
Love this stuff.
Thanks for your videos!)
