Overland Silk Road: 2 years 70000 Km solo road trip in our van from Europe to Japan and back

- A road trip that proved much more challenging than we expected.
This short movie will give you a taste of what we have been through.
Our goal was to visit as many remote places as possible and spend time with locals as much as we could to learn about what they have been through in the past and the way they live nowadays. It’s been an incredibly enriching experience.
We ended up driving and living around the following nations:
Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia And Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Kurdistan, Abkhazia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Artsakh Republic (Nagorno-Karabakh), Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Siberia, Korea, Japan, Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Buryatia Republic, Mongolia, Altai Republic, Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Kalmykia, Chechen Republic, Dagestan, Nakhchivan Republic, Romania, Ukraine, Transnistria, Moldova, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, France.
Main challenges have been: Cancelled visas, some countries with date-specific visas forcing us to be at a border on a specific day and therefore having to kind of plan our whole trip backwards, rough off-road tracks in remote areas, harsh climate ranging from +47c in Iran to -27c in Siberia. Seasons were also an important factor, even though it is not possible to be in every spot at the best time of the year, seasons can definitively enlighten or ruin your trip!

I live in my campervan around Europe since April 2019, today are 949 that I'm travelling and almost 50.000 km through 18 countries, still watching this made me cry.
Thanks.
❤️❤️❤️
Wow amazing journey I’d love to know more.
It’s nice to see someone in a van travelling and not just another 4x4 👍👍👍

WOW ! Simply WOW ! I'm just in the initial stage of a similar project and when I see these images it really motivates me to bring it to reality, even though there will be tough moments for sure.
The content on your channel is great, I follow your work, all the best and as many reviews as possible
Amazing!
🙏 jjoli !! 💚💜💛💙❤️🌏🚴🏻 Amazing film - I cried with the emotion of seeing those places! Big love across the world to you both, and to special rabbit xx
Hi Rae, really glad you liked it! :-) , especially from someone who was there on the same broken roads!
Our traveler rabbit passed away 2 months ago :-( . After a crazy and hard life on the road for so long he died at home from a stupid accident… JJ has organized a proper funeral for him in Korea. We will spread his ashes in Central Asia next time we go. RIP
Thanks for sharing! I am from the U.S., but I am planning to have my RV shipped to Europe & do what you have done. I'm glad to know it is a possibility. I look forward to exploring more of your videos.
Amazing! Would love to see more!
We plan a similar trip soon in our van. Can you tell me how you managed the high sulphur diesel issue in Central Asia where I understand they still only sell high sulphur diesel.
Amazing video! Well done :) Which programme was used to edit the beginning with the Google earth routes?
Amazing trip ! Would be great if you can share details of your travels ex: total costs of the trips etc
You can check the channel from lets get otter here , they did a similar route and have all prices , taxes and fees listet in one of their Videos

Wow !
Wow guys this looks amazing, I've did a fair amount of travel myself. I quit my job a year ago and started a spices company. I'm so interested in this journey, did you make a full length version? I'm dying to see it!
Hey . It's been a year since you started your spices company. Hows it going? Are you profitable in the business ? Is the spice industry good to enter for new businessmen to step in ?
I haven't got reply even after 9 months . Hoping for a positive reply .
@@bendover-bz4bcwe hope so
Hi, thanks mate! Sorry I've been taken by several other projects and unfortunately haven't had time to to any video editing yet 😕
@ocybercisco I understand that my friend! I'm currently sat on so much footage 😆 happy editing bud.

👌
Very impressive video!! It makes me find the caravan !! I am big fan of you jjoli couple !!
Thanks a lot.
I’ve seen you are also traveling a lot! I hope we can meet up somewhere in the world 🙏
Hard work pays off! Well done!
Rahmat mate! I bet you are also working/studying hard in Korea!
Hi! Nice video. Was there any situation where you thought that a van with 4x4 was a better solution? Or the 4x2 was enought for those aventures offroad?
Thanks!
Interesting question,
Whenever people told us that it would be impossible to cross with a 6m 2WD van we tried and made it. I have to admit that sometimes it was a little suicidal, but there would be little interest crossing the world on highways right! :-p
I guess 4WD is an advantage and allows accessing more spots especially sandy/muddy ones, but not sure it would really help on a 6 meter long van with such a low ground clearance.
Mongolia is a place where it would definitively have helped to have 4WD.
the most epic adventure
Great video my inspiration 👍👍👍
Hello, name of the song of the credits please ?
가슴이 탁~ 트이는 시원함을 느끼게 하는 정말정말 멋진 영상이예요!!!
졸리님의 멋진 도전,늘 응원합니다
With me Gwak 댓글 정말 감사합니다.
may i know how much did the whole trip cost?
Hi, Congratulation, that's an amazing trip you had! Did you have any mechanical issues traveling in a van on rough terrain? I'm wondering if a van can handle it or if it's better to travel with a tougher offroad vehicle
Great trip even though you missed Poland :). Does it make sense to try this route in RWD 50 year old VW bus?
yes, absolutely. No complicated modern electronics and yes, you will likely breakdown and then meet interesting mechanics, their families and stay in towns that you would have driven straight through and discover the 'real' side of whatever country you are in. If your bus dies and you fly home, well, so be it
Nice
Wow. That's a huge pro.!👍👍👍
Magnifique! Quel trip ;)
Merci l'ami! J'espère qu'on se recroise bientôt! 🍷
Bellissimo video 👍 👍 👍
the beginning music was the intro to wolf totem by the Hu
How did you get from Korea to japan with the van because I can’t find out how on and online it says you can’t drive from North Korea to South Korea even
Hi, driving through North Korea is sometimes possible, but takes a lot of paper work and is very expensive. DBS ferry went bankrupt, Duwon took over. www.dwship.co.kr/en/main/
With them you can go from Vladivostok to Donghae and Maisuru in Japan. Another route is from Busan to Shimonoseki with Pukwan: www.pukwan.co.kr/?language=en
If you need help, I recommend contacting Mr Youn (Assured Sea&Air) at +82 10 2474 2658 (WhatsApp and Kakaotalk). He is a really cool guy and helped dozens of travellers shipping their vehicles to Korea and beyond.
What kind of camera did you use? :)
will u make a longer video ? all that travel and just 5mins of footage doesnt seem right ! do you have more footage ?
멋진 영상감사합니다

How much did you spend?
Magnifique L' AMOUR que tu y mets !
Tu possède une âme sensuelle dans les 5 sens: très beau choix musical et tu as bien su rendre "brillant" ce que tu as vécu... et aimé.
Cat ;-)
Wowza! Good job you guys! Do you have a state to state video?
Thanks! For this first movie, I have used only 85 clips out of 11283 shot during this 2 years trip, so there is definitively footage for few extra movies :-)
How exactly did you drive through North Korea?
"de ça..." SUPERBE !!!
ស្រីឆ្កួត! :-p
Great stuff and journey. The only pity is it's only five minutes long. It whets one's appetite for MUCH more. Thank you!
Any chance anyone could tell me what the song at the end is called?
Yea me2 I need it
SV Bohemen The song is: Б.Аззаяа - Миний Ээж Улаанбаатарт Байна
royalseduction thank you so much! :-)
My dream. ❤️
환상적인 영상미네요 시리즈로 나오길 기대합니다
A kde je teda celá cesta v jednom videu? Bůh ví, jak to bylo :D
Lovely to see a Fiat Ducato showing where I can take my Promaster. Pity your website isn't up.
How did you drive through Korea? Isn’t the northern border completely closed to foreign drivers?
Great video! What happened to the right back side of your van?
hit by a large truck in some mountains of Kyrgyzstan! i thought the trip was over, but wheels were still turning, so we just drove on and found a guy with a good hammer to do some cosmetics lol
Why not more videos? This is like a teaser
Hi how did you guys enter Turkey and Iran with the drone??? They don't allow drones there don't they?
Hi Lode. Entering Turkey and Iran with a drone was no problem at all. The real issues start when you shoot in places like Turkmenistan, Kurdistan or Chechnya. In Turkey I even lost a drone and went to the local police to get a report for my insurance company. Then I drove to Ankara to buy a new one. When we entered Iran at Nordooz border, the officer offered me tea and smoke then after he stamped my CPD he just opened the side door of our van and said 'Bon Voyage' lol :-)
Btw, I have checked your website, very nice photography!
@@ocybercisco Thanxx for answering and the compliment :-) was just wondering because websites are telling me droning in these countries are prohibid
Wait so you went through north Korea?
Was finding a diesel fuel a huge problem for You?
Was wondering the same thing. How the hell would you get fuel out there
0:13 Ezan nede güzel okunuyor Maşallah
Adam kürdistan demiş sen ezan diyorsun
역시 졸리부부 의 영상은 최곱니다~~~^^
정의순 칭찬 감사합니다 🙏🏻
Please help me out, in your trip from EU to Japan for example do you really need a 4x4 or normal van would do ...thank you
that is a fiat ducato 6m WITHOUT 4x4 and 4m wheels base, you can follow 2 guys ( search on youtube " Let's get otter here" ) they did the same with the shorter version of that van, they have english subtitles.
You’ve been travelling through North Korea with van???
drones are nice
Oh wow what an amazing journey 😍 we are planning to make a similar journey. May I ask you couple practical questions?
Hi, thanks for your kind comment. I can only recommend such a trip 😊. If you have any question, don't hesitate!
Thank you 🙏🏻 we will definitely be learning from your route and still watching if Azerbaijan will open its land borders anytime soon. But our question was more about insurance( that would cover your vehicle and it’s transport back to home in case of total breakdown) did you have one? We can’t seem to find any company that offers it in those countries.
Thanks ahead for reply,
Best wishes
Amazing trip...anyway, how to enter North Korea from China..and also crossing the border to South Korea?
this 4x4 ?
2WD and low clearance, but did a great job even off-road !
After we die, what happens?
Be Ready: AfterDeathTruth.net
you should make it more longer
와~!한국인이세요? 자전거 대회 등 보다가 어떻게 중동국경을 다 넘어서 일본까지 올수가 있지 하고 찾았는데

lol at the 15 downvotes on this video. Sad guys.
wow wow wowwwwwwwwwwwww amazing, next come to israel.
Thanks a lot mate! We did overland Levant region in 2016. Had a very nice dinner at Pastory in Eilat ;-)
Hey man you missed to list another country of the Silk Road, that is China and you did passed into on your way back.
Quick note, there is no Kurdistan in Turkey.
Where's the full trip report? This is illegal, you can't just upload a teaser like this and then not follow up on it.
Nice video but you should try and get out and about more.......
why didn't come to china bro
not the most direct route
By the way wheres kurdistan? You must be wrote wrong
