Back in 1977 I took a year to just work and save money before college. This is exactly what I used to do. Hardest and most satisfying work I've ever done. Only problem was the owner was a total tyrant. He was verbally abusive, always angry and stressed. I saw him grab some guys by the neck a few times. He only seemed to do that to the Mexican workers, the illegals. These were the very guys I strived to keep up with pushing cement filled wheelbarrows through forms and grading. They taught me the art of the shovel and pick. And yes, it's a science and an art. They were the hardest working guys I've ever met. This was back then wheelbarrows only had one wheel, today they have two which helps a lot from tipping. I was doing some light grading in my back yard yesterday prepping to build a fence and I was using those same skills taught to me back then. You are the kind guy that would make it a pleasure to come to work for everyday. If I were working for you back then I might have never wanted to leave for college.
Sounds familiar.
TY
I think you and I worked for the same guy…. Hahaha
@@19993gt I guess you could call it a right of passage because I was never the same afterward. Lol.
The Mexican is the hardest working individual I’ve ever witnessed, freezing cold early am or blazing hot 100 plus degrees helping eachother joking around smiling happy no complaining.
"they'll never crack cause they've got that freedom of movement" there is Truth to this statement far beyond just concrete.
Yes I believe there is
As always, you and your team make it look so easy...
TY
and professional
I’ve said it before, but you guys make it look so easy. True testament to your skills.
Thanks 👍

That was a beautiful patio and stepping stones for that yard. Y’all always do perfect work! ❤❤❤
Really nice work 👍 That’s what a concrete professional finish looks like 👌
I absolutely love watching your videos. Learned so much throughout the years. It's my wind down time after getting home from work. Really wish I could work for you. Without pay of course. The knowledge and experience is worth more. Unfortunately I'm on the East Coast in Boston. Someday hopefully. Keep up the great work and videos. 👍
Sure will TY
Another perfect job. 👍🏽
Love watching your videos. You explain what you and your team are doing so well. Not that I understand a whole lot. And the finished product always looks great.
TY

Great job Dave
Good job love your videos!
Also, I like how the smooth concrete looked before you broom finish it.
That crew took so much care about the finished product. Impressive. It’s the details and extra effort that shows in the end.
I concur

I have always learnt from your channel. Brilliant lessons, great quality!

Love watching your video's bro. Excellent Job. Keep up the good work. :)
Thanks a ton!
Nice work.
Having this done locally (Oklahoma). Have a couple questions:
- In this video, you did 3x3. I'm doing a 4x4 step, what kind of base would you recommend? I saw you use both gravel and sand here.
- For a 4x4 step, would you use any reinforcement?
- I've heard of people running rod from one step to the other if you want to keep them aligned when they move. Would you recommend this?
Damn, some of you guys’ best work yet in my opinion.

Inspiring as usual. 👍
Team work always make the dream work...
Bingo
Very cool design! I was hoping these were gonna get stamped.
With the cost of lumber going up the way it is, you almost have to double the cost of your project!🤯
Great job, as usual!
True
This is my next project and I also have to build a small retaining wall. Wish me luck man and thanks for all the information.

Wish a pro like you with honesty and quality work can be found on Long Island NY..... bunch of questionable characters out here!
Thats a bummer
TY
Nice!

Wow
Great video, just getting into concrete and your videos are a great way for me to learn. Not for business but I want to do my backyard 10*12 pad. Just wondering what the final pass on the knee boards do? Will the Fresno and the wooden boat float be enough??
It will work, but you want it smoother
Asen un trabajo excellent 👌 👏 👍 good video. Question when u make 10x12x6 u need put joints in the middle
My hope and anticipation got the best of me and at 8:43 for a split second thought it was Big Blue layin it down sweetly.
A nice tool for sure
Looks really cool. The customer should of had you put in post supports. Would be a great spot for a pergola.
Drill expansion bolts
That backyard has a lot of bark but not a lot bite. (I waited for you to drop that joke the whole video but no dice.) 😄
Smooooth

Hey David another great video I know you put out a video of how to make concrete from scratch and I’m having trouble finding out is there anyway you could link that
Hey David. What does fly ash do for the concrete?
Beautiful! Question. I've seen another video of yours where you used 2" deep wooden forms for smaller pavers you made with blue glass. When do you recommend going from 1"x2" lumber forms to 2"x4" lumber forms? At what size paver should you go from 2" thick to 4" thick?
Thicker concrete when you get over a 18" square
Nice
Good job. Mirror.
Yes
TY
AWESOME craftsmanship bro 😎 what type of concrete is that ? Self leveling ?
I wish
👌👌👌👏👏👏
Do you prefer fiberglass over traditional rebar? any easier to work with? Do they say the strength is the same? Cool technology, just wondering if it is as strong as steal.
Depends on the type of fiberglass. Every fiberglass rods can be designed differently.
Also the spacing can change everything.
I prefer working with the fiberglass.
Lighter easier to transport.
Once you use fiberglass you'll never want steel again.
Nice work!
Please do a video talking about coloring concrete.
Both pre mixing color into the entire mix and compare with color thats just applied to the top surface. Costs, pros and cons.
Whats the best way for a DIYer to color a small concrete patio?
Thanks in Advance
Sounds like a good video
That bark would be the biggest litterbox in my neighborhood
If you mix it with coconut bark cats don't like it
Badass
TY
good........
TY
So beautiful work! Why don't you use the rebar on those concrete steps?
To small, no need
David why is the trowel called Fresno? Was it invented in Fresno California? Fresno in Spanish means Ash tree in English. Another interesting post, thanks for sharing!
My guess is yes in Frenso
No fiberglass for the step stones? How big does the slab need to be for you to need to use rebar?
This was two days ago. Wow.
Yes
@@OdellCompleteConcrete yup
To use a word from my youth COOL
It looks really nice as always. I think they should have done the entire yard and just left maybe a border area for plants.
Pouring concrete is like your first marriage. You only get one try, and one chance to get it right.
I try or tear it out
2 questions, 1 is there a specific reason to spray forms with oil day of or does it not matter? #2 What was the deal with the auger drill bits in the bottom of the stepping stone form, customer haveing a bit (lol) of fun? :)
Drilling out wood post from a concrete slab.
The oil seem to work best on same day. If you spray in advance the nails could back out.
👍👍😎
TY
Excessive mulch please grow grass or use rocks
Do you need to put dolbys underneath the fiberglass rods, orcan you leave them at the base level because they don’t rust ?
Nvm I see your raising it as you pour. Lol I commented as I was watching
Do the concrete steppers have a tendency to move in climates that freeze and create step hazards?
No if set in the right material
Great job,How much the cost thesame proyect in 2022?
2800
