My Dad recently got This stuff installed in his front and backyard. He lives in Southern California. While it looks great it's just horrible in the summer. It radiates a ton of heat and you can't walk on it at all without shoes or it'll burn your feet. Even the dogs Wouldn't walk on it during the day. It's fine on normal temperature days.
ive been watching ur videos for a little while now in preperation to do my own slabs around my house. every tradesman ive paid to do a job on my house ended up fking things up and costing me more money so i decided enough was enough and im going to do things myself. i felt pretty confident after binge watching your videos and the job came out amazing! thanks for all of the tips and advice, you guys helped me save money and i also lost my beer belly in the process. not sure i could manage a big slab like that one tho lol
Such fine and professional work you do, including all these considerations about slope and drainage. It's a shame the client has a bad attitude and petty complaints. Impressive how you still keep moving on. They better pay you good and promptly.
Last video from Arizona, I went on your company website and read through about the family because I felt confused. Im good now if I can stop referring to Tim as David. He looks so much like you and its very obvious that he learned his confidence and gentle teaching manner from you. Thanks for the video
Great job. What a difference to the yard - looks soo much better. Personal preference would be to have a sand wash finish on the concrete - the broom finish looks and feels too commercial for a private residence.
Absolutely amazing. I wish fake grass would look that good here. But down in the Phoenix area, that stuff gets sooooooooo hot, cheaper stuff actually melts, it can burn your animals paws, and just the look IMO looks like strings if plastic. My wife wants to do artificial turf, bit the maintenance is so bad and if you have pets, 3 dogs here, it burns them because the temps get over 150 in summer and the animal waste gets nasty and smells so bad when urine gets into the turff. But if we were retired with no animals, I'd do that. Lol. Looks amazing Dave! Love the AZ vids (AZ native here). If you ever come down to the valley for work, I'd love to have you do some concrete work!! Far north Peoria for me, roughly 303 & Lake Pleasent Pkwy.
Any reason the bull float was used for the 3x6 looking step but not the 3x3? I’m looking into doing some DIY 6x3 walk ways, wondering if I can just use a hand float right after screeding since they don’t need to be absolutely perfect?
Really nice work. What brand of concrete bag mix do you recommend? Blue Hawk is no longer available and I would like to buy some that will leave a really nice finish. Thank you
25:00 Brutal story 😱🔨🗡🖐💉 If you put a piece of composite or metal in middle of rubber you could safely use glove to do that. I see you didnt end up having to do that curb with the block wall foundation. Great job team 👍
17:49 For stepping stones, have you ever considered or used aerated concrete? Making aerocrete at your shop and carrying to the job? I’ve thought of making sidewalks out of it for use here in Texas. The gumbo shifts after a few years even if you stabilize the base causing maintenance issues. Using aerocrete would make it so that we could pick up the pads, re-level the base and replace the pads in place without having to demolish a sidewalk and re-pour.
No offense.....but many concrete contractors tape plastic up on the house to avoid getting concrete splatter on the siding and/or on the sliding glass doors......but I will say, I have watched many of the Odell concrete videos and your company does do very high quality work on every job.

I can see that happening, it's definitely not perfect.
I miss the Odell real sod installs
Wouldn’t all concrete be like that in the heat?
That’s important information to have!
so a front yard only thing it is!
Excellent point on residential trenching - they’re hardly ever backfilled correctly. This turned out really great!
I concur

Really sorry to hear that you lost your beer belly. I hope you don't have to look too long and you find it again.

TNT, don't forget about Tyler!
@JEK I think I saw Tyler recently. Thought is was Tim then thought no. So must be the brother haha
All of your videos are probably the best on YT. Question: what brand and model of artificial turf to you use and/or recommend? Thanks.
TY
It varies, depending on the needs
Elegant look. Adding lighting into the concrete would have been a nice finish.
Really clean job.
Thanks 👍
I used to watch these to learn things, now it’s part of the ASMR ritual before bed. Definitely decent content on many levels

I wish you were near. Your work is excellent.
Me too

sand wash is coming in about 20 years naturally.
@@OdellCompleteConcrete damn, I might be dead by then 🪦

Yes, it wouldn't fit on the 2 x 3

sand, rock and cement is best

The elevations worked for no curb
Another Nice one David, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
25:32 Mountain Bike gloves come with padding on the palms. The fun part is finding just right pair.

You could re-level these if you had to, using some pry bars

Im back
@@OdellCompleteConcrete welcome back, we've missed your content.
Awesome commentary by the OG himself, David Odell. Clean install.
It's too bad you guys aren't doing more real sod installs. Friggin CA.
Water rations.

Awesome palm nailers are fun
Yes they are
😄😄 On the 40 days and 40 nights. I can see the 40 days 40 night but you guys engineered it for 38/38 so you'll be good. Beautiful job by the way
I hope so

What’s the slop on the 2 drain lines/pipes? And what do you use as a reference to know you got the slop right
Thanks
The pipe underground is a about a 1/8 per foot. The drain grates are about 1" below top of concrete.
We used a 4' level as we went.
6:29 😂 “you can only underdig by hand for some reason”!! Hear, hear!! And that reason is sweat, hard work, callouses, and aches!
I'm guessing you've been there.
What kind of pipe was used for the underdrain and how did you connect it together?
3" drain with couplings
Nice work.
Thank you! Cheers!

Only put Non-Ethanol gas in your compactor and you can avoid the carburetor rebuilds.
I believe it.
Now what I do is turn the fuel off and let the machine starve out.
And where can I get it , thanks !
