    More water is definitely not better. Extra water weakens the mix. The finished product is also stronger the slower it cures, which is a chemical process not to be confused with drying. There are curing compounds for big jobs, or a damp cloth can work well on small jobs like this.
    Also, two tweaks will make the finished product much nicer:
    1. A roundover tool for the edges,
    2. A broomed or brush finish for the surface.

      The mesh should be all the way to the bottom, wire will work great under pulling forces (bottom), no so good un pushing forces (up), this is commonly seen on concrete slabs, rods are always on the botoom.

    I have been doing concrete work for years here in the eastern mid-Atlantic states and the one step most people can skip is the rebar part. On such a small piece it won't help and may actually make the concrete crack faster than if you leave it out. I have a sidewalk I laid 22 years ago between my house and workshop. Its 6" wide and 72 feet long. 3.5 inches deep and not one piece of rebar in the entire piece. It was done in a rush because it was an unplanned project. The concrete was offered to me for almost nothing if I just had a place he could dump it out of his truck.

    • @johnlee7085
      @johnlee7085 Год назад

      Concrete is 150 lbs/cubic foot. When you calculate the volume of concrete in cf, multiple by 150, then divide by the weight of the bags, usually either 60 or 80. That will give you the number of bags. Add 10% for safety. Better to have to much, than needing to make a last second scramble to the store.

The less water the better during mixing, when the concrete starts to cure, only THEN the more water the better. In lab conditions, concrete reached maximun strength if cured submerged in water, of course that is not feasibel in most applications.

      most pavers that are made are cheaply and poorly made. For example 16 in squares are typically 1.5in thick. i definitely prefer 2.0 in. thick and like to put 9 ga mesh in them. i had an expert tell me that id you make your own with pre mixed dry that you will typically end up with inferior product because you get shorted cement in the premix. so you may want to sub some of the mix with cement. i do 39 lbs. square and you can measure it out by volume and weight to start and get it right by volume from there after. I pour in 2 runs: first with standard concrete mix enriched with cement and then do the top .5 in with pigment tinted with 11 lbs for final toping useing sand topping mix.

    Why not just buy those pre-made concrete tiles, save time and effort

      At that size, it's probably much cheaper to make them

      They tried that 50 years ago. Massive fail. We’re just not smart enough.

    So it looks like your pavers end up being spaced roughly 3 1\2" from each other. That seems excessive but you probably had your reasons. Just don't come home drunk in the dark I guess.

    Those pavers are thick! 3.5 inches... maybe 2 inches is better.

    "You gonna measure it in inches!"
    And what if I want to measure it in Centimeters, huh? Than what? Am I not allowed to do that! Am I really discriminated based on my ethnical background? Help! Someone! They are oppressing me, a poor little Snowflake !

    Why would you even want to do all this work when you can buy 1 foot square concrete pavers for $1.50 😅🤣

      because if you want it to last 2 years go and buy them. if you want them to last, make them thicker, add cement, and use remesh.
