Almost like animation is the best medium to use to make expressive, colourful fantasy experiences for a movie-going audience. Seriously though, I'm getting sick of the overuse of computer effects in order to make something magical look 'real', especially for supposedly 'living' things.
I unironically want to see a Bollywood movie set in Oregon with Nepalese animals. I don't think it would be good, but it would at least be entertaining.
Imagine having a world-class animation studio but rather than create something original with it you hire 3D actors for a substandard live-action flick. This is why Don Bluth should have overturned Disney.
Well they admitted in "The making of The Lion King(2019)" that it was alllll done just for nostalgia points. Dude constantly says stuff like "You hear the music and like you are back to your childhood" and sh it. They know old fans of the original will watch it because "nostalgia" and praise it because it has "nostalgic" songs and "nostalgic" characters. They couldn't care less about making something new and original anymore.
Except Disney is a massive corporation that just does both, as well as making nature documentaries and cooking shows and sitcoms for teens and sitcoms for adults and live sports and and they were doing all that BEFORE they bought Star Wars, Marvel, and Fox. It is helpful to look at reality. And in reality they have a world-class animation studio and is using it to put out fare like Frozen 2 and Encanto (highly successful and popular among the target audience), and also live action CGI monstrosities that still rake in some cash (for now) - but what you've got to understand is that it doesn't matter if Uncanny Valley Lion King is bad or even if it loses a bit of money. Disney has been convinced for a couple decades now that that is a small price to pay in return for keeping the idea of "Lion King" in your mind. The point of Disney is not to make movies, hasn't been for decades. The point of Disney is to make/own IP that you care about to the point that you will go to the part of the business where they actually make the profits that matter - the theme parks.

The point is to get people to remember how much they love The Lion King in the same way the point of new Star Wars isn't to be good or even to be new Star Wars, but first and foremost to remind you that Star Wars exists and you like Star Wars, even if you don't like *this* Star Wars. The biggest problem with remaking a cartoon is you're much more limited in terms of character design, movement, facial expressions, colours, shapes, clothes, tasks they can accomplish and pysics. These remakes are only popular because of two things: nostalgia and because Disney is telling you to be excited. I bet my kidney that at least half of these would flop if there weren't built on already established names.

Honestly, Anna Kendrick can't sing musical theatre, but her pop voice would have been better than Watson's autotune. I would pay good money to see Kendrick Lamar as Belle. That is the disney remake we all deserve.

You should check out Sideways' video on this. She definately did not come with the prepackaged skills, but they did really let Emma Watson down in the way they produced the film.
Emma Watson can actually sing though. She’s no professional. She doesn’t have a super beautiful or strong voice. But Disney decided to auto tune the heck out of her for some reason and make her sound worse than she really is.

A lot of Chinese ppl hated the movie because it did a terrible job representing ancient Chinese culture, and it tries to poorly duplicate unrealistic but still artistic Chinese/HK-style action. My biggest theory. They made these awful remakes, to keep copyright, to make merchandise off the same old Disney movies, and most of all to make parents watch these awful remakes and go, hey children, there are better movies than these, so lets rewatch my old favorite Disney movies now.
All of the things they make are under public domain. Yes, that includes Frozen which is just Snow Queen retold. The only original thing I THINK they come up with was Maleficent. Also they already said that they make those movies to cash out on nostalgia older fans of the original Disney adaptation have, especially The Lion King remake.

In Burton's defense, he was hired on late in Alice in Wonderland's development. Disney wanted another Narnia and the story was penned by Linda Woolverton. Burton wanted a psychological coming-of-age story with certain elements of American McGee's Alice, but Disney struck that down. Also, I've heard that this was literally made so Burton could get the funding to make Frankenweenie. Basically, the movie was already made and they slapped Burton on at the last minute to make everything look interesting.
That was long before George of the Jungle got acquired by DreamWorks. Both the classic American and modern Canadian versions are in the DreamWorks Classics roster, unlike the live action films.

Reminds me of other typical bad live-action remakes like Bayformers for the anti-wokes by making women bitchy SJW sex-objects (Mikaela Banes and Carly Spencer) and men even worse by being nothing but murderers who beat up, gaslight, give fake apologies to and stand them up (re: Sam Witwicky be Optimus Prime, no wonder the BF versions’ girlfriends left them for good).

Honestly, Anna Kendrick can't sing musical theatre, but her pop voice would have been better than Watson's autotune. I would pay good money to see Kendrick Lamar as Belle. That is the disney remake we all deserve.

You should check out Sideways' video on this. She definately did not come with the prepackaged skills, but they did really let Emma Watson down in the way they produced the film.
Emma Watson can actually sing though. She’s no professional. She doesn’t have a super beautiful or strong voice. But Disney decided to auto tune the heck out of her for some reason and make her sound worse than she really is.

A lot of Chinese ppl hated the movie because it did a terrible job representing ancient Chinese culture, and it tries to poorly duplicate unrealistic but still artistic Chinese/HK-style action. Like compare the movie with Hero, the 2002 movie. Also, I think the film’s choppy editing is universally hated.

I can not think of anything more pointless and yes, creatively bankrupt then turning beloved and beautifully animated Disney classic films into a dull live-action remakes. Lady and the Tramp, endearing and fun originally but looked outright sinister and disturbing as a live-action movie. Disney ruins itself with this crap!
I'd argue the Jungke Book 2016 is the rare case of the remake being better than the animated original and Pete's Dragon isnt that bad.

Otherwise he’s a sloth bear in most adaptations.

All of the things they make are under public domain. Yes, that includes Frozen which is just Snow Queen retold. The only original thing I THINK they come up with was Maleficent.

In Burton's defense, he was hired on late in Alice in Wonderland's development. Disney wanted another Narnia and the story was penned by Linda Woolverton. Burton wanted a psychological coming-of-age story with certain elements of American McGee's Alice, but Disney struck that down. Also, I've heard that this was literally made so Burton could get the funding to make Frankenweenie. Basically, the movie was already made and they slapped Burton on at the last minute to make everything look interesting.

That was long before George of the Jungle got acquired by DreamWorks. Both the classic American and modern Canadian versions are in the DreamWorks Classics roster, unlike the live action films.

I agree a remake of the Emperor's New Groove would be awful.
They'd just change it to the original Kingdom of the Sun concept that the movie was.

As much as I love The Emperor's New Groove, I really would love to see the Kingdom of the Sun concept to be released these days, even if it's traditionally animated.

Funny thing is, Sword in the Stone could easily be a great live action film and even a jumping off point for a king Arthur trilogy, possibly a "universe" though thats kinda ambitious. Though the track record for King Arthur films could mean they dodged a bullet.
That would require said movie to be something more than a remake, though. Which we all know Disney is incapable of doing.
