I don't wanna seem pretentious, but I never liked this joke. They could've found a way of making Joey suck at learning French without making him literally fail to grasp how to repeat sounds back at someone. That's beyond just being "really stupid", that requires active trolling, but Joey clearly isn't doing that, so it doesn't really make any sense whatsoever. This whole bit just could've been so much funnier if they made Joey's bad French more subtle.
As a language teacher, that is not stupid at all, exagerated at some point but not stupid. French and English are veeeery different phonologically, I had students sounding "stupid" just like him
It was funny the first time he said it wrong. After he should have said everything right, and the joke should have been that the script was wrong and Pheobe was too cooky to say Joey was reading lines meat for a child character
@@Rabiyatoulahi I think it was done to the 11th level here. Like for him to mistake Claude with blue that's way too much in my opinion and it did make Joey seem too stupid. God bless you.
@@devilpupbear09 In the sequel, it's revealed that at least one of his sisters can't speak it either, so it's probable that his entire family can only speak English.
This is one issue I had with FRIENDS . Overall the show was amazing but this episode is where the writers , or even Matt himself went waaaaay overboard . To the point , he is just mentally challenged in this scene . We get that Joey is always a little slow to react but in this episode he just went nuts . He shouldn't be able to even speak English if this was the case . The radio scene is even worse , like he couldn't even tell between reality and a recorded tape ? Really ? Yet he was able to tell his stalker fan ( played by Brooke Shields ) was crazy because she mixed up TV shows and reality . Even comedy should have somewhat retain a weebit of logics . None of this make any kind of sense .

@chickensandwichman5443 I agree, it's never made any sense to me either!

I agree it was overdone.
God bless everyone.

I was teaching my American friend some french, at some point, I just showed her the Joey french clip, she said sorry to me😂😂😂😂
The best of this episode is when Chandler Asks Phoebe where s Mike 😂😂😂
My opinion…I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF! 😂
Wouldn't it make sense if Joey wrote down Italian? The language of his forefathers
He doesn't speak that either.
@@Eweiithe must be the Black Sheep of the family then

Um actually.. Ross did went to Egypt, it was with his father on spring break...
Look dad its the sphinx... Whohoho
Joey: mi pu pu 😂😂😂😂
I honestly found this episode so annoying like I get that joey is supposed to be stupid but come on this is next level and it doesn’t make sense.
Ye it was a dumb plot
To all game of thrones fans 0:25 look behind phoebe, does that carpet on the wall look familiar?
Red background with golden lion?
thats coat of arms of house Plantagenet
and who are you the proud lord said, that I must bow so low?
Seriously stop, Or I will jump over you🤣😁
Phoebe looked so beautiful....
Wonder how many takes Matt and Lisa had to do without cracking! 😂😂
For beginners, understandable. The french learning curve would be like climbing Mt. Everest!😮
This is a 7 year old joke.
Season 10 has really suffered a drop in quality
I understand Joey was stupid but really showrunners? So stupid he doesn’t know the difference between a real person and a recording?
Well, at least he learnt to NEVE lie on his resume again! You'd THINK he would have learnt it after the dancing debacle in Season 3!
Never understood why people are crazy about French. No disrespect to anyone.
I guess people like the way it sounds
Rachel spoke on behalf of everybody here: French sounds sexy. I agree
